Physiotherapy for patients with depression:Recent research progress

Depression,a common mental illness,seriously affects the health of individuals and has deleterious effects on society.The prevention and treatment of depression has drawn the attention of many researchers and has become an important social issue.The treatment strategies for depression include drugs,psychotherapy,and physiotherapy.Drug therapy is ineffective in some patients and psychotherapy has treatment limitations.As a reliable adjuvant therapy,physiotherapy compensates for the shortcomings of drug and psychotherapy and effectively reduces the disease recurrence rate.Physiotherapy is more scientific and rigorous,its methods are diverse,and to a certain extent,provides more choices for the treatment of depression.Physiotherapy can relieve symptoms in many ways,such as by improving the levels of neurobiochemical molecules,inhibiting the inflammatory response,regulating the neuroendocrine system,and increasing neuroplasticity.Physiotherapy has biological effects similar to those of antidepressants and may produce a superimposed impact when combined with other treatments.This article summarizes the findings on the use of physiotherapy to treat patients with depression over the past five years.It also discusses several methods of physiotherapy for treating depression from the aspects of clinical effect,mechanism of action,and disadvantages,thereby serving as a reference for the in-depth development of physiotherapy research.

Interfacial charge redistribution to promote the catalytic activity of Vs-CoP-CoS_(2)/C n-n heterojunction for oxygen evolution

Modulating surface charge redistribution based on interface and defect engineering has been considered as a resultful means to boost electrocatalytic activity.However,the mechanism of synergistic regulation of heterojunction and vacancy defects remains unclear.Herein,a Vs-CoP-CoS_(2)/C n-n heterojunction with sulfur vacancies is successfully constructed,which manifests superior electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution,as demonstrated by a low overpotential of 170 mV to reach 10 mA/cm^(2).The experimental results and density functional theory calculations testify that the outstanding OER performance of Vs-CoP-CoS_(2)/C heterojunction is owed to the synergistic effect of sulfur vacancies and built-in electric field at n-n heterogeneous interface,which accelerates the electron transfer,induces the charge redistribution,and regulates the adsorption energy of active intermediates during the reaction.This study affords a promising means to regulate the electrocatalytic performance by the construction of heterogeneous interfaces and defects,and in-depth explores the synergistic mechanisms of n-n heterojunction and vacancies.

Synergy of phosphorus vacancies and build-in electric field into NiCo/NiCoP Mott-Schottky integrated electrode for enhanced water splitting performance

Vacancy engineering and Mott-Schottky heterostructure can accelerate charge transfer,regulate adsorption energy of reaction intermediates,and provide additional active sites,which are regarded as valid means for improving catalytic activity.However,the underlying mechanism of synergistic regulation of interfacial charge transfer and optimization of electrocatalytic activity by combining vacancy and Mott-Schottky junction remains unclear.Herein,the growth of a bifunctional NiCo/NiCoP Mott-Schottky electrode with abundant phosphorus vacancies on foam nickel(NF)has been synthesized through continuous phosphating and reduction processes.The obtained NiCo/NiCoP heterojunctions show remarkable OER and HER activities,and the overpotentials for OER and HER are as low as 117 and 60 mV at 10 mA/cm^(2) in 1 mol/L KOH,respectively.Moreover,as both the cathode and anode of overall water splitting,the voltage of the bifunctional NiCo/NiCoP electrocatalyst is 1.44 V at 10 mA/cm^(2),which are far exceeding the benchmark commercial electrodes.DFT theoretical calculation results confirm that the phosphorus vacancies and build-in electric field can effectively accelerate ion and electron transfer between NiCo alloy and NiCoP semiconductor,tailor the electronic structure of the metal centers and lower the Gibbs free energy of the intermediates.Furthermore,the unique self-supported integrated structure is beneficial to facilitate the exposure of the active site,avoid catalyst shedding,thus improving the activity and structural stability of NiCo/NiCoP.This study provides an avenue for the controllable synthesis and performance optimization of Mott-Schottky electrocatalysts.

Recently,electronic skins and fl exible wearable devices have been developed for widespread applications in medical monitoring,artifi cial intelligence,human–machine interaction,and artifi cial prosthetics.Flexible proximity sensors can accurately perceive external objects without contact,introducing a new way to achieve an ultrasensitive perception of objects.This article reviews the progress of fl exible capacitive proximity sensors,fl exible triboelectric proximity sensors,and fl exible gate-enhanced proximity sensors,focusing on their applications in the electronic skin fi eld.Herein,their working mechanism,materials,preparation methods,and research progress are discussed in detail.Finally,we summarize the future challenges in developing fl exible proximity sensors.

Character of Convective Systems Producing Short-Term Heavy Precipitation in Central China Revealed by Kilometer and Minute Interval Observations

Accurate forecasting of heavy precipitation in central China is still a challenge, within which a key issue is our still incomplete understanding of the convective systems（CSs） responsible for such events. In this study, through use of an iterative rain-cell tracking algorithm, the macroscale characteristics（scale, intensity, duration, etc.） of the CSs that produced 595 short-term heavy precipitation events in Hunan Province, central China, are quantitatively analyzed,based on radar reflectivity, echo top, and rainfall observations at 1-km and 6-min intervals in April–September of2016–2018. The results show that CSs present significant seasonal and diurnal features. Spring CSs usually cover a larger echo area with stronger convective cores and thus generate more precipitation than summer CSs, though summer CSs develop more vigorously and frequently. CSs initiated at 1400–1600 local time are characterized by the strongest convection and a smaller spatiotemporal scale, causing violent and transient showers with typical areal precipitation of 0.5–1mm km-2, but less total precipitation. Further analyses of the relationships among the scale, intensity, duration, and total precipitation of CSs reveal that the convective intensity is linearly correlated to the spatiotemporal scale of CSs, with the duration increasing on average by 0.0372 h dBZ-1; the echo area is significantly correlated to the total precipitation, and the duration and rainfall amount are connected with the area expansion rate（AER）of CSs: when the AER exceeds 50%, CSs expand rapidly with increasing total precipitation, but the duration is shorter.These findings provide a helpful reference for the forecasting of short-term heavy precipitation induced by CSs in central China.

