Ballistic design and testing of a composite armour reinforced by CNTs suitable for armoured vehicles

This paper is investigating the use of composite armour reinforced by nanomaterials, for the protection of light armoured(LAV) and medium armoured military vehicles(MAV), and the interaction between the composite materials and high-performance ballistic projectiles. Four armour materials, consisted of front hybrid fibre reinforced polymer cover layer, ceramic strike-face, fibre reinforced polymer intermediate layer and the metal matrix composite reinforced backplate, were manufactured and assembled by adhesive technology. The proposed laminated protection system is suitable for armoured ground vehicles;however, it could be used as armour on ground, air and naval platforms. The design of the protection system, including material selection and thickness, was elaborated depending on the performance requirements of Level 4 + STANAG 4569 military standard(projectile 14.5 mm × 114 mm API B32) and especially on a design philosophy which is analysed with the specifications. The backplate of this new composite is a hybrid material of Metal Matrix Composite(MMC) reinforced with carbon nanotubes(CNTs), manufactured with the use of powder metallurgy technique. The composite backplate material was morphologically, mechanically and chemically analysed. Results show that all plates are presenting high mechanical properties and ballistic characteristics, compared to commonly used armour plates. Real military ballistic tests according to AEP-STANAG 4569 were carried out for the total composite armour systems. After the ballistic tests, AA2024-CNT3 showed the best protection results, compared with the other plates(AA2024-CNT1 and AA2024-CNT2), with the projectile being unable to fully penetrate the composite plate.

Background Soil microbial communities affect above-ground plant diversity and community composition by influencing plant growth *** studies have tested the effect of soil bacterial microbiome on growth performance of native and invasive plants,but the influence of specific bacterial isolates has not been ***,we investigated the effects of soil bacterial exclusion by soil sterilization and by inoculation of Streptomyces rhizobacterial isolates on the growth performance of native and invasive Prosopis *** Plant growth performance of invasive *** was significantly reduced when grown in sterilized soils,whereas native *** showed enhanced growth performance in the sterilized *** grown in the soil inoculated with the specific Streptomyces isolate from ***(PJ1),the growth performance of invasive *** was significantly enhanced while that of native *** seedlings was significantly ***,inoculation of *** and *** seedlings with Streptomyces isolate from the rhizosphere of native ***(PC1)had no significant effect on the growth performances either of *** or *** Our study reveals that invasive *** experiences positive feedback from the non-native soil bacterial community,while the native *** experiences negative feedback from its soil bacterial *** results provide fresh experimental evidence for the enemy release hypothesis,and further our understanding of the contrasting growth-promoting effects of differentially recruited microbial species belonging to the same genus(Streptomyces)in the rhizospheres of alien invasive and native plants.

Let U be an open subset of the Riemann sphere C. We give sufficient conditions for which a finite type map f : U →C with at most three singular values has a Siegel disk compactly contained in U and whose boundary is a quasicircle containing a unique critical point. The main tool is quasiconformal surgery à la Douady-Ghys-herman-(S′)wia tek. We also give sufficient conditions for which, instead, ? has not compact closure in U. The main tool is the Schwarzian derivative and area inequalities à la Graczyk-(S′)wia tek.

On a Novel Eccentricity-based Invariant of a Graph

In this paper, for the purpose of measuring the non-self-centrality extent of non-self- centered graphs, a novel eccerttricity-based invariant, named as non-self-centrality number （NSC num- ber for short）, of a graph G is defined as follows： N（G） =∑vi,vj∈V（G）｜ei-ej｜ where the summation goes over all the unordered pairs of vertices in G and ei is the eccentricity of vertex vi in G, whereas the invariant will be called third Zagreb eccentricity index if the summation only goes over the adja- cent vertex pairs of graph G. In this paper, we determine the lower and upper bounds on N（G） and characterize the corresponding graphs at which the lower and upper bounds are attained. Finally we propose some attractive research topics for this new invariant of graphs.

