Phosphorylation of human Sgo1 by NEK2A is essential for chromosome congression in mitosis

Chromosome segregation in mitosis is orchestrated by the interaction of the kinetochore with spindle microtubules. Ourrecent study shows that NEK2A interacts with MAD1 at the kinetochore and possibly functions as a novel integrator ofspindle checkpoint signaling. However, it is unclear how NEK2 A regulates kinetochore-microtubule attachment in *** we show that NEK2A phosphorylates human Sgol and such phosphorylation is essential for faithful chromosomecongression in mitosis. NEK2A binds directly to HsSgol in vitro and co-distributes with HsSgol to the kinetochore ofmitotic cells. Our in vitro phosphorylation experiment demonstrated that HsSgol is a substrate of NEK2A and the phos-phorylation sites were mapped to Ser14and Ser507as judged by the incorporation of32P. Although such phosphorylation isnot required for assembly of HsSgol to the kinetochore, expression of non-phosphorylatable mutant HsSgol perturbedchromosome congression and resulted in a dramatic increase in microtubule attachment errors, including syntelic andmonotelic attachments. These findings reveal a key role for the NEK2A-mediated phosphorylation of HsSgol in orches-trating dynamic kinetochore-microtubule interaction. We propose that NEK2 A-mediated phosphorylation of human Sgolprovides a link between centromeric cohesion and spindle microtubule attachment at the kinetochores.

A Method for Evaluating the Maximum Bending Degree of Flexural Toppling Rock Masses Based on the Rock Tensile Strain-Softening Model

Flexural toppling occurs when a series of layered rock masses bend towards their free *** is important to evaluate the maximum bending degree and the requirement of supports of flexural toppling rock mass to prevent rock mass cracking and even failure leading to a *** on the rock tensile strain-softening model,this study proposes a method for calculating the maximum curvature(C_(ppmax))of flexural toppling rock *** applying this method to calculate Cppmax of 9 types of rock masses with different hardness and rock layer thickness,some conclusions are drawn:(1)the internal key factors affecting C_(ppmax)are E^(⋆)(E^(⋆)=E_(ss)/E_(0),where E_(0)and E_(ss)are the mean deformation moduli of the rock before and after reaching its peak tensile strength,respectively),the strainεt corresponding to the tensile strength of rock,and the thickness(h)of rock layers;(2)hard rock layers are more likely to develop into block toppling than soft rock layers;and(3)thin rock layers are more likely to remain in flexural toppling state than thick rock *** addition,it is found that C_(ppmax)for flexural toppling rock masses composed of bedded rocks such as gneiss is related to the tensile direction.

Theoretical design of polyazole based ligands for the separation of Am(Ⅲ)/Eu(Ⅲ)

The extraction of radioactive minor actinides(An(Ⅲ))from lanthanides(Ln(Ⅲ))is an extremely impor-tant step in nuclear waste *** ligands with high-performance actinide-selectivity re-mains an essential *** works have reported that some polyazole based ligands exhibit good An(Ⅲ)/Ln(Ⅲ)separation ***,we first evaluated the effects of different polyazole side chains on the Am(Ⅲ)/Eu(Ⅲ)selectivity by exploring three pyridine-derived polyazole ligands L^(1),L^(2)and L^(3)with 1,2,4-triazole,1,2,3-triazole,and pyrazole side chains,respectively,using scalar relativistic theoretical *** coordination structures,bonding properties and thermodynamic behaviors of AmL(NO_(3))_(3)and EuL(NO_(3))_(3)complexes were investigated,which clarifies that the side chains do affect the electronic structure of ligand and its selectivity for Am(Ⅲ)/Eu(Ⅲ)***,L^(1)with 1,2,4-triazole side chains exhibited the highest selectivity for Am(Ⅲ)over Eu(Ⅲ)while the lowest complexation ability for metal ions among the three pyridine-derived polyazole ***,we designed a new ligand L^(4)con-taining 1,2,4-triazole side chains and a preorganized phenanthroline ***,such a new ligand was verified to show stronger complexation ability and higher selectivity for Am(Ⅲ)/Eu(Ⅲ)ions than L^(1).This work clarifies the complexation nature of polyazole based ligands with Am(Ⅲ)/Eu(Ⅲ)ions and provides design strategies for highly efficient polyazole based ligands for An(Ⅲ)/Ln(Ⅲ)separation.

