Dune barrier systems represent highly so.ght-after co.stal landscapes fo. to.rism and urban develo.ment aro.nd the wo.ld. Ho.ever, a century ago. they were co.sidered hazardo.s enviro.ments due to.their great dynamic nature. As a result, stabilizatio. practices were co.sidered necessary. The systematic intro.uctio. o. fast-gro.ing exo.ic trees helped stabilize the sand, making it easier fo. to.rism urbanizatio. to.take place, but also.leading to.ero.io. pro.esses. This paper aims to.assess lo.g-term changes in vegetatio. co.er o.er a large temperate barrier in Argentina. This co.plex regio. includes urban reso.ts, affo.estatio. zo.es, and pro.ected areas. A GIS-based geo.patial analysis was co.ducted using a large satellite database(> 350 images), and the future evo.utio. o. the vegetatio. was mo.eled. The results revealed two.primary spatio.empo.al patterns asso.iated with a gradual expansio. o. vegetatio. co.er, acco.panied by a co.current reductio. in sandy areas. In 1986, the dune area co.prised 75% mo.e surface than vegetatio., whereas in 2021, it represented 60% less than vegetatio.. Furthermo.e, the 2050 scenario.suggests a po.ential 40% reductio. o. dunes in certain areas. It is necessary to.enhance management actio.s aimed at maintaining dune mo.ility and ensuring lo.al and regio.al sediment balance. Lo.g-term management strategies must fo.us o. resto.ing native plant co.munities and co.tro.ling invasive species, and avo.ding new dune fixatio. initiatives based o. the intro.uctio. o. exo.ic species.

Yet, there is a paucity o. info.matio. o. the distributio., po.ulatio. status and sustainable management o. NTFPs in mo.t o. the tro.ical lo.land rainfo.ests. We, therefo.e, assessed the po.ulatio., distributio. and threats to.sustainable management o. NTFPs within the tro.ical lo.land rainfo.ests o. o.o.and Shasha Fo.est Reserves, so.th western Nigeria. Data were o.tained thro.gh invento.y surveys o. five to. prio.ity species including： bush mango.（Irvingia gabo.ensis （Aubry-Leco.te ex o.Ro.ke） Baill）, African walnut （Tetracarpidium co.o.ho.um （Mull. Arg.） Hutch. ＆ Dalziel syn. Plukenetia co.o.ho.a）, chew-stick （Massularia acuminata （G. Do.） Bullo.k）, fever bark （Annickia chlo.antha Setten ＆ *** syn. Enantia chlo.anta） and bush pepper （Piper guineense Schumach. ＆ Tho.n.）. Purpo.ive and stratified rando. sampling techniques were used fo. the invento.y. Each fo.est reserve was stratified into.three, viz： less disturbed natural fo.est （fo. areas that have been rested fo. at least ten years）, recently disturbed natural fo.est （fo. areas that have suffered o.e fo.m o. human perturbatio. o. the o.her in the last five years）, and plantatio. fo.est （fo. areas carrying fo.est plantatio.）. Data were co.lected fro. eighteen 10 m × 500 m belt transects lo.ated in the abo.e strata. The species were generally fewer in bo.h plantatio. and recently disturbed natural fo.est than the less disturbed natural fo.est, suggesting that fo.est disturbances （habitat mo.ificatio.） fo. o.her uses may have an effect o. the o.currence and densities o. the NTFPs. Exceptio.s to.this trend were fo.nd fo. P. guineense and T. co.o.ho.um, which were fairly co.mo. in bo.h plantatio. and recently disturbed natural fo.est.
