Invertase （INV） hydrolyzes sucrose into glucose and fructose, thereby playing key roles in primary metabolism and plant development. Based on their pH optima and sub-cellular locations, INVs are categorized into cell wall, cytoplasmic, and vacuolar subgroups, abbreviated as CWlN, CIN, and VlN, respectively. The broad importance and implications of INVs in plant development and crop productivity have attracted enormous interest to examine INV function and regulation from multiple perspectives. Here, we review some exciting advances in this area over the last two decades, focusing on （1） new or emerging roles of INV in plant development and regulation at the post-translational level through interaction with inhibitors, （2） cross-talk between INV-mediated sugar signaling and hormonal control of development, and （3） sugar- and INV-mediated responses to drought and heat stresses and their impact on seed and fruit set. Finally, we discuss major questions arising from this new progress and outline future directions for unraveling mechanisms underlying INV-mediated plant development and their potential applications in plant biotechnology and agriculture.

The interplay between Pleistocene climatic variability and hominin adaptations to diverse terrestrial ecosystems is a key topic in human evolutionary studies. Early and Middle Pleistocene environmental change and its relation to hominin behavioural responses has been a subject of great interest in Africa and Europe, though little information is available for other key regions of the Old World, particularly from Eastern Asia. Here we examine key Early Pleistocene sites of the Nihewan Basin, in high-latitude northern China, dating between ～1.4 and 1.0 million years ago(Ma). We compare stone-tool assemblages from three Early Pleistocene sites in the Nihewan Basin, including detailed assessment of stone-tool refitting sequences at the ～1.1-Ma-old site of Cenjiawan. Increased toolmaking skills and technological innovations are evident in the Nihewan Basin at the onset of the Mid-Pleistocene Climate Transition(MPT).Examination of the lithic technology of the Nihewan sites, together with an assessment of other key Palaeolithic sites of China, indicates that toolkits show increasing diversity at the outset of the MPT and in its aftermath. The overall evidence indicates the adaptive flexibility of early hominins to ecosystem changes since the MPT, though regional abandonments are also apparent in high latitudes, likely owing to cold and oscillating environmental conditions. The view presented here sharply contrasts with traditional arguments that stone-tool technologies of China are homogeneous and continuous over the course of the Early Pleistocene.

Epidural fentanyl decreases the minimum local analgesic concentration of epidural lidocaine

Background Epidural lidocaine can be used when regional anesthesia needs to be established quickly, but the effect of co-administering epidural fentanyl on the minimum local analgesic concentration （MLAC） of lidocaine is not known. We compared the MLAC of epidural lidocaine in combination with different doses of fentanyl for epidural anesthesia in adults. Methods One hundred and twenty patients requiring epidural analgesia were randomly allocated to receive 20 ml of one of four solutions： lidocaine, or lidocaine plus fentanyl 1 pg/ml, 2 pg/ml, or 3 pg/ml. The first patient in each group was administered 1% lidocaine weight by volume; subsequent patients received a concentration determined by the response of the previous patient to a higher or lower concentration according to up and down sequential allocation in 0.1% increments. Efficacy was assessed using a visual analog pain scale, and accepted if this was 〈10 mm on a 100 mm scale within 30 minutes. The extent of motor block and of nausea and vomiting were recorded at 30 minutes after administration of the epidural solution and two hours after surgery, respectively. Results The MLAC of lidocaine in those receiving lidocaine alone was 0.785% （95%C/0.738-0.864）. A significant dose-dependent reduction was observed with the addition of fentanyl： the MLAC of lidocaine with fentanyl at 2 pg/ml was 0.596% （95%C/0.537-0.660） and 0.387% with fentanyl at 3 pg/ml （95%C/0.329-0.446, P 〈0.001）. Conclusion Epidural fentanyl significantly reduces the dose of lidocaine required for effective epidural analgesia in adults without causing adverse side effects. （Chi CTR-TRC-11001559）

Twelve cases of the pectoralis major muscle tendon rupture with surgical treatment an average of 6.7-year follow-up

Background Pectoralis major tendon rupture is a relatively rare injury leading to both functional and cosmetic deficiency. The peak torque of the pectoralis major is significantly decreased after conservational treatment of a total rupture. We suppose that surgical intervention is better choice. Methods We retrospectively evaluated 12 patients who were diagnosed with distal pectoralis major muscle rupture and underwent operation in our institute from 1993 to 2007. All patients were male with a mean age of 32 （19-54） years. In 4 patients, tendon reconstruction was accomplished by fixing the tendon to the humerus using sutures passed through predrilled humeral bone tunnels. In 8 patients, tendon reconstruction was accomplished by directly suturing the muscle to the tendon. All patients followed an accelerated rehabilitation protocol. Treatment results were evaluated according to the following criteria：（1） visual analogue pain scale, （2） isokinetic strength measurements, （3） range of motion of shoulder joint, （4） cosmetic result, and （5） postoperative sports activity performance. In this study, we aimed to describe our surgical technique of reconstruction of the rupture of pectoralis major muscle and to summarize the clinical results of the operative treatment. Results At the final follow-up examination （6.5 years postoperatively）, only nine patients were available for evaluation. Three of them had excellent results, and five had good results, while one had poor results. Eight of the patients were able to return to their preinjury level of sporting activity. In summary, 89% of the patients achieved excellent or good results. Conclusion Surgical treatment by anatomic tendon repair and accelerated rehabilitation can make recovery of strength and function of the pectoralis major muscle.

