Visfatin, like insulin, induces phosphorylation of signal transduction proteins that operatate downstream of the insulin receptor. The present study is focused on detecting deletion of visfatin gene and analyzing its effect on growth traits in six Chinese cattle breeds （Nangyang, Luxi, Qinchuan, Jiaxian Red, Grassland Red, and Chinese Holstein） using DNA sequencing, PCR-SSCP and PCR-RFLP methods. For the first time, a 6-bp deletion of visfatin was described and two alleles were revealed：W and D. The χ2-test analysis demonstrated that all breeds were in agreement with Hardy-weinberg equilibrium （P〉0.05）. The associations of the novel 6-bp deletion of visfatin gene with growth traits of Nanyang cattle at 6-, 12-, 18-, and 24-mon-old were analyzed. Birth weight, 12- and 24-mon-old cattle with genotype WW had greater birth weight and average daily gain than genotype WD （P〈0.01 or P〈0.05）. These results suggest that the deletion may influence the birth weight and bodyweight in 12 mon-old cattle.

In this paper,a new and efficient way to oxidize and functionalize the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) has been developed by using a combination of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and Fenton oxida-tion process,namely UV/Fenton oxidation treatment. Comparing with conventionally individual Fenton oxidation treatment of MWNTs,UV/Fenton combined treatment improved the etching rates and effi-ciencies and hence reduced the time for surface modification of MWNTs,which was proved to be an effective method in etching and functionalizing CNTs. The formation of new functional groups,struc-tural changes and thermal stability during oxidation period were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),Raman spectroscopy and could be clarified by thermogravimetric analy-sis (TGA),which showed that it was under UV irradiation conditions that MWNTs could be rapidly functionalized with hydroxyl,carbonyl and carboxyl groups in the presence of Fenton reagents,origi-nating from the increase in the gross HO· concentration and the existent synergetic effect when using UV irradiation combing with Fenton oxidation process. Introduction of such new oxygen-containing functional groups was attributed to attacks of HO· on defect sites and unsaturated bonds of C=C in the MWNTs sample,which should play an important role in accounting for the FTIR and Raman spectral changes.

Streptococcus thermophilus is generally considered to be sensitive to bile salt stimulation,and its bile salt tolerance is strain *** this study,the viable bacteria count,sugar utilization capacity,β-galactosidase activity,and extracellular polysaccharide synthesis capacity of 5 strains of Streptococcus thermophilus in bile salt with or without(w/o)lactose were measured to explore the protective ability of lactose to the *** changes in gene expression in stress and carbohydrate metabolism-related pathways were *** results indicated that the protective effect of lactose on the bile salt stress response of Streptococcus thermophilus is strain ***β-galactosidase activity of the strains was correlated with the yield of exopolysaccharides(EPS)significantly,and the strain with a high survival rate(4M6)showed higher lactose utilization,β-galactosidase activity and more EPS production in general.

Single spore isolation is a fundamental approach in plant pathology and mycology to isolate and identify plant fungal pathogens from diseased ***,routine single spore isolation procedure is time-consuming and has a high risk of contamination by other *** this study,we developed a rapid approach for isolating a single spore of the fungal pathogen,Pyricularia oryzae,from rice blast diseased leaves in the paddy field with low potential of ***,rice blast leaves with single lesions were selected in the paddy field,and a single lesion was cut out and pressed and dragged gently across the surface of water ***,a germinated single spore with a barely visible piece of agar was cut out of water agar with a dissecting needle under a stereomicroscope at approximately 120-fold ***,the germinated single spore with water agar was transferred onto oatmeal tomato agar for growth and *** on our experience,a skilled technician or student can successfully isolate single spore from over 150 independent diseased samples with nearly no contaminations in a single working *** approach is also suitable for isolating single spore from other fungal disease samples that produce abundant aerial conidia.

