Absence of metallicity and bias-dependent resistivity in low-carrier-density EuCd_(2)As_(2)

EuCd_(2)As_(2)was theoretically predicted to be a minimal model of Weyl semimetals with a single pair of Weyl points in the ferromagnet ***,the heavily p-doped Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)crystals in previous experiments prevent direct identification of the semimetal ***,we present a comprehensive magneto-transport study of high-quality Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)crystals with ultralow bulk carrier density(10^(13.cm^(-3.).In contrast to the general expectation of a Weyl semimetal phase,Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)shows insulating behavior in both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states as well as surface-dominated conduction from band ***,the application of a dc bias current can dramatically modulate the resistance by over one order of magnitude,and induce a periodic resistance oscillation due to the geometric *** nonlinear transport results from the high nonequilibrium state induced by an electrical field near the band *** results suggest an insulating phase in Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)and put a strong constraint on the underlying mechanism of anomalous transport properties in this system.

Insufficient TRPM5 Mediates Lipotoxicity-induced Pancreaticβ-cell Dysfunction

Objective:While the reduction of transient receptor potential channel subfamily M member 5(TRPM5)has been reported in islet cells from type 2 diabetic(T2D)mouse models,its role in lipotoxicity-induced pancreaticβ-cell dysfunction remains *** study aims to study its ***:Pancreas slices were prepared from mice subjected to a high-fat-diet(HFD)at different time points,and TRPM5 expression in the pancreaticβcells was examined using immunofluorescence ***-stimulated insulin secretion(GSIS)defects caused by lipotoxicity were mimicked by saturated fatty acid palmitate(Palm).Primary mouse islets and mouse insulinoma MIN6 cells were treated with Palm,and the TRPM5 expression was detected using qRT-PCR and Western ***-induced GSIS defects were measured following siRNA-based Trpm5 *** detrimental effects of Palm on primary mouse islets were also assessed after overexpressing Trpm5 via an adenovirus-derived Trpm5(Ad-Trpm5).Results:HFD feeding decreased the mRNA levels and protein expression of TRPM5 in mouse pancreatic *** reduced TRPM5 protein expression in a time-and dose-dependent manner in MIN6 *** also inhibited TRPM5 expression in primary mouse *** of Trpm5 inhibited insulin secretion upon high glucose stimulation but had little effect on insulin *** of Trpm5 reversed Palm-induced GSIS defects and the production of functional maturation molecules unique toβ***:Our findings suggest that lipotoxicity inhibits TRPM5 expression in pancreaticβcells both in vivo and in vitro and,in turn,drivesβ-cell dysfunction.

Hydrodynamic characteristics and particle tracking of 90° lateral intakes at an inclined river slope

Lateral intakes are common in *** pump effciency and sediment deposition are determined by the local hydrodynamic characteristics and mainstream division *** hydraulic characteristics of lateral withdrawal from inclined river slopes at different intake elevations should be ***,the division width exhibits significant vertical non-uniformity at an inclined river slope,which should be ***,a three-dimensional(3.D)hydrodynamic and particle-tracking model was developed with the Open Source Field Operation and Manipulation(Open FOAM),and the model was validated with physical model tests for 90°lateral withdrawal from an inclined side *** flow fields,withdrawal sources,and division widths were investigated with different intake bottom elevations,withdrawal discharges,and main channel *** study showed that under inclined side bank conditions,water entered the intake at an oblique angle,causing significant 3.D spiral flows in the intake rather than two-dimensional closed recirculation.A lower withdrawal discharge,a lower bottom elevation of the intake,or a higher main channel velocity could further strengthen this *** average division width and turbulent kinetic energy were smaller under inclined side bank conditions than under vertical bank *** a low intake bottom elevation,a low withdrawal discharge,or a high main channel velocity,the sources of lateral withdrawal were in similar ranges near the local inclined bank in the vertical *** inclined slope conditions,sediment deposition near the intake entrance could be reduced,compared to that under vertical slope *** results provide hydrodynamic and sediment references for engineering designs for natural rivers with inclined terrains.

