Atomic insights of electronic states engineering of GaN nanowires by Cu cation substitution for highly efficient lithium ion battery

Electronic engineering of gallium nitride(Ga N) is critical for enhancement of its electrode *** this work, copper(Cu) cation substituted Ga N(Cu-Ga N) nanowires were fabricated to understand the electronically engineered electrochemical performance for Li ion storage. Cu cation substitution was revealed at atomic level by combination of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), X-ray absorption fine structure(XAFS), density functional theory(DFT) simulation, and so forth. The Cu-Ga N electrode delivered high capacity of 813.2 m A h g^(-1) at 0.1 A g^(-1) after 200 cycles, increased by 66% relative to the unsubstituted Ga N electrode. After 2000 cycles at 10 A g^(-1),the reversible capacity was still maintained at326.7 m A h g^(-1). The DFT calculations revealed that Cu substitution introduced the impurity electronic states and efficient interatomic electron migration, which can enhance the charge transfer efficiency and reduce the Li ion adsorption energy on the Cu-Ga N electrode. The ex-situ SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and SAED analyses demonstrated the reversible intercalation Li ion storage mechanism and good structural stability. The concept of atomic-arrangement-assisted electronic engineering strategy is anticipated to open up opportunities for advanced energy storage applications.

A charge-density-based general cation insertion algorithm for generating new Li-ion cathode materials

Future lithium(Li)energy storage technologies,in particular solid-state configurations with a Li metal anode,opens up the possibility of using cathode materials that do not necessarily contain Li in its as-made *** accelerate the discovery and design of such materials,we develop a general,chemically,and structurally agnostic methodology for identifying the optimal Li sites in any crystalline *** a given crystal structure,we attempt multiple Li insertions at symmetrically in-equivalent positions by analyzing the electronic charge density obtained from first-principles density functional *** this report,we demonstrate the effectiveness of this procedure in successfully identifying the positions of the Li ion in well-known cathode materials using only the empty host(charged)material as ***,applying the algorithm to over 2000 candidate cathode empty host materials we obtain statistics of Li site preferences to guide future developments of novel Li-ion cathode materials,particularly for solid-state applications.

A recent study by Lu et al.1 suggests a novel approach to increasing responsiveness to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy. ICB is a promising form of cancer immunotherapy that aims to boost the anti-tumoral immune response. This response is primarily driven by the presentation of different types of antigens at the cancer cell membrane via the type I major histocompatibility complex (MHC I). Neoantigens are tumor-specific antigens that are small (mostly 9-mers) mutated peptides that generally result from somatic mutations. High tumor mutational burden, which results in the formation of many neoantigens, is currently one of the main biomarkers for ICB response prediction. Because ICB is only effective in a minority of patients, new therapeutic strategies are required to augment this response.

Striatins and STRIPAK complex partners in clinical outcomes of patients with breast cancer and responses to drug treatment

Objective: Striatins(STRNs) family, which contains three multi-domain scaffolding proteins, are cornerstones of the striatins interacting phosphatase and kinase(STRIPAK) complex. Although the role of the STRIPAK complex in cancer has become recognized in recent years, its clinical significance in breast cancer has not been fully ***: Using a freshly frozen breast cancer tissue cohort containing both cancerous and adjacent normal mammary tissues, we quantitatively evaluated the transcript-level expression of all members within the STRIPAK complex along with some key interacting and regulatory proteins of STRNs. The expression profile of each molecule and the integrated pattern of the complex members were assessed against the clinical-pathological factors of the patients. The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) dataset was used to evaluate the breast cancer patients’ response to chemotherapies. Four human breast cancer cell lines, MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-361, MCF-7, and SKBR-3, were subsequently adopted for in vitro ***: Here we found that high-level expressions of STRIP2, calmodulin, CCM3, MINK1 and SLMAP were respectively associated with shorter overall survival(OS) of patients. Although the similar pattern observed for STRN3, STRN4 and a contrary pattern observed for PPP2CA, PPP2CB and PPPR1A were not significant, the integrated expression profile of STRNs group and PPP2 group members constitutes a highly significant prognostic indicator for OS [Pso breast cancer subtype ***: Our results suggest a possible role of the STRIPAK complex

