The superiority of nonconjugated structures in fluorescence:through-space vs. through-bond charge transfer

Constructing charge transfer（CT） state by introducing donor（D） and acceptor（A） is an efficient strategy to regulate the photophysical properties of luminescent materials. Traditional CT-type luminophores are built on π-conjugated fused-ring structures, which always show hybrid CT/locally excited（LE） states and luminescence quenching effect in the aggregate state. In this work, eight conjugated biphenyl（BP） and nonconjugated diphenylmethane（DPM） derivatives with different donors and acceptors are synthesized to investigate the CT properties. Systematic photophysical characterization and theoretical calculation demonstrate that the through-space CT（TSCT） in nonconjugated DA-DPM exhibit superior photophysical performance than the conjugated DA-BP with through-bond CT（TBCT）, the main manifestations are as follows:（1） TSCT luminophores produce longer maximum emission wavelength(λem) than the corresponding TBCT ones. For example, the longest λemof DMA-CN-DPM（DMA, dimethylamino） is 621 nm but the corresponding λemof DMA-CN-BP is only 480 nm.（2） TSCT-based DA-DPM demonstrates more sensitive responsiveness to environmental stimuli such as temperature and polarity.（3） Complete separation of the the highest occupied molecular orbital（HOMO） and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital（LUMO） distribution exists in all kinds of conformation of DA-DPM, which was hard to realize in conjugated DA-BP.

Recycling of waste aluminum scraps to fabricate sulfidated zero-valent iron-aluminum particles for enhanced chromate removal

Massive waste aluminum scraps produced from the spent aluminum products have high electron capacity and can be recycled as an attractive alternative to materials based on zerovalent iron(Fe^(0))for the removal of oxidative contaminants from wastewater.This study thus proposed an approach to fabricate micron-sized sulfidated zero-valent iron-aluminum particles(S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0))with high reactivity,electron selectivity and capacity using recycled waste aluminum scraps.S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0)with a three-layer structure contained zero-valent aluminum(Al^(0))core,Fe^(0) middle layer and iron sulfide(FeS)shell.The rates of chromate(Cr(Ⅵ))removal by S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0)at pH 5.0-9.0 were 1.6-5.9 times greater than that by sulfidated zero-valent iron(S-Fe^(0)).The Cr(Ⅵ)removal capacity of S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0)was 8.2-,11.3-and 46.9-fold greater than those of S-Fe0,zero-valent iron-aluminum(Al^(0)-Fe^(0))and Fe^(0),respectively.The chemical cost of S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0) for the equivalent Cr(Ⅵ)removal was 78.5%lower than that of S-Fe^(0).Negligible release of soluble aluminum during the Cr(Ⅵ)removal was observed.The significant enhancement in the reactivity and capacity of S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0)was partially ascribed to the higher reactivity and electron density of the Al0core than Fe^(0).More importantly,S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0) served as an electric cell to harness the persistent and selective electron transfer from the Al^(0)-Fe^(0) core to Cr(Ⅵ)at the surface via coupling Fe^(0)-Fe^(2+)-Fe^(3+)redox cycles,resulting in a higher electron utilization efficiency.Therefore,S-Al^(0)@Fe^(0) fabricated using recycled waste aluminum scraps can be a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternative to S-Fe^(0) for the enhanced removal of oxidative contaminants in industrial wastewater.

Wavelength division multiplexing(WDM)and space division multiplexing(SDM)based on few-mode fiber(FMF)and multi-core fiber(MCF)have been vigorously developed to increase the transmission capacity of optical communication networks[1–5].However,the mode crosstalk generated in the mode division multiplexing(MDM)system causes the correlation between different mode signals,which seriously damages the transmission performance.Therefore,an effective multiple-input-multiple-output(MIMO)time domain or frequency domain equalizer should be used to eliminate the crosstalk between different mode signals.

