Functional paragangliomas of the urinary bladder:a report of 9 cases

Background and Objective: Functional paraganglioma of the urinary bladder (FPUB) is a rare tumor. Misdiagnosis of FPUB before operation can lead to serious intraoperative consequences. In this article, we reported our experience in preoperative diagnosis and surgical treatment of FPUB. Methods: Clinical data of nine patients with FPUB treated between June 1985 and January 2009 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital were analyzed. Results: All patients underwent urinary catecholamine (CA) detection, B-ultrasound, CT and/or MRI scan; 5 underwent nailfola microcirculation inspection; 4 underwent 131I-metaiodobenzyl guanidine (MIBG) detection; and 6 underwent 111In-DTPA-Octreotide (OCT) scintiscan. According to the UICC bladder tumor classification, 5 patients had T2, 3 had T3, and 1 had T4 disease. All patients underwent surgical treatment, and 1 received 131I-MIBG therapy. All patients had paroxysmal hypertension and palpitation and six had cold sweat, headache, and dizziness after emphatic urination. The definitive diagnosis was made by histopathologic examination of the removed tumors and was confirmed in 7 cases by the immunohistochemical staining of chromogranin A, Ki-67 and S100 protein. The tumor consisted of discrete aggregates of zellballen cells separated by a network of vascular channels. One patient had metastases in the pelvic lymph nodes, liver and colon. Follow-up ranged from 7 to 289 months (mean, 127.2 ± 34.2). Six of the nine cases reported here were found in the usual locations. One patient had multiple tumors. The catecholamine level was elevated under basal conditions in 8 patients and during endoscopic resection of the tumor in 1 patient; it returned to normal after surgery in 8 patients. Three patients had recurrence and 1 had metastasis following surgery. Dyestuffresidue, a type of hazardous waste, is incinerated in the tubular furnace, and thermodynamic equilibrium model is used to calculate and analyze the chlorine behavior. The HCI emission and its effects on the behaviors of heavy metals are studied. Meanwhile, the effects of three dechlorine reagents are predicted at a high temperature. Results show that HCI emission is dependent on incineration temperature. The HCl evaporated mainly derives from the organic chlorine. Under the working condition of 500-- 900℃, the main products of rig, Pb, Cu, Ni, Zn, and Mn in reaction with HCl are HgCl2 （g）, PbCl4（g）, PbCI2 （g）, （CuCl）3 （g）, NiCl2 （s）, NiCl2 （g）, ZnCl2 （s）, ZnCl2 （g）, Zn （g）, MnCl2 （s）, and MnCl2 （g）, respectively. Among the three dechlorine reagents, CaCO3 is optimal to remove chlorine at high temperature, little of HCl is released below 800℃, whereas Fe3O4 is unstable at high temperature.

Bioturbation plays an important role in enhancing the reservoir capacity of tight *** study aims to understand the alteration mechanism and effects of bioturbation on oil and gas reservoirs,to clarify the key control factors and constraints influencing the production of *** petrophysical characteristics of bioturbation and host sediments in carbonate rocks,such as mineral composition,pore spaces,porosity and permeability,were studied based on the detailed observation and description of the Ordovician cores from the Tahe *** effect of bioturbation on petrophysical properties of carbonate rocks were carefully *** results show:(1)Two types of bioturbation,Thalassinoides-like burrows and Planolites-like burrows,mainly occur in the Ordovician cores of the Tahe oilfield,ranging from the Lower-Middle Ordovician Yingshan Formation to the Middle Ordovician Yijianfang *** burrow-fills are mainly composed of dolomite with subhedral and euhedral *** host sediments mainly consist of micrite.(2)The pores in the host sediments are poorly developed and are incapable of forming effective reservoir ***,well-developed intercrystalline pores among dolomites and microfractures in bioturbated sediments with better connectivity can form effective pore *** results of porosity and permeability show that the host sediments without bioturbation are characterized by poor porosity and ***,with the increase of bioturbation intensity,the porosity of the bioturbated sediments firstly increases and then decreases,whereas the permeability increases all the time.(3)Multiple burrows overprinted in the Ordovician carbonate rocks,forming a large-scale bioturbated carbonate rocks with lateral continuity and vertical connectivity,due to the suitable sedimentary setting,ecological conditions,favorable spatiotemporal sediment matching,and abundant organism-substrate ***,diagenesis(particular

Background A full-energy LINAC is under development at Wuhan Advanced Light Source(WALS)to provide beams for the 1.5 GeV storage ring proposed as a fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source and a future free electron laser(FEL)*** LINAC starts from a photoinjector that is able to produce electron beams with low emittance(<1 mm·mrad),small relative energy spread(<0.5%),and high bunch charge(~1 nC).Purpose and methods To minimize the output emittance and RMS bunch length for the purpose of improving the photoinjector brightness,the influence of different laser pulse profiles on the slice emittance is investigated,and the beam dynamics simulation is performed with non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II(NSGA-II)combining with ASTRA code to find the optimal solution at a bunch charge of 1 *** and conclusion In this paper,the beam dynamics optimization of the photoinjector is presented in detail;the simulation results imply that the laser pulse profile with 1σtruncated Gaussian distribution in transverse and flat-top-like temporal distribution is beneficial to the improvement of beam brightness of the photoinjector,which shows an output emittance of 0.63 mm·mrad in the case of intrinsic thermal emittance of 0.43 mm·mrad.

AIM: To investigate whether KAI1, as a metastasis suppressor gene, is associated with invasive and metastatic ability of pancreatic cancer ***: KAI1 gene was transfected into pancreatic cancer cell line MiaPaCa Ⅱ by liposomes selected with G418. Expression of transfected cells was measured by Western blotting, immunofluorescence and immunocytochemistry. Tumor cell invasion and metastatic ability were detected through gelatinase activity and reconstituted basement membrane (Matrigel) assay. pCMV-KAI1 was directly injected into the heterotopic human pancreatic adenocarcinoma successfully established in the groin of BALB/C nude mice, by subcutaneous injection of MiaPaCa Ⅱ pancreatic cancer cells. The statistical analysis between groups was determined by Student's two tailed t ***: By Western blotting, MiaPaCa Ⅱ cells transfected by KAI1 gene indicated KAI1 expression at approximately 29.1 kDa. Cytoplasm staining was positive and uniformly spread in transfected cancer cells, using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. The most obvious difference was present after 30 h (MiaPaca Ⅱ 43.6 ± 9.42, pCMV-MiaPaca Ⅱ 44.8 ± 8.56, pCMV-KAI1-MiaPaca Ⅱ 22.0 ± 4.69, P < 0.05). Gelatinolysis revealed a wider and clearer band of gelatinolytic activity in non-transfected than in transfected cells (MiaPaCa Ⅱ cells 30.8 ± 0.57, transfected cells 28.1 ± 0.65, P < 0.05). In vivo tumor growth rates of KAI1 transfectants with KAI1-Lipofectamine 1.22 ± 0.31 in A group were lower than control 4.61 ± 1.98 and pCMV-KAI 11.67 ± 0.81. Analyses of metastases with and without KAI1 transfection in mice were different in liver and lung between controls 1.62 ± 0.39, 0.45 ± 0.09, pCMV-KAI 1.01 ± 0.27, 0.33 ± 0.09 and KAI1-Lipofectamine 0.99 ± 0.21, 0.30 ± 0.09 respectively (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: High expression of KAI1 gene was found in transfected MiaPaCa Ⅱ human pancreatic cancer cells with lower metastatic ability.