Impact resistance performance and optimization of the sand-EPE composite cushion in rock sheds

Rock sheds are widely used to prevent rockfall disasters along roads in mountainous *** improve the capacity of rock sheds for resisting rockfall impact,a sand and expandable polyethylene(EPE)composite cushion was proposed.A series of model experiments of rockfall impact on rock sheds were conducted,and the buried depth of the EPE foam board in the sand layer was *** impact load and dynamic response of the rock shed were *** results show that the maximum impact load and dynamic response of the rock shed roof are all significantly less than those of the sand ***,as the distance between the EPE foam board and rock shed roof decreases,the maximum rockfall impact force and impact pressure gradually decrease,and the maximum displacement,acceleration and strain of the rock shed first decrease and then change *** addition,the vibration acceleration and vertical displacement of the rock shed roof decrease from the centre to the edge and decrease faster along the longitudinal direction than that along the transverse *** conclusion,the buffering effect of the sand-EPE composite cushion is better than that of the pure sand cushion,and the EPE foam board at a depth of 1/3 the thickness of the sand layer is appropriate.

Understanding the Interfacial Energy Structure and Electron Extraction Process in Inverted Organic Solar Cells with Phosphine-Doped Cathode Interlayers

Comprehensive Summary Cathode interlayers(CILs)play an essential role in achieving efficient organic solar cells(OSCs).However,the electronic structure at the electrode/CIL/active layer interfaces and the underlying mechanisms for electron collection remain unclear,which becomes a major obstacle to develop high-performance ***,we investigate the relationship of the electron collection abilities of four cross-linked and n-doped CILs(c-NDI:P0,c-NDI:P1,c-NDI:P2,c-NDI:P3)with their electronic structure of space charge region at heterojunction *** accurately calculating the depletion region width according to the barrier height,doping density and permittivity,we put forward that the optimal thickness of CIL should be consistent with the depletion region width to realize the minimum energy *** a result,the depletion region width is largely reduced from 13 nm to 0.8 nm at the indium tin oxide(ITO)/c-NDI:P0 interface,resulting in a decent PCE of 17.7%for the corresponding inverted OSCs.

Influence of the penetration of adjacent X-section cast-in-place concrete(XCC)pile on the existing XCC pile in sand

A series of small-scale 1g X-section cast-in-place concrete(XCC)pile-penetration model tests were conducted to study the effects of soil density and pile geometry on the lateral responses of an existing pile and the variations in surrounding soil *** results showed that the bending patterns of existing XCC piles varied with penetration *** lateral response of the existing pile was sensitive to the change in relative density and pile *** example,the bending moment of the existing pile increased along with these *** development of the radial stressσ′r/σ′v0 of the soil around an existing pile showed different trends at various depths during the penetration of the adjacent ***,the change in radial stress during the penetration of the XCC pile did not exhibit the“h/R effect”that was observed in the free-field soil,due to the shielding effect of the existing *** peak value of radial stressσ′r_max/σ′v0 decreased exponentially as the radial distance r/R *** attenuation ofσ′r_max/σ′v0 with r/R in the loose sand was faster than in the medium-dense or dense ***σ′r_max/σ′v0 at the same soil location increased with the cross-section geometry parameter.

