Seasonal Predictions of Summer Precipitation in the Middle-lower Reaches of the yangtze River with Global and Regional Models Based on NUIST-CFS1.0

Accurate prediction of the summer precipitation over the middle and lower reaches of the yangtze River(MLYR)is of urgent demand for the local economic and societal development.This study assesses the seasonal forecast skill in predicting summer precipitation over the MLYR region based on the global Climate Forecast System of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology(NUIST-CFS1.0,previously SINTEX-F).The results show that the model can provide moderate skill in predicting the interannual variations of the MLYR rainbands,initialized from 1 March.In addition,the nine-member ensemble mean can realistically reproduce the links between the MLYR precipitation and tropical sea surface temperature(SST)anomalies,but the individual members show great discrepancies,indicating large uncertainty in the forecasts.Furthermore,the NUIST-CFS1.0 can predict five of the seven extreme summer precipitation anomalies over the MLYR during 1982-2020,albeit with underestimated magnitudes.The Weather Forecast and Research(WRF)downscaling hindcast experiments with a finer resolution of 30 km,which are forced by the large-scale information of the NUIST-CFS1.0 predictions with a spectral nudging method,display improved predictions of the extreme summer precipitation anomalies to some extent.However,the performance of the downscaling predictions is highly dependent on the global model forecast skill,suggesting that further improvements on both the global and regional climate models are needed.

A Review on Engineering Design for Enhancing Interfacial Contact in Solid-State Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

The utilization of solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)presents a promising solution to the issues of safety concern and shuttle effect in Li–S batteries,which has garnered significant interest recently.However,the high interfacial impedances existing between the SSEs and the electrodes(both lithium anodes and sulfur cathodes)hinder the charge transfer and intensify the uneven deposition of lithium,which ultimately result in insufficient capacity utilization and poor cycling stability.Hence,the reduction of interfacial resistance between SSEs and electrodes is of paramount importance in the pursuit of efficacious solid-state batteries.In this review,we focus on the experimental strategies employed to enhance the interfacial contact between SSEs and electrodes,and summarize recent progresses of their applications in solidstate Li–S batteries.Moreover,the challenges and perspectives of rational interfacial design in practical solid-state Li–S batteries are outlined as well.We expect that this review will provide new insights into the further technique development and practical applications of solid-state lithium batteries.

Predictive value of the Wells score combined with D-dimer level in identifying acute pulmonary embolism in patients with coronary heart disease with chest pain

Acute pulmonary embolism(APE)is a challenging condition with frequently missed or delayed diagnosis,and thus may be fatal.In emergency patients with a history of coronary heart disease,the electrocardiogram(ECG)results are often not specific,and APE is difficult to diagnose.Consequently,the patients tend to be diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome(ACS),and either undergo reexamination with myocardial enzyme observations in the emergency department,or are admitted to the hospital for coronary angiography.The 2008 European Society of Cardiology(ESC)guidelines on the diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism stated that the clinical risk assessment of APE should be based on the Wells score.[1]However,despite this official recommendation,the Wells score is not widely used in emergency medicine,especially for patients with coronary heart disease and concomitant APE.The present study analyzed the predictive value of the Wells score combined with the D-dimer level in identifying APE in patients with coronary heart disease.

Trajectories of oxygen saturation within 6–72 hours after birth in neonates at moderate altitude:a prospective longitudinal cohort study

Trajectories of pulse oxygen saturation(SpO_(2))within the first few days after birth are important to inform the strategy for identifying asymptomatic hypoxemic disease but remain poorly substantiated at higher altitudes.Methods We performed a longitudinal cohort study with consecutive neonates at a local hospital in Luchun County,China,at an altitude of 1650 m between January and July 2020.We repeatedly measured the pre-and post-ductal SpO_(2)values at 6,12,18,24,36,48,and 72 hours after birth for neonates without oxygen supplements.All neonates underwent echocardiography and were followed up to 42 days after discharge.We included neonates without hypoxemic diseases to characterize the trajectories of SpO_(2)over time using a linear mixed model.We considered the 2.5th percentile as the reference value to define hypoxemic conditions.Results A total of 1061 neonates were enrolled.Twenty-five had non-cardiac hypoxemic diseases,with 84%(21/25)presenting with abnormal SpO_(2)within 24 hours.One had tetralogy of Fallot identified by echocardiography.Among the 1035 asymptomatic neonates,SpO_(2)values declined from 6 hours after birth,reached a nadir at 48 hours,and tended to level off thereafter,with identical patterns for both pre-and post-ductal SpO_(2).The reference percentile was 92%for both pre-and post-ductal SpO_(2)and was time independent.Conclusions A decline within 48 hours features SpO_(2)trajectories within the first 72 hours at moderate altitude.Our findings suggest that earlier screening may favorably achieve a benefit–risk balance in identifying asymptomatic hypoxemic diseases in this population.

