Rapid reduction of air pollution and short-term exposure risks in China

With the continuous control of anthropogenic emissions,China’s air quality has improved significantly in recent *** this background,research on how the short-term exposure risks caused by air pollution in China have changed is *** study utilized hourly concentration data from ground observation stations and the official air quality guidelines of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and the World Health Organization as standards to systematically investigate the spatiotemporal characteristics and short-term exposure risks of air pollution in China from 2015 to *** results indicate that various atmospheric pollutants except for ozone showed a decreasing trend ***,both single pollutant air pollution days(SAPDs)and multiple pollutant air pollution days(MAPDs)showed varying degrees of reduction within 15 and 25 days,*** was dominated mainly by excessive PM_(2.5)and PM_(10)pollutants,while MAPD was dominated mainly by excessive pollutant combinations,including PM_(2.5)+PM_(10),CO+PM_(2.5)+PM_(10),and SO_(2)+PM_(2.5)+PM_(10).As the concentration of atmospheric pollutants decreased,the total excess risk(ER)decreased yearly from 2015 to 2022,but there were significant regional ***,the ER is less than 0.25%in southern China,in the range of 0.25%-0.5%in the North China Plain and some cities in the northeast,and higher than 1%in the *** matter is currently the primary pollutant posing short-term exposure risk in China,especially due to the impact of sandstorm *** study indicates that China’s atmospheric cleaning action is significantly beneficial for reducing health risks.

MetaCoorNet: an improved generated residual network for grasping pose estimation

Robotic grasping presents significant challenges due to variations in object properties, environmental complexities,and the demand for real-time operation. This study proposes the MetaCoorNet(MCN), which is a novel deep learning architecture specifically designed to address these challenges in robotic grasping pose estimation. By combining spatial and channel operators, the MetaCoor block is utilized to extract features efficiently. This architecture enhances feature selectivity by embedding location information into channel attention using a positional embedding technique within the coordinate attention mechanism. Consequently, the proposed MCN can focus on pertinent grasp-related regions. Furthermore, convolutional fusion blocks seamlessly integrate spatial and channel features, resulting in enhanced feature resolution and representation *** innovative design enables the proposed MCN to achieve state-of-the-art performance on the Cornell and Jacquard datasets,attaining accuracies of 98% and 91.2%, respectively. The effectiveness and robustness of MCN are further validated through real-world experiments conducted using a seven-degree-of-freedom Kinova manipulator.

The process of riming significantly impacts the microphysical characteristics of *** study uses aircraft and radar observation data in stratiform clouds with convection embedded that occurred in the central and southern regions of North China on 22 May *** microphysical structural characteristics and processes near the embedded convection core and in the stratiform cloud are analyzed *** attention is given to the effect of riming on the microphysical properties near the upper boundary of the melting layer and to the factors influencing riming *** collaborative observations reveal that the particle size distributions observed near the convection core and in the stratiform region are close,while the particle properties like habit and riming degree are quite *** the melting layer,larger plate-like ice particles and supercooled water droplets(D>50μm)are more abundant near the convective core,leading to higher collision efficiencies between ice particles and supercooled water *** fluctuation amplitudes of vertical airflow near the convective core also contribute to the increased riming activity and the formation of more heavily rimed particles,such as ***,in situ measurements from airborne probes also revealed that above the melting layer,the riming process involves two stages:the mass of snow crystals grows as supercooled droplets merge internally without changing size,followed by external freezing that significantly enlarges the crystals.

Effect of add-on therapy with Traditional Chinese Medicine on the survival of patients with anemic lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes in the real-world setting:a retrospective study

OBJECTIVE: To illustrate the effect of add-on therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) on the long-term survival of anemic lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes(LR-MDS) patients. METHODS: In this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis of the data of patients with LR-MDS who were identified from Shuguang Hospital between January 2006 and June 2020. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate overall survival(OS), while the Cox model was employed to analyze prognostic factors of long-term survival. A total of 162 patients who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: the TCM group(n = 78) or the non-TCM group(n = 84). RESULTS: There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics. The cumulative survival rate of the TCM group was significantly higher than that of the non-TCM group [log-rank P = 0.029, hazard ratio(HR) = 0.484, 95% confidence interval(CI)(0.249, 0.942), P 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The integration of TCM and Western Medicine has the potential to extend the OS of LR-MDS patients when compared to the use of Western Medicine alone.

