ZnO Additive Boosts Charging Speed and Cycling Stability of Electrolytic Zn–Mn Batteries

Electrolytic aqueous zinc-manganese(Zn–Mn) batteries have the advantage of high discharge voltage and high capacity due to two-electron reactions. However, the pitfall of electrolytic Zn–Mn batteries is the sluggish deposition reaction kinetics of manganese oxide during the charge process and short cycle life. We show that, incorporating ZnO electrolyte additive can form a neutral and highly viscous gel-like electrolyte and render a new form of electrolytic Zn–Mn batteries with significantly improved charging capabilities. Specifically, the ZnO gel-like electrolyte activates the zinc sulfate hydroxide hydrate assisted Mn^(2+) deposition reaction and induces phase and structure change of the deposited manganese oxide(Zn_(2)Mn_(3)O_8·H_(2)O nanorods array), resulting in a significant enhancement of the charge capability and discharge efficiency. The charge capacity increases to 2.5 mAh cm^(-2) after 1 h constant-voltage charging at 2.0 V vs. Zn/Zn^(2+), and the capacity can retain for up to 2000 cycles with negligible attenuation. This research lays the foundation for the advancement of electrolytic Zn–Mn batteries with enhanced charging capability.

Lidocaine hydrochloride(LIDH) as an anesthetic is widely used in local anesthesia. Dissolving microneedles(MNs) have great application value in the field of skin anesthesia. However, the limited drug-loading of dissolving MNs is an existing challenge that affects clinical use. In this study, we have screened isomaltulose(ISO) as the proper matrix material for the MNs by using molecular dynamics(MD) simulation. Our findings indicate that ISO has good compatibility with LIDH, and the LIDH-loaded ISO MNs(LI-MNs) have high drug-loading capacity. The drug-loading capacity of LI-MNs could reach 80%, and it could effectively puncture the skin. In addition, the preparation method of customized LI-MNs was established based on three-dimensional(3D) printing technology. It was shown that the administration time of LI-MNs could be controlled within 3 min. Also, the LI-MNs were able to provide the local anesthetic efficacy within2 min and sustained for more than 2 h. Significantly, LI-MNs had more efficient drug efficacy compared to the topical creams and the majority of existing LIDH-loaded dissolving MNs. They even provided a longer duration of action than the injections. Overall, the LI-MNs with high drug-loading have a promising application prospect.

Level pinning of anti-PT-symmetric circuits for efficient wireless power transfer

Wireless power transfer(WPT) technology based on magnetic resonance(a basic physical phenomenon)can directly transfer energy from the source to the load without wires and other physical contacts, and has been successfully applied to implantable medical devices, electric vehicles, robotic arms and other ***, due to the frequency splitting of near-field coupling, the resonant WPT system has some unique limitations, such as poor transmission stability and low efficiency. Here, we propose anti-resonance with level pinning for high-performance WPT. By introducing the anti-resonance mode into the basic WPT platform, we uncover the competition between dissipative coupling and coherent coupling to achieve novel level pinning, and construct an effective anti-parity-time(anti-PT)-symmetric non-Hermitian system that is superior to previous PT-symmetric WPT schemes. On the one hand, the eigenvalue of the anti-PT-symmetric system at resonance frequency is always pure real in both strong and weak coupling regions, and can be used to overcome the transmission efficiency decrease caused by weak coupling, as brought about by, for example, a large size ratio of the transmitter to receiver, or a long transmission *** the other hand, due to the level pinning effect of the two kinds of coupling mechanisms, the working frequency of the system is guaranteed to be locked, so frequency tracking is not required when the position and size of the receiver change. Even if the system deviates from the matching condition, an efficient WPT can be realized, thereby demonstrating the robustness of the level pinning. The experimental results show that when the size ratio of the transmitter coil to the receiver coil is 4.29(which is in the weak coupling region), the transfer efficiency of the anti-PT-symmetric system is nearly 4.3(3.2) times higher than that of the PT-symmetric system when the matching conditions are satisfied(deviated). Nowadays,there has been an increasing focus on integrated flight propulsion control and the inlet-exhaust design for the aero-propulsion *** component-level models are inadequate due to installed performance deviations and mismatches between the real engine and the model,failing to meet the accuracy requirements of supersonic *** paper establishes a quasi-one-dimensional model for the inlet-exhaust system and conducts experimental ***,a mechanism-data fusion adaptive modeling scheme using an Extreme Learning Machine based on the Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA-ELM)is *** study reveals the inlet model’s efficacy in reflecting installed performance,flow matching,and mitigating pressure distortion,while the nozzle model accurately predicts flow coefficients and thrust coefficients,and identifies various operational *** model’s output closely aligns with typical experimental *** combining offline optimization and online adaptive correction,the mechanismdata fusion adaptive model substantially reduces output errors during regular flights and varying levels of degradation,and effectively handles gradual degradation within a single flight ***,the mechanism-data fusion adaptive model holistically addresses total pressure errors within the inlet-exhaust system and normal shock location *** approach significantly curbs performance deviations in supersonic *** example,at Ma=2.0,the system error impressively drops from 34.17%to merely 6.54%,while errors for other flight conditions consistently stay below the 2.95%*** findings underscore the clear superiority of the proposed method.

Highly Improved Creep Resistance in Polypropylene Through Thermally Reduced Graphene Oxide and Its Creep Lifetime Prediction

Polypropylene(PP) exhibits suboptimal creep resistance due to the presence of methyl groups on its main chain, leading to irregular chain segment distribution, diminished inter-chain interaction, and crystallinity. This structural feature causes chain slippage in PP under stress,significantly constraining its service lifetime. In this study, thermally reduced graphene oxide(TrGO) nanosheets were incorporated into the PP matrix, yielding a nanocomposite with exceptional creep resistance performance. Results demonstrated that at a stress of 25 MPa, a 2.0 wt% TrGO content could enhance the creep failure lifetime of PP by 21.5 times compared to neat PP. Rheology, transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) characterization techniques were employed to analyze the mechanism of TrGO's influence on PP's creep behavior. It was observed that when TrGO content exceeded 1.0 wt%, an effective particle network structure formed within the PP matrix. This homogeneously dispersed TrGO-formed particle network structure restricted the migration and rearrangement of PP molecular chains, enabling prolonged stress resistance without structural failure. By combining the time-strain superposition method with the critical failure strain as a criterion, generalized creep compliance curves for PP and its composites were established, facilitating the prediction of material creep failure lifetimes, with a strong agreement between experimental and predicted lifetime values. This research proposes a novel strategy aimed at developing polypropylene materials and products with enhanced long-term stability and durability, thus extending service life, reducing failure risk, and broadening their potential across various application domains.
