Experimental study of debris flow caused by domino failures of landslide dams

The formation of landslide dams is often induced by earthquakes in mountainous *** failure of a landslide dam typically results in catastrophic flash floods or debris flows *** attention has been given to the processes and mechanisms involved in the failure of individual landslide ***,the processes leading to domino failures of multiple landslide dams remain *** this study,experimental tests were carried out to investigate the domino failure of landslide dams and the consequent enlargement of downstream debris *** blockage conditions were considered,including complete blockage,partial blockage and erodible bed(no blockage).The mean velocity of the flow front was estimated by *** stress transducers(TSTs)and Laser range finders(LRFs) were employed to measure the total stress and the depth of the flow front,*** a complete blockage pattern,a portion of the debris flow was trapped in front of each retained landslide dam before the latter collapsed *** was accompanied by a dramatic decrease in the mean velocity of the flow ***,under both partial blockage and erodible bed conditions,the mean velocity of the flow front increased gradually downward along the sloping *** failures of the landslide dams were triggered when a series of dams(complete blockage and partial blockage) were distributed along the ***,not all of these domino failures led to enlarged debris *** modes of dam failures have significant impacts on the enlargement of debris ***,further research is necessary to understand the mechanisms of domino failures of landslide dams and their effects on the enlargement of debris flows.

Introduction. A series of trinuclear molybdenum clusters has been synthesized and identified. Most of them have almost the sameMo-Mo distance. We have synthesized another kind of trinuclear molybdenum complex which has different Mo-Mo distances and can be comsidered as composed of the complex (MoOS（py）)+ and the molbdenic ion （MoO）-. This paper reports the synthesis and structure of the title compound.

High Mountain Asia(HMA)shows a remarkable warming tendency and divergent trend of regional precipitation with enhanced meteorological *** rapid thawing of the HMA cryosphere may alter the magnitude and frequency of nature *** reviewed the influence of climate change on various types of nature hazards in HMA region,including their phenomena,mechanisms and *** reveals that:1)the occurrences of extreme rainfall,heavy snowfall,and drifting snow hazards are escalating;accelerated ice and snow melting have advanced the onset and increased the magnitude of snowmelt floods;2)due to elevating trigger factors,such as glacier debuttressing and the rapid shift of thermal and hydrological regime of bedrock/snow/ice interface or subsurface,the mass flow hazards including bedrock landslide,snow avalanche,ice-rock avalanches or glacier detachment,and debris flow will become more severe;3)increased active-layer detachment and retrogressive thaw slumps slope failures,thaw settlement and thermokarst lake will damage many important engineering structures and infrastructure in permafrost region;4)multi-hazards cascading hazard in HMA,such as the glacial lake outburst flood(GLOF)and avalanche-induced mass flow may greatly enlarge the destructive power of the primary hazard by amplifying its volume,mobility,and impact force;and 5)enhanced slope instability and sediment supply in the highland areas could impose remote catastrophic impacts upon lowland regions,and threat hydropower security and future water *** future,ongoing thawing of HMA will profoundly weaken the multiple-phase material of bedrock,ice,water,and soil,and enhance activities of nature *** and cascading hazards of high magnitude will prevail in *** the glacier runoff overpasses the peak water,low flow or droughts in lowland areas downstream of glacierized mountain regions will became more frequent and *** escalating hazards in the HMA region requires tackling s

Prompt fission neutron uranium logging(Ⅱ):dead-time effect of the neutron time spectrum

The acquisition of neutron time spectrum data plays a pivotal role in the precise quantification of uranium via prompt fission neutron uranium logging(PFNUL).However,the impact of the detector dead-time effect remains paramount in the accurate acquisition of the neutron time ***,it is imperative for neutron logging instruments to establish a dead-time correction method that is not only uncomplicated but also practical and caters to various logging *** study has formulated an innovative equation for determining dead time and introduced a dead-time correction method for the neutron time spectrum,called the“dual flux method.”Using this approach,a logging instrument captures two neutron time spectra under disparate neutron *** carefully selecting specific“windows”on the neutron time spectrum,the dead time can be accurately *** substantiate its efficacy and discern the influencing factors,experiments were conducted utilizing a deuterium-tritium(D-T)neutron source,a Helium-3(3He)detector,and polyethylene shielding to collate and analyze the neutron time spectrum under varying neutron fluxes(at high voltages).The findings underscore that the“height”and“spacing”of the two windows are the most pivotal influencing ***,the“height”(fd)should surpass 2,and the“spacing”twd should exceed 200μ*** dead time of the 3 He detector determined in the experiment was 7.35μ*** the dead-time correction,the deviation of the decay coefficients from the theoretical values for the neutron time spectrum under varying neutron fluxes decreased from 12.4%to within 5%.Similarly,for the PFNUL instrument,the deviation in the decay coefficients decreased from 22.94 to 0.49%after correcting for the dead-time *** results demonstrate the exceptional efficacy of the proposed method in ensuring precise uranium *** dual flux method was experimentally validated as a universal approach applicable to pulsed neutron logging instrumen

Fluid channeling caused by seal failure at the cement sheath-formation interface during fracturing is a severe problem in oil gas *** this study,a novel model was developed to evaluate interface sealing *** model's accuracy was verified based on a self-developed interface seal evaluation device and an ***,the interface seal under different formation conditions was investigated using this *** theoretical calculation showed that for a cement sheath-carbonate formation interface,the channeling of acid-fracturing fluid caused interface seal failure and sustained casing pressure in the annulus space between the technical casing and *** channeling between the fracturing sections occurred at the cement sheathshale formation interface during *** a sandstone formation,the interface seal failure caused the channeling between a water-bearing formation and a sandstone *** at different formation conditions,the mechanical properties requirements of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of cement sheath were proposed respectively to ensure its seal *** proposed model and method can be used to evaluate and optimize sealing integrity during fracturing.

Dispatchable Capability of Aggregated Electric Vehicle Charging in Distribution Systems

This paper introduces a method for modeling the entire aggregated electric vehicle(EV)charging process and analyzing its dispatchable *** methodology involves developing a model for aggregated EV charging at the charging station level,estimating its physical dispatchable capability,determining its economic dispatchable capability under economic incentives,modeling its participation in the grid,and investigating the effects of different scenarios and EV penetration on the aggregated load dispatch and dispatchable *** results indicate that using economic dispatchable capability reduces charging prices by 9.7%compared to physical dispatchable capability and 9.3%compared to disorderly ***,the peak-to-valley difference is reduced by 64.6%when applying economic dispatchable capability with 20%EV penetration and residential base load,compared to disorderly charging.

Quantum-enhanced interferometry with unbalanced entangled coherent states

We propose a quantum-enhanced metrological scheme utilizing unbalanced entangled coherent states(ECSs) generated by passing a coherent state and a coherent state superposition through an unbalanced beam splitter(BS). We identify the optimal phase sensitivity of this scheme by maximizing the quantum Fisher information(QFI) with respect to the BS transmission ratio. Our scheme outperforms the conventional scheme with a balanced BS, particularly in the presence of single-mode photon loss. Notably, our scheme retains quantum advantage in phase sensitivity in the limit of high photon intensity, where the balanced scheme offers no advantage over the classical strategy.
