Microbial application is an efficient, economical, and ecofriendly method for remediating black-odorous rivers. In this study, the field treatment effect and microbial community changes were monitored during remediation by the acclimated complex microorganisms of a typical black-odorous stream. After the treatment, the total phosphorus and ammonia contents decreased by 74.0% and 76.3% and the concentrations of dissolved oxygen increased from 1.65 to 4.90 mg/L, indicating the effectiveness of the acclimated composite microorganisms. The proportion of Bacteroidetes decreased significantly by 48.1% and that of Firmicutes increased by 2.23% on average, and the microbial diversity index first increased and then tended to be uniform. Redundancy analysis demonstrated that the pH,dissolved oxygen, and oxidation-reduction potential together determined the composition of the microbial communities(p < 0.05). These findings showed that the acclimated composite microorganisms can effectively remediate the black odor.

Extraction algorithm for longitudinal and transverse mechanical information of AFM

The potential of blockchain has been recognized worldwide.It can be applied in many fields and brings a huge improvement to society.To help users to gain quick access to this new technology,IT giants introduce Baa S（Blockchain as a service）.However,the study of BaaS in the context of the Chinese environment is insufficient.Therefore,this article aims to make up for this gap.This paper studies the application of blockchain in China and the benefits and challenges of BaaS.Then,5 BaaS providers will be introduced and one of them,the 58 BaaS,will be carefully examined through SWOT analysis.The conclusion is that although the application of Baa S is promising,there are obstacles such as regulations on the way to the large-scale use.Different providers of BaaS in China focus on different areas,and 58 concentrates on a unique one.58 BaaS has its competitive advantages compared to other providers,but it still has to deal with the challenges carefully in the application of blockchain.

The atomic force microscope(AFM)can measure nanoscale morphology and mechanical properties and has a wide range of applications.The traditional method for measuring the mechanical properties of a sample does so for the longitudinal and transverse properties separately,ignoring the coupling between them.In this paper,a data processing and multidimensional mechanical information extraction algorithm for the composite mode of peak force tapping and torsional resonance is proposed.On the basis of a tip–sample interaction model for the AFM,longitudinal peak force data are used to decouple amplitude and phase data of transverse torsional resonance,accurately identify the tip–sample longitudinal contact force in each peak force cycle,and synchronously obtain the corresponding characteristic images of the transverse amplitude and phase.Experimental results show that the measured longitudinal mechanical characteristics are consistent with the transverse amplitude and phase characteristics,which verifies the effectiveness of the method.Thus,a new method is provided for the measurement of multidimensional mechanical characteristics using the AFM.

Resistivity will have different response characteristics to the hydraulic fracture propagation process. In this work, a resistivity testing system for hydraulic fracturing specimens was established. Resistivity and acoustic emission(AE) information were jointly analysed to determine the dynamic response characteristics of resistivity during hydraulic fracture propagation. The results show that the water and fracture exert a competitive influence on the connection structure of the circuit, and there are two significant peak resistivity points in the curve, presenting a double peak therein. The peak resistivity data of the specimen with a larger fracture area are much different from the initial value. With the increase of the rate of injection, the range of variation of the highest value that can be reached with the specimen resistivity decreases. High resistivity rates or high resistivity fluctuations exhibit rapid a release of fracture energy. The fracture failure mode dominated by shear fractures makes the formation produce a “series+parallel” electrical connection structure;a calculation model of formation resistivity based on shear and tensile failure was proposed to characterize the proportion of different types of hydraulic fractures and elucidate the control effect of matrix resistivity on the electrical performance of the overall circuit structure.

CO_(2)capture,utilization,and storage(CCUS)technology is a rare option for the large-scale use of fossil fuels in a low-carbon way,which will definitely play a part in the journey towards carbon neutrality.Within the CCUS nexus,CCU is especially interesting because these processes will establish a new“atmosphere-to-atmosphere”carbon cycle and thus indirectly offer huge potential in carbon reduction.This study focuses on the new positioning of CCUS in the carbon neutrality scenario and aims to identify potential cutting-edge/disruptive CCU technologies that may find important application opportunities during the decarbonization of the energy and industrial system.To this end,direct air capture(DAC),flexible metal-framework materials(MOFs)for CO_(2)capture,integrated CO_(2)capture and conversion(ICCC),and electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction(ECR)were selected,and their general introduction,the importance to carbon neutrality,and most up-to-date research progress are summarized.

