Micromechanism and mathematical model of stress sensitivity in tight reservoirs of binary granular medium

Research on reservoir rock stress sensitivity has traditionally focused on unary granular structures,neglecting the binary nature of real reservoirs, especially tight reservoirs. Understanding the stresssensitive behavior and mathematical characterization of binary granular media remains a challenging task. In this study, we conducted online-NMR experiments to investigate the permeability and porosity evolution as well as stress-sensitive control mechanisms in tight sandy conglomerate samples. The results revealed stress sensitivity coefficients between 0.042 and 0.098 and permeability damage rates ranging from 65.6% to 90.9%, with an average pore compression coefficient of 0.0168—0.0208 MPa 1.Pore-scale compression occurred in three stages: filling, compression, and compaction, with matrix pores playing a dominant role in pore compression. The stress sensitivity of binary granular media was found to be influenced by the support structure and particle properties. High stress sensitivity was associated with small fine particle size, high fines content, high uniformity coefficient of particle size,high plastic deformation, and low Young's modulus. Matrix-supported samples exhibited a high irreversible permeability damage rate(average = 74.2%) and stress sensitivity coefficients(average = 0.089),with pore spaces more slit-like. In contrast, grain-supported samples showed low stress sensitivity coefficients(average = 0.021) at high stress stages. Based on the experiments, we developed a mathematical model for stress sensitivity in binary granular media, considering binary granular properties and nested interactions using Hertz contact deformation and Poiseuille theory. By describing the change in activity content of fines under stress, we characterized the non-stationary state of compressive deformation in the binary granular structure and classified the reservoir into three categories. The prognostic value of collateral circulation in coronary chronic total occlusion underwent percutaneous coronary intervention

BACKGROUND The prognostic value of coronary collateral circulation(CC)in patients undergoing chronic total occlusion(CTO)percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is underdetermined.The purpose of the study was to assess the prognostic value of current two CC grading systems and their association with long-term outcomes in patients with CTO underwent PCI.METHODS We consecutively enrolled patients with single-vessel CTO underwent PCI between January 2010 and December2013.All patients were categorized into well-developed or poor-developed collaterals group according to angiographic Werner's CC(grade 2 vs.grade 0–1)or Rentrop(grade 3 vs.grade 0–2)grading system.The primary endpoint was 5-year cardiac death.RESULTS Of 2452 enrolled patients,the overall technical success rate was 74.1%.Well-developed collaterals were present in686 patients(28.0%)defined by Werner's CC grade 2,and in 1145 patients(46.7%)by Rentrop grade 3.According to Werner's CC grading system,patients with well-developed collaterals had a lower rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with those with poordeveloped collaterals(1.6%vs.3.3%,P=0.02),those with suboptimal recanalization was associated with higher rate of 5-year cardiac death compared with optimal recanalization(4.7%vs.0.8%,P=0.01)and failure patients(4.7%vs.1.6%,P=0.12).However,the similar effect was not shown in Rentrop grading system.CONCLUSIONS In patients with the single-vessel CTO underwent PCI,well-developed collaterals by Werner's CC definition were associated with lower rate of 5-year cardiac death.Werner's CC grading system had a greater prognostic value than Rentrop grading system in patients with CTO underwent PCI.

Downregulation of EphB2 by RNA interference attenuates glial/fibrotic scar formation and promotes axon growth

The rapid formation of a glial/fibrotic scar is one of the main factors hampering axon growth after spinal cord injury. The bidirectional Eph B2/ephrin-B2 signaling of the fibroblast-astrocyte contact-dependent interaction is a trigger for glial/fibrotic scar formation. In the present study, a new in vitro model was produced by coculture of fibroblasts and astrocytes wounded by scratching to mimic glial/fibrotic scar-like structures using an improved slide system. After treatment with RNAi to downregulate Eph B2, changes in glial/fibrotic scar formation and the growth of VSC4.1 motoneuron axons were examined. Following RNAi treatment, fibroblasts and astrocytes dispersed without forming a glial/fibrotic scar-like structure. Furthermore, the expression levels of neurocan, NG2 and collagen I in the coculture were reduced, and the growth of VSC4.1 motoneuron axons was enhanced. These findings suggest that suppression of Eph B2 expression by RNAi attenuates the formation of a glial/fibrotic scar and promotes axon growth. This study was approved by the Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee of jiangsu Province, China(approval No. 2019-0506-002) on May 6, 2019.

