Aiming at the process of smelting ultra-high(>80%)or even full vanadium titanomagnetite in blast furnace,we are conducting a series of works on physics character of high TiO_(2) bearing blast furnace slag(BFS)for slag optimization.This work discussed the density and surface tension of high TiO_(2) bearing BFS using the Archimedean principle and the maximum bubble pressure method,respectively.The influence of TiO_(2) content and the MgO/CaO mass ratio on the density and surface tension of CaO-SiO_(2)-TiO_(2)-MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)slags were investigated Results indicated that the density of slags decreased with the TiO_(2) content increasing from 20wt%to 30wt%,but it increased slightly with the MgO/CaO mass ratio increasing from 0.32 to 0.73.In view of silicate network structure,the density and the degree of polymerization(DOP)of network structure have a consistent trend.The addition of TiO_(2) reduced(Q^(3))^(2)/(Q^(2)) ratio(Q^(2) and Q^(3) represent structural unit with bridge oxygen number of 2 and 3,respectively)and then decreased DOP,which led to the decrease of slag density.The surface tension of CaO-SiO_(2)-TiO_(2)-MgO-Al_(2)O_(3) slags decreased dramatically with the TiO_(2) content increasing from 20wt%to 30wt%.Conversely,it increased with the MgO/CaO mass ratio increasing from 0.32 to 0.73.Furthermore,the iso-surface tension lines were obtained under 1723 K using the Tanaka developed model in view of Butler formula.It may be useful for slag optimization of ultra-high proportion(>80%)or even full vanadium titanomagnetite under BF smelting.

DNA-based biosensors have played a huge role in many areas,especially in current global coronavirus outbreak.However,there is a great difficulty in the characterization of piezoelectric and flexoelectric coefficients of the nanoscale DNA film,because the existing experimental methods for hard materials are almost invalid.In addition,the relevant theoretical models for DNA films only consider a single effect without clarifying the difference between the two electromechanical effects on device detection signals.This work aims to present multiscale models for DNA-microcantilever experiments to clarify the competitive mechanism in piezoelectric and flexoelectric effects of DNA films on detection signals.First,a Poisson-Boltzmann(PB)equation is used to predict the potential distribution due to the competition between fixed phosphate groups and mobile salt ions in DNA films.Second,a macroscopic piezoelectric/flexoelectric constitutive equation of the DNA film and a mesoscopic free energy model of the DNA solution are combined to analytically predict the electromechanical coefficients of the DNA film and the relevant microcantilever signals by the deformation equivalent method and Zhang’s two-variable method.Finally,the effects of detection conditions on microscopic interactions,electromechanical coupling coefficients,and deflection signals are studied.Numerical results not only agree well with the experimental observations,but also reveal that the piezoelectric and flexoelectric effects of the DNA film should be equivalently modeled when interpreting microcantilever detection signals.These insights might provide opportunities for the microcantilever biosensor with high sensitivity.

We sought to examine the regulatory effect of Meteorin-β(Metrnβ)/Meteorin like(Metrnl)/IL-41 on lung inflammation in allergic asthma.We found that Metrnβwas elevated significantly in asthmatic patients and in mice with allergic asthma induced by house dust mite(HDM)extract.Upon exposure to HDM,Metrnβwas secreted predominantly by airway epithelial cells and inflammatory cells,including macrophages and eosinophils.The increased Metrnβeffectively blocked the development of airway hyperreactivity(AHR)and decreased inflammatory cell airway infiltration and type 2 cytokine production,which was associated with downregulated DC-mediated adaptive immune responses.Moreover,Metrnβimpaired the maturation and function of bone marrow-derived dendritic cells in vitro.Asthmatic mice adoptively transferred with dendritic cells isolated from Metrnβ-treated allergic mice displayed decreased AHR,airway inflammation,and lung injury.Metrnβalso displayed anti-inflammatory properties in immunodeficient SCID mice with allergic asthma and in in vitro 3D ALI airway models.Moreover,blockade of Metrnβby anti-Metrnβantibody treatment promoted the development of allergic asthma.These results revealed the unappreciated protective roles of Metrnβin alleviating DC-mediated Th2 inflammation in allergic asthma,providing the novel treatment strategy of therapeutic targeting of Metrnβin allergic asthma.

