Unraveling the electrocatalytically active sites and stability of Co&Co oxides on nanocarbon for oxygen evolution reaction in acid solution

The oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in acid solution is a significant challenge for non-precious metal electrocatalysts based on the transition metals although they have shown good OER performance in alkaline *** this study,we synthesized the electrocatalysts containing two or three Co species(Co,CoO and Co3O4)nanoparticles on porous graphitic carbon(PGC)nanosheets which were prepared by a facile and low-cost synthesis where Co(NO3)2•6H2O and glucose were pyrolyzed in the presence of sodium chloride *** Co3O4-dominated catalyst as-prepared,Co3O4/PGC,is OER active in acid solution(1.74 V at a current density of 10 mA cm^−2).We identified the OER active sites in the catalyst to be the Co3O4 nanoparticles rather than carbon-coated *** comparative studies of the varied catalysts,we also proved that Co3O4 is catalytically more active than Co and *** Co3O4/PGC catalyst,however,lost almost of all its activity after 100 voltammetric cycles in the 1.2-1.8 V voltage *** the catalyst stability was examined potentiostatically at different potentials,the catalyst showed good stability at 1.4 *** stability study also revealed the mechanism of the catalyst instability in acid was caused by Co3O4 reduction below 1.4 V and by Co3O4 oxidation above 1.4 V.1.4 V is therefore a unique potential where Co3O4 nanoparticles are neither oxidized nor reduced to be susceptible to acid dissolution.

Recent years have seen a significant surge in energy storage research and development across the globe. This is due to a number of factors including the increasingly grave environmental concerns, increased energy consumption, rising fuel prices, limited fossil fuel resources and the growing interest in the expansion of renewable energy utilization. Energy exists in different forms including electrical, magnetic, mechanical, chemical and thermal energy. These forms of energy have different grades with electrical energy being the highest and thermal energy the lowest. Energy storage refers to a process whereby excess energy is stored in a form that can be converted back to the same form or into a different form when needed.

Microsatellites are highly polymorphic markers which have been used in a wide range of genetic *** recent years, various sources of next-generation sequencing data have been used to develop new microsatellite loci, but compared with the more common shotgun genomic sequencing or transcriptome data, the potential utility of RAD-seq data for microsatellite ascertainment is comparatively *** this study, we employed MiddRAD-seq data to develop polymorphic microsatellite loci for the endangered yew species Taxus florinii. Of 8,823,053 clean reads generated for ten individuals of a population, 94,851(~1%) contained microsatellite motifs. These corresponded to 2993 unique loci, of which 526(~18%) exhibited polymorphism. Of which, 237 were suitable for designing microsatellite primer pairs, and 128 loci were randomly selected for PCR validation and microsatellite screening. Out of the 128 primer pairs, 16 loci gave clear, reproducible patterns, and were then screened and characterized in 24 individuals from two populations. The total number of alleles per locus ranged from two to ten(mean=4.875), and within-population expected heterozygosity from zero to 0.789(mean = 0.530),indicating that these microsatellite loci will be useful for population genetics and speciation studies of T. florinii. This study represents one of few examples to mine polymorphic microsatellite loci from ddRAD data.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been declared a major threat to global health, with the potential to reverse advances in treating disease, and impeding other global pri-orities including human development. The urgent menace of AMR has been recognized by the World Health Organi-sation Global Action Plan in 2015 [1], the 2016 United Nations General Assembly unanimous commitment to tackle AMR [2], and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 declaration on AMR (3)AMR has been highlighted as a major health and economic challenge, with the consequences of failing to meet that challenge falling upon our children and grandchildren. Not only will children bear the burden of rising AMR, they are especially at risk now due to a number of factors. In many studies, children and the elderly are the highest consumers of antimicrobi-als (4)In addition, frequently inappropriate doses in chil-dren mean that they are receiving sub-therapeutic doses, maximizing the chance of encouraging resistant organ-isms to flourish. The normal behaviour of early childhood also encourages the spread of resistant organisms between children. Finally, their lifetime risk of exposure to resistant organisms is higher than adults.
