Mitigated calcification of glutaraldehyde-fixed bovine pericardium by tannic acid in rats

Background Bioprosthetic heart valves derived from glutaraldehyde （Glut）-fixed xenografts have been widely used to replace diseased cardiac valves. However, calcification and degeneration are common following their implantation. Inflammation is closely associated with calcification of Glut-fixed xenografts via macrophage infiltration. Tannic acid （TA） possesses anti-inflammatory effects. This study was designed to investigate the anti-calcification of TA treatment on the Glut-fixed bovine pericardium （BP） in a rat subdermal model. Methods Fresh BP was divided into two groups （10 in each group） and separately subjected to different fixation procedures as follows：（1） Glut group： fixation with 0.6% Glut alone; （2） Glut/TA group： fixation with 0.6% Glut and subsequent 0.3% TA. Then the BP samples were subdermally implanted in juvenile male Sprague-Dawley rats and explanted 21 days after implantation. Each explanted BP sample was divided into three parts for calcium content analysis von Kossa＇s staining and immunohistochemical staining, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction study. Results The data from quantitative calcium analysis and von Kossa＇s staining showed that Glut-fixed BP developed significantly more calcification than Glut/TA-fixed BP （（90.3＋32.5） mg/g dry weight vs （6.4_＋1.3） mg/g dry tissue, P 〈0.01）. Immunostaining demonstrated lower matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tenascin-C expression as well as macrophage infiltration into Glut/TA-fixed BP than in its Glut-fixed counterpart （P 〈0.01 for all）. Additionally, the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction study showed that higher levels of expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tenascin-C mRNA occurred within Glut-fixed BP than within the Glut/TA-fixed ones （P 〈0.01 for all）. Conclusion TA exerts excellent anti-calcification effects on Glut-fixed BP via inhibiting macrophage infiltration and expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tenascin-C.

Electrospraying Si/SiO_(x)/C and Sn/C nanosphere arrays on carbon cloth for high-performance flexible lithium-ion batteries

Exploring electrode materials with larger capacity,higher power density and longer cycle life was critical for developing advanced flexible lithium-ion batteries(liBs).Herein,we used a controlled two-step method including electrospraying followed with calcination treatment by CVD furnace to design novel electrodes of Si/Si_(x)/C and Sn/C microrods array consisting of nanospheres on flexible carbon cloth substrate(denoted as Si/Si_(x)/C@CC,Sn/C@CC).Microrods composed of cumulated nanospheres(the diameter was approximately 120 nm)had a mean diameter of approximately 1.5μm and a length of around 4.0μm,distributing uniformly along the entire woven carbon *** of Si/Si/Si_(x)/C@CC and Sn/C@CC products were synthesized as binder-free anodes for li-ion battery with the features of high reversible capacity and excellent *** Si/Six/C electrode exhibited high specific capacity of about 1750 mA∙h∙g^(−1)at 0.5 A∙g^(−1)and excellent cycling ability even after 1050 cycles with a capacity of 1388 mA∙h∙g^(−1).Highly flexible Si/Si_(x)/C@CC//liCoO_(2)batteries based on liquid and solid electrolytes were also fabricated,exhibiting high flexibility,excellent electrical stability and potential applications in flexible wearable electronics.

Effect of lamellarization on the microstructure and mechanical properties of marine 10Ni5CrMoV steel

Multistage heat treatment involving quenching(Q),lamellarizing(L),and tempering(T)is applied to marine 10Ni5CrMoV *** microstructure and mechanical properties were studied by multiscale characterizations,and the kinetics of reverse austenite transformation,strain hardening behavior,and toughening mechanism were further *** lamellarized specimens possess low yield strength but high toughness,especially cryogenic *** leads to the development of film-like reversed austenite at the martensite block and lath boundaries,refining the martensite structure and lowering the equivalent grain *** analysis of austenite reversion based on the JMAK model shows that the isothermal transformation is dominated by the growth of reversed austenite,and the maximum transformation of reversed austenite is reached at the peak temperature(750℃).The strain hardening behavior based on the modified Crussard-Jaoul analysis indicates that the reversed austenite obtained from lamellarization reduces the proportion of martensite,significantly hindering crack propagation via martensitic transformation during the *** a consequence,the QLT specimens exhibit high machinability and low yield *** with the QT specimen,the ductile-brittle transition temperature of the QLT specimens decreases from-116 to-130℃due to the low equivalent grain size and reversed austenite,which increases the cleavage force required for crack propagation and absorbs the energy of external load,*** work provides an idea to improve the cryogenic toughness of marine 10Ni5CrMoV steel and lays a theoretical foundation for its industrial application and comprehensive performance improvement.

