Flavonoids from mulberry leaves inhibit fat production and improve fatty acid distribution in adipose tissue in finishing pigs

This study evaluated the effects of flavonoids from mulberry leaves (FML) on plasma biochemical indices,serum activities of lipid metabolism-related enzymes,fat morphology,fatty acid composition,and lipid metabolism in different adipose tissues of finishing pigs.We used 120 Chinese hybrid barrows of Berkshire and Bama mini-pigs with an average initial body weight of 45.11±4.23 kg.The pigs were randomly assigned to five treatment groups and fed a control diet based on corn,soybean meal,and wheat bran or a control diet supplemented with 0.02%,0.04%,0.08%,or 0.16%FML.Each experimental group had six replicates (pens),with four pigs per pen.After a 7-d adaptation period,the feeding trial was conducted for 58 d.Blood and adipose tissue samples were collected from 30 pigs (one pig per pen)at the end of the test.The results showed that FML supplementation significantly decreased the feed intake to body gain ratio,the plasma concentrations of total cholesterol and free fatty acids,and the serum activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (linear or quadratic effects,Phe plasma triglyceride concentration (quadratic,P=0.07).Increasing FML supplementation increased the average daily gain and serum activities of lipoprotein lipase (linear and quadratic effects,Phe adipocyte area in the dorsal subcutaneous adipose (DSA) tissue of finishing pigs (linear,P=0.05) and increased the adipocyte area in the visceral adipose tissue (quadratic,Phe C20:1 content in DSA,abdominal subcutaneous adipose,and visceral adipose tissues of finishing pigs (Phe C18:3n3 and n-3 PUFA contents(Phe lipid metabolism genes were regulated by the PPARγ-LXRa-ABCA1 signaling pathway,and their expressions differed in different adipose tissues.These findings suggest that FML improved growth performance,regulated lipid metabolism,inhibited fat production

Nitric oxide removal from flue gas coupled with the Fe^(II)EDTA regeneration by ultraviolet irradiation

During wet complexation denitrification of flue gas,Fe^(II)EDTA regeneration,also known as reducing Fe^(II)IEDTA and Fe^(II)EDTA-nitric oxide(NO)to Fe^(II)EDTA,is crucial.In this paper,ultraviolet(UV)light was used for the first time to reduce Fe^(II)EDTA-NO.The experimental result demonstrated that Fe^(II)EDTA-NO reduction rate increased with UV power increasing,elevated temperature,and initial Fe^(II)EDTA-NO concentration decreasing.Fe^(II)EDTA-NO reduction rate increased first and then decreased as pH value increased(2.0e10.0).Fe^(II)EDTA-NO reduction with UV irradiation presented a first order reaction with respect to Fe^(II)EDTA-NO.Compared with other Fe^(II)EDTA regeneration methods,Fe^(II)EDTA regeneration with UV show more superiority through comprehensive consideration of regeneration rate and procedure.Subsequently,NO absorption experiment by Fe^(II)EDTA solution with UV irradiation confirmed that UV can significantly promote the NO removal performance of Fe^(II)EDTA.Appropriate oxygen concentration(3%(vol))and acidic environment(pH=4)was favorable for NO removal.With UV power increasing as well as temperature decreasing,NO removal efficiency rose.In addition,the mechanism research indicates that NO from flue gas is mostly converted to NO_(2)-,NO_(3)-,NH_(4)^(+),N_(2),and N_(2)O with Fe^(II)EDTA absorption liquid with UV irradiation.UV strengthens NO removal in Fe^(II)EDTA absorption liquid by forming a synergistic effect of oxidationereductionecomplexation.Finally,compared with NO removal methods with Fe^(II)EDTA,Fe^(II)EDTA combined UV system shows prominent technology advantage in terms of economy and secondary pollution.

