Herein,we propose an experimentally feasible scheme to show the quantum phase transition of the Jaynes-Cummings(JC)model by modulating the transition frequency of a two-level system in a quantum Rabi model with strong coupling.By tuning the modulation frequency and amplitude,the ratio of the effective coupling strength of the rotating terms to the effective cavity(atomic transition)frequency can enter the deep-strong coupling regime,while the counter-rotating terms can be neglected.Thus,a deep-strong JC model is obtained.The ratio of the coupling strength to resonance frequencies in the deep-strong JC model is two orders of magnitude larger than the corresponding ratio in the original quantum Rabi model.Our scheme can be employed in atom-cavity resonance and off-resonance cases,and it is valid over a broad range.The nonzero average cavity photons of the ground state indicate the emergence of a quantum phase transition.Further,we demonstrate the dependence of the phase diagram on the atom-cavity detuning and modulation parameters.All the parameters used in our scheme are within the reach of current experimental technology.Our scheme provides a new mechanism for investigating the critical phenomena of finite-sized systems without requiring classical field limits,thereby opening a door for studying fundamental quantum phenomena occurring in the ultrastrong and even deep-strong coupling regimes.

The organized three-dimensional chromosome architecture in the cell nucleus provides scaffolding for precise regulation of gene expression.When the cell changes its identity in the cell-fate decision-making process,extensive rearrangements of chromo-some structures occur accompanied by large-scale adaptations of gene expression,underscoring the importance of chromosome dynamics in shaping genome function.Over the last two decades,rapid development of experimental methods has provided unprecedented data to characterize the hierarchical structures and dynamic properties of chromosomes.In parallel,these enormous data offer valuable opportunities for developing quantitative computational models.Here,we review a variety of large-scale polymer models developed to investigate the structures and dynamics of chromosomes.Different from the underlying modeling strategies,these approaches can be classified into data-driven(‘top-down’)and physics-based(‘bottom-up’)categories.We discuss their contributions to offering valuable insights into the relationships among the structures,dynamics,and functions of chromosomes and propose the perspective of developing data integration approaches from different experimental technologies and multidisciplinary theoretical/simulation methods combined with different modeling strategies.

Currently,the presence of genetically modified(GM)organisms in agro-food markets is strictly regulated by enacted legislation worldwide.It is essential to ensure the traceability of these transgenic products for food safety,consumer choice,environmental monitoring,market integrity,and scientific research.However,detecting the existence of GM organisms involves a combination of complex,time-consuming,and labor-intensive techniques requiring high-level professional skills.In this paper,a concise and rapid pipeline method to identify transgenic rice seeds was proposed on the basis of spectral imaging technologies and the deep learning approach.The composition of metabolome across 3 rice seed lines containing the cry1Ab/cry1Ac gene was compared and studied,substantiating the intrinsic variability induced by these GM traits.Results showed that near-infrared and terahertz spectra from different genotypes could reveal the regularity of GM metabolic variation.The established cascade deep learning model divided GM discrimination into 2 phases including variety classification and GM status identification.It could be found that terahertz absorption spectra contained more valuable features and achieved the highest accuracy of 97.04%for variety classification and 99.71%for GM status identification.Moreover,a modified guided backpropagation algorithm was proposed to select the task-specific characteristic wavelengths for further reducing the redundancy of the original spectra.The experimental validation of the cascade discriminant method in conjunction with spectroscopy confirmed its viability,simplicity,and effectiveness as a valuable tool for the detection of GM rice seeds.This approach also demonstrated its great potential in distilling crucial features for expedited transgenic risk assessment.

We study electromechanical responses of a flexoelectric semiconductor plate in bending under mechanical loads.A two-dimensional theory for classical bending without shear deformation is derived from the three-dimensional macroscopic theory of flexoelectric semiconductors.A simple solution is obtained for pure bending.A combination of physical and geometric parameters is introduced as a measure of the strength of the coupling between the mechanical load and the redistribution of charge carriers.A trigonometric series solution is obtained for a simply supported rectangular plate under a local normal mechanical load,which shows concentration of mobile charges and the formation of electric potential barriers near the loading area.The results are fundamental to the mechanical manipulation of charge carriers in these plates.We also analyze the buckling of a simply supported rectangular plate under in-plane compressive forces.A series of buckling loads and modes are obtained.Numerical results show that flexoelectric coupling exhibits a stiffening effect and increases the buckling load,while semiconduction weakens the flexoelectric stiffening.The distributions of mobile charges in the first few buckling modes are presented.