Anomaly monitoring and early warning of electric moped charging device with infrared image

Potential high-temperature risks exist in heat-prone components of electric moped charging devices, such as sockets,interfaces, and controllers. Traditional detection methods have limitations in terms of real-time performance and monitoring scope. To address this, a temperature detection method based on infrared image processing has been proposed:utilizing the median filtering algorithm to denoise the original infrared image, then applying an image segmentation algorithm to divide the image.

The effect of typical seawater cations on the adhesion of mussel protein Mefp-1 based on dissipative quartz crystal microbalance

Mussels are common anchoring organisms that adhere to the surfaces of various substrates with their *** adhesion of mussel to substrates is contingent upon the presence of mussel foot proteins,of which Mytilus edulis foot protein-1(Mefp-1)has been identified as the most abundant *** has been found that lipids are involved in the mussel adhesion process and can facilitate *** this research,the adhesion behavior of Mefp-1 on various substrate surfaces under the effect of typical seawater cations with or without the presence of lipid were investigated using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation(QCM-D).Results indicate that the presence of cations Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),Na^(+),and K^(+)leads to varying degrees of reduction in the adhesion performance of Mefp-1 on different *** degree of this reduction,however,was much alleviated in the presence of palmitic acid,which is involved in the mussel adhesion ***,the involvement of palmitic acid is advantageous for mussel protein adhesion to the substrate surface in the marine *** study illustrated the significant contribution of palmitic acid to mussel adhesion,which can help to better understand biofouling mechanisms and develop biomimetic adhesive materials.

Efficient catalysis of FeNiCu-based multi-site alloys on magnesium-hydride for solid-state hydrogen storage

Hydrogen,as a cheap,clean,and cost-effective secondary energy source,performs an essential role in optimizing today’s energy *** hydride(Mg H_(2))represents an attractive hydrogen carrier for storage and transportation,however,the kinetic behavior and operating temperature remain *** this work,a dual-phase multi-site alloy(Ms A)anchored on carbon substrates was designed,and its superior catalytic effects on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2) were *** analysis identified that multi-site Fe Ni_(3)/Ni Cu nanoalloys synergistically served as intrinsic drivers for the striking de/hydrogenation performance of the MgH_(2)-Ms A ***,the unique multi-metallic site structure attached to the surface of MgH_(2)provided substantial reversible channels and accessible active sites conducive to the adsorption,activation,and nucleation of H *** addition,the coupling system formed by FeNi_(3) and NiCu dual-phase alloys further enhanced the reactivity between Mg/MgH_(2) and H ***,the onset dehydrogenation temperature of Mg H_(2)+5 wt%Ms A was reduced to 195℃ and the hydrogen desorption apparent activation energy was reduced to 83.6 k J/mol.5.08 wt%H_(2) could be released at 250℃ in 20 min,reaching a high dehydrogenation rate of 0.254 wt%H_(2)/min,yet that for MgH_(2) at a higher temperature of 335℃ was only 0.145 wt%H_(2)/***,the dehydrogenated Mg H_(2)-Ms A sample could absorb hydrogen from room temperature(30℃)and charge 3.93 wt%H_(2) at 100℃ within20 min under 3.0 MPa H_(2) *** from carbon substrates,the 5 wt%Ms A doped-MgH_(2) could still maintain 6.36 wt%hydrogen capacity after 20 *** conclusion,this work provides experimental rationale and new insights for the design of efficient catalysts for magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage materials.

