By encapsulating nanoscale particles of goethite(α-FeO(OH)),hydrous ceric oxide(CeO_(2)·H_(2)O,HCO)and silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)in the pores of polystyrene anion exchanger D201,a novel nanocomposite FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 was prepared for the effective removal of arsenic from *** isotherm study shows that FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 has excellent adsorption performance for As(III)and As(V),with an increased adsorption capacity of As(III)to 40.12 mg/g compared to that of 22.03 mg/g by the composite adsorbent without AgNPs(FeO(OH)-HCO-D201).The adsorption kinetics data showed that the sorption rate of FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 for As(III)is less than that for As(V),and the adsorption of As(III)and As(V)were consistent with the pseudo-second-order model and the pseudofirst-order model,*** or basic conditions are favored for the adsorption of As(III/V)by FeO(OH)-*** with nitrate/chloride/bicarbonate,sulfate/silicate/phosphate showed more remarkable inhibition of arsenic removal by FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201,whereas natural organic matter showed no interference to the arsenic *** As(V)adsorption involved different interactions such as electrostatic attraction and surface complexation,while the adsorption of As(III)involved the part oxidization of As(III)to As(V)and the simultaneous adsorption of As(III)and As(V).In addition to the Ce(IV)in CeO_(2)·H_(2)O acted as an oxidant,the synergistic effect ofα-FeO(OH)and AgNPs also contributed to the oxidization of As(III)to As(V).moreover,the reusable property suggested that this FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 nanocomposite has great potential for arsenic-contaminated water purification.

All-season thermal management with zero energy consumption and emissions is more crucial to global decarbonization over traditional energy-intensive cooling/heating ***,the static single thermal management for cooling or heating fails to self-regulate the temperature in dynamic seasonal temperature ***,inspired by the dual-temperature regulation function of the fur color changes on the backs and abdomens of penguins,a smart thermal management composite hydrogel(PNA@H-PM Gel) system was subtly created though an "on-demand" dual-layer structure design *** PNA@H-PM Gel system features synchronous solar and thermal radiation modulation as well as tunable phase transition temperatures to meet the variable seasonal thermal requirements and energy-saving demands via self-adaptive radiative cooling and solar heating ***,this system demonstrates superb modulations of both the solar reflectance(ΔR=0.74) and thermal emissivity(ΔE=0.52) in response to ambient temperature changes,highlighting efficient temperature regulation with average radiative cooling and solar heating effects of 9.6℃ in summer and 6.1℃ in winter,***,compared to standard building baselines,the PNA@H-PM Gel presents a more substantial energy-saving cooling/heating potentials for energy-efficient buildings across various regions and *** novel solution,inspired by penguins in the real world,will offer a fresh approach for producing intelligent,energy-saving thermal management materials,and serve for temperature regulation under dynamic climate conditions and even throughout all seasons.

Timely monitoring of anesthesia status during surgery is important to prevent an overdose of isoflurane anesthesia. Therefore, in-depth studies of the neural mechanisms of anesthetics are warranted. Hippocampal CA1 plays an important role during anesthesia. Currently, a high spatiotemporal resolution microdevice technology for the accurate detection of deep brain nuclei is lacking. In this research, four-shank 32-channel implantable microelectrode arrays (MEAs) were developed for the real-time recording of single-cell level neural information in rat hippocampal CA1. Platinum nanoparticles were modified onto the microelectrodes to substantially enhance the electrical properties of the microelectrode arrays. The modified MEAs exhibited low impedance (11.5 ± 1 kΩ) and small phase delay (-18.5° ± 2.54°), which enabled the MEAs to record single-cell level neural information with a high signal-to-noise ratio. The MEAs were implanted into the CA1 nuclei of the anesthetized rats, and the electrophysiological signals were recorded under different degrees of anesthesia mediated by low-dose concentrations of isoflurane. The recorded signals were analyzed in depth. Isoflurane caused an inhibition of spike firing rate in hippocampal CA1 neurons, while inducing low-frequency oscillations in CA1, thus enhancing the low-frequency power of local field potentials. In this manner, the spike firing rate and the power of local field potentials in CA1 could characterize the degree of isoflurane anesthesia. The present study provides a technical tool to study the neural mechanisms of isoflurane anesthesia and a research method for monitoring the depth of isoflurane anesthesia in clinical practice. © 2023