BACKGROUND Accurate assessment of the quality of academic journals is of great significance.While Journal Impact Factor(JIF),calculated by Clarivate and based upon the Web of Science literature database,and CiteScore(CS),developed by Elseiver and based upon the Scopus database,have enjoyed high uptake worldwide,efforts continue towards creation of other scientometric indexes that will provide evergreater qualitative insights into journal impact.Such efforts have yielded the newly-launched Journal Article Influence Index(JAII),which is based on the Reference Citation Analysis(RCA)database,an open multidisciplinary citation analysis database based on artificial intelligence technology.AIM To evaluate and summarize the similarities and differences between JAII and JIF/CS as journal evaluation indicators,and provide an intuitive method for visual representation of the related data.METHODS We searched the Journal Citation Reports to obtain the 2021 JIF list,downloaded the CS list updated in July on the Scopus website,and collected the comprehensive list of 2022 JAIIs from the RCA database(***).RESULTS Our research results revealed that by breaking through the time limit of mainstream journalevaluation methods, the JAII is able to perform well in data reliability, establishing its benefit as acomplementary scientometric index to JIF and CS.CONCLUSIONJAII provides comprehensive assessment of the quality and performance of journals.

Experimental study of the effect of gas discharge on ionic liquid electrospray

Ionic liquid electrospray(ILE) in an atmospheric environment is often accompanied by the gas discharge phenomenon. It interferes with the normal operation of the electrospray and the measurement of experimental parameters. In this study, electrospray experiments were conducted on the ionic liquid EMI-BF4. The observations revealed that the operating modes of the ionic liquid depend on the voltage polarity at high voltages. Additionally, a correspondence between the operating mode of ILE and the current signal in the circuit was established. The shape of the liquid cone formed at the needle tip bore a striking resemblance to the plume of corona discharge, suggesting that the motion trajectory of electrons influenced the curvature of the liquid cone. Steamer theory provided a clear explanation for the change in curvature as the voltage increased.

The blood circulatory system is the largest system of fluid flow in the human body,and it has been widely studied and well understood.Pulsation characterizes the blood circulatory system and results in three essentials,including(i)pressure fluctuations attributed to pumping of the heart,(ii)the self-regulatory,elastic cardiac muscle,which is sensitive to pressure variance and controls the output volume of the heart,and(iii)valves controlling the one-way flow.

Comparison of three fundus inspection methods during phacoemulsification in diabetic white cataract

AIM:To investigate whether Wild Field Imaging System(WFIS SW-8000),25G endoilluminator,and intraoperative optical coherence tomography(iOCT)can perform realtime screening and diagnosing in patients with suspicious diabetic retinopathy(DR)during phacoemulsification,especially in cases of white cataract.METHODS:A cross-sectional study was carried out.A total of 204 dense diabetic cataractous eyes of 204 patients with suspected DR treated from April 2020 to March 2021 were included.Phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation was performed.Following the removal of the lens opacity,the 25G endoilluminator,fundus photography,and iOCT were performed successively.Optical coherence tomography(OCT)and/or fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA)were used to verify the fundus findings postoperatively.Intraoperative and postoperative results were compared to verify the accuracy of intraoperative diagnosis in each group.RESULTS:Intraoperative and postoperative examinations revealed 58 and 62 eyes with DR,respectively(positive rate,28.43%and 30.39%,respectively).During the phacoemulsification,WFIS SW-8000 detected 44 eyes with DR(the detection rate,70.97%);25G endo-illuminator found 56 eyes with DR(the detection rate,90.32%);iOCT found 46 eyes with DR(the detection rate,74.19%);and 58 eyes with DR were found by combining the three methods(the detection rate,93.55%).There were statistically significant differences in the diagnostic sensitivity for DR among the methods(χ^(2)=16.36,P=0.001).CONCLUSION:WFIS SW-8000,25G endo-illuminator,iOCT,and especially their combination can be used to inspect the fundus and detect DR intraoperatively;they are helpful for the timely diagnosis and treatment of DR in patients with dense cataract.

