Temporal solitons have been the focus of much research due to their fascinating physical *** solitons can form bound states,which are fundamentally crucial modes in fiber laser and present striking analogies with their matter molecules counterparts,which means they have potential applications in large-capacity transmission and alloptical information *** traditionally,second-order dispersion has been the dominant dispersion for conventional solitons,recent experimental and theoretical research has shown that pure-high-even-order dispersion(PHEOD)solitons with energy-width scaling can arise from the interaction of arbitrary negative-even-order dispersion and Kerr *** these advancements,research on the bound states of PHEOD solitons is currently *** this study,we obtained PHEOD bound solitons in a fiber laser using an intra-cavity spectral pulse shaper for high-order dispersion ***,we experimentally demonstrate the existence of PHEOD solitons and PHEOD bound solitons with pure-quartic,-sextic,-octic,and-decic *** simulations corroborate these experimental ***,vibrating phase PHEOD bound soliton pairs,sliding phase PHEOD bound soliton pairs,and hybrid phase PHEOD bound tri-soliton are discovered and *** results broaden the fundamental understanding of solitons and show the universality of multi-soliton patterns.

Photoreceptor cell degeneration leads to blindness, for which there is currently no effective treatment. Our previous studies have shown that Lycium barbarum(L. barbarum) polysaccharide(LBP) protects degenerated photoreceptors in rd1, a transgenic mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa. L. barbarum glycopeptide(Lb GP) is an immunoreactive glycoprotein extracted from LBP. In this study, we investigated the potential protective effect of Lb GP on a chemically induced photoreceptor-degenerative mouse model. Wild-type mice received the following: oral administration of Lb GP as a protective pre-treatment on days 1–7;intraperitoneal administration of 40 mg/kg N-methylN-nitrosourea to induce photoreceptor injury on day 7;and continuation of orally administered Lb GP on days 8–14. Treatment with Lb GP increased photoreceptor survival and improved the structure of photoreceptors, retinal photoresponse, and visual behaviors of mice with photoreceptor degeneration. Lb GP was also found to partially inhibit the activation of microglia in N-methyl-N-nitrosourea-injured retinas and significantly decreased the expression of two pro-inflammatory cytokines. In conclusion, Lb GP effectively slowed the rate of photoreceptor degeneration in N-methyl-N-nitrosourea-injured mice, possibly through an anti-inflammatory mechanism, and has potential as a candidate drug for the clinical treatment of photoreceptor degeneration.

Switching from mitotic spermatogonia to meiotic spermatocytes is critical to producing haploid sperms during male germ cell differentiation. However, the underlying mechanisms of this switch remain largely unexplored. In Drosophila melanogaster, the gene RpL38encodes the ribosomal protein L38, one component of the 60S subunit of ribosomes. We found that its depletion in spermatogonia severely diminished the production of mature sperms and thus led to the infertility of male flies. By examining the germ cell differentiation in testes,we found that RpL38-knockdown blocked the transition from spermatogonia to spermatocytes and accumulated spermatogonia in the testis. To understand the intrinsic reason for this blockage, we conducted proteomic analysis for these spermatogonia populations. Differing from the control spermatogonia, the accumulated spermatogonia in RpL38-knockdown testes already expressed many spermatocyte markers but lacked many meiosis-related proteins, suggesting that spermatogonia need to prepare some important proteins for meiosis to complete their switch into spermatocytes. Mechanistically, we found that the expression of bag of marbles (bam), a crucial determinant in the transition from spermatogonia to spermatocytes, was inhibited at both the mRNA and protein levels upon RpL38 depletion. We also confirmed that the bam loss phenocopied RpL38 RNAi in the testis phenotype and transcriptomic profiling. Strikingly, overexpressing bam was able to fully rescue the testis abnormality and infertility of RpL38-knockdown flies, indicating that bam is the key effector downstream of RpL38 to regulate spermatogonia differentiation. Overall, our data suggested that germ cells start to prepare meiosis-related proteins as early as the spermatogonial stage, and RpL38 in spermatogonia is required to regulate their transition toward spermatocytes in a bamdependent manner, providing new knowledge for our understanding of the transition process from spermatogonia to spe

A new algorithm to exploit the learning rates of gradient descent method is presented, based on the second-order Taylor expansion of the error energy function with respect to learning rate, at some values decided by "award-punish" strategy. Detailed deduction of the algorithm applied to RBF networks is given. Simulation studies show that this algorithm can increase the rate of convergence and improve the performance of the gradient descent method.

In order to forecast the distribution of crest amplitudes and the occurrence of freak waves in a short crested coastal sea,a novel transformed linear simulation method is initially proposed in this paper.A Hermite transformation model expressed as a monotonic cubic polynomial serves as the foundation for the novel simulation *** wave crest amplitude exceedance probabilities of two sea states-one with a directional wave spectrum based on the measured wave elevation data at the Yura coast and the other with a typical directional JONSWAP wave spectrum-have been predicted using the novel simulation method that has been *** likelihood that a particular critical wave crest amplitude will be exceeded is directly correlated with the probability that freak waves will *** is shown that the novel simulation approach suggested can provide predictions that are more precise than those obtained from the Rayleigh crest amplitude distribution model,the Jahns and Wheeler crest amplitude distribution model,or the conventional linear simulation *** study also demonstrated that the nonlinear simulation method is less effective than the novel simulation method in terms of efficiency.