Iconic memory and short-term memory are not only crucial for perception and cognition,but also of great importance to mental health.Here,we first showed that both types of memory could be improved by improving limiting processes in visual processing through perceptual learning.Normal adults were trained in a contrast detection task for ten days,with their higher-order aberrations(HOA)corrected in real-time.We found that the training improved not only their contrast sensitivity function(CSF),but also their iconic memory and baseline information maintenance for short-term memory,and the relationship between memory and CSF improvements could be well-predicted by an observer model.These results suggest that training the limiting component of a cognitive task with visual perceptual learning could improve visual cognition.They may also provide an empirical foundation for new therapies to treat people with poor sensory memory.

Xanthomonas spp. cause severe bacterial diseases. However, effective strategies for prevention and management of these diseases are scarce. Thus, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of control of diseases caused by Xanthomonas. In this study, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae(Xoo), which causes rice bacterial leaf blight, has been studied as a representative. A transposon insertion library of Xoo, comprising approximately 200,000 individual insertion mutants, was generated. Transposon sequencing data indicated that the mariner C9 transposase mapped at 35.7–36.4% of all potential insertion sites, revealing 491 essential genes required for the growth of Xoo in rich media. The results show that, compared to the functions of essential genes of other bacteria, the functions of some essential genes of Xoo are unknown, 25 genes might be dangerous for the Xanthomonas group, and 3 are specific to Xanthomonas. High-priority candidates for developing broad-spectrum, Xanthomonas-specific, and environment-friendly bactericides were identified in this study. In addition, this study revealed the possible targets of dioctyldiethylenetriamine using surface plasmon resonance(SPR) in combination with high performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry(HPLC–MS). The study also provided references for the research of some certain bactericides with unknown anti-bacterial mode of action. In conclusion, this study urged a better understanding of Xanthomonas,provided meaningful data for the management of bacterial leaf blight, and disclosed selected targets of a novel bactericide.

Sterculia gum,the dry exudate of Sterculia versicolor and other members of the same genus,is used as a thickener and emulsifier in foods.It is generally considered safe as a food or drug,and its adverse reactions,such as Sterculia-induced liver injury,have never been reported.A 46-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with fatigue,nausea,abdominal distension,jaundice and a>16-fold increase in transaminase and bilirubin level.The patient had used Sterculia gum prior to the onset of her symptoms.Her symptoms and clinical indicators improved after treatment.The possibility of acute viral hepatitis,autoimmune hepatitis,and metabolic liver disease was excluded.After discharge from hospital,the patient had a severe liver injury again when re-exposed to Sterculia gum.And the Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method score was updated from 5 to 7,which was consistent with probable drug-induced liver injury.This is the first report of Sterculia-induced liver injury.Clinicians need to be aware of the potential hepatotoxicity of Sterculia.

Determining the Critical Fracture Stress of Al Dendrites near the Melting Point via Synchrotron X-ray Imaging

Dendrites are the most common microstructural features in the cast metals,significantly affecting the structure integrity and mechanical properties of the castings.In this study,the in situ synchrotron X-ray radiographic and tomographic imaging techniques were combined to evaluate the critical fracture stress of the growing dendrite tip during the solidification of an Al-15 wt%Cu alloy under an external electromagnetic force.Two dendritic 3D models have been proposed to simulate the dendrite 3D morphologic characteristics and thus revealed that the critical fracture stresses of the Al dendrites at temperatures close to its melting point were in the range of 0.5 kPa–0.05 MPa.The present results demonstrate the feasibility of measuring the high-temperature mechanical properties of the metallic dendrites.

Electromagnetic (EM) wave pollution causing damage to precision equipment and threatening thehealth of living organisms has attracted considerable attention. Herein, promising microcellular foamedpolyamide 6 (PA6)/carbon nanotube (CNT) composites for highly efficient EM wave absorption were successfully fabricated using supercritical CO_(2) foaming. Nanocomposites foams with a void fraction rangingfrom 38.7% to 85.1% were achieved, providing a platform to assess the correlation of the electrical conductivity, the dielectric permittivity and the EM wave absorption properties with porosity. Notably, theFoam-257.5C sample with a void fraction of 38.7% exhibited outstanding EM wave absorption characteristics at a thickness of only 1.59 mm and an ultra-low reflection loss value of -55.3 dB (99.9997% wave absorption). Most importantly, the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of the Foam-257.5C sample couldcover the entire Ku band (12.4–18 GHz) by slightly adjusting the thickness from 1.20 to 1.60 mm. Thesuperior EM wave absorption performance of the Foam-257.5C sample was attributed to multiple reflections and scattering at the solid-gas interfaces, favorable impedance matching due to the existence ofa large polymer-air interface area, conductive loss near the interfaces and interfacial polarization. Thus,this study offers an eco-friendly, simple and versatile methodology to develop high-efficiency, flexiblepolymer-based EM wave absorbents.