BACKGROUND Knee osteoarthritis(KOA)is a common orthopedic condition with an uncertain etiology,possibly involving genetics and biomechanics.Factors like changes in chondrocyte microenvironment,oxidative stress,inflammation,and immune responses affect KOA development.Early-stage treatment options primarily target symptom relief.Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)show promise for treatment,despite challenges.Recent research highlights microRNAs(miRNAs)within MSC-released extracellular vesicles that can potentially promote cartilage regeneration and hinder KOA progression.This suggests exosomes(Exos)as a promising avenue for future treatment.While these findings emphasize the need for effective KOA progression management,further safety and efficacy validation for Exos is essential.AIM To explore miR-29a’s role in KOA,we’ll create miR-29a-loaded vesicles,testing for early treatment in rat models.METHODS Extraction of bone marrow MSC-derived extracellular vesicles,preparation of engineered vesicles loaded with miR-29a using ultrasonication,and identification using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction;after establi-shing a rat model of KOA,rats were randomly divided into three groups:Blank control group injected with saline,normal extracellular vesicle group injected with normal extracellular vesicle suspension,and engineered extrace-llular vesicle group injected with engineered extracellular vesicle suspension.The three groups evaluation,histological detection,and immunohistochemical detection to compare and evaluate the progress of various forms of arthritis.RESULTS General behavioral observation results showed that the extracellular vesicle group and engineered extracellular vesicle group had better performance in all four indicators of pain,gait,joint mobility,and swelling compared to the blank control group.Additionally,the engineered extracellular vesicle group had better pain relief at 4 wk and better knee joint mobility at 8 wk compared to the normal extracellular vesicle group.Imaging examinat

High-performance fiber-shaped power sources are anticipated to considerably contribute to the continuous development of smart wearable devices.As one-/two-dimensional(1D/2D)frameworks constructed from graphene sheets,graphene fibers and fabrics inherit the merits of graphene,including its lightweight nature,high electrical conductivity,and exceptional mechanical strength.The as-fabricated graphene fiber/fabric flexible supercapacitor(FSC)is,therefore,regarded as a promis-ing candidate for next-generation wearable energy storage devices owing to its high energy/power density,adequate safety,satisfactory flexibility,and extended cycle life.The gap between practical applications and experimental demonstrations of FSC is drastically reduced as a result of technological advancements.To this end,herein,recent advancements of FSCs in fiber element regulation,fiber/fabric construction,and practical applications are methodically reviewed and a forecast of their growth is presented.

Experimental study on the deformation behaviour,energy evolution law and failure mechanism of tectonic coal subjected to cyclic loads

Compared to intact coal,tectonic coal exhibits unique characteristics.The deformation behaviours under cyclic loading with different confining pressures and loading rates are monitored by MTS815 test system,and the mechanical and energy properties are analysed using experimental data.The results show that the stress-strain curve could be divided into four stages in a single cycle.The elastic strain and elastic energy density increase linearly with deviatoric stress and are proportional to the confining pressure and loading rate;irreversible strain and dissipated energy density increase exponentially with deviatoric stress,inversely proportional to the confining pressure and loading rate.The internal structure of tectonic coal is divided into three types,all of which are damaged under different deviatoric stress levels,thereby explaining the segmentation phenomenon of stress-strain curve of tectonic coal in the cyclic loading process.Tectonic coal exhibits nonlinear energy storage characteristics,which verifies why the tectonic coal is prone to coal and gas outburst from the principle of energy dissipation.In addition,the damage mechanism of tectonic coal is described from the point of energy distribution by introducing the concepts of crushing energy and friction energy.