随着新能源汽车的迅速发展,锂离子电池(LiBs)需求不断增加,大量废旧LiBs对环境造成污染,同时面临着锂资源供给不足的风险,回收废LiBs中稀有金属锂成为目前研究的热点。有效的电池回收不仅可以缓解资源短缺、实现资源利用,更重要的是可以减少环境污染,推动行业可持续发展。为实现废旧LiBs中锂金属的高效回收,通过优先提取及分步分离的方式回收锂工艺受到研究者的广泛关注。本文对废旧LiBs回收现状及方法进行了阐述,讨论了火法冶金、湿法冶金、生物冶金及电化学法在选择性回收锂工艺上的最新研究进展,详细分析了电极-电场驱动与膜-电渗析技术在选择性回收锂领域的技术优势,同时归纳了各回收工艺的优缺点,并结合经济效益和环境影响对锂回收所面临的问题进行了总结分析。最后,对LiBs回收利用面临的挑战和局限性进行总结,并对未来LiBs回收的发展趋势进行了展望,为研发更加节能环保高效的回收工艺提供参考。

Bio-Efficacy of Plant-Derived Pesticides against Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and Their Interactive Effects on Maize Agronomic Performance under Field Conditions

Maize is widely cultivated in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and provides farmers with nutrition and income. However, the fall armyworm (FAW) (Spodoptera frugiperda) (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) invasion is a threat to its production and supply. Hence, this field experiment was conducted to assess the bio-efficacy of plant-derived pesticides (PDPs) against FAW and their interactive effects on maize agronomic performance under field conditions. The treatments studied were turmeric rhizome extract (TRE), neem leaf ash solution (NLAS), neem bark extract (NBE), and untreated plots (control) and were replicated 5 times using the randomized complete block design. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and means were separated by Fisher’s protected least significant difference test. The result showed that the application of PDPs significantly reduced FAW infestation during the period of peak infestation. At 33 DAS, NBE significantly had the lowest number of FAW larvae (0.6) [F (4, 15) = 5.11, p = 0.02] and FAW attack intensity (29.8%) [F (4, 15) = 8.69, p F (4, 15) = 3.58, p = 0.04] and had the highest number of harvested ears (5.0) [F (4, 15) = 3.72, p = 0.04] and fresh ear weights (447 g) [F (4, 15) = 4.65, p = 0.02] compared to NLAS. The TRE and NLAS had performed poorly relative to the control. Hence, NBE can be used to control FAW infestation at a period of high attack intensity (33 DAS). Moreover, this study will provide basic information for future studies on biopesticidal plant extracts as a control of FAW infestation under field conditions in PNG.

Spinal manipulation therapy: Is it all about the brain? A current review of the neurophysiological effects of manipulation

Spinal manipulation has been an effective intervention for the management of various musculoskeletal disorders. However,the mechanisms underlying the pain modulatory effects of spinal manipulation remain elusive. Although both biomechanical and neurophysiological phenomena have been thought to play a role in the observed clinical effects of spinal manipulation, a growing number of recent studies have indicated peripheral, spinal and supraspinal mechanisms of manipulation and suggested that the improved clinical outcomes are largely of neurophysiological origin. In this article, we reviewed the relevance of various neurophysiological theories with respect to the findings of mechanistic studies that demonstrated neural responses following spinal manipulation. This article also discussed whether these neural responses are associated with the possible neurophysiological mechanisms of spinal manipulation. The body of literature reviewed herein suggested some clear neurophysiological changes following spinal manipulation, which include neural plastic changes, alteration in motor neuron excitability,increase in cortical drive and many more. However, the clinical relevance of these changes in relation to the mechanisms that underlie the effectiveness of spinal manipulation is still unclear. In addition,there were some major methodological flaws in many of the reviewed studies. Future mechanistic studies should have an appropriate study design and methodology and should plan for a long-term follow-up in order to determine the clinical significance of the neural responses evoked following spinal manipulation.