Simultaneous purification of minor components in natural products using twin-column recycling chromatography with a step solvent gradient

The isolation of minor components from complex natural product matrices presents a significant challenge in the field of purification science due to their low concentrations and the presence of structurally similar compounds. This study introduces an optimized twin-column recycling chromatography method for the efficient and simultaneous purification of these elusive constituents. By introducing water at a small flowing rate between the twin columns, a step solvent gradient is created, by which the leading edge of concentration band would migrate at a slower rate than the trailing edge as it flowing from the upstream to downstream column. Hence, the band broadening is counterbalanced, resulting in an enrichment effect for those minor components in separation process. Herein, two target substances, which showed similar peak position in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and did not exceed 1.8% in crude paclitaxel were selected as target compounds for separation. By using the twin-column recycling chromatography with a step solvent gradient, a successful purification was achieved in getting the two with the purity almost 100%. We suggest this method is suitable for the separation of most components in natural produces, which shows higher precision and recovery rate compared with the common lab-operated separation ways for natural products (thin-layer chromatography and prep-HPLC). © 2024 The Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, and Chemical Industry Press Co., Ltd

This study investigated the application of electrical resistance tomography (ERT) in characterizing the slurry spatial distribution in cemented granular materials (CGMs). For CGM formed by self-flow grouting, the voids in the accumulation are only partially filled and the bond strength is often limited, which results in difficulty in obtaining in situ samples for quality evaluation. Therefore, it is usually infeasible to evaluate the grouting effect or monitor the slurry spatial distribution by a mechanical method. In this research, the process of grouting cement paste into high alumina ceramic beads (HACB) accumulation is reliably monitored with ERT. It shows that ERT results can be used to calculate the cement paste volume in the HACB accumulation, based on calibrating the saturation exponent n in Archie's law. The results support the feasibility of ERT as an imaging tool in CGM characterization and may provide guidance for engineering applications in the future.

Objective:To investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of action of Curcuma wenyujin Y.H.Chen et C.Ling n-Butyl alcohol extract(CWNAE)on repression of human gastric cancer(GC)AGS cell invasion induced by co-culturing with Helicobacter pylori(HP).Methods:AGS cells were cultured with HP of positive or negative cytotoxin-associated gene A(Cag A)and vacuolating cytotoxin gene A(Vac A)expression(Cag A+/-or Vac A+/-)and divided into 5 group.Group A was cultured without HP as a control,Group B with HPCagA+VacA+,Group C with HPCagA-VacA-,Group D with HPCagA+VacA+and CWNAE,and Group E with HPCag A-Vac Aand CWNAE.Methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)and tumor invasion assays,examinations of morphology and ultramicroscopic structures,quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blots were performed to measure the effects and uncover the mechanisms behind these effects of HPCagA+VacA+and CWNAE on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)of AGS cells.Results:The 10%inhibitory concentration of CWNAE against AGS cells after a 48 h incubation was 19.73±1.30μg/m L.More AGS cells were elongated after co-culturing with HPCagA+VacA+than after culturing with HPCagA-VacA-.In tumor invasion assays,HPCagA+VacA+significantly enhanced the invasiveness of AGS cells compared to the other experimental groups(all P value<0.05),and this effect was inhibited by CWNAE.Treatment with CWNAE normalized tight junctions and reduced the number of pseudopodia of AGS cells co-cultured with HPCagA+VacA+.HPCagA+VacA+up-regulated zincfinger ebox binding homeobox 1(ZEB1)in AGS cells after co-culturing for 24 h.Expression of caudal type homeobox transcription factor(CDX-2)and claudin-2 was significantly increased by HPCagA+VacA+(P<0.05),but not by HPCagA-VacA-.Conclusions:HPCagA+VacA+promoted the invasiveness of AGS cells through up-regulation of ZEB1 transcription and claudin-2 and CDX-2 expression.CWNAE inhibited these effects of HPCagA+VacA+on AGS cells by down-regulating ZEB1 transcription,and CDX-2 and claudin-2 express