Knockdown of polypyrimidine tract binding protein facilitates motor function recovery after spinal cord injury

After spinal cord injury(SCI),a fibroblast-and microglia-mediated fibrotic scar is formed in the lesion core,and a glial scar is formed around the fibrotic scar as a res ult of the activation and proliferation of astrocytes.Simultaneously,a large number of neuro ns are lost in the injured area.Regulating the dense glial scar and re plenishing neurons in the injured area are essential for SCI repair.Polypyrimidine tra ct binding protein(PTB),known as an RNA-binding protein,plays a key role in neurogenesis.Here,we utilized short hairpin RNAs(shRNAs)and antisense oligonucleotides(ASOs)to knock down PTB expression.We found that reactive spinal astrocytes from mice were directly reprogrammed into motoneuron-like cells by PTB downregulation in vitro.In a mouse model of compressioninduced SCI,adeno-associated viral shRNA-mediated PTB knockdown replenished motoneuron-like cells around the injured area.Basso Mouse Scale scores and forced swim,inclined plate,cold allodynia,and hot plate tests showed that PTB knockdown promoted motor function recovery in mice but did not improve sensory perception after SCI.Furthermore,ASO-mediated PTB knockdown improved motor function resto ration by not only replenishing motoneuron-like cells around the injured area but also by modestly reducing the density of the glial scar without disrupting its overall structure.Together,these findings suggest that PTB knockdown may be a promising therapeutic strategy to promote motor function recovery during spinal cord repair.

A convenient synthetic protocol for the hexasubstituted benzene derivatives was successfully developed by DABCO promoted domino reaction of arylidene malononitrile with two molecules of dialkyl but-2-ynedioates.The domino reaction resulted in tetraalkyl 6-cyano-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2,3,4,5-tetracarboxylates in good to high yields.This formal[2+2+2]cycloaddition was believed to proceed with sequential nucleophilic addition.Michael addition,annulation and aromatization processes.

RING-box proteins regulate leaf senescence and stomatal closure via repression of ABA transporter gene ABCG40

Plant hormone abscisic acid(ABA)plays an indispensable role in the control of leaf senescence,during which ABA signaling depends on its biosynthesis.Nevertheless,the role of ABA transport in leaf senescence remains unknown.Here,we identified two novel RING-box protein-encoding genes UBIQUITIN LIGASE of SENESCENCE 1 and2(ULS1 and ULS2)involved in leaf senescence.Lack of ULS1 and ULS2 accelerates leaf senescence,which is specifically promoted by ABA treatment.Furthermore,the expression of senescence-related genes is significantly affected in mature leaves of uls1/uls2 double mutant(versus wild type(WT))in an ABA-dependent manner,and the ABA content is substantially increased.ULS1 and ULS2 are mainly expressed in the guard cells and aging leaves,and the expression is induced by ABA.Further RNA-seq and quantitative proteomics of ubiquitination reveal that ABA transporter ABCG40 is highly expressed in uls1/uls2 mutant versus WT,though it is not the direct target of ULS1/2.Finally,we show that the acceleration of leaf senescence,the increase of leaf ABA content,and the promotion of stomatal closure in uls1/usl2 mutant are suppressed by abcg40 loss-of-function mutation.These results indicate that ULS1 and ULS2 function in feedback inhibition of ABCG40-dependent ABA transport during ABA-induced leaf senescence and stomatal closure.

Highly sensitive and reliable detection of multiple myeloma remains a major challenge in liquid biopsy. Herein, for the first time, quantum dot-molecular beacon (QD-MB) functionalized MoS_(2) (QD-MB @MoS_(2)) fluorescent probes were designed for the dual detection of multiple myeloma (MM)-related miRNA-155 and miRNA-150. The results indicate that the two probes can effectively detect miRNA-155 and miRNA-150 simultaneously with satisfactory recovery rates, and the limit of detections (LODs) of miRNA-155 and miRNA-150 in human serum are low to 7.19 fM and 5.84 fM, respectively. These results indicate that our method is the most sensitive detection so far reported and that the designed fluorescent probes with signal amplification strategies can achieve highly sensitive detection of MM-related miRNAs for MM diagnosis.

Bofutsushosan ameliorates obesity in mice through modulating PGC-1α expression in brown adipose tissues and inhibiting inflammation in white adipose tissues

The inducible co-activator PGC-1α plays a crucial role in adaptive thermogenesis and increases energy expenditure in brown adipose tissue(BAT). Meanwhile, chronic inflammation caused by infiltrated-macrophage in the white adipose tissue(WAT) is a target for the treatment of obesity. Bofutsushosan(BF), a traditional Chinese medicine composed of 17 crude drugs, has been widely used to treat obesity in China, Japan, and other Asia countries. However, the mechanism underlying anti-obesity remains to be elucidated. In the present study, we demonstrated that BF oral administration reduced the body weight of obese mice induced by high-fat diet(HFD) and alleviated the level of biochemical markers(P < 0.05), including blood glucose(Glu), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low density lipoprotein(LDL-C) and insulin. Our further results also indicated that oral BF administration increased the expression of PGC-1α and UCP1 in BAT. Moreover, BF also reduced the expression of inflammatory cytokines in WAT, such as tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6). These findings suggested that the mechanism of BF against obesity was at least partially through increasing gene expression of PGC-1α and UCP1 for energy consumption in BAT and inhibiting inflammation in WAT.
