The clinical association of programmed cell death protein 4(PDCD4) with solid tumors and its prognostic significance:a meta-analysis

Background: Programmed cell death protein 4(PDCD4) is a novel tumor suppressor protein involved in pro?grammed cell death. Its association with cancer progression has been observed in multiple tumor models, but evidence supporting its association with solid tumors in humans remains controversial. This study aimed to determine the clinical signiicance and prognostic value of PDCD4 in solid ***: A systematic literature review was performed to retrieve publications with available clinical informa?tion and survival data. The eligibility of the selected articles was based on the criteria of the Dutch Cochrane Centre proposed by the Meta?analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology group. Pooled odds ratios(ORs), hazard ratios(HRs), and 95% conidence intervals(CIs) for survival analysis were calculated. Publication bias was examined by Begg's and Egger's ***: Clinical data of 2227 cancer patients with solid tumors from 23 studies were evaluated. PDCD4 expression was signiicantly associated with the diferentiation status of head and neck cancer(OR 4.25, 95% CI 1.87–9.66) and digestive system cancer(OR 2.87, 95% CI 1.84–4.48). Down?regulation of PDCD4 was signiicantly associated with short overall survival of patients with head and neck(HR: 3.44, 95% CI 2.38–4.98), breast(HR: 1.86, 95% CI 1.36–2.54), digestive system(HR: 2.12, 95% CI 1.75–2.56), and urinary system cancers(HR: 3.16, 95% CI 1.06–9.41).Conclusions: The current evidence suggests that PDCD4 down?regulation is involved in the progression of several types of solid tumor and is a potential marker for solid tumor prognoses. Its clinical usefulness should be conirmed by large?scale prospective studies.

Why the abnormal phenomena of D-band center theory exist?A new BASED theory for surface catalysis and chemistry

Since the D-band center theory was proposed,it has been widely used in the fields of surface chemistry by almost all researchers,due to its easy understanding,convenient operation and relative ***,with the continuous development of material systems and modification strategies,researchers have gradually found that D-band center theory is usually effective for large metal particle systems,but for small metal particle systems or semiconductors,such as single atom systems,the opposite conclusion to the D-band center theory is often *** solve the issue above,here we propose a bonding and anti-bonding orbitals stable electron intensity difference(BASED)theory for surface *** newly-proposed BASED theory can not only successfully explain the abnormal phenomena of D-band center theory,but also exhibits a higher accuracy for prediction of adsorption energy and bond length of intermediates on active ***,a new phenomenon of the spin transition state in the adsorption process is observed based on the BASED theory,where the active center atom usually yields an unstable high spin transition state to enhance its adsorption capability in the adsorption process of intermediates when their distance is about 2.5Å.In short,the BASED theory can be considered as a general principle to understand catalytic mechanism of intermediates on surfaces.

Due to the non-linearity in ozone(O_(3))formation,reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides(NO_(x))may increase O_(3) *** the counteractive O_(3) response to NO_(x) reduction,overall impact of air pollution controls can be ambiguous when the assessments focus on the changes in pollutant *** this study,a risk-based method was used to gauge the net effect of air pollution controls on mortality risk in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei(BTH)region during the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics(WOP).This mega-event presents a unique opportunity to investigate the efficacy of deep cuts in pollutant *** show that O_(3) concentrations greatly increased as nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))concentrations decreased in the *** to the active photochemical formations,O_(3) became the dominant pollutant that affected human health during the *** the substantial O_(3) increases,the health benefits of NO_(2) reductions overwhelmed the adverse health effects of O_(3) increases in most regions of the BTH(at 81 out of 112 stations).After considering the impacts of particulate matter,the integrated health risk of air pollution mixtures declined almost everywhere in the *** results underscore the great necessity of changing the assessment paradigm of pollution control from using concentration-based methods to using risk-based *** with the carbon neutrality policy,stringent control of NO_(x)emission from combustion sources is a promising way to achieve synergistic control solutions for air pollution and climate change.

