Recent studies have shown that cellular levels of polyamines(PAs)are significantly altered in neurodegenerative diseases.Evidence from in vivo animal and in vitro cell experiments suggests that the cellular levels of various PAs may play important roles in the central nervous system through the regulation of oxidative stress,mitochondrial metabolism,cellular immunity,and ion channel functions.Dysfunction of PA metabolism related enzymes also contributes to neuronal injury and cognitive impairment in many neurodegenerative diseases.Therefore,in the current work,evidence was collected to determine the possible associations between cellular levels of PAs,and related enzymes and the development of several neurodegenerative diseases,which could provide a new idea for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in the future.

Investigations on the Interactions between Li-TFSI and Glass Fibers in the Ternary PP/GF/Li-TFSI Composites

The polypropylene/glass fiber（PP/GF） composites with excellent antistatic performance and improved mechanical properties have been reported by incorporation of a very small amount of the organic salt, lithium bis（trifluoromethanesulfonyl）imide（Li-TFSI）, into the PP/GF composites. It was considered that GF could play the role as the pathways for the movements of ions in the ternary composites. In this work, the interactions between Li-TFSI and glass fiber and the effects of such interactions on the physical properties of the composites have been systematically investigated. Three types of glass fibers with different ―OH group concentrations have been prepared in order to compare the interactions between GF and Li-TFSI. It was found that the ―OH group concentrations on the surface of glass fiber have significant effects on interactions between glass fibers and Li-TFSI. Such interactions are crucial for both the antistatic and mechanical performances of the final PP/GF/Li-TFSI composites. The investigation indicated that the GF with high ―OH group concentrations confined the movement of TFSI-, which decreased the antistatic properties of PP/GF/Li-TFSI composites. On the other hand, the GF with low ―OH group concentrations inhibited the absorption of Li-TFSI onto the GF, which also hindered the formation of Li-TFSI conductive pathway. The best antistatic performance of the ternary composites can be achieved at the intermediate ―OH concentrations on the GF.

Association between Genetic Variants of Transforming Growth Factor-β1 and Susceptibility of Pneumoconiosis： A Meta-analysis

Background： Transforming growth factor-beta 1 （TGF-β 1） and gene variants have been extensively studied in various human diseases. For example, TGF-β1 polymorphisms were associated with fibrosis and pneumoconiosis, but the data remained controversial. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the association between TGF-β1-509 C〉T [rs 1800469], ＋869 T〉C [rs 1800470], and ＋915 G〉C [rs 1800471 ] polymorphisms and pneumoconiosis, Methods： A comprehensive literature search was conducted through searching in PubMed, Embase, the Chinese Biomedical Database, and the Wei Pu （Chinese） Database by the end of April 2016. Eleven publications with 21 studies were included in this recta-analysis, covering a total of 4333 patients with pneumoconiosis and 3478 controls. Study quality was assessed, and heterogeneity and publication bias were measured. All statistical analyses were performed using STATA version 12.0 （StataCorp, College Station, TX, USA） software. Results： The data showed significant associations between TGF-β1-509 C〉T polymorphism and the risk ofpneumoconiosis development （T vs. C, odds ratio [OR] = 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]： 1.00-1.81, P = 0.046）; between TGF-fll ＋915 G〉C polymorphism and the pneumoconiosis risk （C vs. G, OR = 1.69, 95% CI： 1.19-2.40, P = 0.004; CG vs. GG, OR = 1.79, 95% CI： 1.23-2.60, P = 0.002; CC＋CG vs. GG, OR = 1.80, 95% CI： 1.24-2.61, P = 0.002）. In addition, the subgroup analysis of ethnicity versus pneumoconiosis types indicated a significant association of silicosis among Asian populations but not that of coal workers＇ pneumoconiosis in Caucasian populations. In contrast, no significant association was exhibited between TGF-β1 ＋869 T〉C polymorphism and risk ofpneumoconiosis. Conclusion： The polymorphisms of both TGF-β1 -509 C〉T and ＋915 G〉C are associated with increased risk of pneumoconiosis. Wnt/Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3β/β-catenin Signaling Activation Mediated Sevoflurane Preconditioning-induced Cardioprotection

