Global Distribution of Thermosteric Contribution to Sea Level Rising Trend

The sea level derived from TOPEX/Poseidon(T/P) altimetry data shows prominent long term trend and inter-annual variability.The global mean sea level rising rate during 1993-2003 was 2.9 mm a-1.The T/P sea level trend maps the geographical variability.In the Northern Hemisphere(15°-64°N),the sea level rise is very fast at the mid-latitude(20°-40°N) but much slower at the high-latitude,for example,only 0.5 mm a-1 in the latitude band 40°-50°N.In the Southern Hemisphere,the sea level shows high rising rate both in mid-latitude and high-latitude areas,for example,5.1 mm a-1 in the band 40°-50°S.The global thermosteric sea level(TSL) derived from Ishii temperature data was rising during 1993-2003 at a rate of 1.2 mm a-1 and accounted for more than 40% of the global T/P sea level rise.The contributions of the TSL distribution are not spatially uniform;for instance,the percentage is 67% for the Northern Hemisphere and only 29% for the Southern Hemisphere(15°-64°S) and the maximum thermosteric contribution appears in the Pacific Ocean,which contributes more than 60% of the global TSL.The sea level change trend in tropical ocean is mainly caused by the thermosteric effect,which is different from the case of seasonal variability in this area.The TSL variability dominates the T/P sea level rise in the North Atlantic,but it is small in other areas,and shows negative trend at the high-latitude area(40°-60°N,and 50°-60°S).The global TSL during 1945-2003 showed obvious rising trend with the rate of about 0.3 mm a-1 and striking inter-annual and decadal variability with period of 20 years.In the past 60 years,the Atlantic TSL was rising continuously and remarkably,contributing 38% to the global TSL rising.The TSL in the Pacific and Indian Ocean rose with significant inter-annual and decadal variability.The first EOF mode of the global TSL from Ishii temperature data was the ENSO mode in which the time series of the first mode showed steady rising trend.Among the three oceans,the first mode of the Pacific TSL presented the ENSO m

Fullerenol-containing Materials Derived by Sol-gel Processing

Water soluble fullerenols were synthesized and incorporated in SiO2, SiO2-TiO2, GPTMS-SiO2, GPTMS-ATPS inorganic and organic-inorganic materials by sol-gel processes. The maximum concentrations of C60(OH)n and C70(OH)n in the obtained SiO2 gels were estimated to be about 0.6% and 1.5% in weight, respectively. The characteristics of the UV/visible spectra of fullerenols in H2O and various gels were measured and compared. The thermal stability of fullerenols in gels was investigated with differential thermal analysis (DTA). The results indicate that the absorption features of fullerenols in solid gels are similar to those in H2O and the fullerenols in SiO2 are stable at 400℃. The optical limiting effect of the fullerenols was investigated preliminarily.

Although the 5G wireless network has made significant advances,it is not enough to accommodate the rapidly rising requirement for broader bandwidth in post-5G and 6G eras.As a result,emerging technologies in higher frequencies including visible light communication(VLC),are becoming a hot topic.In particular,LED-based VLC is foreseen as a key enabler for achieving data rates at the Tb/s level in indoor scenarios using multi-color LED arrays with wavelength division multiplexing(WDM)technology.This paper proposes an optimized multi-color LED array chip for high-speed VLC systems.Its long-wavelength GaN-based LED units are remarkably enhanced by V-pit structure in their efficiency,especially in the“yellow gap”region,and it achieves significant improvement in data rate compared with earlier research.This work investigates the V-pit structure and tries to provide insight by introducing a new equivalent circuit model,which provides an explanation of the simulation and experiment results.In the final test using a laboratory communication system,the data rates of eight channels from short to long wavelength are 3.91 Gb/s,3.77 Gb/s,3.67 Gb/s,4.40 Gb/s,3.78 Gb/s,3.18 Gb/s,4.31 Gb/s,and 4.35 Gb/s(31.38 Gb/s in total),with advanced digital signal processing(DSP)techniques including digital equalization technique and bit-power loading discrete multitone(DMT)modulation format.

Study on methane selective catalytic reduction of NO on Pt/Ce_(0.67)Zr_(0.33)O_2 and its application

Monolithic catalysts of Pt/La-Al2O3 and Pt/Ce0.67Zr0.3302 were prepared to investigate methane selective catalytic reduction （SCR） of NO. The results indicate that Pt/Ce0.67Zr0.33O2 shows high activity and both NO and CH4 can be converted completely at 450℃. Meanwhile, NO and CH4 can be converted completely when there exists excess oxygen. The Pt/Ce0.67Zr0.33O2 catalyst were further investigated by using methane as reducing agent to SCR NO in a novel equipment which combined the CH4 selective catalytic reduction of NO with methane combustion. The result shows that the catalyst is high active and the novel equipment is very effective. The conversion of NO is above 92% under the conditions used in this work. The prepared burner and catalysts have great potential for application.

