The involvement of the excitatory amino acids glutamate and aspartate in ce rebral ischemia and excitotoxicity is ***,the role of non-excitatory amino acids in brain damage following a stroke or brain trauma remains largely *** release of amino acids by necrotic cells in the ischemic core may contribute to the expansion of the *** findings indicated that the reversible loss of field excitato ry postsynaptic potentials caused by transient hypoxia became irreversible when exposed to a mixture of just four non-excitatory amino acids(L-alanine,glycine,L-glutamine,and L-serine)at their plasma *** amino acids induce swelling in the somas of neurons and astrocytes during hypoxia,along with permanent dendritic damage mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate *** N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors prevented neuronal damage in the presence of these amino acids during *** is likely that astroglial swelling caused by the accumulation of these amino acids via the alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 exchanger and system N transporters activates volume-regulated anion channels,leading to the release of excitotoxins and subsequent neuronal damage through N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor ***,previously unrecognized mechanisms involving non-excitatory amino acids may contribute to the progression and expansion of brain injury in neurological emergencies such as stroke and traumatic brain *** these pathways co uld highlight new therapeutic targets to mitigate brain injury.

Natural sediment at a dam and its inorganic materials as adsorbents of praseodymium(Pr(Ⅲ))

The sediment deposited behind a dam（DS） and its inorganic materials（IM-DS） were characterized and used for the removal of praseodymium（Pr） from aqueous solutions. Quartz, albite, and kaolinite were found in the sediment by X-ray diffraction. Kinetic data fit well to a pseudo second-order model, the equilibrium time for DS and IM-DS was 2 h and 3 min, respectively, and the adsorption capacity was higher for Pr/DS（qe= 4.91 mg/g） than for Pr/IM-DS（qe= 3.01 mg/g） in these conditions. Pr/DS and Pr/IM-DS data isotherms were in agreement with the Langmuir-Freundlich model and the maximum adsorption capacities were 4.95 and 4.01 mg/g, respectively. Both processes are exothermic（enthalpy change, ΔH0=-22.8 and-21.8 k J/mol for DS and IM-DS, respectively）, the increase of the randomness is small, and the feasibility and spontaneity are low. Praseodymium was desorbed by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium（EDTA-Na2）, sodium chloride, nitric, citric, and humic acids solutions, and one hundred percent of praseodymium was desorbed by the EDTA-Na2solution. The Pr2（EDTA）3（praseodymium ethylenediaminetetraacetate） complex was completely desorbed from both materials（DS and IM-DS）. Distribution coefficients（KD） depend upon praseodymium concentration,temperature, p H, and the kind of adsorbent. Chemical reactions of praseodymium with kaolinite and iron minerals could explain the adsorption.

Origin of light emission and enhanced Eu^(3+) photoluminescence in tin-containing glass

A barium-phosphate glass matrix was co-doped with Sn O and Eu2O3 for investigating on material luminescent properties. Optical absorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS） were employed in the characterization of tin species. The prevalence of divalent tin was indicated by the XPS data in accord with a conspicuous absorption band detected around 285 nm ascribed to twofold-coordinated Sn centers（isoelectronic with Sn^2＋）. Photoluminescence（PL） excitation spectra obtained by monitoring Eu^3＋ emission from the 5D0 state revealed a broad excitation band from about 250 to 340 nm, characteristic of donor/acceptor energy transfer. Under excitation of such at 290 nm, the co-doped material exhibited a bright whitish luminescence, and a four-fold enhanced Eu3＋ emission relative to a purely Eu-doped reference. Time-resolved PL spectra recorded under the excitation at 290 nm exposed a broad band characteristic of the twofold-coordinated Sn centers and emission bands of Eu^3＋ ions, which appeared well separated in time in accord with their emission decay dynamics. The data suggested that light absorption took place at the Sn centers（donors） followed by energy transfer to Eu^3＋ ions（acceptors） which resulted in populating the 5D0 emitting state. Energy transfer pathways likely resulting in the enhanced Eu3＋ photoluminescence and the consequential light emission were discussed.

A comprehensive investigation on nonlinear vibration and bending characteristics of bio-inspired helicoidal laminated composite structures

Bio-inspired helicoidal composite laminates, inspired by the intricate helical structures found in nature, present a promising frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties of structural designs. Hence, this study provides a comprehensive investigation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-inspired composite plates. The inverse hyperbolic shear deformation theory(IHSDT) of plates is employed to characterize the displacement field, with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. The problem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB environment to solve it numerically. Various helicoidal layup configurations including helicoidal recursive(Hr), helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-circular(HS), linear helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup sequences and quasi-isotropic configurations are studied. The model is validated, and parametric studies are conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configurations, side-to-thickness ratio, modulus ratios, boundary conditions, and loading conditions at different load amplitudes on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors of bio-inspired composite plates. The results show that the laminate sequence exerts a substantial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies and nonlinear bending behaviors. Moreover, this influence varies across different side-to-thickness ratios and boundary conditions of the bio-inspired composite plate.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV)for forest monitoring has grown significantly in recent years,providing information with high spatial resolution and temporal *** with multispectral sensors allow the use of indexes such as the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI),which determines the vigor,physiological stress and photo synthetic activity of *** study aimed to analyze the spectral responses and variations of NDVI in tree crowns,as well as their correlation with climatic factors over the course of one *** study area encompassed a 1.6-ha site in Durango,Mexico,where Pinus cembroides,Pinus engelmannii,and Quercus grisea *** images were acquired with UAV and information on meteorological variables was obtained from NASA/POWEr *** ANOVA explored possible differences in NDVI among the three *** correlation was performed to identify the linear relationship between NDVI and meteorological *** differences in NDVI values were found at the genus level(Pinus and Quercus),possibly related to the physiological features of the species and their *** grisea had the lowest NDVI values throughout the year which may be attributed to its sensitivity to relative humidity and *** the use of UAV with a multispectral sensor for NDVI monitoring allowed genera differentiation,in more complex forest analyses hyperspectral and LiDAr sensors should be integrated,as well other vegetation indexes be considered.

Predicting grain size-dependent superplastic properties in friction stir processed ZK30 magnesium alloy with machine learning methods

The aim of this work is to predict,for the first time,the high temperature flow stress dependency with the grain size and the underlaid deformation mechanism using two machine learning models,random forest(rF)and artificial neural network(ANN).With that purpose,a ZK30 magnesium alloy was friction stir processed(FSP)using three different severe conditions to obtain fine grain microstructures(with average grain sizes between 2 and 3μm)prone to extensive superplastic *** three friction stir processed samples clearly deformed by grain boundary sliding(GBS)deformation mechanism at high *** maximum elongations to failure,well over 400% at high strain rate of 10^(-2)s^(-1),were reached at 400℃ in the material with coarsest grain size of 2.8μm,and at 300℃ for the finest grain size of 2μ***,the superplastic response decreased at 350℃ and 400℃ due to thermal instabilities and grain coarsening,which makes it difficult to assess the operative deformation mechanism at such *** work highlights that the machine learning models considered,especially the ANN model with higher accuracy in predicting flow stress values,allow determining adequately the superplastic creep behavior including other possible grain size scenarios.
