Discoveries of deep high-quality carbonate reservoirs challenged the general understanding on the evolution of porosity decreasing with depth.New mechanisms of pore generation and preservation in the deep realm require to be proposed.Dolostones in the Feixianguan and Dengying Formations experienced maximum depths in excess of 8000 m,but still retained high porosity.Petrographic observation and homogenization temperatures help to identify products of deep fluid-rock interactions,visual and experimental porosity were used to quantify reservoir effects,the distribution of products finally being plotted to unravel the mechanisms.Th data reveal that thermochemical sulfate reduction(TSR),burial dissolution and quartz cementation are typical deep fluid-rock interactions.The SO_(4)^(2-)of residual porewater sourced from the evaporative dolomitizing fluid was supplied for TSR in the hydrocarbon column,the TSR-inducing calcite cements were homogeneously dispersed in the hydrocarbon column.Quartz cementation was caused by the increasing acidity and Si-rich residual porewater in the oil column.Burial dissolution is forced by organic acid and limited in oil-water contact.This study suggests that seal and source rocks not only play important roles in hydrocarbon accumulation,but also have a general control on the deep fluid-rock interactions and porosity evolution in the deep burial realm.

Chitin is an abundant natural nitrogen-containing biopolymer with great application potential in materials,environment,energy,and health.However,the structure characteristics and processing technologies have required intense research in related applications.In particular,there have been great efforts to developing solvents for chitin,and the results s0 far are quite encouraging.This review summarizes the main solvent systems used for chitin,namely the aqueous solvent systems(mineral acids,inorganic salt aqueous solutions,alkali aqueous solutions)and non aqueous ones(LiCl-dimethylacetamide solvents,CaCl22H2O saturated methanol,ionic liquids,deep eutectic solvents,and protic organic solvents).The solvent properties,dissolution methods,and solution properties are discussed in detail.Special attention is paid to the dissolution mechanism in each system.This review can provide a reference for understanding the dissolution behavior of chitin and finding suitable solvents for it.

Due to the increasing public awareness of environmental issues and the shortage of resources,the focus on products made from renewable sources to fulill the sustainable development of modern society has intensified.Natural crystalline polysaccharides have been studied for a long time and are among the most abundant renewable resources in the world.High-performance materials have been fabricated using crystalline polysaccharides such as cellulose and chitin.For practical applications,the mechanical performance of polysaccharide-based materials is critical.In this review,we focus on the methods for constructing high-strength and high-toughness crystalline polysaccharide-based materials.This review elucidates the three approaches of aggregate structure regulation,bioinspiration and mineralization,and the use of crystalline polysaccharides as matrices for reinforcing the mechanical properties of nanocomposites.

Background Rises in global warming and extreme weather occurrence make the risk of heat stress(HS)induced by high ambient temperatures more likely in high-yielding dairy cows,resulting in low milk quality and yield.In ani-mals,oxygen is involved in many physiological and metabolic processes,but the effects of HS on oxygen metabolism remain unclear.Thus,the current study aimed to investigate how oxygen metabolism plays a role in health status of dairy cows by measuring the milk yield,milk composition,and blood biochemical variables of cows under different levels of HS:none(No-HS),mild(Mild-HS),and moderate HS(Mod-HS).Results The HS significantly increased rectal temperature(Ptreat<0.01)and respiration rate(Ptreat<0.01).Under Mod-HS,greater Na+(P<0.05)and lower total CO_(2),and pH(P<0.05)were observed relative to those under No-HS and Mild-HS.Oxygen concentrations in both coccygeal artery and mammary vein(Ptreat<0.01)were lower under Mod-HS than under No-HS.Coccygeal vein concentrations of heat shock protein 90(HSP90)(P<0.05)increased during Mod-HS compared with those in cows under No-HS.Malondialdehyde increased during Mod-HS,and glu-tathione peroxidase(P<0.01)increased during Mild-HS.Coccygeal vein concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor(P<0.01),heme oxygenase-1(P<0.01),and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α(P<0.01)were greater in cows under Mod-HS than those under No-HS.Red blood cell count(P<0.01)and hemoglobin concentration(P<0.01)were lower in the coccygeal vein of dairy cows under Mild-and Mod-HS than those of cows under No-HS.Conclusions Exposure to HS negatively impacts the health status and lactation performance of dairy cows by limit-ing oxygen metabolism and transportation.However,the specific mechanism by which HS affects mammary function in cows remains unclear and requires further exploration.

Collision risk assessment of reduced aircraft separation minima in procedural airspace using advanced communication and navigation

With the advancement of Communication,Navigation and Surveillance(CNS)technolo-gies such as space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast/Contract(ADS-B/C),large separation minima may be reduced in procedural airspaces.It is of great significance to know the upper limit of the Reduced Separation Minima(RSM)for a procedural airspace and the corre-sponding consequences on collision risk with specifics of the advanced ADS-B and control interven-tion model.In this work,an interactive software is first developed for collision risk estimation.This software integrates the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO)collision risk models for lateral and longitudinal collision risk calculation for the Singapore procedural airspace.Results demonstrate that the lateral and longitudinal collision risk of Singapore procedural airspace with respect to current control procedures meets the ICAO Target Level of Safety(TLS)standard.Moreover,the feasibility of reducing the horizontal separations implemented in the Singapore pro-cedural airspace with respect to advanced CNS techniques is investigated.It is found that if advanced CNS technologies are applied,then the current 50-NM lateral and longitudinal separa-tion standards can be reduced to 22 NM(1 NM=1.825 km)and 20 NM,respectively,to meet the TLS standards based on current demand.A method is then devised to expand the traffic demand by p for p∈[10%,200%].It is found that the minimum lateral and longitudinal separa-tions can be reduced from 50 NM to be within the range of[23,31]NM,and 20 NM,respectively,for p∈[10%,200%],while the collision risk still meets the TLS standards.

