Objective Secoemestrin C(SC),an epitetrathiodioxopiperazine isolated from Aspergillus nidulans,has been previously reported to have immunomodulatory and hepatoprotective effects against acute autoimmune hepatitis.However,the effect of SC on regulating the inflammation and its underlying mechanisms in the pathogenesis of psoriasis remain unclear.This study aimed to evaluate the effects of SC on inflammatory dermatosis both in vitro and in vivo.Methods In vitro,HaCaT cells were induced with tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α,10 ng/mL)to establish an inflammatory injury model,and the expression of nuclear transcription factor-κB(NF-κB)pathway components was measured using qRT-PCR and Western blotting.An in vivo mouse model of imiquimod(IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation was used to evaluate the effectiveness of SC in alleviating psoriasis.Results SC significantly blocked the activation of NF-κB signaling in TNF-α-stimulated HaCaT cells.In addition,systemic and local administration of SC improved psoriatic dermatitis in the IMQ-induced mouse model.SC reduced skin scale and significantly inhibited the secretion of inflammatory factors in skin lesions.Conclusion The protective effect of SC against psoriatic-associated inflammation reveals its potential therapeutic value for treating psoriasis.

Two types of existing iterative methods for solving the nonlinear balance equation(NBE)are revisited.In the first type,the NBE is rearranged into a linearized equation for a presumably small correction to the initial guess or the subsequent updated solution.In the second type,the NBE is rearranged into a quadratic form of the absolute vorticity with the positive root of this quadratic form used in the form of a Poisson equation to solve NBE iteratively.The two methods are rederived by expanding the solution asymptotically upon a small Rossby number,and a criterion for optimally truncating the asymptotic expansion is proposed to obtain the super-asymptotic approximation of the solution.For each rederived method,two iterative procedures are designed using the integral-form Poisson solver versus the over-relaxation scheme to solve the boundary value problem in each iteration.Upon testing with analytically formulated wavering jet flows on the synoptic,sub-synoptic and meso-αscales,the iterative procedure designed for the first method with the Poisson solver,named M1a,is found to be the most accurate and efficient.For the synoptic wavering jet flow in which the NBE is entirely elliptic,M1a is extremely accurate.For the sub-synoptic wavering jet flow in which the NBE is mostly elliptic,M1a is sufficiently accurate.For the meso-αwavering jet flow in which the NBE is partially hyperbolic so its boundary value problem becomes seriously ill-posed,M1a can effectively reduce the solution error for the cyclonically curved part of the wavering jet flow,but not for the anti-cyclonically curved part.

To the Editor:Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a chronic,progressive,and fibrotic lung disease.The clinical processes of IPF include dyspnea,decreased lung function,and cough.The median survival time of patients with IPF is approximately 3 years.The 5-year survival rate is less than 30%.[1]Although some progress has been made in anti-fibrotic therapy,IPF is still an incurable disease.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the pathological process of IPF from the perspective of cell biology,and these explorations can provide a basis for the treatment of IPF.

Objective： In most cotintries, nearly 6% of the adults are suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD）. which puts a huge economic burden on the society. Moreover, COPD has been considered as an independent risk factor for pulmonary embolism （PE）. In this review, we summarized the existing evidence that demonstrates the associations between COPD exacerbation and PE from various aspects, including epidemiology, pathophysiological changes, risk factors, clinical features, management, and prognosis. Data Sources： We searched the terms ＂chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,＂＂＇pulmonary embolism,＂＂exacerbations,＂ and ＂＇thromboembolic＂ in PubMed database and collected the results up to April 2018. The language was limited to English. Study Selection： We thoroughly examined the titles and abstracts of all studies that met our search strategy. The data from prospective studies, meta-analyses, retrospective studies, and recent reviews were selected for preparing this review. Results： The prevalence of PE in patients with COPD exacerbation varied a lot among different studies, mainly due to the variations in race, sample size, study design, research setting, and enrollment criteria. Overall, whites and African Americans showed significantly higher prevalence of PE than Asian people, and the hospitalized patients showed higher prevalence of PE compared to those who were evaluated in emergency department. PE is easily overlooked in patients with COPD exacerbation due to the similar clinical symptoms. However, several factors have been identified to contribute to the increased risk of PE during COPD exacerbation. Obesity and lower limb asymmetry were described as independent predictors for PE. Moreover, due to the high risk of PE, thromboprophylaxis has been used as an important treatment for hospitalized patients with COPD exacerbation. Three types of previously used numerical methods are revisited for computing the streamfunctionψand velocity potentialχfrom the horizontal velocity v in limited domains.The first type,called the SOR-based method,uses a classical successive over-relaxation(SOR)scheme to computeψ(orχ)first with an arbitrary boundary condition(BC)and thenχ(orψ)with the BC derived from v.The second type,called the spectral method,uses spectral formulations to construct the inner part of(ψ,χ)-the inversion of(vorticity,divergence)with a homogeneous BC,and then the remaining harmonic part of(ψ,χ)with BCs from v.The third type,called the integral method,uses integral formulas to compute the internally induced(ψ,χ)-the inversion of domain-internal(vorticity,divergence)using the free-space Greenꞌs function without BCs and then the remaining harmonicψ(orχ)with BCs from v minus the internally-induced part.Although these methods have previously been successfully applied to flows in large-scale and synoptic-scale domains,their accuracy is compromised when applied to complex flows over mesoscale domains,as shown in this paper.To resolve this problem,two hybrid approaches,the integral-SOR method and the integral-spectral method,are developed by combining the first step of the integral method with the second step adopted from the SOR-based and spectral methods,respectively.Upon testing these methods on real-case complex flows,the integral-SOR method is significantly more accurate than the integral-spectral method,noting that the latter is still generally more accurate than the three previously-used methods.The integral-SOR method is recommended for future applications and diagnostic studies of complex flows.

