Exploring the therapeutic effect of single atom catalysts beyond reactive oxygen species(ROS)modulation would boost the prosperity of nanomedicine in cancer treatment.Autophagy as a vital therapy target offers new options for the control of renal cell carcinoma(RCC)progression.Herein,Fe single atom-decorated graphene oxide(Fe_(1)-GO)nanosheet is developed to be a feasible autophagy inducer in RCC treatment.With the well-dispersed O-Fe_(1)-O active sites,Fe_(1)-GO kills ACHN cells effectively but maintains acceptable cytotoxicity to the normal podocyte and HK2 ones.In-depth analyses ascribe the inhibition of ACHN cells to the upregulated autophagy instead of the commonly known catalytic ROS generation.The in vivo therapeutic effect of Fe_(1)-GO nanomedicine is also validated by the RCC-bearing BALB/c mice model,realizing an 89% reduction of tumor weight and good biosafety.This work provides new insights into the design of autophagy regulators as well as potential therapeutic strategies for RCC treatment.

A model for aircraft cabin evacuation considering passenger type

Pedestrian safety evacuation in aircraft cabins has been a challenging problem because of the aircraft’s unique characteristics,such as the diversity of passengers and the restricted evacuation environment.It is difficult to reproduce evacuation activities in aircraft cabin due to safety concerns and cost constraints.To fill this gap,an improved cellular automaton model of crowd evacuation for aircraft cabin is established by incorporating the characteristics of cabin space structures and passenger attributes.Passengers are divided into healthy individual passengers and disabled-healthy group passengers,whose movement mechanisms are quantified.Based on the constructed model,simulation experiments are conducted using the configuration cabin layout of B737-800 as an example.The results show that the evacuation time is prolonged with increased passenger density and the number of disabled passengers.Moreover,the overall evacuation time is insignificantly affected by whether disabled-healthy group passengers’seats are close to the aisle or window,and the evacuation efficiency is best when their seats are evenly distributed in the cabin.The evacuation time is the shortest when all cabin doors are open,and pedestrians are evacuated the slowest when the central emergency doors are closed.This study pro-vides valuable insights into effective strategies for pedestrian evacuation and crowd emergency management of civil aircraft.

2D materials are promising candidates as nonlinear optical components for on-chip devices due to their ultrathin structure. In general, their nonlinear optical responses are inherently weak due to the short interaction thickness with light. Recently, there has been great interest in using quasi-bound states in the continuum (q-BICs) of dielectric metasurfaces, which are able to achieve remarkable optical near-field enhancement for elevating the second harmonic generation (SHG) emission from 2D materials. However, most studies focus on the design of combining bulk dielectric metasurfaces with unpatterned 2D materials, which suffer considerable radiation loss and limit near-field enhancement by high-quality q-BIC resonances. Here, we investigate the dielectric metasurface evolution from bulk silicon to monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and discover the critical role of meta-atom thickness design on enhancing near-field effects of two q-BIC modes. We further introduce the strongcoupling of the two q-BIC modes by oblique incidence manipulation, and enhance the localized optical field on monolayer MoS2dramatically. In the ultraviolet and visible regions, the MoS2SHG enhancement factor of our design is 105times higher than that of conventional bulk metasurfaces, leading to an extremely high nonlinear conversion efficiency of 5.8%. Our research will provide an important theoretical guide for the design of high-performance nonlinear devices based on 2D materials.

For the basins with debris flow development,its channel terrain exhibits a tortuous shape,which significantly restricts the movement of debris flows and leads to severe erosion effects on the concave bank.Therefore,this study aims to analyze the shear force of debris flows within the bend channel.We established the relationship between the shear force and bend curvature through laboratory experiments.Under the long-term erosion by debris flows,the curvature radius of bends gradually increases,however,when this increasing trend reaches an equilibrium state with the intensity of debris flow discharge,there will be no significant change in curvature radius.In general,the activity pattern and discharges of debris flows would remain relatively stable.Hence,we can infer the magnitude of debris flow discharges from the terrain parameters of the bend channel.

Synthesizing bimetallic nanomaterials,with noble metals as the surface layers and inert metals as the substrates,has been proven to be an effective way to reduce the use of noble metals with maintained catalytic activity.However,an atomic diffusion from the inert substrate to the surface during the long-term operation has been reported to significantly decrease the activity.In this work,a series of catalysis-inert Cu-coated Ni foil were fabricated through electrodeposition and their activities for alkaline hydrogen evolution were investigated.Notably,the Ni/Cu-60 sample showed a similar catalytic property with pure Ni foil and only a slight decrease in HER activity was observed.The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results indicated a decreased electron concentration of Cu in Ni/Cu-60,and theoretical calculations further demonstrated the electron transfer between the Ni substrate and Cu layer.Our results reveal that a specific composition or structure of an inert metal layer might not significantly decrease the electrocatalytic activity of active metals.Moreover,there are more possibilities for the rational design of metal-based catalysts for electrocatalysis.

