Biomarkers for neuromyelitis optica:a visual analysis of emerging research trends

Neuromyelitis optica is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that differs from multiple sclerosis.Over the past 20 years,the search for biomarke rs for neuromyelitis optica has been ongoing.Here,we used a bibliometric approach to analyze the main research focus in the field of biomarkers for neuromyelitis optica.Research in this area is consistently increasing,with China and the United States leading the way on the number of studies conducted.The Mayo Clinic is a highly reputable institution in the United States,and was identified as the most authoritative institution in this field.Furthermore,Professor Wingerchuk from the Mayo Clinic was the most authoritative expe rt in this field.Keyword analysis revealed that the terms "neuro myelitis optica"(261 times), "multiple sclerosis"(220 times), "neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder"(132 times), "aquaporin4"(99 times),and "optical neuritis"(87 times) were the most frequently used keywords in literature related to this field.Comprehensive analysis of the classical literature showed that the majority of publications provide conclusive research evidence supporting the use of aquaporin-4-IgG and neuromyelitis optica-IgG to effectively diagnose and differentiate neuromyelitis optica from multiple sclerosis.Furthermore,aquaporin-4-IgG has emerged as a highly specific diagnostic biomarker for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-IgG is a diagnostic biomarke r for myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease.Recent biomarkers for neuromyelitis optica in clude cerebrospinal fluid immunological biomarkers such as glial fibrillary acidic protein,serum astrocyte damage biomarkers like FAM19A5,serum albumin,and gammaaminobutyric acid.The latest prospective clinical trials are exploring the potential of these biomarkers.Preliminary results indicate that glial fibrillary acidic protein is emerging as a promising candidate biomarker for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.The ultimate goal of

Epilepsy frequently leads to cognitive dysfunction and approaches to treatment remain limited.Although regular exercise effectively improves learning and memory functions across multiple neurological diseases,its application in patients with epilepsy remains controversial.Here,we adopted a 14-day treadmill-exercise paradigm in a pilocarpine injection-induced mouse model of epilepsy.Cognitive assays confirmed the improvement of object and spatial memory after endurance training,and electrophysiological studies revealed the maintenance of hippocampal plasticity as a result of physical exercise.Investigations of the mechanisms underlying this effect revealed that exercise protected parvalbumin interneurons,probably via the suppression of neuroinflammation and improved integrity of blood-brain barrier.In summary,this work identified a previously unknown mechanism through which exercise improves cognitive rehabilitation in epilepsy.

High-voltage nickel(Ni)-rich layered oxide-based lithium metal batteries(LMBs)exhibit a great potential in advanced batteries due to the ultra-high energy density.However,it is still necessary to deal with the challenges in poor cyclic and thermal stability before realizing practical application where cycling life is considered.Among many improved strategies,mechanical and chemical stability for the electrode electrolyte interface plays a key role in addressing these challenges.Therefore,extensive effort has been made to address the challenges of electrode-electrolyte interface.In this progress,the failure mechanism of Ni-rich cathode,lithium metal anode and electrolytes are reviewed,and the latest breakthrough in stabilizing electrode-electrolyte interface is also summarized.Finally,the challenges and future research directions of Ni-rich LMBs are put forward.

Effects of serum proteins on corrosion rates and product bioabsorbability of biodegradable metals

Corrodible metals are the newest kind of biodegradable materials and raise a new problem of the corrosion products.However,the removal of the precipitated products has been unclear and even largely ignored in publications.Herein,we find that albumin,an abundant macromolecule in serum,enhances the solubility of corrosion products of iron in blood mimetic Hank’s solution significantly.This is universal for other main biodegradable metals such as magnesium,zinc and polyester-coated iron.Albumin also influences corrosion rates in diverse trends in Hank’s solution and normal saline.Based on quantitative study theoretically and experimentally,both the effects on corrosion rates and soluble fractions are interpreted by a unified mechanism,and the key factor leading to different corrosion behaviors in corrosion media is the interference of albumin to the Ca/P passivation layer on the metal surface.This work has illustrated that the interactions between metals and media macromolecules should be taken into consideration in the design of the next-generation metal-based biodegradable medical devices in the formulism of precision medicine.The improved Hank’s solution in the presence of albumin and with a higher content of initial calcium salt is suggested to access biodegradable metals potentially for cardiovascular medical devices,where the content of calcium salt is calculated after consideration of chelating of calcium ions by albumin,resulting in the physiological concentration of free calcium ions.

Herein,a new nanozyme/natural enzyme hybrid biosensor was established for ultrasensitive l-glutamic acid(L-Glu)detection.The Fe3 O4 nanoparticles with peroxidase-like activity and stability was used as a nanozyme and carrier for immobilizing l-Glutamate oxidase(GLOD)through Schiffff base reaction to construct a chem-enzyme cascade detector.The resultant Fe3 O4-GOLD exhibited a wide linear range(10−500μM)and a low detection limit of 6.03μM for L-Glu detection.Furthermore,the Fe3 O4-GOLD exhibited excellent pH stability,thermal stability,reusability and storage stability.After repeated nine cycles,Fe3 O4-GOLD still retained 70%of its initial activity.Meanwhile,Fe3 O4-GOLD maintained 50%of its initial activity after storage for 20 days,while free GLOD only retained 20%of its initial activity.This strategy of integrating biomimetic Fe 3 O4 and natural enzymes for cascade catalysis makes it possible to design an efficient and stable chemo-enzyme composite catalysts,which are promising for applications in biosensing and biomimetic catalysis.