Compatibility evaluation between waterborne epoxy resin and SBR latex modified asphalt emulsion

Good compatibility between waterborne epoxy resin(WER)modifier and styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR)latex modified asphalt emulsion(SBRE)is an essential premise for good pavement performance of WER and SBR latex compositely modified asphalt emulsion(WSAE).This study aims to explore the compatibility between WER modifier and SBRE.To achieve the goal,several WER modifiers produced by two methods were first selected to modify SBRE,thus the WSAEs were prepared.Next,storage stability and workability of the WSAEs themselves,and high-temperature performance,rheological behavior and temperature sensitivity of their evaporated residues were compared and evaluated via performing a series of experiments,respectively,thus the WER modifier possessing an optimal modification effect was recommended.Results show that the storage stability of WSAEs is sensitive to the amount of WERs.The incorporation of 1%WERs by the mass of SBRE improves the storage stability of SBRE,while WERs that exceed 1%weaken its storage stability.When the WERs reach 3%and 4%,the 5 d storage stability of prepared WSAEs will be beyond the limitation of specification.Incorporating WERs into SBRE negatively affects the workability of SBRE,and the workability of WSAEs is adversely influenced by the WERs content and the storage time.To ensure the construction,the WSAEs with 3%and 4%WERs should not be stored for more than 36 h and 48 h,respectively.The WERs effectively improve the high-temperature performance of SBRE residue,especially the 3%WERs.Besides,the WERs notably enhance the rheological property and thermal stability of SBRE residue.In contrast,the WER modifier produced by chemically modified method has a smaller adverse impact on the storage stability and workability of WSAE,and a larger enhancement on the high-temperature performance,rheological property and thermal stability of SBRE residue,which is thus recommended to modify SBRE.

Natural marmatite photocatalyst for treatment of mineral processing wastewater to help zero wastewater discharge

Mineral processing wastewater(MPW)with large discharge and high toxicity affects environmental safety,and the realizing zero discharge of MPW is of great significance for reducing environmental pollution,saving water resources,and promoting the sustainable development of the mining industry.In this study,we reported natural marmatite(NM)as a low-cost and efficient photocatalyst for the treatment of MPW to help zero wastewater discharge.The photocatalytic activity of NM was evaluated by the removal of total organic carbon(TOC)from MPW under visible-light illumination,and the optimal degradation conditions were discussed.Results showed that superoxide free radicals(^(·)O_(2)^(-))were the dominant active species responsible for organic pollutants degradation,and 74.25%TOC removal was obtained after 120 min reaction under the optimum treatment conditions.Meanwhile,the wastewater treated by NM photocatalysis can be reused in the flotation system without adverse impact on the product index.Based on these findings,a model of zero wastewater discharge for flotation with the help of photocatalytic treatment was established,it indicated that the water of the whole system can be balanced without affecting the ore dressing index,which showed that visible light-driven photocatalyst has a promising application prospect in the treatment and recycling of industrial wastewater.

Recent advances and remaining challenges in lung cancer therapy

Lung cancer remains the most common cause of cancer death.Given the continued research into new drugs and combination therapies,outcomes in lung cancer have been improved,and clinical benefits have been expanded to a broader patient population.However,the overall cure and survival rates for lung cancer patients remain low,especially in metastatic cases.Among the available lung cancer treatment options,such as surgery,radiation therapy,chemotherapy,targeted therapies,and alternative therapies,immunotherapy has shown to be the most promising.The exponential progress in immuno-oncology research and recent advancements made in the field of immunotherapy will further increase the survival and quality of life for lung cancer patients.Substantial progress has been made in targeted therapies using tyrosine kinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibody immune checkpoint inhibitors with many US Food And Drug Administration(FDA)-approved drugs targeting the programmed cell death ligand-1 protein(e.g.,durvalumab,atezolizumab),the programmed cell death-1 receptor(e.g.,nivolumab,pembrolizumab),and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 4(e.g.,tremelimumab,ipilimumab).Cytokines,cancer vaccines,adoptive T cell therapies,and Natural killer cell mono-and combinational therapies are rapidly being studied,yet to date,there are currently none that are FDA-approved for the treatment of lung cancer.In this review,we discuss the current lung cancer therapies with an emphasis on immunotherapy,including the challenges for future research and clinical applications.