Biosensors based on small molecule peptides have developed rapidly in the detection of disease markers with the characteristics of high sensitivity, rapid analysis speed and easy miniaturization. The properties of the sensor, such as the sensitivity and detection range, are closely related to the material and structure of the electrodes. The electrodes mainly used in peptidebased biosensors are gold electrodes, glassy carbon electrodes(GCE), indium tin oxide(ITO) conductive glass electrodes and screen-printed electrodes. In addition, to improve the biomolecule loading rate, antifouling performance, electrical conductivity of the biosensor, a variety of nanomaterials and organic molecules are used to construct the biosensor for disease detection. This review summarizes the properties of several commonly used electrodes for peptide-based electrochemical biosensors, and introduces some modified materials of the electrode and their effects on sensor performance. In the future,the peptide-based biosensors will be widely used in clinical detection and other related fields.

Factors influencing the degree of participation in surgical decision-making among Chinese patients with prostate cancer:A qualitative research

Objective:There was increasingly demand of participation in surgical decision-making among Chinese patients with prostate cancer.However,due to the complex healthcare system and advanced care settings,it is quite challenging for the patients to gain sufficient support from the institute and the government.This research aimed to investigate the factors that impact the degree of participation in surgical decision-making among Chinese prostate cancer patients.Methods:A phenomenological approach of qualitative research based on the results of semi-structured interviews was adopted,to explore the influencing factors which hinder the participation in surgical decision-making.Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research were utilized.Up to 160 post-operative patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy along with 68 medical and nursing staffs,were purposively recruited in this research.This retrospective study was carried out from September 2018 to August 2019.After recording and transcribing the interviews,the interview materials were evaluated via the Colaizzi's seven step approach and the NVivo Version 10 software to analyze the interview content.Results:According to the analysis and summary of the interviews,there were three factors affecting the degree of participation in surgical decision-making.Firstly,insufficient information was provided by medical and nursing staffs because of their lack of time,proper communication skills,and career experience,as well as difficulties in the development of patient decision aid and inconsistent resource availability.Secondly,the cognitive level of decision-making among patients was relatively low due to poor psychological endurance,insufficient amount of education,senility,and less knowledge and information demand.Ultimately,decisions were constantly made by family members with/without patients.Conclusions:The degree of participation of Chinese prostate cancer patients in the surgical decision-making had much space for improvement.

The characteristics of the mesoscale gravity waves during a snowfall event on November 30,2018 over the Ili Valley and the northern slope of the Tianshan Mountains are analyzed based on the Weather Research and Forecasting model simulation.The vertical distribution of Ro is similar to that of the residual of the nonlinear balance equation(△NBE),with their high-value areas located over the leeward slope and the fluctuations extending upwardly with time,indicating the characteristics of strong ageostrophy and non-equilibrium of atmospheric motions.In addition,the Ro and(△NBE)are first developed in the lower layers over the leeward slope,revealing that the generation of the gravity waves is closely related to the topography.Thus,the topographic uplifting greatly affects this snowfall,and the ageostrophic motion in the whole troposphere and the lower stratosphere,as well as the unbalanced motions between convergence and divergence over the peak and the leeward slope are conductive to the development of the inertia-gravity waves.In terms of the horizontal scale of the gravity waves,the Barnes’bandpass filter is applied to separate the mesoscale waves and the synoptic-scale basic flow.The vertical distributions of the vorticity and divergence perturbations have a phase difference ofπ/2,indicating the polarization state of gravity waves.The analyses on the sources and sinks of gravity waves by the non-hydrostatic wave equation show that the main forcing term for orographic gravity waves is the second-order nonlinear term,whose magnitude mainly depends on the nonlinear thermal forcing.This term is mainly related to the vertical transport of potential temperature perturbations.During the snowfall,the potential temperature perturbations are mainly caused by the topographic relief and the release of condensation latent heat.Therefore,the gravity waves in this snowfall are caused by the topographic forcing and condensation latent heating.

A New Method for Image Tamper Detection Based on an Improved U-Net

With the improvement of image editing technology,the threshold of image tampering technology decreases,which leads to a decrease in the authenticity of image content.This has also driven research on image forgery detection techniques.In this paper,a U-Net with multiple sensory field feature extraction(MSCU-Net)for image forgery detection is proposed.The proposed MSCU-Net is an end-to-end image essential attribute segmentation network that can perform image forgery detection without any pre-processing or post-processing.MSCU-Net replaces the single-scale convolution module in the original network with an improved multiple perceptual field convolution module so that the decoder can synthesize the features of different perceptual fields use residual propagation and residual feedback to recall the input feature information and consolidate the input feature information to make the difference in image attributes between the untampered and tampered regions more obvious,and introduce the channel coordinate confusion attention mechanism(CCCA)in skip-connection to further improve the segmentation accuracy of the network.In this paper,extensive experiments are conducted on various mainstream datasets,and the results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method,which outperforms the state-of-the-art image forgery detection methods.
