Professor Bayarri and coauthors’ paper (hereafter,PBIC) offers a stimulating and welcomed addition tothe already extensive and yet still rapid expanding literature on model selection and related topics. In a 2013review on model selection in linear mixed models byMüller, Scealy, and Welsh (2013), the authors classified main approaches in mixed model selection intothree categories, the information criteria, the shrinkagemethods and the fence methods. The current paper isnot specifically regarding mixed model selection problems;however, as one shall see, there is a connection invarious ways.

Transcriptional regulation,determined by the chromatin structure and regulatory elements interacting at pro-moter regions,is a key step in plant responses to environmental cues.Nitrate(NO3-)is a nutrient signal that regulates the expression of hundreds of genes in Arabidopsis thaliana.Here,we integrate mRNA sequencing,genome-wide RNA polymeraseⅡ(RNPⅡ),chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing,and DNase Sequencing datasets to establish the relationship between RNPⅡoccupancy and chromatin accessibility in response to NO3-treatments in Arabidopsis roots.Genomic footprinting allowed us to identify in vivo regula-tory elements controlling gene expression in response to NO3-treatments.NO3--modulated transcription factor(TF)footprints are important for a rapid increase in RNPⅡoccupancy and transcript accumulation over time.We mapped key TF regulatory interactions and functionally validated the role of NAP,an NAC-domain containing TF,as a new regulatory factor in NO3-transport.Taken together,our study provides a comprehensive view of transcriptional networks in response to a nutrient signal in Arabidopsis roots.

某石化公司的60×10^(4 )t/a乙烯装置于2012年建成投产,生产乙烯、丙烯等产品。裂解气压缩机作为石油化工企业的核心设备,机组的平稳运行对整个乙烯装置的稳定生产及企业的经济效益均产生至关重要的影响。在实际生产过程中就存在由于压缩机振动异常,振值快速上涨导致机组联锁停车的情况。然而压缩机内部结构复杂,各项操作参数众多,准确分析机组振动异常的原因存在诸多困难。本文针对裂解气压缩机振值随运行时间增加而逐渐上涨的情况,通过对相关工艺参数进行收集、比对,结合生产实际对参数变化的原因进行合理分析,查找影响裂解气压缩机振值的相关因素。

This paper gives a definition of the Industrial Internet and expounds on the academic connotation of the future Industrial Internet.From this foundation,we outline the development and current status of the Industrial Internet in China and globally.Moreover,we detail the avant-garde paradigms encompassed within the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC)’s“Future Industrial Internet Fundamental Theory and Key Technologies”research plan and its corresponding management strategies.This research initiative endeavors to enhance interdisciplinary collaborations,aiming for a synergistic alignment of industry,academia,research,and practical implementations.The primary focus of the research plan is on the pivotal scientific challenges inherent to the future industrial internet.It is poised to traverse the“first mile”,encompassing foundational research and pioneering innovations specific to the industrial internet,and seamlessly bridges to the“last mile”,ensuring the effective commercialization of scientific and technological breakthroughs into tangible industrial market applications.The anticipated contributions from this initiative are projected to solidify both the theoretical and practical scaffolding essential for the cultivation of a globally competitive industrial internet infrastructure in China.

Cultivated potato is a clonally propagated autotetraploid species with a highly heterogeneous genome.Phased assemblies of six cultivars including two chromosome-scale phased genome assemblies revealed extensive allelic diversity,including altered coding and transcript sequences,preferential allele expression,and structural variation that collectively result in a highly complex transcriptome and predicted proteome,which are distributed across the homologous chromosomes.Wild species contribute to the extensive allelic diversity in tetraploid cultivars,demonstrating ancestral introgressions predating modern breeding efforts.As a clonally propagated autotetraploid that undergoes limited meiosis,dysfunctional and deleterious alleles are not purged in tetraploid potato.Nearly a quarter of the loci bore mutations are predicted to have a high negative impact on protein function,complicating breeder’s efforts to reduce genetic load.The StCDF1 locus controls maturity,and analysis of six tetraploid genomes revealed that 12 allelic variants of StCDF1 are correlated with maturity in a dosage-dependent manner.Knowledge of the complexity of the tetraploid potato genome with its rampant structural variation and embedded deleterious and dysfunctional alleles will be key not only to implementing precision breeding of tetraploid cultivars but also to the construction of homozygous,diploid potato germplasm containing favorable alleles to capitalize on heterosis in F1 hybrids.

Chromosome-specific painting is a powerful technique in molecular cytogenetic and genome research. We developed an oligonucleotide（oligo） chromosome-painting technique in Cucumis species that will be applicable in any plant species with a sequenced genome. A bioinformatic pipeline was developed to select oligos specific to a single chromosome of cucumber（Cucumis sativus）. A massively parallel de novo synthesis approach was used to synthesize all selected oligos. The synthesized oligos were then amplified and labeled by biotin or digoxigenin for fluorescence in situ hybridization. We developed three probes with each containing 23,000 to 27,000 oligos. Each of these three probes hybridized specifically to a single cucumber chromosome and can be used to paint the homoeologous chromosomes in other Cucumis species that diverged from cucumber for up to 12 million years. The bulked oligo probes can effectively paint and track a single chromosome in early meiotic stages and can be used to map the pairing of a single pair of homoeologous chromosomes in a hybrid between cucumber and its wild relative species Cucumis hystrix.
