Distribution patterns and industry planning of commonly used traditional Chinese medicinal plants in China

Medicinal plants are the primary material basis for disease prevention and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The conservation and sustainable utilization of these medicinal plants is critical for the development of the TCM industry.However,wild medicinal plant resources have sharply declined in recent decades.To ameliorate the shortage of medicinal plant resources,it is essential to explore the development potential of the TCM industry in different geographical regions.For this purpose,we examined the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plants in China,the number of Chinese medicinal material markets,and the number of TCM decoction piece enterprises.Specifically,multispecies superimposition analysis and Thiessen polygons were used to reveal the optimal range for planting bulk medicinal plants and the ideal regions for building Chinese medicinal material markets,respectively.Furthermore,we quantitatively analyzed mismatches between the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plant richness,Chinese medicinal material markets,and TCM decoction piece enterprises.We found that the areas suitable for growing commonly used medicinal plants in China were mainly distributed in Hengduan Mountain,Nanling Mountain,Wuling Mountain,and Daba Mountain areas.The Thiessen polygon network based on Chinese medicinal material market localities showed there are currently fewer markets in southwestern,northwestern,and northeastern China than in central and southern China.TCM decoction piece enterprises are concentrated in a few provinces,such as Hebei and jiangxi.We found that the distribution of commonly used medicinal plants,Chinese medicinal material markets and TCM decoction piece enterprises are mismatched in Henan,Shaanxi,Hunan,Hubei,Zhejiang,Fujian,Chongqing,and Xizang.We recommend strengthening development of the TCM industry in Henan,Hunan,Zhejiang,Shaanxi,Hubei,Chongqing,Fujian,and Xizang;building more Chinese medicinal material markets in southwestern,northwestern,and northeastern China;and e

Dramatic impact of metric choice on biogeographical regionalization

For a quantitative biogeographical regionalization,the choice of an appropriate dissimilarity index to measure pairwise distances is crucial.Several different metrics have been used,but there is no specific study to test the impact of metric choice on biogeographical regionalization.We herein applied a hierarchical cluster analysis on the mean nearest taxon distance(MNTD)and the phylogenetic turnover component of the SФrensen dissimilarity index(pβsim)pairwise distances to generate two schemes of phylogenetic regio nalization of the Chinese flora,and then evaluated the effect of metric choice.Floristic regionalization based on MNTD was influenced by richness differences,but regionalization based on pβsim can clearly reflect the evolutionary history of the Chinese flora.We provided a brief description of the five regions identified by pβsim,and the regionalization can help develop strategies to effectively conserve the taxa and floristic regions with different origins and evolutionary histories.

The flora of China is well known for its high diversity and endemism. Identifying centers of endemism and designating conservation priorities are essential goals for biodiversity studies.However, there is no comprehensive study from a rigorous phylogenetic perspective to understand patterns of diversity and endemism and to guide biodiversity conservation in China. We conducted a spatial phylogenetic analysis of the Chinese angiosperm flora at the generic level to identify centers of neo-and paleoendemism. Our results indicate that:(i) themajority of grid cells in China with significantly high phylogenetic endemism(PE) were located in the mountainous regions;(ii) four of the nine centers of endemism recognized, located in northern and western China, were recognized for the first time;(iii) arid and semiarid regions in Northwest China were commonly linked to significant PE, consistent with other spatial phylogenetic studies worldwide;and(iv) six highpriority conservation gaps were detected by overlaying the boundaries of China’s nature reserves on all significant PE cells. Overall, we conclude that the mountains of southern and northern China contain both paleo-endemics(ancient relictual lineages) and neo-endemics(recently diverged lineages). The areas we highlight as conservation priorities are important for broad-scale planning, especially in the context of evolutionary history preservation.

