Mepanipyrim induces visual developmental toxicity and vision-guided behavioral alteration in zebrafish larvae

Mepanipyrim,an anilinopyrimidine fungicide,has been extensively used to prevent fungal diseases in fruit culture.Currently,research on mepanipyrim-induced toxicity in organisms is still very scarce,especially visual developmental toxicity.Here,zebrafish larvae were employed to investigate mepanipyrim-induced visual developmental toxicity.Intense light andmonochromatic light stimuli-evoked escape experiments were used to investigate vision-guided behaviors.Meanwhile,transcriptomic sequencing and real-time quantitative PCR assays were applied to assess the potential mechanisms of mepanipyrim-induced visual developmental toxicity and vision-guided behavioral alteration.Our results showed that mepanipyrim exposure could induce retinal impairment and vision-guided behavioral alteration in larval zebrafish.In addition,the grk1b gene of the phototransduction signaling pathway was found to be a potential aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)-regulated gene.Mepanipyrim-induced visual developmental toxicity was potentially related to the AhR signaling pathway.Furthermore,mepanipyrim-induced behavioral alteration was guided by the visual function,and the effects of mepanipyrim on long and middle wavelength light-sensitive opsins may be the main cause of vision-guided behavioral alteration.Our results provide insights into understanding the relationship between visual development and vision-guided behaviors induced by mepanipyrim exposure.

Gravity modelling of crustal architecture and heterogeneity in the Nansha Block,South China Sea

The stretched structure and heterogeneity of the crust of the Nansha Block,the southern continental margin of the South China Sea(SCS),are not well understood.We used published ocean bottom seismic(OBS)/multichannel reflection seismic(MCS)profiles across the Nansha Block to establish five two-dimensional crustal structure models.Using gravity modelling with magnetic anomaly inversion,we obtained the distribution of density and local magnetic susceptibility of the crust.The models show that the distribution of density and thickness of the upper crust in the Nansha Block is uneven,and the thick upper crust is prevalent in the regions close to the continent-ocean transition(COT)showing different characteristics.The interpreted Mesozoic granite blocks and Precambrian rigid basement reflects the heterogeneity in the material composition of the SCS continental margin.Based on the thinning styles of different crustal layers,we suggest that the Nansha Block has a three-layer thinning pattern.The uppermost pre-rift layer was deformed via brittle fractures,the upper crust was sheared by discrete shear zones,and the lower crust experienced ductile deformation.The inherited pre-rift thermal regime,mechanical state,and material composition of the SCS continental margin affected the extensional structure of the crust.

Microbial characteristics in anaerobic membrane bioreactor treating domestic sewage:Effects of HRT and process performance

Two anaerobic membrane bioreactors(AnMBRs)equipped with different membrane pore size(0.4 or 0.05μm)were operated at 25℃and fed with domestic wastewater.The hydraulic retention time(HRT)of the reactors was shortened.The microbial communities of the two AnMBRs were investigated by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing to see the effects of HRT.The predominant Archaea was an aceticlastic methanogen Methanosaeta.The composition of hydrogenotrophic methanogens changed with the HRTs:the population of Methanobacterium was higher for longer HRTs,whereas the population of unclassified Methanoregulaceae was higher for shorter HRTs.The Anaerolineae,Bacteroidia and Clostridia bacteria were dominant in both of the reactors,with a combined relative abundance of over 55%.The relative abundance of Anaerolineae was proportional to the biogas production performance.The change in the population of hydrogenotrophic methanogens or Anaerolineae can be used as an indicator for process monitoring.The sum of the relative abundance of Anaerolineae and Clostridia fluctuated slightly with changes in the HRT in both AnMBRs when the reactor was stably operated.The co-occurrence analysis revealed the relative abundance of the operational taxonomic units belonging to Anaerolineae and Clostridia was functionally equivalent during the treatment of real domestic sewage.A principal coordination analysis revealed that the changes in the microbial community in each reactor were consistent with the change of HRT.In addition,both the HRT and the stability of the process are important factors for maintaining microbial community structures.