CsRAXs negatively regulate leaf size and fruiting ability through auxin glycosylation in cucumber

Leaves are the main photosynthesis organ that directly determines crop yield and biomass.Dissecting the regulatory mechanism of leaf development is crucial for food security and ecosystem turn-over.Here,we identified the novel function of R2R3-MYB transcription factors CsRAXs in regulating cucumber leaf size and fruiting ability.Csrax5 single mutant exhibited enlarged leaf size and stem diameter,and Csrax1/2/5 triple mutant displayed further enlargement phenotype.Overexpression of CsRAX1 or CsRAX5 gave rise to smaller leaf and thinner stem.The fruiting ability of Csrax1/2/5 plants was significantly enhanced,while that of CsRAX5 overexpression lines was greatly weakened.Similarly,cell number and free auxin level were elevated in mutant plants while decreased in overexpression lines.Biochemical data indicated that CsRAX1/5 directly promoted the expression of auxin glucosyltransferase gene CsUGT74E2.Therefore,our data suggested that CsRAXs function as repressors for leaf size development by promoting auxin glycosylation to decrease free auxin level and cell division in cucumber.Our findings provide new gene targets for cucumber breeding with increased leaf size and crop yield.

Room-temperature synthesis of full-component APbX_(3)perovskite nanocrystal inks for optoelectronic applications

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals(PNCs)have received great research interests due to their excellent optoelectronic properties.However,high temperature,inert gas protection and insulating long-chain ligands are used during the conventional hot-injection synthesis of PNCs,which limits their practical applications.In this work,we first develop a simple and scalable polar-solvent-free method for the preparation of full-component APbX_(3)(A=Cs,methylammonium(MA),formamidinium(FA),X=Cl,Br,I)PNCs under ambient condition.Through an exothermic reaction between butylamine(BA)and propionic acid(PA)short ligands,the PbX_(2) precursors could be well dissolved without use of any polar solvent.Meanwhile,the relatively lower growth rate of PNCs in our room-temperature reaction enables us to modulate the synthetic procedure to enhance the scalability(40-fold)and achieve large-scale synthesis.The resultant short ligands passivated PNC inks are compatible with varying solution depositing technique like spray coating for large-area film.Finally,we showcase that adopting the as-prepared MAPbI_(3) PNC inks,a self-powered photodetector is fabricated and shows a high photoresponsivity.These results demonstrate that our ambient-condition synthetic approach can accelerate the preparation of tunable and ready-to-use PNCs towards commercial optoelectronic applications.

Experimental Research on the Surface Quality of Milling Contour Bevel Gears

Contour bevel gears have the advantages of high coincidence,low noise and large bearing capacity,which are widely used in automobile manufacturing,shipbuilding and construction machinery.However,when the surface quality is poor,the effective contact area between the gear mating surfaces decreases,affecting the stability of the fit and thus the transmission accuracy,so it is of great significance to optimize the surface quality of the contour bevel gear.This paper firstly analyzes the formation process of machined surface roughness of contour bevel gears on the basis of generating machining method,and dry milling experiments of contour bevel gears are conducted to analyze the effects of cutting speed and feed rate on the machined surface roughness and surface topography of the workpiece.Then,the surface defects on the machined surface of the workpiece are studied by SEM,and the causes of the surface defects are analyzed by EDS.After that,XRD is used to compare the microscopic grains of the machined surface and the substrate material for diffraction peak analysis,and the effect of cutting parameters on the microhardness of the workpiece machined surface is investigated by work hardening experiment.The research results are of great significance for improving the machining accuracy of contour bevel gears,reducing friction losses and improving transmission efficiency.

Uncertainty evaluation for bearing fatigue property of CFRP double-lap,single-bolt joints

The considerable uncertainty in mechanical properties of composite bolted joints not only prevents advanced composite materials from efficient applications,but also threatens the safety and reliability of the aircraft structures.In this paper,the uncertainty in bearing fatigue properties of a CFRP double-lap,single-bolt joint was evaluated by combing a Progressive Fatigue Damage Model(PFDM)with the interval analysis method.In the PFDM,a residualstrain-based gradual material degradation model and a strain-based fatigue failure criterion were combined with a micromechanics-based sudden material degradation model to predict fatigue properties of the joint.Based on the interval analysis,the key uncertain parameters,which were firstly picked out from eighteen structural parameters of the joint,were described by estimated intervals,and the envelope cases were determined to estimate the lower and upper bounds of fatigue properties of the joint.The predicted results have the same tendency with the experimental results in literatures,which indicates that the PFDM combined with the interval analysis shows potential in efficiently evaluating the fatigue reliability of the complex bolted joints with an adequate accuracy.