AIM:To determine the etiologies,treatment modalities and visual outcomes of vitreous hemorrhage(VH;range from birth to 18 y).METHODS:A total of 262 eyes from 210 patients between January 2010 and September 2016 were *** children underwent an appropriate ocular and systemic *** collected included demographics,clinical manifestations,details of the ocular and systemic examination,management details,final fundus anatomy and visual acuity(VA).RESULTS:The most common etiologies were nontraumatic VH(64.89%),most of which were due to retinopathy of prematurity(ROP;37.10%);while traffic accidents,including 16(21.00%)eyes,was the most common ocular ***,performed in 143(54.58%)eyes,was the most common management *** initial mean baseline visual acuity was 2.77±0.21 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution(log MAR)in children and adolescent with traumatic VH,which was significantly improved to 2.15±1.31 log MAR(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:VH in children and adolescent has a complicated and diverse *** is the primary cause of non-traumatic VH,which is the most common *** treatment of traumatic VH is associated with obvious improvement in visual *** initial VA is one of most important predictors of outcome.

STABILITY OF ALPINE MEADOW ECOSYSTEM ON THE QINGHAI-TIBETAN PLATEAU

The meadow ecosystem on the Qing- hai-Tibetan Plateau is considered to be sensitive to climate change. An understanding of the alpine meadow ecosystem is therefore important for pre- dicting the response of ecosystems to climate change. In this study, we use the coefficients of variation (Cv) and stability (E) obtained from the Haibei Alpine Meadow Ecosystem Research Station to characterize the ecosystem stability. The results suggest that the net primary production of the alpine meadow eco- system was more stable (Cv = 13.18%) than annual precipitation (Cv = 16.55%) and annual mean air temperature (Cv = 28.82%). The net primary produc- tion was insensitive to either the precipitation (E = 0.0782) or air temperature (E = 0.1113). In summary, the alpine meadow ecosystem on the Qinghai- Tibetan Plateau is much stable. Comparison of alpine meadow ecosystem stability with other five natural grassland ecosystems in Israel and southern African indicates that the alpine meadow ecosystem on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is the most stable ecosys- tem. The alpine meadow ecosystem with relatively simple structure has high stability, which indicates that community stability is not only correlated with biodiversity and community complicity but also with environmental stability. An average oscillation cycles of 3―4 years existed in annual precipitation, annual mean air temperature, net primary production and the population size of consumers at the Haibei natural ecosystem. The high stability of the alpine meadow ecosystem may be resulting also from the adaptation of the ecosystem to the alpine environment.

Aiming at the problemthat the traditional short-circuit current calculationmethod is not applicable to Distributed Generation(DG)accessing the distribution network,the paper proposes a short-circuit current partitioning calculation method considering the degree of voltage drop at the grid-connected point of ***,the output characteristics of DG in the process of low voltage ride through are analyzed,and the equivalent output model of DG in the fault state is ***,by studying the network voltage distribution law after fault in distribution networks under different DG penetration rates,the degree of voltage drop at the grid-connected point of DG is used as a partition index to partition the distribution ***,iterative computation is performed within each partition,and data are transferred between partitions through split nodes to realize the fast partition calculation of short-circuit current for high proportion DG access to distribution network,which solves the problems of long iteration time and large calculation error of traditional short-circuit ***,a 62-node real distribution network model containing a high proportion of DG access is constructed onMATLAB/Simulink,and the simulation verifies the effectiveness of the short-circuit current partitioning calculation method proposed in the paper,and its calculation speed is improved by 48.35%compared with the global iteration method.

Artemisia argyi is a traditional Chinese food and medicine which can improve multiple diseases such as asthma and gastrointestinal ***,whether the beneficial bioactivities are associated with microbial fermentation remain *** objective of this study was to investigate the effects of fermentation on bioactive compounds,antioxidant activity,and flavor characteristics of Artemisia argyi fermentation liquid(AAFL-LP)by an autochthonous strain,Lactiplantibacillus plantarum *** WLPL01 was found to utilize sugars and flavonoids to produce abundant organic acids,such as lactic acid and malic acid,improve antioxidant activity of Artemisia argyi including total superoxide dismutase content,1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)radical-scavenging capacity,and Fe-reducing antioxidant power,decrease largely bitter taste notes such as leucine,isoleucine,and phenylalanine,and enhance fruity,sweet,and flora notes such as terpenes and esters of ***,*** WLPL01 could improve the functionality of *** and the flavor of the product,suggesting it a promising candidate in developing functional *** food.
