Impacts of nitrogen deposition on terrestrial plant diversity: a meta-analysis in China

Aims With the global atmospheric nitrogen(N)deposition increasing,the effect of N deposition on terrestrial plant diversity has been widely *** studies have reviewed the effects of N deposition on plant species diversity;however,all studies addressed the effects of N deposition on plant community focused on species richness in specific *** is a need for a systematic meta-analysis covering multiple dimensions of plant diversity in multiple climate zones and ecosystems *** goal was to quantify changes in species richness,evenness and uncertainty in plant communities in response to N addition across different environmental and experimental *** We performed a meta-analysis of 623 experimental records published in English and Chinese journals to evaluate the response of terrestrial plant diversity to the experimental N addition in *** metrics were used to quantify the change in plant diversity:species richness(SR),evenness(Pielou index)uncertainty(Shannon index).Important Findings Results showed that(i)N addition negatively affected SR in temperate,Plateau zones and subtropical zone,but had no significant effect on Shannon index in subtropical zones;(ii)N addition decreased SR,Shannon index and Pielou index in grassland,and the negative effect of N addition on SR was stronger in forest than in grassland;(iii)N addition negatively affected plant diversity(SR,Shannon index and Pielou index)in the long term,whereas it did not affect plant diversity in the short ***,the increase in N addition levels strengthened the negative effect of N deposition on plant diversity with long experiment duration;and(iv)the negative effect of ammonium nitrate(NH_(4)NO_(3))addition on SR was stronger than that of urea(CO(NH_(2))_(2))addition,but the negative effect of NH_(4)NO_(3) addition on Pielou index was weaker than that of CO(NH2)2 *** results indicated that the effects of N addition on plant diversity varied depending

Further Results on Delay-distribution-dependent Robust Stability Criteria for Delayed Systems

This paper concerns the robust stability analysis of uncertain systems with time delays as random variables drawn from some probability distribution. The delay-distribution-dependent criteria for the exponential stability of the original system in mean square sense are achieved by Lyapunov functional method and the linear matrix inequality （LMI） technique. The proposed approach involves neither free weighting matrices nor any model transformation, and it shows that the new criteria can provide less conservative results than some existing ones. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and the benefits of the proposed method.

Phonon engineering significantly reducing thermal conductivity of thermoelectric materials: a review

Lattice thermal conductivity, κL, is a fundamental parameter for evaluating the performance of thermoelectric materials. However, the predicted value of κL based on the Debye dispersion model is often overestimated compared with the experimentally determined *** researchers have attempted to modify the theoretical model and have sought more reliable results. In this review,the recent progress in the study of phonon dispersion models is summarized and we propose that the lattice thermal conductivity can be most accurately determined by using the modified sinusoidal phonon dispersion ***, experimental methods that have the potential to reduce a thermoelectric material's κLare reviewed, for example, methods that generate standing waves or anharmonic lattice vibrations. A high concentration of standing waves and anharmonic lattice vibrations can effectively suppress excessive κL. Finally, this review presents the challenges of sinusoidal phonon dispersion when applied to real materials, which are often complicated and therefore time-consuming, especially when dealing with material defects.

AIM: To investigate the role of overexpression of Bax in apoptotic pathways and the response of human hepatocellular cancer (HCC)-9204 cells to cell death induced by ***: The whole length of Bax cDNA was transfectrd into human HCC-9204 cells by the method of lipofectamine transfection. An inducible MT-Ⅱ regulatory system was constructed, which allowed controlled expression of protein upon addition of ZnSO4 (100 μmol/L) as an external inducer. Stable transfecting inducible expression vector containing Bax gene was performed. Expression of Bax in protein was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. TUNEL and flow cytometry were used to assess the effect of Bax on apoptosis. Colony assay and tetrazolium blue (MTT) assay were used to evaluate the difference in drug sensitivity of HCC-9204 cells after ***: Immunohistochemistry and Western blotting demonstrated that the expression of Bax protein markedly increased in Bax-transfected cells 4 h after the addition cytoplasm and perinuclear region of HCC-9404 cells, and there was ectopic expression in cells with marked condensation of chromatin and cytoplasm (apoptotic cells). Apoptotic index significantly increased in Bax-transfected HCC-9204/Bax cells (3.6 vs 27.2, 4.2 vs 32.3, P＜0.05).Flow cytometry analysis showed a significant sub-G1 peak and apoptosis in 15.4% HCC-9204/Bax cells 24 h after treatment. Furthermore, colony survival rate decreased from 66% (HCC-9204/pMD) to 45% (HCC-9204/Bax) 2 dafter ADR withdrawal. MTT assay result showed that the effects of Bax on cell viability following ADR exposure were significant as compared to the vehicle-transfected HCC-9204/pMD cells (21% vs 44%, P＜0.01).CONCLUSION: Overexpression of Bax not only induces apoptosis, but also sensitizes HCC-9204 cells to cell death induced by adriamycin.

MODEL ANALYSIS AND PARAMETER EXTRACTION FOR MOS CAPACITOR INCLUDING QUANTUM MECHANICAL EFFECTS

The high frequency CV curves of MOS capacitor have been studied. It is shown that semiclassical model is a good approximation to quantum model and approaches to classical model when the oxide layer is thick. This conclusion provides us an efficient （semiclassical） model including quantum mechanical effects to do parameter extraction for ultrathin oxide device. Here the effective extracting strategy is designed and numerical experiments demonstrate the validity of the strategy.