White light,which contains polychromic visible components,affects the rhythm of organisms and has the potential for advanced applications of lighting,display,and communication.Compared with traditional incandescent bulbs and inorganic diodes,pure organic materials are superior in terms of better compatibility,flexibility,structural diversity,and environmental friendliness.In the past few years,polychromic emission has been obtained based on organic aggregates,which provides a platform to achieve white-light emission.Several white-light emitters are sporadically reported,but the underlying mechanistic picture is still not fully established.Based on these considerations,we will focus on the single-component and multicomponent strategies to achieve efficient white-light emission from pure organic aggregates.Thereinto,single-component strategy is introduced from four parts:dual fluorescence,fluorescence and phosphorescence,dual phosphorescence with anti-Kasha’s behavior,and clusteroluminescence.Meanwhile,doping,supramolecular assembly,and cocrystallization are summarized as strategies for multicomponent systems.Beyond the construction strategies of white-light emitters,their advanced representative applications,such as organic light-emitting diodes,white luminescent dyes,circularly polarized luminescence,and encryption,are also prospected.It is expected that this review will draw a comprehensive picture of white-light emission from organic aggregates as well as their emerging applications.

Investigation of energy-efficient heat pump assisted heterogeneous azeotropic distillation for separating of acetonitrile/ethyl acetate/n-hexane mixture

The conventional distillation is hard to accomplish the separation of acetonitrile/ethyl acetate/n-hexane mixture. Herein, a heterogeneous azeotropic distillation(HAD) without adding entrainer is proposed to separate ternary mixture. The proposed scheme is optimized via the simulated annealing algorithm and minimum total annual cost(TAC) is used as objective functions. To minimize energy consumption,heat pump is added on the basis of optimal heterogeneous azeotropic distillation and heat integration technology is used to further improve the energy recovery. The TAC, gas emission, energy consumption and exergy destruction are used to discuss the economy and environmental protection of processes.Among all the processes, the heat pump with higher preheating temperature(HPT) assisted HAD process by combining with heat integration(HAD-HPT-HI) has best performances on economic, environment,energy and exergy. Compared with conventional HAD process, the HAD-HPT-HI achieves the reductions of 52.17%, 68.86%, 65.87% and 65.46% on TAC, total energy consumption, gas emissions and exergy destruction, respectively.

ABAQUS and ANSYS Implementations of the Peridynamics-Based Finite Element Method(PeriFEM)for Brittle Fractures

In this study,we propose the first unified implementation strategy for peridynamics in commercial finite element method(FEM)software packages based on their application programming interface using the peridynamics-based finite element method(PeriFEM).Using ANSYS and ABAQUS as examples,we present the numerical results and implementation details of PeriFEM in commercial FEM software.PeriFEM is a reformulation of the traditional FEM for solving peridynamic equations numerically.It is considered that the non-local features of peridynamics yet possesses the same computational framework as the traditional FEM.Therefore,this implementation benefits from the consistent computational frameworks of both PeriFEM and the traditional FEM.An implicit algorithm is used for both ANSYS and ABAQUS;however,different convergence criteria are adopted owing to their unique features.In ANSYS,APDL enables users to conveniently obtain broken-bond information from UPFs;thus,the convergence criterion is chosen as no new broken bond.In ABAQUS,obtaining broken-bond information is not convenient for users;thus,the default convergence criterion is used in ABAQUS.The codes integrated into ANSYS and ABAQUS are both verified through benchmark examples,and the computational convergence and costs are compared.The results show that,for some specific examples,ABAQUS is more efficient,whereas the convergence criterion adopted in ANSYS is more robust.Finally,3D examples are presented to demonstrate the ability of the proposed approach to deal with complex engineering problems.