Background： Sevoflurane preconditioning （SP） has been shown to invoke potent myocardial protection in animal studies and clinical trials. However, the mechanisms underlying SP are complex and not yet well understood. We investigated the hypothesis that the cardioprotection afforded by SP is mediated via the Writ/glycogen synthase kinase 3β（GSK3β）/β-catenin signaling pathway. Methods： Two models were established： A Langendorffperfused rat heart model and the H9C2 cell hypoxia/reoxygenation model. Both rats and H9C2 cells were randomly divided into 6 groups as follows： S group, ischemia-reperfusion （I/R） group, DMSO group, IWP group, SP group, and SP ＋ IWP group. Hemodynamic parameters, lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） activity in coronary effluent and cell culture supernatant, and the infarct size were measured to evaluate myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injuries. To determine the activity of Wnt/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway, the expressions of Wnt3a, phospho-GSK3β, and β-catenin were measured by Western blotting. Results： SP improved cardiac function recovery, reduced infarct size （18 ±2% in the SP group compared with 35 ± 4% in the 1/R group; P 〈 0.05）, decreased LDH activity in coronary effluent, and culture supematant. IWP-2, an inhibitor of Wnt, abolished the cardioprotection by SR In addition, Western blotting analysis demonstrated that the expressions of Wnt3a, phospho-GSK3β, and β-catenin significantly （P 〈 0.05） increased in the I/R group, compared with the S group; and compared to I/R group, SP significantly （P 〈 0.05） increased Wnt3a, phospho-GSK3 β, and β-catenin expressions. Pretreatment with IWP-2 significantly （P 〈 0.05） abolished SP-induced Wnt/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling activation. Conclusions： The results showed for the first time that cardioprotection afforded by SP may be mediated partly via the Wnt/GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Visual analytics of taxi trajectory data via topical sub-trajectories

GPS-based taxi trajectories contain valuable knowledge about movement patterns for transportation and urban planning.Topic modeling is an effective tool to extract semantic information from taxi trajectory data.However,previous methods generally ignore trajectory directions that are important in the analysis of movement patterns.In this paper,we employ the bigram topic model rather than traditional topic models to analyze textualized trajectories and consider the direction information of trajectories.We further propose a modified Apriori algorithm to extract topical sub-trajectories and use them to represent each topic.Finally,we design a visual analytics system with several linked views to facilitate users to interactively explore movement patterns from topics and topical sub-trajectories.The case studies with Chengdu taxi trajectory data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Sirolimus improves the prognosis of liver recipients with hepatocellular carcinoma:A single-center experience

Background:Tumor recurrence after liver transplantation(LT)for selective patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in the setting of cirrhosis is the greatest challenge effecting the prognosis of these patients.The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of sirolimus on the prognosis for these recipients.Methods:The data from 193 consecutive HCC patients who had undergone LT from January 2015 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.These patients were divided into the sirolimus group[patients took sirolimus combined with calcineurin inhibitors(CNIs)(n=125)]and non-sirolimus group[patients took CNI-based therapy without sirolimus(n=68)].Recurrence-free survival(RFS)and overall survival(OS)were compared between the two groups.The prognostic factors and independent risk factors for RFS and OS were further evaluated.Results:Non-sirolimus was an independent risk factor for RFS(HR=2.990;95%CI:1.050-8.470;P=0.040)and OS(HR=3.100;95%CI:1.190-8.000;P=0.020).A higher proportion of patients beyond Hangzhou criteria was divided into the sirolimus group(69.6%vs.80.9%,P=0.030).Compared with the non-sirolimus group,the sirolimus group had significantly better RFS(P<0.001)and OS(P<0.001).Further subgroup analysis showed similar results.Conclusions:This study demonstrated that sirolimus significantly decreased HCC recurrence and prolonged RFS and OS in LT patients with different stage of HCC.

The ultrahigh specific energy density and low cost of lithium-sulfur batteries are suitable for the next generation of energy storage.However,the shuttle issue and sluggish conversion kinetics of polysulfides remain unsolved.Confining metal nanoclusters with strong polarity in conductive porous carbon is an effective strategy for tackling such knotty issues.Herein,we design and synthesize hollow cubic carbon embedded with highly dispersed cobalt nanoclusters as an effective sulfur reservoir for lithium sulfur batteries.The large cavity structure and well-dispersed cobalt nanoclusters,with uniform sizes near 11 nm,enable the hosting structure to hold the high sulfur loading,70%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 2 C with a high sulfur loading of 6.5 mg·cm^(−2),effective stress release,accelerated polysulfide conversion,superior rate performance,strong physical confinement and chemical absorption capability.Further density functional theoretical calculations demonstrate that the welldispersed cobalt nanoclusters in the hosting structure play a critical electrocatalytic role in boosting the capability of absorbing and converting polysulfides.

