Carbon-based nanomaterials cause toxicity by oxidative stress to the liver and brain in Sprague-Dawley rats

Carbon-based nanomaterials have important research significance in various disciplines,such as composite materials,nanoelectronic devices,biosensors,biological imaging,and drug ***,the human and ecological risks associated with carbon-based nanomaterials have received increasing ***,the biological safety of carbon based nanomaterials has not been systematically *** this study,we used different types of carbon materials,namely,graphene oxide(GO),single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs),and multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs),as models to observe their distribution and oxidative damage in *** results of Histopathological and ultrastructural examinations indicated that the liver and lungs were the main accumulation targets of these ***-μ-XRF analysis revealed that SWCNTs and MWCNTs might be present in the *** shows that the three types of carbon-based nanomaterials could cross the gas-blood barrier and eventually reach the liver *** addition,SWCNTs and MWCNTs could cross the blood-brain barrier and accumulate in the cerebral *** increase in ROS and MDA levels and the decrease in GSH,SOD,and CAT levels indicated that the three types of nanomaterials might cause oxidative stress in the *** suggests that direct instillation of these carbon-based nanomaterials into rats could induce ROS *** addition,iron(Fe)contaminants in these nanomaterials were a definite source of free ***,these nanomaterials did not cause obvious damage to the rat brain *** deposition of selenoprotein in the rat brain was found to be related to oxidative stress and Fe *** information may support the development of secure and reasonable applications of the studied carbon-based nanomaterials.

Experimental investigation on using CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion with high water cut in enhanced oil recovery

CO_(2) emulsions used for EOR have received a lot of interest because of its good performance on CO_(2)mobility ***,most of them have been focusing on the high quality CO_(2) emulsion(high CO_(2) fraction),while CO_(2) emulsion with high water cut has been rarely *** this paper,we carried out a comprehensive experimental study of using high water cut CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion for enhancing oil ***,a nonionic surfactant,alkyl glycosides(APG),was selected to stabilize CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion,and the corresponding morphology and stability were evaluated with a transparent PVT ***,plugging capacity and apparent viscosity of CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion were measured systematically by a sand pack displacement apparatus connected with a 1.95-m long capillary ***,a high water cut(40 vol%) CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion was selected for flooding experiments in a long sand pack and a core sample,and the oil recovery,the rate of oil recovery,and the pressure gradients were *** results indicated that APG had a good performance on emulsifying and stabilizing CO_(2) *** inversion from H_(2)O/CO_(2) emulsion to CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion with the increase in water cut was ***_(2)/H_(2)O emulsions with lower water cuts presented higher apparent viscosity,while the optimal plugging capacity of CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion occurred at a certain water ***,the displacement using CO_(2)/H_(2)O emulsion provided 18.98% and 13.36% additional oil recovery than that using pure CO_(2) in long sand pack and core tests,*** work may provide guidelines for EOR using CO_(2) emulsions with high water cut.

＜正＞Sequential hermaphroditism is a common reproductive strategy in many teleosts. Steroid production is known to mediate both the natural and induced sex change, yet beyond this the physiology directing this process has received little attention. Cytochrome P-450 aromatase is a key enzyme in the hormonal pathway catalyzing the ’conversion of sex steroids, androgens to oestrogens, and thus is highly relevant to the process of sex change. Here we report the cloning, tissue expression, and structure analysis of P-450 aromatase gene of rice field eel （Monopteras albus）, a kind of protogynous hermaphrodite, using RT-PCR, RACE and fluorescent real-time quantity RT-PCR. The ovary-derived cDNA was 1 802 bp with 49 bp 5’UTR, 202 bp 3’UTR （excluding poly [A]） and 1 551 bp ORF, which encodes 517 amino acids and has a predicted mol wt of 58. 2 kDa. Comparison of the P-450arom cDNA and DNA sequence revealed there were seven introns in the P-450 aromatase gene which were distributed as medaka P-450arom, but lacked an intron between I-helix and aro-matase-specific conserved region. Phylogenetic analysis results suggested the rice field eel ovarian P450arom shares 63% -80% sequence identity with ovarian aromatases of other fish species, but only 58% -60% with brain-derived aromatases of other fishes,. 50% -52% with human being placenta and chicken ovarian aromatases. But the i-dentity/similarity was higher （70% - 100% ） in the regions of high homology, inclu- ding the I-helix, an aromatase-specific conserved region, and the heme-binding region. The rice field eel ovarian aromatase was clustered into ovarian branch and closest with tilapia and medaka ovarian P-450arom. The fluorescent real-time quantity RT-PCR was developed to analyze tissue-specific expression of P-450arom in female and male rice field eel with β-actin as internal standard.