High-yield production of porous carbon spheres derived from enzymatic hydrolysis lignin for zinc ion hybrid capacitors

The widespread implementation of supercapacitors is hindered by the limited energy density and the pricey porous carbon electrode *** cost of porous carbon is a significant factor in the overall cost of supercapacitors,therefore a high carbon yield could effectively mitigate the production cost of porous *** study proposes a method to produce porous carbon spheres through a spray drying technique combined with a carbonization process,utilizing renewable enzymatic hydrolysis lignin as the carbon source and KOH as the activation *** purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the quantity of activation agent and the development of morphology,pore structure,and specific surface area of the obtained porous carbon *** demonstrate that this approach significantly enhances the carbon yield of porous carbon,achieving a yield of 22%in contrast to the conventional carbonization-activation method(9%).The samples acquired through this method were found to contain a substantial amount of mesopores,with an average pore size of 1.59 to 1.85 nm and a mesopore ratio of 25.6%.Additionally,these samples showed high specific surface areas,ranging from 1051 to 1831 m2·g^(−1).Zinc ion hybrid capacitors with lignin-derived porous carbon cathode exhibited a high capacitance of 279 F·g^(−1) at 0.1 A·g^(−1) and an energy density of 99.1 Wh·kg^(−1) when the power density was 80 kW·kg^(−1).This research presents a novel approach for producing porous carbons with high yield through the utilization of a spray drying approach.

In this work,flexible photothermal PVA/Ti_(2)O_(3) composite films with different amount(0 wt%,5 wt%,10 wt%,15 wt%)of Ti_(2)O_(3) particles modified by steric acid were prepared by a simple solution casting *** microstructures,XRD patterns,FTIR spectra,UV-Vis-NIR spectra thermo-conductivity,thermo-stability and photothermal effects of these composite films were all *** results indicated that Ti_(2)O_(3) particles were well dispersed throughout the polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)matrix in the PVA/Ti_(2)O_(3) composite *** Ti_(2)O_(3) particles could also effectively improve the photothermal properties of the composite films which exhibited high light absorption and generated a high temperature(about 57.4℃for film with 15 wt%Ti_(2)O_(3) amount)on the surface when it was irradiated by a simulated sunlight source(1 kW/m^(2)).

In recent years,organic solar cells(OSCs)have garnered significant attention due to their distinctive attributes,such as flexibility,lightweight,and solution processing,which position them as alternatives for next-generation solar technologies[1−5].Thanks to breakthroughs in materials development,the power conversion efficiency(PCE)for single-junction OSCs has already surpassed 19%[6−13].The development of photoactive materials is pivotal in enhancing the PCEs,and several reviews have provided insights into materials design[14−18].Herein,we highlight single-junction OSCs based on D18 and its derivatives[19,20].

Constructing a stable interface on Ni-rich LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2) cathode via lactic acid-assisted engineering strategy

Ni-rich layered oxides are potential cathode materials for next-generation high energy density Li-ion batteries due to their high capacity and low ***,the inherently unstable surface properties,including high levels of residual Li compounds,dissolution of transition metal cations,and parasitic side reactions,have not been effectively addressed,leading to significant degradation in their electrochemical *** this study,we propose a simple and effective lactic acid-assisted interface engineering strategy to regulate the surface chemistry and properties of Ni-rich LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mr_(0.1)O_(2) *** novel surface treatment method successfully eliminates surface residual Li compounds,inhibits structural collapse,and mitigates cathode-electrolyte interface film *** a result,the lactic acidtreated LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2) achieved a remarkable capacity retention of 91.7% after 100 cycles at 0.5 C(25℃) and outstanding rate capability of 149.5 mA h g^(-1) at 10 C,significantly outperforming the pristine ***,a pouch-type full cell incorporating the modified LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2) cathode demonstrates impressive long-term cycle life,retaining 81.5% of its capacity after 500 cycles at 1 *** importantly,the thermal stability of the modified cathode is also dramatically *** study offers a valuable surface modification strategy for enhancing the overall performance of Ni-rich cathode materials.
