Numerical investigation of film forming characteristics and mass transfer enhancement in horizontal polycondensation kettle

The process of producing high viscosity polyester by transesterification polycondensation needs to adjust the operating conditions and equipment structure of pre-polycondensation kettle and final polycondensation kettle to realize process intensification.In view of this,the fluid volume function method of computational fluid dynamics numerical simulation was used to investigate the film formation and surface renewal characteristics of horizontal polycondensation kettle under different operating conditions,including viscosity,rotating speed and liquid height.The results show that the viscosity and rotating speed were positively correlated with the film area and surface renewal in the pre-polycondensation stage.However,increasing the viscosity by several orders of magnitude in the final polycondensation kettle,the larger the film area and film thickness,but the overall surface renewal of the disk decreased.Therefore,a hexagonal hole disk is designed.By comparison,it is found that the film is more uniform,the surface update frequency is higher,and the power consumption can be reduced by more than 20%.

Fine-tuning of the coordination environment of single-atom catalysts(SACs)is effective to optimize their catalytic performances,yet it remains challenging due to the vulnerability of SACs.Herein,we report a new approach to engineering the coordination environment of M-N-C(M=Fe,Co,and Ni)SACs by using glutamic acid as the N/C source and pyrolysis atmosphere as a regulator.Compared with that in N2,NH3 was able to promote the doping of N at 7<700℃yet etch the N-species at higher temperatures,by which the M-N coordination number(CN)and the electronic structure were delicately tuned.It was found that the electron density of Ni single atoms increased with the decrease of Ni-N CN.As a consequence,the capability of Ni-N-C to dissociate H2 was greatly enhanced and a higher catalytic activity in chemoselective hydrogenation of functionalized nitroarenes was achieved.Moreover,this modulation method could be applied to other transition metals including Fe and Co.In particular,the as-synthesized Co-N-C SAC afforded a turnover frequency of 152.3 h~1 with 99%selectivity to 3-vinylaniline in the hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene,which was the highest ever reported thus far and was at least one order of magnitude more active than state-of-the-art noble-metal-free M-N-C catalysts,demonstrating the great potential of engineering the coordination environment of SACs.

Solubility of the silver nitrate in the supercritical carbon dioxide containing ethanol and ethylene glycol as double cosolvents was measured under certain pressure and temperature range(10–25 MPa, 323.15–333.15 K). The impact of the pressure and temperature on the solubility was also investigated. Based on the experiment data,a correlation model concerning solid's solubility in supercritical fluids was established by combining the solubility parameter with the thermodynamic equation when a binary interaction parameter and a mixed solvent solubility parameter were defined. Experiments show the solubility of AgNO_3 increases with the pressure at a certain temperature. However, the influence of temperature is related to a pressure defined as the turnover pressure(12.3 MPa). When the pressure is higher(or lower) than this turnover pressure, silver nitrate's solubility shows increasing(or decreasing) trend as the temperature rises. Satisfactory accuracy of our presented model was revealed by comparing experimental data with calculated results.

In order to optimize the design of the submerged combustion vaporizer(SCV), an experimental apparatus was set up to investigate the heat transfer character outside the tube bundle in SCV. Several experiments were conducted using water and CO_2 as the heat transfer media in the tubes, respectively. The results indicated that hot air flux, the initial liquid level height and the tube pitch ratio had great influence on the heat transfer coefficient outside the tube bundle(ho). Finally, the air flux associated factor β and height associated factor γ were introduced to propose a new hocorrelation. After verified by experiments using cold water, high pressure CO_2 and liquid N_2 as heat transfer media, respectively, it was found that the biggest deviation between the predicted and the experimental values was less than 25%.

Supercritical carbon dioxide microemulsions are great medium to combine two immiscible substances through forming nanoscale polar cores in nonpolar continuous phase with the help of proper surfactants. The properties of microemulsions could be significantly affected by their constituents and structures. In this work, molecular dynamics simulation was implemented to study supercritical carbon dioxide microemulsions containing ionic liquid [bmim][PF6] and water by adding surfactant Ls-36. Results showed that the above components could form spherical aggregates in CO2 bulk phase with [bmim][PF6] and some water as the inner core, surfactant headgroups and water as the intermediate shell, and surfactant tails as the outer shell. The microstructure information about the outer shell was further investigated by defining an angle between the surfactant tail and the normal direction of the aggregate outer surface, which ranged from 78° to 125°. The influence of the ionic liquid content on the size and structure of microemulsions was explored and the best molar ratio between the ionic liquid and surfactant was around 1.25 for getting maximum water solubility.

The established and ongoing prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and seasonal human coronaviruses(HCoV)like HCoV-OC43,HCoV-NL63,and HCoV-229E,pose a continuous threat to public health.Therefore,it is urgently needed to explore antiviral drugs with broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus activity.Our previous studies have revealed that lycorine is a potent broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus drug,a natural alkaloid extracted from Amaryllidaceae with various pharmacological and microbiological effects.However,it is unsafe to directly use lycorine as a clinical antiviral drug due to the cytotoxicity and induction of cell apoptosis.In this study,a series of lycorine derivatives were designed and synthesized.One of them,named Ly-8,was found to effectively inhibit the replication of different coronavirus strains in vitro,including SARS-CoV-2.Moreover,Ly-8 was also shown to effectively inhibit HCoVOC43 replication in the central nervous system,and provide effective protection against HCoV-OC43 infection in mice with low drug toxicity.Furthermore,Ly-8-resistant mutants were not observed during the 30 times sequential passages in cell culture.Collectively,these findings suggest that Ly-8 may be a potential candidate drug for the future development of broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus drugs.

Reorganization characteristics of speech cortex during speech restoration following total laryngectomy A functional magnetic resonance imaging follow-up

During speech restoration following laryngectomy, language-related cortical areas develop connections with new primary motor neurons. The present study followed up 18 patients after total resection of laryngeal carcinoma. According to an evaluation of pronunciation, patients were assigned to three groups： poor, moderate and good pronunciation. Functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed significant increases in the number of activated voxels and the intensity of activation changes in the left middle frontal gyrus, left precentral gyrus, left postcentral gyrus, left supplementary motor area, left anterior cingulate gyrus and right fusiform gyrus between the moderate pronunciation group compared with the poor and good pronunciation groups. We propose that these brain regions play an important role in the progress of speech restoration, and improvements in pronunciation learning for patients following laryngectomy. However, during the later period of speech restoration, the number of activated voxels and intensity changes in these regions decreased to the level of healthy controls, indicating that the learning and instruction effects weakened once patients had mastered pronunciation techniques

Probe Machine Based Computing Model for Maximum Clique Problem

Probe machine(PM) is a recently reported mathematic model with massive parallelism. Herein,we presented searching the maximum clique of an undirected graph with six vertices. We constructed data library containing n sublibraries, each sublibrary corresponded to a vertex in the given graph. Then, probe library according to the induced subgraph was designed in order to search and generate all maximal cliques. Subsequently,we performed probe operation, and all maximal cliques were generated in parallel. The advantages of the proposed model lie in two aspects. On one hand, solution to NP-complete problem is generated in just one step of probe operation rather than found in vast solution space.On the other hand, the proposed model is highly parallel.The work demonstrates that PM is superior to TM in terms of searching capacity when tackling NP-complete problem.
