Entropy production in quasi-isentropic compression (QIC) is critically important for understanding the properties of materials under extremeconditions. However, the origin and accurate quantification of entropy in this situation remain long-standing challenges. In this work, a framework is established for the quantification of entropy production and partition, and their relation to microstructural change in QIC. Cu50Zr50is taken as a model material, and its compression is simulated by molecular dynamics. On the basis of atomistic simulation-informed physicalproperties and free energy, the thermodynamic path is recovered, and the entropy production and its relation to microstructural change aresuccessfully quantified by the proposed framework. Contrary to intuition, entropy production during QIC of metallic glasses is relativelyinsensitive to the strain rate ˙γ when ˙γ ranges from 7.5 × 10^(8) to 2 × 10^(9)/s, which are values reachable in QIC experiments, with a magnitudeof the order of 10^(−2)kB/atom per GPa. However, when ˙γ is extremely high (>2 × 10^(9)/s), a notable increase in entropy production rate with˙γ is observed. The Taylor–Quinney factor is found to vary with strain but not with strain rate in the simulated regime. It is demonstrated thatentropy production is dominated by the configurational part, compared with the vibrational part. In the rate-insensitive regime, the increase inconfigurational entropy exhibits a linear relation to the Shannon-entropic quantification of microstructural change, and a stretched exponential relation to the Taylor–Quinney factor. The quantification of entropy is expected to provide thermodynamic insights into the fundamentalrelation between microstructure evolution and plastic dissipation.

Natural marmatite photocatalyst for treatment of mineral processing wastewater to help zero wastewater discharge

Mineral processing wastewater(MPW)with large discharge and high toxicity affects environmental safety,and the realizing zero discharge of MPW is of great significance for reducing environmental pollution,saving water resources,and promoting the sustainable development of the mining industry.In this study,we reported natural marmatite(NM)as a low-cost and efficient photocatalyst for the treatment of MPW to help zero wastewater discharge.The photocatalytic activity of NM was evaluated by the removal of total organic carbon(TOC)from MPW under visible-light illumination,and the optimal degradation conditions were discussed.Results showed that superoxide free radicals(^(·)O_(2)^(-))were the dominant active species responsible for organic pollutants degradation,and 74.25%TOC removal was obtained after 120 min reaction under the optimum treatment conditions.Meanwhile,the wastewater treated by NM photocatalysis can be reused in the flotation system without adverse impact on the product index.Based on these findings,a model of zero wastewater discharge for flotation with the help of photocatalytic treatment was established,it indicated that the water of the whole system can be balanced without affecting the ore dressing index,which showed that visible light-driven photocatalyst has a promising application prospect in the treatment and recycling of industrial wastewater.

Digital Twin-Assisted Semi-Federated Learning Framework for Industrial Edge Intelligence

The rapid development of emerging technologies,such as edge intelligence and digital twins,have added momentum towards the development of the Industrial Internet of Things(IIo T).However,the massive amount of data generated by the IIo T,coupled with heterogeneous computation capacity across IIo T devices,and users’data privacy concerns,have posed challenges towards achieving industrial edge intelligence(IEI).To achieve IEI,in this paper,we propose a semi-federated learning framework where a portion of the data with higher privacy is kept locally and a portion of the less private data can be potentially uploaded to the edge server.In addition,we leverage digital twins to overcome the problem of computation capacity heterogeneity of IIo T devices through the mapping of physical entities.We formulate a synchronization latency minimization problem which jointly optimizes edge association and the proportion of uploaded nonprivate data.As the joint problem is NP-hard and combinatorial and taking into account the reality of largescale device training,we develop a multi-agent hybrid action deep reinforcement learning(DRL)algorithm to find the optimal solution.Simulation results show that our proposed DRL algorithm can reduce latency and have a better convergence performance for semi-federated learning compared to benchmark algorithms.