Pathogen-induced methylglyoxal negatively regulates rice bacterial blight resistance by inhibiting OsCDR1 protease activity

Xanthomonas oryzae ***(Xoo)causes bacterial blight(BB),a globally devastating disease of rice(Oryza sativa)that is responsible for significant crop *** and sugar metabolites are important for pathogen infection,providing energy and regulating events associated with defense responses;howev-er,the mechanisms by which they regulate such events in BB are *** an inevitable sugar metabolite,methylglyoxal(MG)is involved in plant growth and responses to various abiotic stresses,but the underlying mechanisms remain *** and how MG functions in plant biotic stress responses is almost completely ***,we report that the Xoo strain PXO99 induces OsWRKY62.1 to repress transcrip-tion of OsGLY Il genes by directly binding to their promoters,resulting in overaccumulation of *** negatively regulates rice resistance against Pxo99:osglyll2 mutants with higher MG levels are more sus-ceptible to the pathogen,whereas OsGLYIl2-overexpressing plants with lower MG content show greater resistance than the wild *** of OsGLYll2 to prevent excessive MG accumulation confers broad-spectrum resistance against the biotrophic bacterial pathogens Xoo and Xanthomonas oryzae *** and the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Rhizoctonia solani,which causes rice sheath *** evidence shows that MG reduces rice resistance against PXO99 through CONSTITUTIVE DISEASE RESISTANCE 1(OsCDR1).MGmodifies the Arg97 residue of OsCDR1to inhibit its aspartic protease activ-ity,which is essential for OsCDR1-enhanced *** together,these findings illustrate how Xoo promotes infection by hijacking a sugar metabolite in the host plant.

Combined intestinal microbiota and transcriptomic analysis to investigate the effect of different stocking densities on the ability of Pacific white shrimp(Litopenaeus vannamei)to utilize Chlorella sorokiniana

Aiming to investigate the impact of different stocking densities on the ability of Pacific white shrimp(Litopenaeus vannamei)to utilize Chlorella sorokiniana(CHL),a 3.2 factorial design stocking experiment was used in this ***,shrimp was fed with two dietary protein sources(fishmeal[FM]and CHL)at low(LSD;100 per m^(3.),medium(MSD;200 per m^(3.)and high(HSD;3.0 per m^(3.)stocking densities for 8 *** growth performance and resistance to Vibrio parahaemolyticus(1.0×10^(7) CFU/mL)of shrimp decreased with the increase of stocking density,but dietary CHL improved this *** between the CHL and FM groups for *** resistance were significant only under high-density conditions(P<0.05).Significant interactions between stocking density and protein source were found on the activities of catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD)and phenol oxidase(PO),and the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA)in the hepatopancreas and the activities of intestinal amylase,most of which were significantly different between CHL and FM groups only at high stocking density(P<0.05).Analysis of 16S rDNA sequencing showed that dietary CHL increased the alpha diversity of intestinal microbiota,inhibited the colonization of pathogenic bacteria and enhanced the abundance of beneficial *** results showed that at high stocking densities,differentially expressed genes(DEGs)in the FM vs CHL group were mostly upregulated and primarily enriched in immune and metabolic related pathways including Toll,immune deficiency(Imd)and glycolysis–gluconeogenesis *** correlation analysis revealed significant correlation between the top ten intestinal bacteria at the genus level and markedly enriched DEGs,also more were detected under high density *** conclusion,CHL has great potential as a novel protein source in the intensive farming of shrimp.

Synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy was employed to investigate the temperature evolution of the Yb 4 f spectral for surface and bulk in the Kondo lattice YbCu_(2)Si_(2).Our study quantitatively distinguishes between the surface and bulk hybridization processes,revealing that the onset temperatures for both surface and bulk hybridization processes are significantly higher than the Kondo ***,we found that the effective surface Kondo temperature is much lower than that of the *** findings offer valuable insights into the understanding of heavy fermion physics.

The transgenerational effects of maternal low-protein diet during lactation on offspring
