Moderate-Temperature Near-Field Thermophotovoltaic Systems with Thin-Film InSb Cells

Near-field thermophotovoltaic systems functioning at 400-900 K based on graphene-hexagonal-boron-nitride heterostructures and thin-film InSb p-n junctions are investigated *** performances of two near-field systems with different emitters are examined *** near-field system consists of a graphene-hexagonalboron-nitride-graphene sandwiched structure as the emitter,while the other system has an emitter made of the double graphene-hexagonal-boron-nitride *** is shown that both systems exhibit higher output power density and energy efficiency than the near-field system based on mono graphene-hexagonal-boron-nitride *** optimal output power density of the former device can reach 1.3 × 105 W/m2,while the optimal energy efficiency can be as large as 42% of the Carnot *** analyze the underlying physical mechanisms that lead to the excellent performances of the proposed near-field thermophotovoltaic *** results are valuable toward high-performance moderate temperature thermophotovoltaic systems as appealing thermal-to-electric energy conversion(waste heat harvesting) devices.

Topological materials are often characterized by unique edge states which are in turn used to detect different topological phases in ***,with the discovery of various higher-order topological insulators,such spectral topological characteristics are extended from edge states to corner ***,the chiral symmetry protecting the corner states is often broken in genuine materials,leading to vulnerable corner states even when the higher-order topological numbers remain quantized and ***,we show that a local artificial gauge flux can serve as a robust probe of the Wannier type higher-order topological insulators,which is effective even when the chiral symmetry is *** resultant observable signature is the emergence of the cyclic spectral flows traversing one or multiple band *** spectral flows are associated with the local modes bound to the artificial gauge *** phenomenon is essentially due to the cyclic transformation of the Wannier orbitals when the local gauge flux acts on *** extend topological Wannier cycles to systems with C_(2)and C_(3)symmetries and show that they can probe both the bulk and the edge Wannier centers,yielding rich topological phenomena.

We show that the Coulomb interaction between two circuits separated by an insulating layer leads to unconventional thermoelectric effects,such as the cooling by thermal current effect,the transverse thermoelectric effect and Maxwell’s demon *** first refers to cooling in one circuit induced by the thermal current in the other *** middle represents electric power generation in one circuit by the temperature gradient in the other *** physical picture of Coulomb drag between the two circuits is first demonstrated for the case with one quantum dot in each circuit and it is then elaborated for the case with two quantum dots in each *** the latter case,the heat exchange between the two circuits can ***,we also show that the Maxwell’s demon effect can be realized in the four-terminal quantum dot thermoelectric system,in which the quantum system absorbs the heat from the high-temperature heat bath and releases the same heat to the low-temperature heat bath without any energy exchange with the two heat *** study reveals the role of Coulomb interaction in non-local four-terminal thermoelectric transport.

An outdoor propagation measurement campaign for beyond 3G （B3G） as well as a wide-band indoor measurement campaign have been performed recently in Beijing, China, in which the sounding signals are transmitted by an one-antenna base station and received by a two-antenna mobile receiver operated at 3.49～3.51 GHz bandwidth. Different scenarios： stationary line-of-sight （LoS）, stationary non-LoS （NLoS） scenarios, and dynamic NLoS are deliberately chosen in a classic urban environment and office environment. The initial results are presented in this article. Parameters including vector channel impulse response, path loss, rays number, excess delay spread etc. are extracted, analyzed, and briefly reported here.

Effects of urea amended with urease and nitrification inhibitors on soil nematode communities were studied in a Hapli- Udic Argosol （Cambisol, FAO） in Liaoning Province of Northeast China. A completely random design with four treatments, i.e., conventional urea （CU）, slow-release urea amended with a liquid urease inhibitor （SRU1）, SRU1 ＋nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide （SRU2）, and SRU1 ＋ nitrification inhibitor 3,5-dimethylpyrazole （SRU3） and four replicates were applied. Thirty-nine genera of nematodes were identified, with Cephalobus and Aphelenchus being dominant; and in all treatments, the dominant trophic group was bacterivores. In addition, during the growth period of spring wheat （Triticum aestivum L.）, soil urease activity was lower in SRUs than in CU. The numbers of total nematodes and bacterivores at wheat heading and ripening stages, and omnivores-predators at ripening stage were higher in SUR3 than in CU, SRU1 and SRU2 （P 〈 0.05）.

The energy efficiency and output power of a quantum thermoelectric system with multiple electric currents and only one heat current are *** system is connected to the hot heat bath(cold bath)through one terminal(multiple terminals).In such configurations,there are multiple thermoelectric effects coexisting in the *** the Landauer–Buttiker formalism,we show that the cooperation between the two thermoelectric effects in the three-terminal thermoelectric systems can lead to markedly improved performance of the heat *** improvement also occurs in four-terminal thermoelectric heat engines with three output electric *** effects in these multi-terminal thermoelectric systems can considerably enlarge the physical parameter region that realizes high energy efficiency and output *** refrigeration,we find that the energy efficiency can also be substantially improved by exploiting the cooperative effects in multi-terminal thermoelectric *** these results reveal a useful approach toward high-performance thermoelectric energy conversion in multi-terminal mesoscopic systems.

We theoretically propose a reconfigurable two-dimensional(2 D)hexagonal sonic crystal with higher-order topology protected by the six-fold,C6,rotation *** acoustic band gap and band topology can be controlled by rotating the triangular scatterers in each unit *** the nontrivial phase,the sonic crystal realizes the topological spin Hall effect in a higher-order fashion:(i)the edge states emerging in the bulk band gap exhibit partial spin-momentum correlation and are gapped due to the reduced spatial symmetry at the edges.(ii)The gapped edge states,on the other hand,stabilize the topological corner states emerging in the edge band *** partial spin-momentum correlation is manifested as pseudo-spin-polarization of edge states away from the time-reversal invariant momenta,where the pseudospin is emulated by the acoustic orbital angular *** reveal the underlying topological mechanism using a corner topological index based on the symmetry representation of the acoustic Bloch bands.

In order to reduce the sintering temperature and improve the preparing conditions of alumina bioceramics,the Mg-Zr-Y composite solid phase additives were added into high purity Al 2O 3 micro-powder by chemical coprecipitation *** powder was shaped under 200MPa cold isostatic pressure,and then the biscuits were sintered at 1600℃ under normal *** sintered alumina materials were tested and the sintering mechanism was *** results show that physical properties of the material were improved *** Mg-Zr-Y composite solid additives could promote the sintering of alumina bioceramics and the mechanism is solid phase sintering.