Crustal structure in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas of Jiangxi Province by P-wave receiver functions

We collected high-quality teleseismic events recorded by 12 broadband seismographs deployed in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas in Pingxiang City,Jiangxi Province for nearly two years.The H-κ-c stacking method was employed to obtain the crustal thickness and Poisson's ratio distribution,then the characteristics of crustal structure below the stations were obtained by using the time-domain linear inversion method.The crustal thickness in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas ranges from approximately 32~35 km,with an average thickness of 33 km,which is consistent with the crustal thickness results in South China from previous studies using the receiver function method.The average Poisson's ratio of the crustal bulk composition in the study area varies between 0.22 and 0.25,which is lower than the global value with a 0.27 average,indicating a predominantly intermediate-acidic or felsic crustal composition.There is a weak negative correlation between Poisson's ratio and crustal thickness estimates in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas,suggesting that the absence of mafic-ultramafic materials in the lower crust is associated with the process of crustal delamination.The velocity inversion results indicate that the crustal structure including three velocity discontinuity interfaces,with the first at a depth of approximately 1.5 km,the second at about 10~15 km,and the third being the Moho.The study also indicates that the results obtained by the H-κ-c stacking method are significantly better than those obtained by the H-κmethod,effectively reducing the standard deviation and dispersion of crustal thickness and vP/vSratio.

Digital Twin-Assisted Semi-Federated Learning Framework for Industrial Edge Intelligence

The rapid development of emerging technologies,such as edge intelligence and digital twins,have added momentum towards the development of the Industrial Internet of Things(IIo T).However,the massive amount of data generated by the IIo T,coupled with heterogeneous computation capacity across IIo T devices,and users’data privacy concerns,have posed challenges towards achieving industrial edge intelligence(IEI).To achieve IEI,in this paper,we propose a semi-federated learning framework where a portion of the data with higher privacy is kept locally and a portion of the less private data can be potentially uploaded to the edge server.In addition,we leverage digital twins to overcome the problem of computation capacity heterogeneity of IIo T devices through the mapping of physical entities.We formulate a synchronization latency minimization problem which jointly optimizes edge association and the proportion of uploaded nonprivate data.As the joint problem is NP-hard and combinatorial and taking into account the reality of largescale device training,we develop a multi-agent hybrid action deep reinforcement learning(DRL)algorithm to find the optimal solution.Simulation results show that our proposed DRL algorithm can reduce latency and have a better convergence performance for semi-federated learning compared to benchmark algorithms.

Mega-Constellations Based TT&C Resource Sharing: Keep Reliable Aeronautical Communication in an Emergency

With the development of the transportation industry, the effective guidance of aircraft in an emergency to prevent catastrophic accidents remains one of the top safety concerns. Undoubtedly, operational status data of the aircraft play an important role in the judgment and command of the Operational Control Center(OCC). However, how to transmit various operational status data from abnormal aircraft back to the OCC in an emergency is still an open problem. In this paper, we propose a novel Telemetry, Tracking,and Command(TT&C) architecture named Collaborative TT&C(CoTT&C) based on mega-constellation to solve such a problem. CoTT&C allows each satellite to help the abnormal aircraft by sharing TT&C resources when needed, realizing real-time and reliable aeronautical communication in an emergency. Specifically, we design a dynamic resource sharing mechanism for CoTT&C and model the mechanism as a single-leader-multi-follower Stackelberg game. Further, we give an unique Nash Equilibrium(NE) of the game as a closed form. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed resource sharing mechanism is effective, incentive compatible, fair, and reciprocal. We hope that our findings can shed some light for future research on aeronautical communications in an emergency.

Parallelization strategies for resolved simulations of fluid-structure-particle interactions

Fluid-structure-particle interactions in three spatial dimensions happen in many environmental and engineering flows.This paper presents the parallel algorithms for the hybrid diffuse and sharp interface immersed boundary(IB)method developed in our previous work.For the moving structure modeled using the sharp interface IB method,a recursive box method is developed for efficiently classifying the background grid nodes.For the particles modeled using the diffuse interface IB method,a‘master-slave’approach is adopted.For the particle-particle interaction(PPI)and particle-structure interaction(PSI),a fast algorithm for classifying the active and inactive Lagrangian points,which discretize the particle surface,is developed for the‘dry’contact approach.The results show that the proposed recursive box method can reduce the classifying time from 52seconds to 0.3 seconds.Acceptable parallel efficiency is obtained for cases with different particle concentrations.Furthermore,the lubrication model is utilized when a particle approaches a wall,enabling an accurate simulation of the rebounding phenomena in the benchmark particle-wall collision problem.At last,the capability of the proposed computational framework is demonstrated by simulating particle-laden turbulent channel flows with rough walls.