Boosting singlet oxygen generation for salinity wastewater treatment through co-activation of oxygen and peroxymonosulfate in photoelectrochemical process

High concentrations of inorganic ions in saline wastewater pose adverse effects on hydroxyl radical (HO' )dominated technologies. Here, we report a unique strategy for boosting singlet oxygen (1 O2 ) generation via coactivation of oxygen and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by regulating the electron transfer regime in the photoelectrochemical process. The Fe-N bridge in atomic Fe-modified graphitic carbon nitride (denoted SA-FeCN) favors the construction of electron-defective Fe and electron-rich N vacancies (Nvs) to accelerate directional electron transfer. The produced intermediate (HSO4-O center dot center dot center dot Fe- Nvs center dot center dot center dot O-O) as a chemical channel accelerates the directional electron transfer from PMS to further reduce O2 to form activated products (SO5'-, O2'-), thereby transforming O2 into 1 O2 . An optimized 1 O2 generation rate of 39.4 mu mol L-1s- 1 is obtained, which is 15.7-945.0 times higher than that in traditional advanced oxidation processes. Fast kinetics are achieved for removing various phenolic pollutants in a nonradical oxidation pathway, which is less susceptible to the coexistence of natural organic matter and inorganic ions. The COD removal for coal wastewater and complex industrial wastewater in real scenarios is found to reach a value of 90%-96% in 3 h. This work provides a new direction for boosting the 1 O2 generation rate, especially for the selective degradation of target electron-rich contaminants in saline wastewater.

Relative humidity-dependent evolution of molecular composition ofα-pinene secondary organic aerosol upon heterogeneous oxidation by hydroxyl radicals

Heterogeneous oxidation by gas-phase oxidants is an important chemical transformation pathway of secondary organic aerosol(SOA)and plays an important role in controlling the abundance,properties,as well as climate and health impacts of ***,our knowledge on this heterogeneous chemistry remains *** this study,the heterogeneous oxidation ofα-pinene ozonolysis SOA by hydroxyl(OH)radicals was investigated under both low and high relative humidity(RH)conditions,with an emphasis on the evolution of molecular composition of SOA and its RH *** is found that the heterogeneous oxidation of SOA at an OH exposure level equivalent to 12 hr of atmospheric aging leads to particle mass loss of 60%at 25%RH and 95%at 90%*** heterogeneous oxidation strongly changes the molecular composition of *** dimer-to-monomer signal ratios increase dramatically with rising OH exposure,in particular under high RH conditions,suggesting that aerosol water stimulates the reaction of monomers with OH radicals more than that of *** addition,the typical SOA tracer compounds such as pinic acid,pinonic acid,hydroxy pinonic acid and dimer esters(e.g.,C17H26O8 and C19H28O7)have lifetimes of several hours against heterogeneous OH oxidation under typical atmospheric conditions,which highlights the need for the consideration of their heterogeneous loss in the estimation of monoterpene SOA concentrations using tracer-based *** study sheds lights on the heterogeneous oxidation chemistry ofmonoterpene SOA andwould help to understand their evolution and impacts in the atmosphere.

Optimization of transverse unidirectional scattering by morphology modification of irregular V-shaped silicon nanoantennas

A scheme based on irregular V-shaped silicon nanoantennas is proposed to optimize transverse unidirectional scattering under plane wave irradiation. Traditional methods of designing regular shapes offer fewer parameters and higher search efficiency. However, due to the limitations of regular shapes, it is challenging to meet high-precision design requirements. Irregular shape design allows for a broader range of adjustments, but the complexity of shape parameters leads to lower search efficiency and a higher likelihood of converging to local optima.

Tensor Decomposition-assisted Multiview Subgroup Analysis

To learn the subgroup structure generated by multidimensional interaction, we propose a novel multiview subgroup integration technique based on tensor decomposition. Compared to the traditional subgroup analysis that can only handle single-view heterogeneity, our proposed method achieves a greater level of homogeneity within the subgroups, leading to enhanced interpretability and predictive power. For computational readiness of the proposed method, we build an algorithm that incorporates pairwise shrinkage-encouraging penalties and ADMM techniques. Theoretically, we establish the asymptotic consistency and normality of the proposed estimators. Extensive simulation studies and real data analysis demonstrate that our proposal outperforms other methods in terms of prediction accuracy and grouping consistency. In addition, the analysis based on the proposed method indicates that intergenerational care significantly increases the risk of chronic diseases associated with diet and fatigue in all provinces while only reducing the risk of emotion-related chronic diseases in the eastern coastal and central regions of China.