Microstructural evolution during the progressive transformation-induced plasticity effect in a Fe-0.1C-5Mnmedium manganese steel

The microstructural evolution of a cold-rolled and intercritical annealed medium-Mn steel(Fe-0.10C-5Mn)was investigated during uniaxial tensile ***-situ observations under scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,and X-ray diffraction analysis were conducted to characterize the progressive transformation-induced plasticity process and associated fracture initiation *** findings were discussed with the local strain measurements via digital image *** results indicated that Lüders band formation in the steel was limited to 1.5%strain,which was mainly due to the early-stage martensitic phase transformation of a very small amount of the less stable large-sized retained austenite(RA),which led to localized stress concentrations and strain hardening and further retardation of *** small-sized RA exhibited high stability and progressively transformed into martensite and contributed to a stably extended Portevin-Le Chatelier *** volume fraction of RA gradually decreased from 26.8%to 8.2%prior to *** the late deformation stage,fracture initiation primarily occurred at the austenite/martensite and ferrite/martensite interfaces and the ferrite phase.

Ozonolysis of ketoprofen in polluted water:Reaction pathways,kinetics,removal efficiency,and health effects

Ketoprofen(KET),as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug frequently detected in aqueous environments,is a threat to human health due to its accumulation and low biodegradability,which requires the transformation and degradation of KET in aqueous *** this paper,the reaction process of ozone-initiated KET degradation in water was investigated using density functional theory(DFT)method at the M06-2X/6-311++g(3df,2p)//M06-2X/6-31+g(d,p)*** detailed reaction path of KET ozonation is *** thermodynamic results show that ozone-initiated KET degradation is *** ultraviolet irradiation,the reaction of ozone with water can also produce OH radicals(HO·)that can react with *** degradation reaction of KET caused by HO·was further *** kinetic calculation illustrates that the reaction rate(1.99×10-1(mol/L)^(-1)sec^(-1))of KET ozonation is relatively slow,but the reaction rate of HO·reaction is relatively high,which can further improve the degradation *** this basis,the effects of pollutant concentration,ozone concentration,natural organic matter,and pH value on degradation efficiency under UV/O3 process were *** ozonolysis reaction of KET is not sensitive to pH and is basically ***,the toxicity prediction of oxidation compounds produced by degradation reaction indicates that most of the degradation products are harmless,and a few products containing benzene rings are still toxic and have to be *** study serves as a theoretical basis for analyzing the migration and transformation process of anti-inflammatory compounds in the water environment.

General and Specific Combining Abilities of Pacific Oyster(Crassostrea gigas)and Fujian Oyster(***)for Growth,Survival and Thermal Tolerance of Their Reciprocal Hybrids

A crossbreeding program was established in 2019 to address the declining Crassostrea gigas harvests caused by Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome(POMS).As a part of the program,this study was performed to estimate the genetic structure underlying phenotypic *** complete diallel crossings of *** and ***,comprising 60 full-sib families,were used to evaluate the general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA),as well as genotype and environment interactions for shell height(SH),summer survival(SS),and thermal tolerance(TT)of reciprocal hybrids GA(***♀×***♂)and AG(***♀×***♂)grown in Rongcheng and Rushan,Shandong Province,*** results suggested that heterosis of the reciprocal hybrids was evident for SH,SS,and *** hybrid GA had larger heterosis than AG in both testing environments,and can be a potential donor in the breeding *** male *** had better GCA for SH in Rongcheng,whereas male *** was a good general combiner for SS and TT in both Rongcheng and *** estimate of SCA was much higher than GCA for SH and lower than GCA for *** harness both additive and non-additive genetic effects,combination breed-ing could be taken to develop hybrid varieties possessing both thermal tolerance and fast-growing *** positive correlations between SH and TT suggested that these traits could be improved *** significant G×E interactions demonstrated the importance to undertake site-specific breeding programs in different ***,this study can provide essential information for developing crossbreeding strategies for the oyster farming industry.
