Investigation on the influence of vortex generator on particle resuspension

The vortex generator(VG)and its well-known effect in flow optimization are widely studied and employed across different engineering sectors.However,while the same working principles of VG may be well suited for the applications on surface-cleaning technologies,such promising potential is hardly,if any,explored in the published literature.Therefore,in the present study,the influence on flow-induced particle resuspension brought by a rectangular vG in a channel flow is investigated with the help of highfidelity computational fluid dynamics simulations.Substantial increases of particle removal forces and resuspension rates are discovered in long,strip-like regions with reduced boundary-layer thickness resulted from the vG-induced vortices,and the enhancement effect is especially significant for configurations with the VG installed at a greater angle of attack.It is also shown that while the resuspension enhancements on the lower and the upper surfaces of the channel exhibit distinct statistical characteristics,having a VG in the channel improves the overall particle-removing capability of the channel flow by introducing higher surface-averaged removal forces and particle resuspension rates.Last but not least,the increase of resuspension rate is especially significant for the smaller,micron-scale particles which are otherwise hardly disturbed by a VG-less channel flow,and such resuspension-enhancement effectgenerally subsides with increasing particle size.

With the continuous development of science and technology,electronic devices have begun to enter all aspects of human life,becoming increasingly closely related to human life.Users have higher quality requirements for electronic devices.Electronic device testing has gradually become an irreplaceable engineering process in modern manufacturing enterprises to guarantee the quality of products while preventing inferior products from entering the market.Considering the large output of electronic devices,improving the testing efficiency while reducing the testing cost has become an urgent problem to be solved.This study investigates the electronic device testing machine allocation problem(EDTMAP),aiming to improve the production of electronic devices and reduce the scheduling distance among testing machines through reasonable machine allocation.First,a mathematical model was formulated for the EDTMAP to maximize both production and the scheduling distance among testing machines.Second,we developed a discrete multi-objective artificial bee colony(DMOABC)algorithm to solve EDTMAP.A crossover operator and local search operator were designed to improve the exploration and exploitation of the algorithm,respectively.Numerical experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared with the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA-II)and strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm 2(SPEA2).Finally,the mathematical model and DMOABC algorithm were applied to a real-world factory that tests radio-frequency modules.The results verify that our method can significantly improve production and reduce the scheduling distance among testing machines.

Fluorescence Anisotropy(FA)is an effective biochemical detection method based on molecular rotations.Graphene oxide(GO)has been extensively used as an FA amplifier.However,the enhancement of FA by GO alone is limited and the strong scattering of GO will easily make the measurement of FA inaccurate.In order to address these problems,an octopus-like DNA nanostructure(ODN)was designed and coupled with GO to enhance the FA together in this work.By mimicking the multi-clawed structure of the octopus,the ODN can be adsorbed on GO tightly,which not only could improve the sensitivity because of the double FA enhancement abilities of GO and ODN,but also could improve the specificity due to the decrease of the nonspecific interaction in complex samples.Furthermore,ODN could maintain a certain distance between the fluorophore and GO to reduce the fluorescence quenching efficiency of GO,which could improve the accuracy.This method has been applied for the detection of hepatitis B virus DNA(HBV-DNA)in a range of 1-50 nmol/L and the limit of detection(LOD)was 330 pmol/L.In addition,the proposed method has been successfully utilized to detect HBV-DNA in human serum,indicating that this method has a great practical application prospect.

Alkane-based biodiesel is considered the next generation of biodiesel owing to its potential environmental benefits and the fact that it exhibits much higher specific caloric values than traditional biodiesel.However,the formidable obstacle impeding the commercialization of this cutting-edge fuel alternative lies in the cost associated with its production.In this study,an engineered strain Escherichia coli(E.coli)showcasing harmonized coexpression of a lipase(from Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase,TLL)and a fatty acid photodecarboxylase(from Chlorella variabilis,CvFAP)was first constructed to transform triglycerides into alkanes.The potential of E.coli BL21(DE3)/pRSFDuet-1-TLL-CvFAP for alkane synthesis was evaluated with tripalmitin as a model substrate under various process conditions.Following a comprehensive examination of the reaction parameters,the scope of the biotransformation was expanded to‘real’substrates(vegetable oils).The results showed that bioderived oils can be transformed into alkanes with high yields(0.80-10.20 mmol·L^(-1))under mild conditions(35℃,pH 8.0,and 36 h)and blue light illumination.The selected processes were performed on an increased lab scale(up to 100 ml)with up to 24.77 mmol·L^(-1) tripalmitin,leading to a yield of 18.89 mmol·L^(-1) pentadecane.With the employment of a method for efficiently producing alkanes under mild conditions and a simple procedure to isolate alkanes from the reaction system,the utilization of sustainable biomass as a fundamental feedstock emerges as the primary solution to lower the cost of alkane-based biodiesel.Thus,this study proposes a readily implementable and highly effective approach for alkane-based biodiesel production.