阿尔茨海默症(AD)是一种非常常见的进行性和破坏性中枢神经系统退行性的疾病，会对老年人的生活质量产生影响以及对老年人的生命安全造成严重危害，给家庭、社会和国家带来了巨大的经济负担。目前治疗AD的药物尚未取得较大突破和创新，面临着突破血脑屏障的挑战，且治疗方法不当可能会导致患者产生不良反应。靶向载药系统作为一种有效的治疗方式，能够显著降低血液中的药物浓度、给药频率和药物毒副作用，同时提高药物在目标部位的浓度和疗效以及药物生物利用度，还能对药物起到缓释效果。此外，靶向载药系统还有望穿透血脑屏障，提高血脑渗透率，实现脑靶向性，精准递送药物，从而为治疗AD提供了一条高效且安全的途径。本工作综述了AD的发病机制、治疗AD的辅助药物治疗的非药物治疗方法以及针对Aβ聚集、乙酰胆碱酶抑制和受体拮抗等主要药物的作用机理和副作用，并对磁性纳米颗粒、脂质体等针对治疗AD的靶向载药系统进行了简单的介绍和梳理以及总结，并指出了现在存在的问题，提出了可能的解决方案，指明未来可能发展的方向。

A metal-free composite photocatalyst of graphene quantum dots deposited on red phosphorus

A simple approach to enhance the photocatalytic activity of red phosphorus（P） was developed.A mechanical ball milling method was applied to reduce the size of red P and to deposit graphene quantum dots onto red P. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, contact angle measurements, zeta-potential measurements, X-ray diffraction and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The product exhibited high visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance in the photodegradation of rhodamine B.

Advances in photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria:Development of photocatalysts and mechanisms

Photocatalysis has attracted worldwide attention due to its potential in solar energy *** a ＂green＂ advanced oxidation technology, it has been extensively used for water disinfection and wastewater treatment. This article provides a review of the recent progress in solar energy-induced photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria, focusing on the development of highly efficient photocatalysts and their underlying mechanisms in bacterial inactivation. The photocatalysts are classified into Ti O2-based and non-Ti O2-based systems, as Ti O2 is the most investigated photocatalyst. The synthesis methods, modification strategies, bacterial disinfection activities and mechanisms of different types of photocatalysts are reviewed in *** is given to the modified Ti O2, including noble metal deposition, non-metal doping,dye sensitization and composite Ti O2, along with typical non-Ti O2-based photocatalysts for bacterial disinfection, including metal oxides, sulfides, bismuth metallates, graphene-based photocatalysts, carbon nitride-based photocatalysts and natural photocatalysts. A simple and versatile methodology by using a partition system combined with scavenging study is introduced to study the photocatalytic disinfection mechanisms in different photocatalytic systems. This review summarizes the current state of the work on photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria, and is expected to offer useful insights for the future development in the field.

Roles of Community Pharmacists in Screening and Disseminating of Information about Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Risks: Implications for Drug Safety Assessment

Background: The increasing use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) both on prescription and over the counter raises a major global health concern because of the risks associated with their use if no proper guidance is given by the health care provider. This study assessed the roles of community pharmacists in screening and disseminating information about the risks associated with NSAID use in Zambia. Methodology: This was a national cross-sectional study in which a structured self-administered questionnaire was administered to 245 registered community pharmacists in Zambia. Stata/BE, version 15.1 (Stata Corporation, College Station, Texas, USA) and multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine factors associated with information dissemination about ADRs of NS-NSAIDs. Results: 231 of the 245 distributed questionnaires were returned giving a response rate of 94.3%. All (100%) participating community pharmacists claimed to have practiced dispensing NSAIDs. However, only 26 (11.0%) and 71 (30.8%) regularly screened for risk factor of selective COX-2 NSAIDS (SC2-NSAIDS) and non-selective NSAIDS (NS-NSAIDs) respectively. Information dissemination on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of SC2-NSAIDS was regularly provided by only 22 (9.5%) of pharmacists while that of NS-NSAIDs was regularly provided by 49 (21.2%). In the multivariate logistic regression model, being the owner of a pharmacy (AOR: 5.4, CI: 1.84 - 16.4) was significantly associated with information dissemination about ADRs of NS-NSAIDs while an hour increase in the working hours per day (AOR: 0.9, CI: 0.64 - 0.95) was associated with less likelihood of information dissemination. Conclusion: Pharmacists working in community pharmacies in Zambia did not regularly screen and disseminate information about the risks associated with NSAID use. Neuropsychological Profile of a Patient with Acquired Brain Damage Following Vascular Lesion of the Left Anterior Cingulate Cortex

Stroke is a physiological alteration associated with changes in blood flow that can result in sudden-onset cognitive impairment. It has a heterogenous clinical presentation with varying degrees of severity correlated with specific central nervous system zones or areas, and its prognosis is uncertain. This case study describes a 62-year-old male patient with acquired brain damage of the anterior cingulate cortex as a result of an ischemic event in the territory of the left anterior cerebral artery. Cognitive function was assessed using the neuropsychological executive function and frontal lobe test battery (BANFE-2) as well as other neuropsychological tests. The results show a profile of higher mental functions characterized by the presence of dysexecutive syndrome with marked behavioral alteration and diencephalic amnesia. .