A corrosion defect is recognized as one of the most severe phenomena for high-pressure pipelines,especially those served for a long time.Finite-element method and empirical formulas are thereby used for the strength prediction of such pipes with corrosion.However,it is time-consuming for finite-element method and there is a limited application range by using empirical formulas.In order to improve the prediction of strength,this paper investigates the burst pressure of line pipelines with a single corrosion defect subjected to internal pressure based on data-driven methods.Three supervised ML(machine learning)algorithms,including the ANN(artificial neural network),the SVM(support vector machine)and the LR(linear regression),are deployed to train models based on experimental data.Data analysis is first conducted to determine proper pipe features for training.Hyperparameter tuning to control the learning process is then performed to fit the best strength models for corroded pipelines.Among all the proposed data-driven models,the ANN model with three neural layers has the highest training accuracy,but also presents the largest variance.The SVM model provides both high training accuracy and high validation accuracy.The LR model has the best performance in terms of generalization ability.These models can be served as surrogate models by transfer learning with new coming data in future research,facilitating a sustainable and intelligent decision-making of corroded pipelines.

With the current revolution in Shipping 4.0, a tremendous amount of data is accumulated during vessel operations. Dataquality (DQ) is becoming more and more important for the further digitalization and effective decision-making in shippingindustry. In this study, a practical DQ assessment method for raw data in vessel operations is proposed. In this method,specific data categories and data dimensions are developed based on engineering practice and existing literature. Concretevalidation rules are then formed, which can be used to properly divide raw datasets. Afterwards, a scoring method is usedfor the assessment of the data quality. Three levels, namely good, warning and alarm, are adopted to reflect the final dataquality. The root causes of bad data quality could be revealed once the internal dependency among rules has been built,which will facilitate the further improvement of DQ in practice. A case study based on the datasets from a Danish shippingcompany is conducted, where the DQ variation is monitored, assessed and compared. The results indicate that theproposed method is effective to help shipping industry improve the quality of raw data in practice. This innovationresearch can facilitate shipping industry to set a solid foundation at the early stage of their digitalization journeys.

A Quasi-Linear Relationship between Planetary Outgoing Longwave Radiation and Surface Temperature in a Radiative-Convective-Transportive Climate Model of a Gray Atmosphere

In this study,we put forward a radiative-convective-transportive energy balance model of a gray atmosphere to examine individual roles of the greenhouse effect of water vapor,vertical convection,and atmospheric poleward energy transport as well as their combined effects for a quasi-linear relationship between the outgoing longwave radiation(OLR)and surface temperature(T_(S)).The greenhouse effect of water vapor enhances the meridional gradient of surface temperature,thereby directly contributing to a quasi-linear OLR-T_(S) relationship.The atmospheric poleward energy transport decreases the meridional gradient of surface temperature.As a result of the poleward energy transport,tropical(high-latitude)atmosphere-surface columns emit less(more)OLR than the solar energy input at their respective locations,causing a substantial reduction of the meridional gradient of the OLR.The combined effect of reducing the meridional gradients of both OLR and surface temperature by the poleward energy transport also contributes to the quasi-linear OLR-T_(S) relationship.Vertical convective energy transport reduces the meridional gradient of surface temperature without affecting the meridional gradient of OLR,thereby suppressing part of the reduction to the increasing rate of OLR with surface temperature by the greenhouse effect of water vapor and poleward energy transport.Because of the nature of the energy balance in the climate system,such a quasi-linear relationship is also a good approximation for the relationship between the annual-mean net downward solar energy flux at the top of the atmosphere and surface temperature.

Topological Catenation Enhances Elastic Modulus of Single Linear Polycatenane

Entropic elasticity of single chains underlies many fundamental aspects of mechanical properties of polymers,such as high elasticity of polymer networks and viscoelasticity of polymer liquids.On the other hand,single chain elasticity is further rooted in chain connectivity.Recently,mechanically interlocked polymers,including polycatenanes and polyrotaxanes,which are formed by connecting their building blocks(cyclic and linear chains)through topological bonds(e.g.,entanglements),emerge as a conceptually new kind of polymers.In this work,we employ computer simulations to study linear elasticity of single linear polycatenane(or[n]catenane),in which n rings are interlocked through catenation into a chain of linear architecture.Aim of this work is to illuminate the specific role of catenation topology in the elastic moduli of linear polycatenanes by comparing with those of their[n]bonded-ring counterparts,which are formed by connecting the same number of rings but via covalent bonds.Simulation results lead to a conclusion that topological catenation makes[n]catenanes exhibit larger elastic moduli than their linear and[n]bonded-ring counterparts,i.e.,larger elastic moduli in the case of[n]catenanes.Furthermore,it is revealed that those[n]catenanes composed of a smaller number of rings(smaller n)possesses larger elastic moduli than others of the same total chain lengths.Molecular mechanisms of these findings are discussed based on conformational entropy due to topological constraints.