Prediction of salmon (Salmo salar) quality during refrigeration storage based on dielectric properties

Dielectric properties are validated to be correlated with the changes of food quality during 4℃ storage,thus it could be used as predictive indicators for the quality parameters of salmon(Salmo salar)during cold storage.An open-ended coaxial detection method was used to determine the dielectric properties(dielectric constantε'and dielectric lossε")of salmon at the frequency range of 20-2500 MHz,and to explore the relationship between dielectric properties and volatile base nitrogen(TVB-N),thiobarbituric acid reactants(TBARS),total viable counts(TVC),pH and K-value in salmon fillets during storage for 7 d.Results showed that the TVB-N,TBARS,TVC and K-value of salmon increased linearly with the increase of storage time,and the pH decreased firstly and increased subsequently.Also,the dielectric properties(ε'andε")decreased with the increase of frequency,and increased with the increase of storage time.During 7 d storage,ε"increased the most at the frequency of 27.12 and 40.68 MHz,while at the frequency of 915 MHz and 2450 MHz,the increase ofε"was smaller.Results analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis showed that significant correlation(plinear relationship.The linear coefficient R2 of TVB-N,TBARS and TVC for PLS-ε'were 0.937,0.910 and 0.917 respectively,and 0.942,0.917 and 0.933 respectively for PLS-ε".The results demonstrated the dielectric properties combined with PLS analysis can be used as a rapid and non-destructive method to predict quality parameters of salmo

Extraction of lithium from the simulated pyrometallurgical slag of spent lithium-ion batteries by binary eutectic molten carbonates

The effective and low-temperature extraction of lithium from the pyrometallurgical slag of spent lithium-ion batteries(liBs)remains a great challenge.Herein,potassium carbonate/sodium carbonate(K_(2)CO_(3)/Na_(2)CO_(3)),which could form a eutectic molten salt system at 720℃,was used as a roasting agent to extract lithium from pyrometallurgical slag.lithium was successfully extracted from the slag by K_(2)CO_(3)/Na_(2)CO_(3) roasting followed by water leaching.Theoretical calculation results indicate that the lengths of li-O bonds increase after K^(+)/Na^(+)adsorption,resulting in the easy release of li^(+)from the liAlSi_(2)O_(6) lattice after roasting with K_(2)CO_(3)/Na_(2)CO_(3).Thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry results indicate that the eutectic phenomenon of K_(2)CO_(3) and Na_(2)CO_(3) could be observed at 720℃ and that the reaction of the slag and eutectic molten salts occurs at temperatures above 720℃.X-ray diffraction results suggest that li^(+)in the slag is exchanged by K^(+)in K_(2)CO_(3) with the concurrent formation of KAlSiO_(4),while Na_(2)CO_(3) mainly functions as a fluxing agent.The lithium extraction efficiency can reach 93.87%under the optimal conditions of a roasting temperature of 740℃,roasting time of 30 min,leaching temperature of 50℃,leaching time of 40 min,and water/roasted sample mass ratio of 10:1.This work provides a new system for extracting lithium from the pyrometallurgical slag of spent liBs.

Rapid industrialization is accompanied by the deterioration of the natural environment.The deepening crisis associated with the ecological environment has garnered widespread attention toward strengthening environmental monitoring and protection.Environmental sensors are one of the key technologies for environmental monitoring,ultimately enabling environmental protection.In recent decades,micro/nanomaterials have been widely studied and applied in environmental sensing owing to their unique dimensional properties.Electrospinning has been developed and adopted as a facile,quick,and effective technology to produce continuous micro-and nanofiber materials.The technology has advanced rapidly and become one of the hotspots in the field of nanomaterials research.Environmental sensors made from electrospun nanofibers possess many advantages,such as having a porous structure and high specific surface area,which effectively improve their performance in environmental sensing.Furthermore,by introducing functional nanomaterials(carbon nanotubes,metal oxides,conjugated polymers,etc.)into electrospun fibers,synergistic effects between different materials can be utilized to improve the catalytic activity and sensitivity of the sensors.In this review,we aimed to outline the progress of research over the past decade on electrospinning nanofibers with different morphologies and functional characteristics in environmental sensors.