Surface acoustic wave(SAW)resonators based on lithium tantalate(LT,LiTaO_(3))wafers are crucial elements of mobile communication filters.The use of intrinsic LT wafers typically brings about low fabrication accuracy of SAW resonators due to strong UV reflection in the lithography process.This hinders their resonance frequency control seriously in industrial manufacture.LT doping and chemical reduction could be applied to decrease the UV reflection of LT wafers for high lithographic precision.However,conventional methods fail to provide a fast and nondestructive approach to identify the UV performance of standard single-side polished LT wafers for highprecision frequency control.Here,we propose a convenient on-line sensing scheme based on the colorimetry of reduced Fe-doped LT wafers and build up an automatic testing system for industrial applications.The levels of Fe doping and chemical reduction are evaluated by the lightness and color difference of LT-based wafers.The correlation between the wafer visible colorimetry and UV reflection is established to refine the lithography process and specifically manipulate the frequency performance of SAW resonators.Our study provides a powerful tool for the fabrication control of SAW resonators and will inspire more applications on sophisticated devices of mobile communication.

3d-transition metal(Fe,Co,Ni,and Mn)-based MXene materials have been predicted to demonstrate exceptional electrochemical performance because of their good electrical conductivity and the presence of metallic atoms with multiple charge states.However,until now,there have been no reports on MXenes based on Fe,Co,Ni,and Mn,due to the lack of 3d-metal-layered precursors.Herein,we successfully synthesized the first 3d-transition metal-based MXenes,Mn_(2)CT_(x) by exfoliating a layered precursor derived from the anti-perovskite bulk Mn3GaC.The as-prepared Mn_(2)CT_(x) MXene nanosheets were employed as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries,which exhibited stable storage capacity of 764.7 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.5 C,placing its storage capacities at an upper-middle level compared with other reported MXene materials as well as other Mn-based anode materials.Overall,this study opens a new avenue for MXene research by synthesizing 3d-transition metal-based MXenes for electrochemical applications.

The A_(2A)adenosine receptor(A_(2A)AR)has attracted attention as an emerging immunotherapeutic target with several antagonists being evaluated in clinical trials.However,A_(2A)AR antagonists show limited efficacy as monotherapies.Herein,we communicate our design and synthesis of a novel series of A_(2A)AR/histone deacetylase(HDAC)bifunctional inhibitors,based on the core structure of the A_(2A)AR antagonist The new compounds were designed using a pharmacophore-merging strategy and features a tri-substituted pyrimidine core.The binding affinity for A_(2A)AR and inhibitory activity against HDACs of all the new compounds were tested.A number of compounds exhibited nanomolar or subnanomolar activity against both targets and some showed equally potent antiproliferative activity against MC38,CT26 and HCT116 colon cancer lines compared to HDAC inhibitors SAHA and MGCD-0103 in vitro.The binding poses of compound 5a in both A_(2A)AR and HDAC1 were predicted by molecular docking studies.Collectively,these results suggest these tri-substituted pyrimidine derivatives are promising leads for developing A_(2A)AR/HDAC dual-acting compounds as novel antitumor agents.

Fermi level tuning in SnPbTe/Pb heterostructure via changing interface roughness

Superconducting SnTe-type topological crystalline insulators （TCIs） are predicted to host multiple Majorana zero modes（MZMs） which can coexist in a single vortex. Fermi level （FL） close to the Dirac points of topological surface states is helpful for detecting MZMs. However, the TCI SnTe is a heavily p-type semiconductor which is very difficult to modify to n-type via doping or alloying. In this work, we fabricate the atomically flat Sn1-xPbxTe/Pb heterostructure by molecular beam epitaxy, and make the p-type Sn1-xPbxTe become n-type through changing the interface roughness. Using scanning tunnelling microscope, we find the Dirac points of Sn1-xPbxTe/Pb heterostructure are always above the FL due to the Fermi level pinning （FLP） induced by topological surface states at atomically flat interface. After increasing the interface roughness, the FLP effect is suppressed and then the Dirac points of p-type Sn1-xPbxTe can be tuned very close to or even below the FL. Our work provides a new method for tuning the FL of SnTe-type TCI which has potential application in novel topological superconductor device.