Interannual Relationship between Summer North Atlantic Oscillation and Subsequent November Precipitation Anomalies over Yunnan in Southwest China

The summer North Atlantic Oscillation(SNAO)strongly affects the climate variability over Europe and downstream East Asia similar to its winter counterpart.This study thus investigates the interannual relationship between SNAO and the subsequent autumn precipitation anomalies over Yunnan,Southwest China and related physical mechanisms based on reanalysis data during 1958–2020.The results show that the interannual variations in SNAO exhibit a significant positive correlation with anomalies of Yunnan precipitation in November.Composite analyses demonstrate that for the positive SNAO phase,the positive sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTAs)in midlatitude North Atlantic as part of a tripole SSTA tend to weaken from summer to November through changes in surface heat fluxes.In turn,the predominately negative SSTA in tropical North Atlantic that persists into November induces an anomalous cyclone at midlatitudes,which triggers two middle–upper tropospheric wave trains propagating from midlatitude North Atlantic to Yunnan.The subtropical wave train propagates eastward along the subtropical westerly jet,and the mid–high latitude wave train follows the great circle path across Scandinavia and central Asia to the Tibetan Plateau.Both wave trains favor development of an anomalous cyclone over the southern Tibetan Plateau.The upper-tropospheric divergent condition on the southeastern side of the anomalous cyclone is dynamically conducive to locally ascending motion over Yunnan,thus producing above-normal precipitation.The opposite situation occurs in the negative SNAO phase.A coupled model reproduces well the wave train propagation and thereby confirms the positive relationship between SNAO and Yunnan precipitation in November.

Effects of drought on non-structural carbohydrates and C,N,and P stoichiometric characteristics of Pinus yunnanensis seedlings

To study non-structural carbohydrate character-istics and nutrient utilization strategies of Pinus yunnanen-sis under continuous drought conditions,2-year-old seed-lings were planted in pots with appropriate water,light and moderate and severe drought treatments[(80±5),(65±5),(50±5),and(35±5)%of field water-holding capacity].Non-structural carbohydrates,carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)concentrations were measured in each plant component.The results show that:(1)With increasing drought,non-structural carbohydrates gradually increased in leaves,stems,and coarse roots,while gradually decreased in fine roots;(2)C concentrations of all were relatively stable under different stress levels.Phosphorous utilization of each component increased under light and moderate drought conditions,while N and P utilization efficiency of each plant component decreased under severe drought.Growth was mainly restricted by N,first decreasing and then increasing with increased drought;(3)There was a correlation between the levels of non-structural carbohydrates and C,N,and P in each component.Changes in N concentration affected the interconversion between soluble sugar and starch,which play a regulatory role in the fluctuation of the concentration of non-structural carbohydrates;and,(4)Plasticity analysis showed that P.yunnanensis seedlings responded to drought mainly by altering starch concentration,the ratio of soluble sugar to starch in leaves and stems,and further by alter-ing N and P utilization efficiencies.Overall,these results suggest that the physiological activities of all organs of P.yunnanensis seedlings are restricted under drought and that trade-offs exist between different physiological indicators and organs.Our findings are helpful in understanding non-structural carbohydrate and nutrient adaptation mechanisms under drought in P.yunnanensis seedlings.

Successive Interference Cancellation and Alignment in K-User MIMO Interference Channels with Partial Unidirectional Strong Interference

Recently cellular networks have been densely and heterogeneously deployed indoors and outdoors to expand the network capacity,and thus the in-building propagation loss and the transmit power diversity of access points will exacerbate link heterogeneity and result in partial unidirectional strong interference.To make full use of the strong interference feature,we propose the successive interference cancellation and alignment(SICA)scheme in the K-user interference channel with partial unidirectional strong interference.SICA is designed to transmit two kinds of data streams simultaneously,the alignment streams and superposition streams.The alignment streams will follow the interference alignment criterion to maintain the optimal degrees of freedom(DoF)performance;the superposition streams are handled via successive interference cancellation at all the strongly interfered receivers to improve the overall achievable rate.The joint transceiver designs for SICA is modeled as a weighted sum rate(WSR)maximization problem,and then can be alternately solved for a local optimum according to the optimality equivalence between WSR and its corresponding weighted mean square error(WMMSE)problem.Simulation results have confirmed the sum rate improvement and DoF optimality of the proposed SICA scheme.

The Effect of Internal Delamination Damage on the Tensile Strength of Aeronautical Composites

For aeronautical composite materials,the appearance of internal delamination has a fatal impact on their mechanical properties and may even seriously threaten aircraft flight safety.In this study,the effect of internal delamination damage with different sizes and depths on the tensile strength of aeronautical composites was investigated.Firstly,based on carbon-fiber-reinforced composites commonly used in aircraft,laminate specimens with internal delamination damages of different depths and diameters were fabricated,and tensile tests of composite materials were carried out.Then,the finite element model for the carbon-fiber-reinforced laminate specimens was established,and the validity of the model was verified by comparing its simulation results with the experimental data.Furthermore,by changing the geometric parameters of the internal delamination damage model,the influence of delamination damage on the tensile strength of carbon-fiber-reinforced composites was analyzed and summarized.The results show that,on the one hand,for the internal delamination damages of the same area,the closer is the delamination damage to the surface layer,the lower is the tensile strength.In particular,the closer is the delamination damage to the surface layer,the greater is the decrease in tensile strength,which exhibits an obvious nonlinear relationship.On the other hand,for the internal delamination defects of the same depth,the difference in delamination area has little effect on the tensile strength.This law provides a reference for the damage detection and maintenance focus of aeronautical composite structures,which is of great significance to ensure the safe use of aeronautical composites.