π-Extended giant dimeric acceptor as a third component enables highly efficient ternary organic solar cells with efficiency over 19.2%

Ternary strategy with a suitable third component is a successful strategy to improve the photovoltaic performance of organic solar cells(OSCs). Very recently, Y-series based giant molecule acceptors or oligomerized acceptors have emerged as promising materials for achieving highly efficient and stable binary OSCs, while application as third component for ternary OSCs is limited. Here a novel π-extended giant dimeric acceptor, GDF, is developed based on central Y series core fusion and rigid BDT as linker, and then incorporated into the state-of-the-art PM1:PC6 system to construct ternary OSCs.The GDF has a near planar backbone, resulting in increased π-conjugation, excellent crystallinity, and good electron transport capacity. When GDF is introduced into the PM1:PC6 system, it ensues in a cascade like the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals(LUMO) energy level alignment, a complementary absorption band with PM1 and PC6, higher and balanced hole and electron mobility, slightly smaller domain size, and a higher exciton dissociation probability for PM1:PC6:GDF(1:1.1:0.1) blend film. As a consequence, the PM1:PC6:GDF(1:1.1:0.1) ternary OSC achieves a champion PCE of 19.22%, with a significantly higher open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current density, compared to 18.45% for the PM1:PC6(1:1.2) binary OSC. Our findings show that employing a π-extended giant dimeric acceptor as a third component significantly improves the photovoltaic performance of ternary OSCs.

Bi_(2)O_(2)CO_(3)(BOC)/Bi_(4)O_5Br_(2)(BOB)/reduced graphene oxide(rGO)Z-scheme heterojunction with promising photocatalytic properties was synthesized via a facile one-pot room-temperature method.Ultra-thin nanosheets of BOC and BOB were grown in situ on r GO.The formed 2D/2D direct Z-scheme heterojunction of BOC/BOB with oxygen vacancies(OVs)effectively leads to lower negative electron reduction potential of BOB as well as higher positive hole oxidation potential of BOC,showing improved reduction/oxidation ability.Particularly,rGO is an acceptor of the electrons from the conduction band of BOC.Its dual roles significantly improve the transfer performance of photo-induced charge carriers and accelerate their separation.With layered nanosheet structure,rich OVs,high specific surface area,and increased utilization efficiency of visible light,the multiple synergistic effects of BOC/BOB/rGO can achieve effective generation and separation of the electron-holes,thereby generating more·O_(2)^(-)and h^(+).The photocatalytic reduction efficiency of CO_(2)to CO(12.91μmol/(g·hr))is three times higher than that of BOC(4.18μmol/(g·hr)).Moreover,it also achieved almost 100%removal of Rhodamine B and cyanobacterial cells within 2 hours.

Internal solitary wave(ISW),as a typical marine dynamic process in the deep sea,widely exists in oceans and marginal seas worldwide.The interaction between ISW and the seafloor mainly occurs in the bottom boundary layer.For the seabed boundary layer of the deep sea,ISW is the most important dynamic process.This study analyzed the current status,hotspots,and frontiers of research on the interaction between ISW and the seafloor by CiteSpace.Focusing on the action of ISW on the seabed,such as transformation and reaction,a large amount of research work and results were systematically analyzed and summarized.On this basis,this study analyzed the wave–wave interaction and interaction between ISW and the bedform or slope of the seabed,which provided a new perspective for an in‐depth understanding of the interaction between ISW and the seafloor.Finally,the latest research results of the bottom boundary layer and marine engineering stability by ISW were introduced,and the unresolved problems in the current research work were summarized.This study provides a valuable reference for further research on the hazards of ISW to marine engineering geology.

To the Editor:Tumors are one of the main causes of death worldwide.Pyroptosis is a newly discovered form of cell death,causing cell swelling and rapid lysis,which releases pro-inflammatory mediators and enhances the inflammatory response.[1]Inflammation increases the immune response to tumors and inhibits their progression.The ultimate goal of cancer therapeutics is to maximize the destruction of tumor cells while minimizing the damage to normal tissues.[2]Targeting pyroptosis of tumor cells could overcome the apoptotic resistance and trigger antitumor immunity,thus being a good treatment for tumors.