Variation and heritability of morphological and physiological traits among Leymus chinensis genotypes under different environmental conditions

Intraspecific trait variation and heritability in different environmental conditions not only suggest a potential for an evolutionary response but also have important ecological consequences at the population, community, and ecosystem levels. However, the contribution of quantitative trait variation within a grassland species to evolutionary responses or ecological consequences is seldom documented. Leymus chinensis is an important dominant species in semi-arid grasslands of China, which has seriously suffered from drought and high temperature stresses in recent decades. In the present study, we measured variation and heritability of 10 quantitative traits, namely the number of tillers, maximum shoot height, number of rhizomes, maximum rhizome length, rhizome mass, aboveground mass, root mass, maximum net photosynthetic rate(Pmax), specific leaf area(SLA), and leaf length to leaf width ratio(LL/LW), for 10 genotypes of L. chinensis under one non-stress(Ck) condition and three environmental stress conditions(i.e., drought(Dr), high temperature(Ht), and both drought and high temperature(DrHt)). Result indicated that(1) the interaction of genotype and environmental condition(G×E) was significant for 6 traits but not significant for the other 4 traits as shown by two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA), suggesting that different selection forces were placed for different traits on the factors dominating phenotypic responses to different environmental conditions. Moreover, these significant G×E effects on traits indicated significantly different phenotypic adaptive responses among L. chinensis genotypes to different environmental conditions. Additionally, individuals could be grouped according to environmental condition rather than genotype as shown by canonical discriminant analysis, indicating that environmental condition played a more important role in affecting phenotypic variation than genotype;(2) by one-way ANOVA, significant differences among L. chinensis genotypes were found in all 10 traits under Ck and Dr condi

Quantized anomalous Hall resistivity achieved in molecular beam epitaxy-grown Mn Bi2Te4 thin films

The intrinsic magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4provides a feasible pathway to the high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall（QAH） effect as well as various novel topological quantum phases. Although quantized transport properties have been observed in exfoliated MnBi2Te4thin flakes, it remains a big challenge to achieve molecular beam epitaxy（MBE）-grown MnBi2Te4thin films even close to the quantized regime. In this work, we report the realization of quantized anomalous Hall resistivity in MBE-grown MnBi2Te4thin films with the chemical potential tuned by both controlled in situ oxygen exposure and top gating. We find that elongated post-annealing obviously elevates the temperature to achieve quantization of the Hall resistivity, but also increases the residual longitudinal resistivity, indicating a picture of high-quality QAH puddles weakly coupled by tunnel barriers. These results help to clarify the puzzles in previous experimental studies on MnBi2Te4and to find a way out of the big difficulty in obtaining MnBi2Te4samples showing quantized transport properties.

Global Sea Level Change and Thermal Contribution

The global long-term sea level trend is obtained from the analysis of tide gauge data and TOPEX/Poseidon data. The linear trend of global mean sea level is highly non-uniform spatially, with an average rate of 2.2 mm year-1 in T/P sea-level rise from October 1992 to September 2002. Sea level change due to temperature variation (the thermosteric sea level) is discussed. The results are compared with TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter data in the same temporal span at different spatial scales. It is indicated that the thermal effect accounts for 86% and 73% of the observed seasonal variability in the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively. The TOPEX/Poseidon observed sea level lags behind the TSL by 2 months in the zonal band of 40?–60? in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Systematic differences of about 1–2 cm between TOPEX/Poseidon observations and thermosteric sea level data are obtained. The potential causes for these differences include water exchange among the atmosphere, land, and oceans, and some possible deviations in thermosteric contribution estimates and geophysical corrections to the TOPEX/Poseidon data.

Id2 epigenetically controls CD8^(+)T-cell exhaustion by disrupting the assembly of the Tcf3-LSD1 complex

CD8^(+)T-cell exhaustion is a state of dysfunction that promotes tumor progression and is marked by the generation of Slamf6^(+)progenitor exhausted(Tex^(prog))and Tim-^(3+)terminally exhausted(Tex^(term))subpopulations.Inhibitor of DNA binding protein 2(Id2)has been shown to play important roles in T-cell development and CD8^(+)T-cell immunity.However,the role of Id2 in CD8^(+)T-cell exhaustion is unclear.Here,we found that Id2 transcriptionally and epigenetically regulates the generation of Texprog cells and their conversion to Texterm cells.Genetic deletion of Id2 dampens CD8^(+)T-cell-mediated immune responses and the maintenance of stem-like CD8^(+)T-cell subpopulations,suppresses PD-1 blockade and increases tumor susceptibility.Mechanistically,through its HLH domain,Id2 binds and disrupts the assembly of the Tcf3-Tal1 transcriptional regulatory complex,and thus modulates chromatin accessibility at the Slamf6 promoter by preventing the interaction of Tcf3 with the histone lysine demethylase LSD1.Therefore,Id2 increases the abundance of the permissive H3K4me2 mark on the Tcf3-occupied E-boxes in the Slamf6 promoter,modulates chromatin accessibility at the Slamf6 promoter and epigenetically regulates the generation of Slamf6+Texprog cells.An LSD1 inhibitor GSK2879552 can rescue the Id2 knockout phenotype in tumor-bearing mice.Inhibition of LSD1 increases the abundance of Slamf6^(+)Tim-3^(−)Tex^(prog) cells in tumors and the expression level of Tcf1 in Id2-deleted CD8+T cells.This study demonstrates that Id2-mediated transcriptional and epigenetic modification drives hierarchical CD8^(+)T-cell exhaustion,and the mechanistic insights gained may have implications for therapeutic intervention with tumor immune evasion.
