A number of cold seeps have been discovered in the northern South China Sea(SCS) including the Haiyang 4 cold-seep area where Core 973-5 was collected. Intact polar lipids(IPLs) and core lipids(CLs) were analyzed separately in sediments from Core 973-5. The most abundant lipid biomarkers were isoprenoidal GDGTs(iso GDGTs), with Crenarchaeol and GDGT-0 predominating. IPL-iso GDGTs and CL-iso GDGTs were mainly derived from Thaumarchaeota. IPL-iso GDGTs were mainly produced and retained in situ thus containing most of the in situ microbiological information. Branched GDGTs were predominantly derived from generated in marine production, and mixed with some terrestrial inputs. All IPLs groups presented a high value in the sulfate-methane transition zone(SMTZ). Furthermore, IPL and CL-MI, IPL-R;showed the highest values within the SMTZ, while IPL and CL-R;had the lowest values at the SMTZ, suggesting that the contribution of Methanophila and methanogenic to GDGTs increased, while the contribution of ammonia-oxidizing Archaea to GDGTs decreased at the SMTZ.

The reductive amination of furfural to furfurylamine is an important and still challenging topic in the field of biomass conversion. In this work, we prepared a series of Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)-LaO_(x) catalysts by co-precipitation method, the role of La played in promoting the catalytic performances of reductive amination furfural was discussed based on the changes in the electronic state of Ni species, acidity, and Ni particle size. The catalytic activity and the selectivity of furfurylamine are highly dependent on the surface properties and the structure of the catalyst. The addition of La promoted the amount of strong acidic sites and the H2dissociation and spillover on the surface, thus inducing the improvement of the catalytic activity and furfurylamine selectivity. The Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)-0.5LaO_(x)catalyst with suitable acid sites gave a high yield of furfurylamine (94.9%) under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, the catalyst could be recycled five times without significant loss in activity. The Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)-LaO_(x) catalyst is of great promise in the production of amines via reductive amination reaction.

Secretory pore-forming proteins(PFPs) have been identified in organisms from all kingdoms of life. Our studies with the toad species Bombina maxima found an interaction network among aerolysin family PFPs(af-PFPs) and trefoil factors(TFFs). As a toad af-PFP, Bm ALP1 can be reversibly regulated between active and inactive forms, with its paralog Bm ALP3 acting as a negative regulator. Bm ALP1 interacts with Bm TFF3 to form a cellular active complex called βγ-CAT. This PFP complex is characterized by acting on endocytic pathways and forming pores on endolysosomes, including stimulating cell macropinocytosis. In addition, cell exocytosis can be induced and/or modulated in the presence of βγ-CAT. Depending on cell contexts and surroundings, these effects can facilitate the toad in material uptake and vesicular transport, while maintaining mucosal barrier function as well as immune defense. Based on experimental evidence,we hereby propose a secretory endolysosome channel(SELC) pathway conducted by a secreted PFP in cell endocytic and exocytic systems, with βγ-CAT being the first example of a SELC protein. With essential roles in cell interactions and environmental adaptations, the proposed SELC protein pathway should be conserved in other living organisms.

Distribution of modified Circumpolar Deep Water and its threat in Vincennes Bay,East Antarctica

The Antarctic Bottom Water formation site Vincennes Bay,East Antarctica is experiencing a substantial intrusion of modified Circumpolar Deep Water(mCDW),which may inhibit the formation of Dense Shelf Water(DSW)and drive basal melting of the ice *** on hydrographic data obtained from March to November in 2012,we evaluated the spatial spread of mCDW over the continental shelf region of Vincennes Bay and the associated temporal evolution of water properties,as well as the sea ice formation effect on water column in the coastal *** show that two branches of mCDW occupied the deep layers of the continental shelf,distinguished by the potential density(smaller than 27.8 kg/m^(3) or not)when potential temperatureθ=0.5°C in theθ-salinity *** warmer and less dense branch observed on the east plateau,accessed the eastern ice shelves in the coastal polynya to drive basal melting of ice *** contrast,the other colder and denser branch in the mid-depression reached the western Underwood Ice *** formation was detectable in the coastal polynya during September-November,proving the occurrence of deep *** heat loss and brine rejection during the intensive sea ice formation contributed to the destratification of the water column in the coastal *** was estimated that at least 1.11±0.79 TW heat carried by mCDW into the inner part of the polynya.

This paper investigates the power allocation problem in non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)integrated unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)communication *** particular,we propose a novel resource allocation scheme to increase the transmission rate of the users that have relatively worse channel state information,while reducing the sum rate *** solve this problem efficiently,we decouple the optimization problem into three ***,we solve the problem of user pairing and subchannel ***,the optimum power proportional factor is derived to allocate transmit power among different users on the same *** last,different subchannels are allocated with appropriate power to improve the performance of the *** results show that the proposed scheme can enjoy a better performance than the benchmark methods since it can achieve a proper trade-off between the system sum rate and the proportional fairness.

A driver’s daily commute involves making three types of decisions:choice of departure time,route choice and mode *** objective of this paper was to investigate potential impacts of implementing variable congestion charging on driver's daily commute ***,this study focused on the departure time and route choice process and investigated Random Parameter Nested Logit model(RPNL)for the combined departure time and route *** R was used for stated choice experiment design,while software BIOGEME was used for model estimation based on the collected *** with the basic Multinomial Logit model(MNL),the estimation results indicated that Random Parameter Nested Logit model(RPNL)improved the model performance,due to considering inter-alternative correlations as well as commuters’*** combined choice models were utilized to present commuters’trade-offs among commute time,monetary cost and schedule *** results showed that under the situation without flexible work patterns,the disutility of late arrival and early departure were high,which resulted in less attractiveness for commuters to switch their departure time and further weaken the performance of implementing congestion ***,in order to enhance the performance of a congestion charging policy for relieving traffic congestion in a community,elastic work patterns as well as other complimentary measures should be introduced in parallel.

Background:Despite the importance of root decomposition in predicting ecosystem responses to future climate change,the effects of branch order on root decomposition and the feedback to soil still remains poorly *** we separated root samples taken from two tree species(Castanopsis fargesii and Schima superba in subtropical forests along the coastal area in eastern China)into four-order classes(1st–2nd order,3rd order,4th order,and 5th order)and conducted a 540-day litterbag incubation experiment in laboratory to examine root mass loss,nutrient release,and the influence on soil during ***:*** roots of 1st–2nd and 3rd order decayed more slowly than those of 4th and 5th order,but this pattern was not significant for *** all the measured root traits,the decomposition rates correlated best with root C/N ratio,diameter and specific root length(SRL)based on the structural equation *** tree species and root order exhibited significantly effects on root initial ***,*** roots decay faster than ***,and this appears to be associated with root initial C quality and N *** addition,root order positively affected root decomposition rates mainly through root diameter and ***,no significant difference was found in C and N content between soils below the litterbag with different-order ***:Our findings suggest the effects of branch order on root decomposition are dependent on tree ***,root morphological properties might also be the controlling factor in root decay besides root chemistry ***,the integrative effects should be considered to improve our understanding of the fate of fine-root litter and their contribution to soil C and N pool.
