Extreme high reversible capacity with over 8.0 wt% and excellent hydrogen storage properties of MgH2 combined with LiBH4 and Li3AlH6

Magnesium hydride has attracted great attention because of its high theoretical capacity and outstanding reversibility, nevertheless, its practical applications have been restricted by the disadvantages of the sluggish kinetics and high thermodynamic stability. In this work, an unexpected high reversible hydrogen capacity over 8.0 wt% has been achieved from MgH2 metal hydride composited with small amounts of LiBH4 and Li3AlH6 complex hydrides, which begins to release hydrogen at 276 ℃ and then completely dehydrogenates at 360 ℃. The dehydrogenated MgH2+LiBH4/Li3AlH6 composite can fully reabsorb hydrogen below 300 ℃ with an excellent cycling stability. The composite exhibits a significant reduction of dehydrogenation activation energy from 279.7 kJ/mol(primitive MgH2) to 139.3 kJ/mol(MgH2+LiBH4/Li3AlH6),as well as a remarkable reduction of dehydrogenation enthalpy change from 75.1 k J/mol H2(primitive MgH2) to 62.8 kJ/mol H2(MgH2+LiBH4/Li3AlH6). The additives of LiBH4 and Li3AlH6 not only enhance the cycling hydrogen capacity, but also simultaneously improve the reversible de/rehydrogenation kinetics, as well as the dehydrogenation thermodynamics. This notable improvement on the hydrogen absorption/desorption behaviors of the MgH2+LiBH4/Li3AlH6 composite could be attributed to the dehydrogenated products including Li3Mg7, Mg17Al12 and MgAlB4, which play a key role on reducing the dehydrogenation activation energy and increasing diffusion rate of hydrogen. Meanwhile, the LiBH4 and Li3AlH6 effectively destabilize MgH2 with a remarkable reduction on dehydrogenation enthalpy change in terms of thermodynamics. In particular, the Li3Mg7, Mg17Al12 and MgAlB4 phases can reversibly transform into MgH2, Li3AlH6 and LiBH4 after rehydrogenation, which contribute to maintain a high cycling *** constructing strategy can further promote the development of high reversible capacity Mg-based materials with suitable de/rehydrogenation properties.

Nanoimprint lithography-assisted block copolymer self-assembly for hyperfine fabrication of magnetic patterns based on L10-FePt nanoparticles

L10-FePt-type bit-patterned media has provided a promising alternative for ultrahigh-density magnetic recording systems in the current digital era, but rapid fabrication of magnetic patterns with hyperfine bit islands is still challenging, especially with the target for miniaturization and scalable production simultaneously. Herein, Fe,Pt-containing block copolymers were utilized as single-source precursors for solution-processable patterning and subsequent generation of the demanding magnetic FePt dots by in situ pyrolysis. High-throughput nanoimprint lithography was initially employed to fabricate the predefined bit cells precisely,and then the intrinsic self-assembly of phase-separated block copolymers further drove the formation of accurate bit *** from the synergistic effect of top-down lithographic approach and bottom-up self-assembly, the customizable patterns could be achieved for large-scale mass production in targeted areas, but high-density isolated dots could also be accurately aligned along the patterned features after subsequent self-assembly. This reliable strategy would provide a good avenue to precisely construct ultrahigh-density magnetic data storage devices.

Crosstalk between degradation and bioenergetics: how autophagy and endolysosomal processes regulate energy production

Cells undergo metabolic reprogramming to adapt to changes in nutrient availability, cellular activity, and transitions in cell states. The balance between glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration is crucial for energy production, and metabolic reprogramming stipulates a shift in such balance to optimize both bioenergetic efficiency and anabolic requirements. Failure in switching bioenergetic dependence can lead to maladaptation and pathogenesis. While cellular degradation is known to recycle precursor molecules for anabolism, its potential role in regulating energy production remains less explored. The bioenergetic switch between glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration involves transcription factors and organelle homeostasis, which are both regulated by the cellular degradation pathways. A growing body of studies has demonstrated that both stem cells and differentiated cells exhibit bioenergetic switch upon perturbations of autophagic activity or endolysosomal processes. Here, we highlighted the current understanding of the interplay between degradation processes, specifically autophagy and endolysosomes, transcription factors, endolysosomal signaling, and mitochondrial homeostasis in shaping cellular bioenergetics. This review aims to summarize the relationship between degradation processes and bioenergetics, providing a foundation for future research to unveil deeper mechanistic insights into bioenergetic regulation.