Promotion effect of Re additive on the bifunctional Ni catalysts for methanation coupling with water gas shift of biogas: Insights from activation energy

The cheap manganese sand was first modified by h2O2 and was further creatively utilized as Ni-based catalyst *** order to enhance the catalytic performance,Re was added into the Ni-based catalyst and the promotion effect of Re on the methanation coupling with water gas shift of biogas was investigated from the perspective of activation *** was found that ch4 and CO2 formation rates,which separately represented the reaction rate of methanation and water gas shift,were both enhanced after Re addition compared to non-added *** kinetics models including empirical model and K-model were employed and from the results of calculation,it showed that Re selectively decreased the activation energy of methanation reaction and had little impact on the activation energy of water gas *** increased CO2 formation rate was owing to the assistance of accelerated h2O production from methanation rather than the activation energy change in water gas shift.

Crustal deformation measurements by global positioning system(GPS)along NSL,western India

The Narmada Son Lineament(NSL)is a major palaeo-rift system and seismically active intra-plate *** this paper,we processed and analyzed the GPS data from 2009 to 2016 to study the geodynamic characteristics of *** velocities derived from GPS were used to calculate the associated deformation and crustal strain,while the slip deficit was estimated using the horizontal motion of GPS *** investigation reveals that the maximum deformation of western NSL is 1.6 mm per year,and the upper bound of the seismic moment(M;)is 2.0×10;dyn/cm,corresponding to an earthquake of about 6.0 *** study highlights the significance of Aravalli and Satpura mobile *** estimated strain of 0.03μstrain/yr is low but comparable to the stable continental region,and a close association of factors(the fragility,crustal conductors,and compressive tectonics)is considered responsible for seismogenic activities in western NSL.

In recent decades, the world economy has been stron gl y driven by worldwide foreign direct investment (FDI) of transnational corporati ons (TNCs). And business globalisation is leading to widespread re-structuring of international manufacturing systems in TNCs. however, still very little sys tematic research in manufacturing engineering or production/operations managemen t (P/O M) has focused on these new types of globalised manufacturing systems, an d little communication is organised between different academic disciplines such as manufacturing, management/ business studies, economics, geography, internatio nal development studies and so on. Many critical issues are still poorly unders tood and are not covered by current research agendas, for example: · properties of international manufacturing network systems in terms of structu ral architecture, dynamic mechanisms, strategic capabilities, strategy processes , new technology, and alliance relationships · knowledge management and organisational learning mechanisms in international manufacturing context, especially in globally coordinated networks at both intra - and inter- organisational levels · global economic trends, regional collaboration, national culture/identity, an d their impacts on industrial sector development, and company’s manufacturin g system design/re-structuring In industry, lack of global vision and appropriate strategies during internation alisation have become major barrier to the effective management of international operations. In academia, limited multi-discipline exchanges have inhibited de velopments not only in each area but also knowledge contribution to industry whi ch could arise from discipline integration. The Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)is part of the scientific payload of the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European Space Agency(ESA)and the chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the SMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the Solar Wind charge eXchange(SWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the SXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of SMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(uk)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the uk,Europe,china and the United States.

Expression of TRAIL and TRAIL receptors in normal and malignant tissues

TRAIL, tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, is a member of the TNF family of *** cells were initially found to have increased sensitivity to TRAIL compared with normal cells, raising hopes thatTRAIL would prove useful as an anti-tumor agent. The production of reliable monoclonal antibodies against TRAIL andits receptors that can stain fixed specimens will allow a thorough analysis of their expression on normal and malignanttissues. here we report the generation of monoclonal antibodies against TRAIL and its four membrane-bound receptors(TR1–4), which have been used to stain a range of normal and malignant cells, as routinely fixed specimens. Low levelsof TRAIL expression were found to be limited mostly to smooth muscle in lung and spleen as well as glial cells in thecerebellum and follicular cells in the thyroid. Expression of the TRAIL decoy receptors (TR3 and 4) was not aswidespread as indicated by Northern blotting, suggesting that they may be less important for the control of TRAILcytotoxicity than previously thought. TR1 and TR2 expression increases significantly in a number of malignant tissues,but in some common malignancies their expression was low, or patchy, which may limit the therapeutic role of *** together, we have a panel of monoclonal antibodies that will allow a better assessment of the normal role ofTRAIL and allow assessment of biopsy material, possibly allowing the identification of tumors that may be amenable toTRAIL therapy.