A modified stochastic model for LS+AR hybrid method and its application in polar motion short-term prediction

Short-term(up to 30 days)predictions of Earth Rotation Parameters(ERPs)such as Polar Motion(PM:PMX and PMY)play an essential role in real-time applications related to high-precision reference frame conversion.Currently,least squares(LS)+auto-regressive(AR)hybrid method is one of the main techniques of PM prediction.Besides,the weighted LS+AR hybrid method performs well for PM short-term prediction.However,the corresponding covariance information of LS fitting residuals deserves further exploration in the AR model.In this study,we have derived a modified stochastic model for the LS+AR hybrid method,namely the weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method.By using the PM data products of IERS EOP 14 C04,the numerical results indicate that for PM short-term forecasting,the proposed weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method shows an advantage over both the LS+AR hybrid method and the weighted LS+AR hybrid method.Compared to the mean absolute errors(MAEs)of PMX/PMY sho rt-term prediction of the LS+AR hybrid method and the weighted LS+AR hybrid method,the weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method shows average improvements of 6.61%/12.08%and 0.24%/11.65%,respectively.Besides,for the slopes of the linear regression lines fitted to the errors of each method,the growth of the prediction error of the proposed method is slower than that of the other two methods.

Improved LS+MAR hybrid method to UT1-UTC ultra-short-term prediction by using first-order-difference UT1-UTC

Accurate ultra-short-term prediction of the Earth rotation parameters(ERP) holds paramount importance for real-time applications, particularly in reference frame conversion. Among them, diurnal rotation(UT1-UTC) which cannot be directly estimated through Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)techniques, significantly affects the rapid and ultra-rapid orbit determination of GNSS satellites. Presently, the traditional LS(least squares) + AR(autoregressive) and LS + MAR(multivariate autoregressive)hybrid methods stand as primary approaches for UT1-UTC ultra-short-term predictions(1-10 days). The LS + MAR hybrid method relies on the UT1-UTC and LOD(length of day) series. However, the correlation between LOD and first-order-difference UT1-UTC is stronger than that between LOD and UT1-UTC. In light of this, and with the aid of the first-order-difference UT1-UTC, we propose an enhanced LS + MAR hybrid method to UT1-UTC ultra-short-term prediction. By using the UT1-UTC and LOD data series of the IERS(International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service) EOP 14 C04 product, we conducted a thorough analysis and evaluation of the improved method's prediction performance compared to the traditional LS + AR and LS + MAR hybrid methods. According to the numerical results over more than210 days, they demonstrate that, when considering the correlation information between the LOD and the first-order-difference UT1-UTC, the mean absolute errors(MAEs) of the improved LS + MAR hybrid method range from 21 to 934 μs in 1-10 days predictions. In comparison to the traditional LS + AR hybrid method, the MAEs show a reduction of 7-53 μs in 1-10 days predictions, with corresponding improvement percentages ranging from 1 to 28%. Similarly, when compared to the traditional LS + MAR hybrid method, the MAEs have a reduction of 5-42 μs in 1-10 days predictions, with corresponding improvement percentages ranging from 4-20%. BACKGROUND Developmental dysplasia of the hip(DDH)is a common osteoarticular deformity in pediatric orthopedics.A patient with bilateral DDH was diagnosed and treated using our improved technique"(powerful overturning acetabuloplasty)"combined with femoral rotational shortening osteotomy.CASE SUMMARY A 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with bilateral DDH could not stand normally,and sought surgical treatment to solve the problem of double hip extension and standing.As this child had high dislocation of the hip joint and the acetabular index was high,we changed the traditional acetabuloplasty to"powerful turnover acetabuloplasty"combined with femoral rotation shortening osteotomy.During the short-term postoperative follow-up(1,3,6,9,12,and 15 months),the child had no discomfort in her lower limbs.After the braces and internal fixation plates were removed,formal rehabilitation training was actively carried out.CONCLUSION Our"powerful overturning acetabuloplasty"combined with femoral rotational shortening osteotomy is feasible in the treatment of DDH in children.This technology may be widely used in the clinic.