Aerodynamic Optimization and Flow Mechanism for a Compressor Cascade at Low Reynolds Number

Low-Reynolds-number effect is an important factor affecting the performance of compressors and other main components of high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial *** improve the flow condition and reduce flow loss under the condition of high altitude and low Reynolds number(Re),this paper proposes an optimization process based on a surrogate model,which combines the class-shape transformation method(CST),the Latin hypercube sampling(LHS) method,the light gradient-boosting machine algorithm(LightGBM),and a genetic algorithm(GA) to optimize a high-subsonic compressor *** surrogate model is verified to be accurate and can be used in the optimization *** accuracy of the GA is higher than the other algorithms under common test *** optimization results are verified by numerical simulation,and the flow differences before and after optimization are compared,especially the flow within the boundary *** changing the blade shape,the optimization process adjusts the loading distribution to delay the transition of the optimized blade on the suction surface,which changes the turbulent reattachment in the laminar separation bubble(LSB) into laminar ***,the mixing loss induced by the turbulent reattachment of the LSB and the wake loss of turbulent separation at the trailing edge are significantly reduced,and the performance of the compressor profile is finally *** addition,turbulent separation of the optimized profile is delayed reducing the range of the wake region on the suction *** this optimization process,the reduction of total pressure loss coefficient at Re of 2.5×10～5,3.5×10～5,and 4.5×10～5 are 16.32%,20.76%,and 22.16%,respectively.

Bremsstrahlung—the spontaneous emission of broadband radiation from free electrons that are deflected by atomic nuclei—contributes to the majority of X-rays emitted from X-ray tubes and used in applications ranging from medical imaging to semiconductor chip ***,we show that the bremsstrahlung intensity can be enhanced significantly—by more than three orders of magnitude—through shaping the electron wavefunction to periodically overlap with atoms in crystalline ***,we show how to shape the bremsstrahlung X-ray emission pattern into arbitrary angular emission profiles for purposes such as unidirectionality and ***,we find that these enhancements and shaped emission profiles cannot be attributed solely to the spatial overlap between the electron probability distribution and the atomic centers,as predicted by the paraxial and nonrecoil theory for free electron light *** work highlights an unprecedented regime of free electron light emission where electron waveshaping provides multi-dimensional control over practical radiation processes like *** results pave the way towards greater versatility in table-top X-ray sources and improved fundamental understanding of quantum electron-light interactions.

The mechanism of urea's action in protein denaturation remains largely *** provide an experimental basis for molecular dynamics(MD)simulations on urea-protein interactions,we investigated the effect of urea on human intestinal fatty acid binding protein(hIFABP)by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).Hydrogen-deuterium exchange(HDX)rates at2 M urea indicate that urea affects hIFABP in a residue-specific manner via direct urea-protein interactions and preferentially weakens hydrogen bonds between highly protected ***-specific effects of urea on NMR peak intensities and chemical shifts further support the presence of direct urea-protein ***(2D)water-rotating frame Overhauser enhancement(ROE)data shows one protein-bound water molecule in contact with Val66 and Trp82,one putative bound water molecule in interaction with Thr76 and E-F loop,and that urea at low concentrations cannot displace these protein-bound water *** urea-nuclear Overhauser effect(NOE)experiments using 15N-urea further show no tightly protein-bound urea *** results thus suggest specific,but weak or transient,urea-protein interactions,supporting the direct interaction model of urea denaturation.
