Treatment for gastric ‘indefinite for neoplasm/dysplasia' lesions based on predictive factors

BACKGROUND Gastric ‘indefinite for neoplasm/dysplasia'(IFND) is a borderline lesion that is difficult to diagnose as either regenerative or neoplastic. There is a need for guidance in the identification of a subset of patients, who have an IFND lesion with a higher risk of malignant potential, to enable risk stratification and optimal *** To determine the clinical and pathologic factors for the accurate diagnosis of gastric IFND *** In total, 461 gastric lesions diagnosed via biopsy as IFND lesions were retrospectively evaluated. Endoscopic resection(n = 134), surgery(n = 22), and follow-up endoscopic biopsy(n = 305) were performed to confirm the *** time interval from initial biopsy to cancer diagnosis was measured, and diagnostic delays were categorized as > 2 wk, > 2 mo, > 6 mo, and > 1 year. The IFND lesions presenting as regenerating atypia(60%) or atypical epithelia(40%)at initial biopsy were adenocarcinomas in 22.6%, adenomas in 8.9%, and gastritis in 68.5% of the *** Four clinical factors [age ≥ 60 years(2.445, 95%CI: 1.305-4.580, P = 0.005),endoscopic size ≥ 10 mm(3.519, 95%CI: 1.891-6.548, P < 0.001), single lesion(5.702, 95%CI: 2.212-14.696, P < 0.001), and spontaneous bleeding(4.056, 95%CI:1.792-9.180, P = 0.001)], and two pathologic factors [atypical epithelium(25.575,95%CI: 11.537-56.695, P < 0.001], and repeated IFND diagnosis [6.022, 95%CI:1.822-19.909, P = 0.003)] were independent risk factors for gastric cancer. With two or more clinical factors, the sensitivity and specificity for carcinoma were91.3% and 54.9%, respectively. Ten undifferentiated carcinomas were initially diagnosed as IFND. In the subgroup analysis, fold change(5.594, 95%CI: 1.458-21.462, P = 0.012) predicted undifferentiated or invasive carcinoma in the submucosal layers or deeper. Creep and tensile properties of press molding joined GMT-sheets

GMT-sheet is used in automobile bumper with high rigidity and strength, and its joining strength is influenced by lap length, one of the joined molding conditions. Fracture strength was calculated by dividing fracture load with cross-sectional area. Total five repeated measurements were made to obtain the average value. Tensile test was conducted at room temperature for 10 specimens. In addition, the effect of compression ratio on creep and tensile performance during lap joined molding was discussed. With increasing lap length, the lap joining efficiency of GMT-sheet was increased. However, higher compression ratio reduced the joining efficiency. Creep test on GMT-sheet showed abrupt fracture without tertiary creep. This can be explained by the weak thermal resistance of the resin. If GMT-sheet was exposed to high temperature for a long time, it was easily failed by external force.

Mo and Ta addition in NbTiZr medium entropy alloy to overcome tensile yield strength-ductility trade-off

In this study,single-phase NbTiZr and NbTiZr(MoTa)_(0.1) medium-entropy alloys(MEAs)were investigated for their use in biomedical *** alloys were prepared by arc melting,and were then cold-rolled,annealed,and characterized in terms of phase analysis,mechanical properties,fractography,and wear *** alloys showed a single body-centered cubic phase with superior mechanical,and tribological properties compared to commercially available biomedical *** and Ta-containing MEAs showed higher tensile yield strength(1060±18 MPa)and higher tensile ductility(~20%),thus overcoming the strength-ductility trade-off with no signs of transformation-induced plasticity,twinning,or *** generalized stacking fault energy(GSFE)calculations on the{112}slip system by the first-principles calculations based on density functional theory showed that the addition of less than0.2 molar fraction of Mo and Ta lowers the GSFE *** behavior posits the increase in ductility of the alloy by facilitating slips although strength is also increased by solid solution *** wear resistance of both alloys against hardened steel surfaces was superior to that of commercial biomedical ***,we concluded that NbTiZr(MoTa)_(0.1)MEA with good tensile ductility is a potential candidate for biomedical implants.

Sub-2 nm mixed metal oxide for electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide

Multi-View Multi-Modal Head-Gaze Estimation for Advanced Indoor User Interaction

Gaze estimation is one of the most promising technologies for supporting indoor monitoring and interaction ***,previous gaze estimation techniques generally work only in a controlled laboratory environment because they require a number of high-resolution eye *** makes them unsuitable for welfare and healthcare facilities with the following challenging characteristics:1)users’continuous movements,2)various lighting conditions,and 3)a limited amount of available *** address these issues,we introduce a multi-view multi-modal head-gaze estimation system that translates the user’s head orientation into the gaze *** proposed system captures the user using multiple cameras with depth and infrared modalities to train more robust gaze estimators under the aforementioned *** this end,we implemented a deep learning pipeline that can handle different types and combinations of *** proposed system was evaluated using the data collected from 10 volunteer participants to analyze how the use of single/multiple cameras and modalities affect the performance of head-gaze *** various experiments,we found that 1)an infrared-modality provides more useful features than a depth-modality,2)multi-view multi-modal approaches provide better accuracy than singleview single-modal approaches,and 3)the proposed estimators achieve a high inference efficiency that can be used in real-time applications.

In this review intended for medical staff involved in patient rehabilitation,we provided an overview of the basic methods for managing amputation *** the amputation surgery,it is imperative to optimize the remaining physical abilities of the amputee through rehabilitation processes,including postoperative rehabilitation,desensitization,and continuous application of soft or rigid dressings for pain reduction and shaping of the *** on the situation,a prosthesis may be worn in the early stage of recovery or an immediate postoperative prosthesis may be applied to promote stump ***,to maintain the range of motion of the stump and to prevent deformation,the remaining portion of the limb should be positioned to prevent *** exercises should also be performed to improve muscle strength to ensure that the amputee is able to perform activities of daily living,***,clean wound or edema management of the stump is necessary to prevent problems associated with wearing the *** review is expected to contribute to the establishment of basic protocols that will be useful for stump management from the time of completion of amputation surgery to the fitting of a prosthesis to optimize patient recovery.

Improved corrosion resistance of Mg alloy AZ31B induced by selective evaporation of Mg using large pulsed electron beam irradiation

Large pulsed electron beam(LPEB) irradiation was employed as a surface treatment of magnesium(Mg)alloy AZ31B to enhance its corrosion and wear resistance. Selective evaporation of Mg induced by LPEB irradiation at an energy density of 5J/cm^2 for 40 cycles has led to the formation of an Al-enriched resolidified layer with nano-grained structure consisting of Mg3.1 Al0.9 metastable phase. The formation of such a re-solidified layer after LPEB irradiation has enabled a decrease in corrosion rate of Mg alloy AZ31B in 3.5% NaCl solution. Different equivalent electrical circuit models were proposed to account for the corrosion behavior of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B and those subjected to LPEB irradiation. A decrease in wear depth when compared to that of the untreated alloy suggests an increase in wear resistance of LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B. Adhesive wear is the predominant mechanism of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B while abrasive wear mechanism dominates for LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B.