On Frankl and Fredi's Conjecture for 3-uniform Hypergraphs

Frankl and Füredi in [1] conjectured that the r-graph with m edges formed by taking the first m sets in the colex ordering of N^（r） has the largest Lagrangian of all r-graphs with m edges.Denote this r-graph by Cr,m and the Lagrangian of a hypergraph by λ（G）.In this paper,we first show that if（3^t-1） ≤m〈（3^t）,G is a left-compressed 3-graph with m edges and on vertex set[t],the triple with minimum colex ordering in G^c is（t — 2 — i）（t — 2）t,then λ（G） ≤λ（C3,m）.As an implication,the conjecture of Frankl and Fiiredi is true for（3^t）-6≤m≤（3^t）.

Algorithm study of transient response of vertical magnetic bipolar source in whole space plane layered medium

For some time, whole space feature as a theoretical problem has been a puzzle in mining transient electromagnetic method (TEM). We have introduced a detailed method of calculating the transient response of a vertical magnetic bipolar source in a whole space plane layered medium in order to obtain whole space features. After designing a whole space plane layered medium model, equations were established based on boundary conditions in terms of electromagnetic vector potential. Expressions of electromagnetic fields were obtained by solving these equations. The expressions were computed by the Hankel transform after dispersion. The results in a frequency domain were changed into a time domain by using a multinomial cosine transform method. The expressions were correctly validated by comparing them with the analytical solution in half space. The half space and whole space results show that the whole space features are clear, suggesting that the theory of half space is not suitable for the whole space. Our algorithm supplied the technical instrument for studying the distributed features of whole space transient electromagnetic fields.

Stacking single layers of atoms on top of each other provides a fundamental way to achieve novel material systems and engineer their physical properties,which offers opportunities for exploring fundamental physics and realizing next-generation optoelectronic devices.Among the two-dimensional(2D)-stacked systems,transition metal dichalcogenide(TMDC)heterostructures are particularly attractive because they host tightly-bonded interlayer excitons which possess various novel and appealing properties.These interlayer excitons have drawn significant research attention and hold high potential for the application in unique optoelectronic devices,such as polarization-and wavelength-tunable single photon emitters,valley Hall transistors,and possible high-temperature superconductors.The development of these devices requires a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental properties of these interlayer excitons and the impact of electric fields on their behaviors.In this review,we summarize the recent advances on the understanding of interlayer exciton dynamics under electric fields in TMDC heterostructures.We put emphasis on the electrical modulation of interlayer excitons’emission,the valley Hall transport of charge carriers after the separation of interlayer excitons by an electric field,and the correlation physics of interlayer excitons and charges under electrical doping and tuning.Challenges and perspectives are finally discussed for the application of TMDC heterostructures in future optoelectronics.

Adaptive Self-Assembly and Induced-Fit Interconversions between Molecular Borromean Rings,Russian Dolls and Ring-in-Ring Complexes

Herein,we report an artificially assembled interlocked system that features adaptive self-assembly and induced-fit transformation properties in the presence of appropriate guest molecules.By careful choice of solvent and guests,a molecular Borromean rings complex based on organometallic half-sandwich units could be transformed in a stepwise manner to a ring-in-ring complex and a monomeric rectangle,leading to a conversion cycle between these structures.This adaptive self-assembly method was further applied to the construction of a Russian dolls complex,forming another conversion cycle composed of a molecular Borromean rings complex,a Russian dolls complex and a monomeric rectangle.A comprehensive map showing all of the structural transformations between these metallarectangles and interlocked species is drawn up,representing a recoverable and recyclable transformation mechanism.

本实验以苗龄为90 d的暗紫贝母芽繁苗为实验材料,在组培生根培养过程中添加不同浓度的激素和糖分,研究其对暗紫贝母生根的影响,筛选出暗紫贝母的最适生根培养基。结果表明:在生根培养基为基本培养基(MS)+9.4 g·L^(-1)卡拉胶(car)+0.5 mL·L^(-1)萘乙酸(NAA)+0.5 mL·L^(-1)吲哚丁酸(IBA)+30 g·L^(-1)蔗糖时暗紫贝母生根情况最好,生根率高达81.3%,根系粗壮,且有效根数最多,平均每株有3.4条根系,且没有被污染。本研究为以后建立暗紫贝母组培快繁体系、大规模标准化生产优良暗紫贝母种苗提供参考。

Microfacies and diagenetic alteration in a semi-deep to deep lacustrine shale: The Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin, China

The mineralogical development and diagenetic sequence of lacustrine shales in the Chang 7 Member of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin are detailed studied. A model of their depositional system and a diagenetic diagram are proposed in this study. Through detailed petrographic, mineralogical, and elemental analyses, four distinct shale types are identified: argillaceous shale, siliceous shale, calcareous shale, and carbonate, clay, and silt-bearing shale. The main diagenetic process in argillaceous shale is the transformation of illite to smectite, negatively impacting shale porosity. Siliceous shale undergoes carbonate cementation and quartz dissolution, contributing to increased porosity, particularly in mesopores.Calcareous shale experiences diagenesis characterised by carbonate formation and dissolution, with a prevalence of siderite. In carbonate, clay, and silt-bearing shale, the dissolution of K-feldspar contributes to illitization of kaolinite. Argillaceous shale, characterised by more clay minerals and lower mesopore volume, is identified as a potential hydrocarbon seal. Siliceous shale, with the highest pore volume and abundant inter-mineral pores, emerges as a promising shale oil reservoir. These findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of shale properties, aiding in the prediction of shale oil exploration potential in the studied area.