Mitochondria-targeted nanoparticles overcome chemoresistance via downregulating BACH1/CD47 axis in ovarian carcinoma

The platinum-based chemotherapy is a routine strategy for the treatment of ovarian cancer,while it is prone to chemoresistance in clinical,which hinders the treatment.Therefore,it is urgently needed to elucidate the underlying mechanism of drug resistance and form the appropriate strategy.The sequencing results showed that cisplatin(DDP)resistant ovarian cancer overexpressed BTB and CNC homology 1(BACH1),and up-regulated the“don’t eat me”signal CD47.We identified that hemin,a BACH1 inhibitor,could effectively down-regulate BACH1 and simultaneously inhibit CD47.Moreover,hemin has a synergistic effect with DDP.We designed a pH-responsive nanoparticle(H/D@FA-CaP-NPs)in which folic acid(FA)ensured targeting of ovarian cancer cells,while hemin inhibited BACH1 as well as down-regulated CD47,achieving the promotion of apoptosis of tumor cells and inducing phagocytosis of tumors by macrophages.Moreover,hemin has a synergistic effect with DDP to promote apoptosis of tumor cells.Structurally,hemin and DDP was encapsulated within hydrophobic 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine(DSPE)to form a tight core,and hydrophilic polyethylene glycol 2000(PEG2000)and calcium phosphate(CaP)formed the outside shell,and FA was modified on the surface of nanoparticles.In terms of function,(a)FA enhanced the active targeting of nanoparticles to tumors;(b)NPs targeted mitochondria to induce reactive oxygen species(ROS)production;(c)hemin encapsulated in nanoparticles could specifically target BACH1,thereby down regulating CD47;(d)hemin had a synergistic effect with DDP,thus augmenting the chemotherapy.Altogether,mitochondria-targeted nanoparticles H/D@FA-CaP-NPs promoted tumor apoptosis and mobilized phagocytosis to treat tumor,providing a novel scheme for clinical treatment of cisplatin-resistant ovarian carcinoma.

Visualization of nasal powder distribution using biomimetic human nasal cavity model

Nasal drug delivery efficiency is highly dependent on the position in which the drug is deposited in the nasal cavity.However,no reliable method is currently available to assess its impact on delivery performance.In this study,a biomimetic nasal model based on three-dimensional(3D)reconstruction and three-dimensional printing(3DP)technology was developed for visualizing the deposition of drug powders in the nasal cavity.The results showed significant differences in cavity area and volume and powder distribution in the anterior part of the biomimetic nasal model of Chinese males and females.The nasal cavity model was modified with dimethicone and validated to be suitable for the deposition test.The experimental device produced the most satisfactory results with five spray times.Furthermore,particle sizes and spray angles were found to significantly affect the experimental device’s performance and alter drug distribution,respectively.Additionally,mometasone furoate(MF)nasal spray(NS)distribution patterns were investigated in a goat nasal cavity model and three male goat noses,confirming the in vitro and in vivo correlation.In conclusion,the developed human nasal structure biomimetic device has the potential to be a valuable tool for assessing nasal drug delivery system deposition and distribution.

Vehicular Electronic Image Stabilization System Based on a Gasoline Model Car Platform

Noise,vibration and harshness(NVH)problems in vehicle engineering are always challenging in both traditional vehicles and intelligent vehicles.Although high accuracy manufacturing,modern structural roads and advanced suspension technology have already significantly reduced NVH problems and their impacts;off-road condition,obstacles and extreme operating condition could still trigger NVH problems unexpectedly.This paper proposes a vehicular electronic image stabilization(EIS)system to solve the vibration problem of the camera and ensure the environment perceptive function of vehicles.Firstly,feature point detection and matching based on an oriented FAST and rotated BRIEF(ORB)algorithm are implemented to match images in the process of EIS.Furthermore,a novel improved random sampling consensus algorithm(i-RANSAC)is proposed to eliminate mismatched feature points and increase the matching accuracy significantly.And an adaptive Kalman filter(AKF)is applied to improve the adaptability of the vehicular EIS.Finally,an experimental platform based on a gasoline model car was established to validate its performance.The experimental results show that the proposed EIS system can satisfy vehicular performance requirements even under off-road condition with obvious obstacles.