STING signaling in islet macrophages impairs insulin secretion in obesity

The innate immune regulator stimulator of interferon genes(STING)mediates self-DNA sensing and leads to the induction of type I interferons and inflammatory cytokines,which promotes the progression of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.Innate immune system plays a critical role in regulating obesity-induced islet dysfunction,whereas the potential effect of STING signaling is not fully understood.Here,we demonstrate that STING is mainly expressed and activated in islet macrophages upon high-fat diet(HFD)feeding.Sting^(-/-)alleviates HFD-induced islet inflammation by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the infiltration of macrophages.Mechanically,palmitic acid incubation promotes mitochondrial DNA leakage into the cytosol and subsequently activates STING pathway in macrophages.Additionally,STING activation in macrophages impairs glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by mediating the engulfment ofβcell insulin secretory granules.Pharmacologically inhibiting STING activation enhances insulin secretion to control hyperglycemia.Together,our results reveal a regulatory mechanism in controlling the islet inflammation and insulin secretion in dietinduced obesity and suggest that selective blocking of the STING activation may be a promising strategy for treating type 2 diabetes.

Defined organic-octamolybdate crystalline superstructures derived Mo_(2)C@C as efficient hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts

Hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts derived from metal-organic crystalline frameworks can inherit the merits of ordered and adjustable structures with high surface area.In this paper,organic-octamolybdate crystalline superstructures(OOCS)with a fixed stoichiometric ratio of Mo_(8)(L)_(2) and high Mo content(>40 wt%)were synthesized using flexible ligands with controllable lengths(named as OOCS-1-3).Then,molybdenum carbides coated with carbon layers as electrocatalysts(Mo_(2)C@C-1-3)can be obtained directly from a one-step high-temperature carbonization process using OOCS-1-3 as precursors.As a typical example,Mo_(2)C@C-3 exhibits satisfactory hydrogen evolution activity with a low overpotential of 151 m V(1.0 mol/L KOH)at 10 m A/cm^(2) and stability for 24 h.The electrocatalytic activity is mainly from the synergistic interactions between the carbon layers and molybdenum carbide species.Furthermore,compared with the initial content of C,N,Mo in OOCS and Mo_(2)C@C,the catalytic activity increases with the N amount.This work makes organic-octamolybdate crystalline superstructures used as general precursors to product high Mo content electrocatalysts applied in energy storage and conversion fields.

Generative pretrained transformer 4:an innovative approach to facilitate value-based healthcare

Objective Appropriate medical imaging is important for value-based care.We aim to evaluate the performance of generative pretrained transformer 4(GPT-4),an innovative natural language processing model,providing appropriate medical imaging automatically in different clinical scenarios.Methods Institutional Review Boards(IRB)approval was not required due to the use of nonidentifiable data.Instead,we used 112 questions from the American College of Radiology(ACR)Radiology-TEACHES Program as prompts,which is an open-sourced question and answer program to guide appropriate medical imaging.We included 69 free-text case vignettes and 43 simplified cases.For the performance evaluation of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5,we considered the recommendations of ACR guidelines as the gold standard,and then three radiologists analyzed the consistency of the responses from the GPT models with those of the ACR.We set a five-score criterion for the evaluation of the consistency.A paired t-test was applied to assess the statistical significance of the findings.Results For the performance of the GPT models in free-text case vignettes,the accuracy of GPT-4 was 92.9%,whereas the accuracy of GPT-3.5 was just 78.3%.GPT-4 can provide more appropriate suggestions to reduce the overutilization of medical imaging than GPT-3.5(t=3.429,P=0.001).For the performance of the GPT models in simplified scenarios,the accuracy of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 was 66.5%and 60.0%,respectively.The differences were not statistically significant(t=1.858,P=0.070).GPT-4 was characterized by longer reaction times(27.1 s in average)and extensive responses(137.1 words on average)than GPT-3.5.Conclusion As an advanced tool for improving value-based healthcare in clinics,GPT-4 may guide appropriate medical imaging accurately and efficiently。

Plant anatomy is patterned early during leaf development which suggests studying the spatial–temporal transcriptomes of primordia will help identify critical regulative and functional genes.We successfully isolated the leaf primordia tissues from the C3grass rice and the C4grass foxtail millet by laser capture microdissection(LCM)and studied the gene expression throughout leaf developmental stages.Our data analysis uncovered the conserved expression patterns of certain gene clusters both in rice and foxtail millet during leaf development.We revealed genes and transcription factors involved in vein formation,stomatal development,and suberin accumulation.We identified 79 candidate genes associated with functional regulation of C4anatomy formation.Screening phenotype of the candidate genes revealed that knock-out of a putative polar auxin transport related gene NAL1 resulted significantly reduced veinal space in rice leaf.Our present work provides a foundation for future analyses of genes with novel functions in grasses and their role in leaf development,in particular the role in leaves with a contrasting C3vs.C4biosynthetic pathway.