Simultaneous attack of a stationary target using multiple missiles: a consensus-based approach

This paper considers the simultaneous attack problem of multiple missiles against a stationary target. Built upon the classic proportional navigation structure, we propose a consensus-based approach to design the cooperative guidance law. Specifically, we present time-varying navigation ratios for the missiles,which exchange the time-to-go estimates between neighboring missiles via a communication network. For the cases where the communication topology is undirected or in the leader–follower structure with a missile acting as the leader whose navigation ratio cannot be tuned, we show that the proposed cooperative guidance law can solve the simultaneous attack problem. The effectiveness of the theoretical results is finally illustrated by numerical simulations.

Characterization of a novel regulatory pathway for mannitol metabolism and its coordination with biofilm formation in Mycobacterium smegmatis

Biofilm formation has been implicated to be tightly regulated in bacteria. Mycobacterial species possess a unique cell-wall structure; however, the underlying regulation mechanism for their biofilm formation remains largely unclear. In this study, we characterized a hypothetical mannitol metabolism and transportation gene cluster（Ms5571-Ms5576）, designated as mmt operon, whose expression significantly contributes to the biofilm formation in Mycobacterium smegmatis. We showed that in the operon the Ms5575 gene encodes a GntR-like transcriptional repressor and the Ms5576 gene encodes a mannitol2-dehydrogenase which can produce D-mannitol from D-mannose. Strikingly, the D-mannitol molecule can derepress the negative regulation of Ms5575 on the mmt operon to stimulate the operon＇s expression. Consistently, addition of D-mannitol into the medium can obviously induce mycobacterial biofilm formation. Furthermore, we found that Ms0179 positively regulates the mmt operon through its downstream regulator Ms0180. Ms0180 directly binds the mmt operon to positively regulate its expression. Both Ms0179 and Ms0180 significantly affect the mycobacterial biofilm formation. Taken together, we explored a regulatory pathway for the mannitol metabolism and its coordination with the biofilm formation in M. smegmatis. This finding provides novel insights into the unique mechanism of biofilm formation regulation in mycobacteria.

Mapping species assemblages of tropical forests at different hierarchical levels based on multivariate regression trees

Background: Vegetation distribution maps are of great significance for nature protection and management. In diverse tropical forests, accurate spatial mapping of vegetation types is challenging;the high species diversity and abundance of rare species challenge classification concepts, while remote sensing signals may not vary systematically with species composition, complicating the technical capability for delineating vegetation types in the landscape.Methods: We used a combination of field-based compositional data and their relations to environmental variables to predict the distribution of forest types in the Wuzhishan National Natural Reserve(WNNR), Hainan Island,China, using multivariate regression trees(MRT). The MRT was based on arboreal vegetation composition in 132plots of 20 m×20 m with a regular spacing of 1 km. Apart from the MRT, non-metric multidimensional scaling(NMDS) was used to evaluate vegetation-environment relationships.Results: The MRT model worked best when using 14 key environmental variables including topography, climate,latitude and soil, although the difference with the simpler model including only topographical variables was small. The full model classified the 132 plots into 3 vegetation types, 6 formation groups, 20 formations and 65associations at different hierarchical syntaxonomic levels. This model was the basis for forest vegetation maps for the WNNR. MRT and NMDS showed that elevation was the main driving force for the distribution of vegetation types and formation groups. Climate, latitude, and soil(especially available P), together with topographic variables, all influenced the distribution of formations and associations.Conclusions: While elevation determines forest-type distributions, lower-level syntaxonomic forest classes respond to the topographic diversity typical for mountains. Apart from providing the first detailed forest vegetation map for any part of WNNR, we show how, in spite of limitations, MRT with existing environmental data can be a useful method for mapping