This paper aims to propose a framework for manifold regularization(MR) based distributed semi-supervised learning(DSSL) using single layer feed-forward neural network(SLFNN). The proposed framework, denoted as DSSL-SLFNN is based on the SLFNN, MR framework, and distributed optimization strategy. Then, a series of algorithms are derived to solve DSSL problems. In DSSL problems, data consisting of labeled and unlabeled samples are distributed over a communication network, where each node has only access to its own data and can only communicate with its neighbors. In some scenarios, DSSL problems cannot be solved by centralized algorithms. According to the DSSL-SLFNN framework, each node over the communication network exchanges the initial parameters of the SLFNN with the same basis functions for semi-supervised learning(SSL). All nodes calculate the global optimal coefficients of the SLFNN by using distributed datasets and local updates. During the learning process, each node only exchanges local coefficients with its neighbors rather than raw data. It means that DSSL-SLFNN based algorithms work in a fully distributed fashion and are privacy preserving methods. Finally, several simulations are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed framework and the derived algorithms.

Active exploratory behaviors have often been associated with theta oscillations in rodents,while theta oscillations during active exploration in non-human primates are still not well understood.We recorded neural activities in the frontal eye field(FEF)and V4 simultaneously when monkeys performed a free-gaze visual search task.Saccades were strongly phase-locked to theta oscillations of V4 and FEF local field potentials,and the phase-locking was dependent on saccade direction.The spiking probability of V4 and FEF units was significantly modulated by the theta phase in addition to the time-locked modulation associated with the evoked response.V4 and FEF units showed significantly stronger responses following saccades initiated at their preferred phases.Granger causality and ridge regression analysis showed modulatory effects of theta oscillations on saccade timing.Together,our study suggests phase-locking of saccades to the theta modulation of neural activity in visual and oculomotor cortical areas,in addition to the theta phase locking caused by saccade-triggered responses.

The arylethylamine framework is a prevalent motif in a great range of biologically important organic compounds.One intractable task for frontline drug discovery is to find structurally new medicine candidates instead of opioid,based on the construction of a rich chemical space of arylethylamine motif In this report,a practical protocol for the synthesis of arylethylamine functionality common in pharmaceutical chemicals has been developed.It proceeds by Mn-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydroarylation of electron-rich enamides under mild conditions without the use of ligands.In spite of mismatched electronic effects during the manganese-mediated migratory insertion process,both terminal and internal enamides can be regioselectively hydroarylated with various aryl boronic acids in 15 min.Also,the successful hydroalkenylation of enamides with alkenyl boronic acids in air atmosphere affords an elegant route to synthetically useful β-alkenylated amines in satisfactory yields.The synthetic robustness and practicality of the reaction reveal its simple operation,short reaction time,viability on a gram-scale and its value in late-stage modification of complex molecules.

This study compares two rainstorms that swept through Henan Province of China in July 2021 and August 1975.The heavy rainfall and related synoptic systems and processes are diagnosed based on hourly ERA5 reanalysis data and precipitation observations from the China Meteorological Administration.It is estimated that most of the daily rainfall in Henan was caused by synoptic-scale precipitation,with the sub-synoptic convective rainfall intermittently dominating some of the hourly total rainfall.The rainband moved at about 2 m s^(-1) during the July 2021 rainstorm,whereas it was almost stationary during the August 1975 rainstorm when the heavy rainfall was concentrated in southern Henan.A double-typhoon circulation pattern with a subtropical high over the Bohai and Yellow Seas was observed during both rainstorms.The heavy rainfall during the July 2021 event was controlled remotely by Typhoons Cempaka and In-Fa,which provided a path for the transport of moisture via the southerly jet associated with Typhoon Cempaka and the easterly(or southeasterly)jet associated with Typhoon In-Fa.The rainstorm in August1975 was caused more directly by Typhoon Nina,which made landfall in Fujian Province and moved toward Henan Province.The rainfall around the inverted trough of the motionless Typhoon Nina produced a cumulative effect.The two rainstorms also differed in their circulation patterns in the upper troposphere.The intrusion of high potential vorticity air over Central China occurred in the July 2021 extreme rainstorm,whereas the South Asian high was enhanced and biased further north during the August 1975 rainstorm.Further analysis showed that the northward and westward transport of moisture took place during the July 2021 rainstorm,whereas the westward transport of moisture from the east of Henan dominated near the inverted trough of Typhoon Nina during the August 1975 rainstorm.

To achieve advanced nitrogen removal from actual municipal sewage,a novel multistage anoxic/aerobic process with sludge regeneration zone(R-MAO)was developed.The reactor was used to treat actual domestic sewage and the nitrogen removal capacity of the sludge regeneration zone(R zone)was investigated during the long-term operation.The best performance was obtained at the R zone’s Oxidation-Reduction Potential(ORP)of-50±30 mV and hydraulic residence times(HRT)of 1.2 hr.The average effluent COD,TN,NH_(4)^(+)-N and NO_(3)^(−)-N of the R-MAO process were 18.0±2.3,7.5±0.6,1.0±0.5 and 4.6±0.4 mg/L,respectively,with the corresponding removal efficiency of COD,TN and NH_(4)^(+)-N were 92.9%±1.0%,84.1%±1.5% and 97.5%±1.1%.Compared to the sole MAO system,the TN removal efficiency of the R-MAO increased by 10.1%.Besides,under the optimal conditions,the contribution of the R zone in the R-MAO that removal COD,TN,NH_(4)^(+)-N and NO_(3)^(−)-N were 0.36,0.15,0.032 and 0.82 g/day.High-throughput sequencing results showed that uncultured_bacterium_f_Burkholderiaceae(5.20%),OLB8(1.04%)and Ottowia(1.03%)played an important role in denitrification in the R zone.This study provided effective guidance for the design and operation of the R-MAO process in domestic sewage treatment.