Evaluating the performance and influencing factors of three portable black carbon monitors for field measurement

Black carbon(BC)is associated with adverse human health and climate change.Mapping BC spatial distribution imperatively requires low-cost and portable devices.Several portable BC monitors are commercially available,but their accuracy and reliability are not always satisfactory during continuous field observation.This study evaluated three models of portable black carbon monitors,C12,MA350 and DST,and investigates the factors that affect their performance.The monitors were tested in urban Beijing,where portable devices running for one month alongside a regular-size reference aethalometer AE33.The study considers several factors that could influence the monitors'performance,including ambient weather,aerosol composition,loading artifacts,and built-in algorithms.The results show that MA350and DST present considerable discrepancies to the reference instrument,mainly occurring at lower concentrations(0-500 ng/m^(3))and higher concentrations(2500-8000 ng/m^(3)),respectively.These discrepancies were likely caused by the anomalous noise of MA350 and the loading artifacts of DST.The study also suggests that the ambient environment has limited influence on the monitors'performance,but loading artifacts and accompanying compensation algorithms can result in unrealistic data.Based on the evaluation,the study suggests that C12 is the best choice for unsupervised field measurement,DST should be used in scenarios where frequent maintenance is available,and MA350 is suitable for research purposes with post-processing applicable.The study highlights the importance of assigning portable BC monitors to appropriate applications and the need for optimized real-time compensation algorithms.

A new liquid membrane diffusion model for characterizing the adsorption kinetics of europium by using a continuous measurement of adsorption platform

To explore the kinetic adsorption under continuous and nonequilibrium states, an integration of continuous measurement and adsorption platform kinetics method was proposed, which was initially called the ICM-AP kinetics method, and a corresponding kinetic adsorption experimental method was developed. Adsorption experiments of europium(Eu) on Ca-bentonite,Na-bentonite, and the D231 cation exchange resin were performed using the ICM-AP kinetics method and continuous measurements. Because the kinetic experimental results observed in this study were different from those of traditional batch adsorption data, pseudo-first-order or pseudo-second-order kinetic models were unsuitable for fitting the experimental data.Hence, a liquid membrane diffusion(LMD) model was developed based on the assumption of simultaneous adsorption/desorption to discuss the mechanism of kinetic adsorption. The kinetic adsorption mechanism was also studied by using XPS.The results indicated that the proposed adsorption model can fit the experimental data more suitably, and the adsorption/desorption behaviors of Eu on bentonite and the D231 resin were simultaneously observed, suggesting that the adsorption kinetics of Eu(Ⅲ) was mainly dominated by hydrated Eu(Ⅲ) ions on the liquid membrane.

Electrolyte effect on electrochemical behaviors of manganese fluoride material for aqueous asymmetric and symmetric supercapacitors

Exploring wide voltage window materials is not only an available measure to enhance the energy density of hybrid supercapacitor(HSCs),but also avoids the dynamic mismatch caused by different energy storage mechanisms of two electrodes in assembled symmetrical HSC.However,there are few reports about the wide potential window materials except Bi_(2)O_(3)and VO_(2).Therefore,the MnF_(2)synthesized by solvothermal reaction was served as the electrode for HSC.The MnF_(2)exhibited electrochemical activity in alkaline solution in three-electrode system,especially with a wide potential window from-0.8 to+0.5 V in 2 mol·L^(-1)NaOH.Furthermore,the assembled MnF_(2)//MnF_(2)symmetrical HSC had a potential window of 1.5 V,and it exhibited outstanding long-cycle capability.Meanwhile,when MnF_(2)was taken as the negative and positive respectively,the potential windows of asymmetric devices CoMoO_(4)//MnF_(2)and MnF_(2)//Activated Carbon(AC)could reach 1.3 and 1.45 V,respectively,showing excellent cycle stability.This work shows that MnF_(2)material has great research value in HSC,and provides a new research direction for developing high-performance devices.
