Surface Structures and Their Relative Stabilities of Orthorhombic YAlO_(3):A First-Principles Study

First-principles energetics calculations were performed to investigate the structures and relative stabilities of six low millerindex surfaces of orthorhombic YAlO_(3) (YAP).The stoichiometric YAP (100) and (001) were predicted to have the lowest surface energies of 1.91 and 1.96 J/m ^(2),*** a thermodynamic defect model,non-stoichiometric YAP surface energies were further predicted as a function of P_(O2)(P_(O2)<1 atm) and temperature (T).All the results were combined to construct the surface phase diagrams at T=300 and 1400 K,revealing the strong correlation of the surface stabilities of YAP with its surface stoichiometry.

Spectrofluorimetric determination of trace amounts of cadmium with 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone benzoylhydrazone

A new fluorescent reagent 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone benzoylhydrazone （DHAPBH） was synthesized and its ionization constants were established spectrophotometrically. The fluorescent reaction of this reagent with cadmium was studied. The cadmium ion can form a stable binary chelate with DHAPBH, having a mole ratio of 1 ：2 in the pH range of 3.6-4.4. Based on this chelation reaction, a highly sensitive spectrofiuorimetric method was developed for determination of trace amounts of cadmium in a water-ethanol （7：3 in volume ratio） medium at pH = 4.0. Under these conditions, the Cd-DHAPBH complex has excitation and emission maxima at 306 and 437 nm, respectively. The linear range of the method is from 0.36 to 140μtg·L^-1 and the detection limit is 0.27 μtg·L^-1 of cadmium. Interferences of other ions were studied. The method was successfully applied to the determination of cadmium in mineral water, tap water, fiver water, and wastewater.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is recognized as a global health problem due to its increasing occurrence,challenging treatment,and persistent impacts on brain *** cell death in patients with TBI swiftly causes inflammation in the injured brain areas,which is recognized as focal brain *** brain inflammation causes secondary brain injury by exacerbating brain edema and neuronal death,while also exerting divergent beneficial effects,such as sealing the damaged limitans and removing cellular *** evidence from patients with TBI and studies on animal models suggest that brain inflammation after TBI is not only restricted to the focal lesion but also disseminates to remote areas of the *** dissemination of inflammation has been detected within days after the primary injury and persists *** state of inflammation may be related to remote complications of TBI in patients,such as hyperthermia and hypopituitarism,and may lead to progressive neurodegeneration,such as chronic traumatic *** studies should focus on understanding the mechanisms that govern the initiation and propagation of brain inflammation after TBI and its impacts on post-trauma brain pathology.

Traumatic brain injury （TBI） is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. The finding that cellular microparticles （MPs） generated by injured cells profoundly impact on pathological courses of TBI has paved the way for new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. MPs are subcellular fragments or organelles that serve as carriers of lipids, adhesive receptors, cytokines, nucleic acids, and tissue-degrading enzymes that are unique to the parental cells. Their sub-micron sizes allow MPs to travel to areas that parental cells are unable to reach to exercise diverse biological functions. In this review, we summarize recent developments in identifying a casual role of MPs in the pathologies of TBI and suggest that MPs serve as a new class of therapeutic targets for the prevention and treatment of TBI and associated systemic complications.

A major challenge is to construct ceramic membranes with tunable structures and functions for water ***,a novel corrosion-resistant polymer-derived silicon oxycarbide(SiOC)ceramic membrane with designed architectures was fabricated by a phase separation method and was applied in organic removal via adsorption and oxidation for the first *** pore structure of the as-prepared SiOC ceramic membranes was well controlled by changing the sintering temperature and polydimethylsiloxane content,leading to a pore size of 0.84–1.62μm and porosity of 25.0–43.8%.Corrosion resistance test results showed that the SiOC membranes sustained minimal damage during 24 h exposure to high-intensity acid–base conditions,which could be attributed to the chemical inertness of *** rhodamine 6G(R6G)as the model pollutant,the SiOC membrane demonstrated an initial eff ective removal rate of 99%via adsorption;however,the removal rate decreased as the system approached adsorption *** peroxymonosulfate was added into the system,efficient and continuous degradation of R6G was observed throughout the entire period,indicating the potential of the as-prepared SiOC membrane in oxidation-related ***,this work provides new insights into the construction of novel polymer-derived ceramic membranes with well-defined structures and functions.

MicroRNAs are implicated in the initiation and progression of gastric cancer

Treatment strategies for carotid artery penetrating injury:a case report and literature review

Background:The carotid artery is an important blood vessel in the human body. Its ruptures caused by accidents can be lethal cases without timely treatment. Currently, successful rescue cases have rarely been reported, hence we present the following *** presentation:A patient who was a 46-year-old male admitted due to left neck trauma that lasted almost a day. The CT angiography (CTA) of the neck showed two pseudoaneurysms:one on the anterior wall and one on the posterior wall of the carotid artery. In our case, we considered an open approach to reconstruct the carotid artery. After excision of the aneurysm, the internal carotid artery was stitched. Electrophysiological monitoring and shunt were used during the operation. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient remains free of ***:Many departments jointly and positive and effective surgical intervention are the key to reduce morbidity and mortality of carotid artery penetrating injury.