N_(x)O emissions in response to the irrigation lower limits under different irrigation modes in a lettuce field

Irrigation has a significant impact on N_(x)O(N_(2)O and NO)emissions from cultivated land,yet the N_(2)O or NO emission among the irrigation lower limits under different irrigation modes has not been well compared.In an irrigated lettuce field,three DR(drip irrigation)lower limits were designed,including 75%(DR1),65%(DR2)and 55%(DR3)field capacity,and one FI(furrow irrigation)lower limit(65%field capacity).The N_(2)O and NO emission fluxes and soil nitrogen(N)forms were determined,and the linear correlation between these indicators was analyzed.Results showed that under the same irrigation regime,the N_(2)O and NO emissions from furrow irrigation treatment increased by 36.8%and 45.2%respectively compared to that from drip irrigation treatment.The cumulative N_(2)O and NO emissions under DR3 were 30.2%and 28.6%higher than under DR1,respectively.Moreover,DR1 was also the lowest among the four treatments in soil-N concentration.The N_(2)O and NO emission fluxes were more correlated to soil NH_(4)^(+)-N(r=0.88 and 0.76)or NO_(2)^(-)-N(r=0.90 and 0.80)concentration than soil-N and soluble organic N,indicating that N_(2)O and NO were mainly produced by the soil nitrification process.When the irrigation regime was the same,N_(2)O and NO emissions were lower with drip irrigation than with furrow irrigation.Besides,drip irrigation with small quota but high frequency reduced N_(2)O and NO emission compared to that with large quota but low frequency.

Antistatic Structural Color and Photoluminescent Membranes from Co-assembling Cellulose Nanocrystals and Carbon Nanomaterials for Anti-counterfeiting

Static charges on optical ant-counterfeiting membranes may lead to materials structural changes,dust stain aggravation,and misreading of optical information.Incorporating conductive particles is a common way to transfer accumulative charges,but the key issue is how to achieve high dispersion and effective distribution of particles.According to the strategy of assembly-induced structural colors,cellulose nanocrystals(CNCS)were employed as a solid emulsifier to stabilize hydrophobic carbon nanoparticles(CNPs)in aqueous media;subsequently.by solvent evaporation-modulated co-assembly under a condition of 30°C and 20 RH%,the binary suspensions containing 2wt% CNC and CNPs with the equivalent concentration relative to CNC ranged from 1:40 to 1:10 were used to prepare antistatic composite membranes.Surface chemistry regulation of CNCs was applied to optimize the dispersiblity of CNPs and the orientation of assembled CNC arrays,and the hydrophilic CNCS were more favorable for dispersion and assembly of binary suspension systems.Meanwhile,one dimension carbon nanotube(CNT)and zero-dimension carbon black(CB)were found to show better dispersibility than two dimension graphene,which was verified by a semi-quantitative theoretical study.Moreover,the stable binary systems of CNT/CNC and CB/CNC were chosen for co-assembly as membranes,and the uniaxial orientation could be optimized as the fll-width of 9.8°at half maximum deviation angle while the surface resistivity could also drop down to 3.42 × 102 Qcmcm-1.The structural color character of such paper homology and antistatic integrated membranes contributes to optical information hiding and-reading,and shows great potential as optical mark recognition materials for electrostatic discharge protective packaging and anti.counterfeiting applications.

Picoliter droplet array based on bioinspired microholes for in situ single-cell analysis

The division of aqueous samples into microdroplet arrays has many applications in biochemical and medical analysis.Inspired by biological features,we propose a method to produce picoliter droplet arrays for single-cell analysis based on physical structure and interface.A 0.9 pL droplet array with an RSD(relative standard deviation)less than 6.3%and a density of 49,000 droplets/cm^(2) was successfully generated on a PDMS chip(polydimethylsiloxane)from a micromachined glass mold.The droplet generation principle of the wetting behavior in the microholes with splayed sidewalls on the PDMS chip by liquid smearing was exploited.The feasibility of the picoliter droplets for bacterial single-cell analysis was verified by the separation of mixed bacteria into single droplets and isolated in situ bacteria propagation.