Novel peptide-fentanyl analogue conjugates were synthesized by the covalent coupling of carfentanyl derivatives to the C-terminus or N-terminus of the conformationally constrained dermorphin tetrapeptide BVD03 via a chemical linker.The carfentanyl-related analogues displayed distinct binding and functional activities atμ/δopioid receptors(MOR/DOR)and antinociceptive effects when conjugated to the peptide.The most potent compound,SW-LJ-11,displayed mixed MOR/DOR agonist properties in the low nanomolar range and significant analgesic efficacy in vivo in four classic mouse models of pain.Interestingly,SW-LJ-11 did not exhibit any physical dependence or respiratory depression,in contrast to an equipotent analgesic dose of morphine or BVD03,indicating that the use of opioid peptide-fentanyl analogue conjugates as dual MOR/DOR agonists may be a promising strategy for obtaining safer opioids.

The technology of three-dimensional(3D)printing emerged in the late 1970s and has since undergone considerable development to find numerous applications in mechanical engineering,industrial design,and biomedicine.In biomedical science,several studies have initially found that 3D printing technology can play an important role in the treatment of diseases in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.For example,3D printing technology has been applied to create detailed anatomical models of disease organs for preoperative personalized surgical strategies,surgical simulation,intraoperative navigation,medical training,and patient education.Moreover,cancer models have been created using 3D printing technology for the research and selection of chemotherapy drugs.With the aim to clarify the development and application of 3D printing technology in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery,we introduce seven common types of 3D printing technology and review the status of research and application of 3D printing technology in the field of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.

A Novel and Pleiotropic Factor SLENDER GRAIN3 Is Involved in Regulating Grain Size in Rice

Grain size is frequently selected during domestication and breeding. It influences the preferences of consumers, thus affecting the commercial value of rice. In present study, a mutant named as SLENDER GRAIN3(sg3) was identified from cultivar Zhenong 41(Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica) with ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS) treatment. Histological analysis showed that the slender grain of sg3 mutant resulted from increased cell division longitudinally and decreased cell division horizontally. Compared with the wild type Zhenong 41, starch granules in sg3 mutant were more closely packed, thus decreasing the chalkiness. Moreover, grain yield per plant in sg3 mutant was improved by 14%. By map-based cloning, SG3 was located on the long arm of chromosome 3 with a physical distance of 82 kb, and a 9-bp deletion in the 5′-UTR of LOC_Os03 g27110 was identified, which upregulated the expression level significantly. Moreover, a molecular marker for SG3 was developed to identify the grain size during the early generation breeding in rice. The novel factor SG3 regulated the grain size mainly through changing the cell division and the endosperm formation in rice.

Reduced graphene oxide-modified Ni Co-phosphates on Ni foam enabling high areal capacitances for asymmetric supercapacitors

NiCo-phosphates can deliver high specific capacitances and high electrochemical activities as pseudocapacitive electrode material for supercapacitors.In this study,The NiCo-phosphates@reduced graphene oxide(NCPO@rGO)composite is directly loaded on Ni foam by a simple one-step hydrothermal process.The conductive rGO sheets provides continuous electron pathways between NCPO flowers and Ni foam,allowing active electrochemical reactions throughout the whole electrode.This can solve the difficulty of low active material utility and small areal capacitances in the Ni foam-supported electrodes.At the same time,the rGO sheets creates large amount of mesopores within the electrode,which can ensure a highly open structure for electrolyte attachment and ion transport.Because of the positive effect of rGO in improving charge transfe r,the NiCo-phosphates can be fully involved in the electrochemical reactions with high utility,ensuring high specific capacitances(1416.7 F g^(-1)at 1 A g^(-1))and high-rate performances.Specially,the areal capacitance of the NCPO@rGO electrode can reach as large as 3.69 F cm^(-2)at 1 A g^(-1),which is among the highest ones in Ni foam supported electrodes.An asymmetric supercapacitor is then fabricated by NCPO@rGO as the positive material with attractive energy densities and power densities,further proving its excellent electrochemical performance.

A study of the lipid-mediated dimerization of the RAGE TM+JM domains by molecular dynamic simulations

Receptor for Advanced Glycation End-products(RAGE) binds to a number of ligand families to display important roles in hyperglycemia, senescence, inflammation, neurodegeneration and cancer. It is reported that RAGE regulates the related biological processes via homo-dimerization by the transmembrane(TM) domain, and evidence further shows that the intracellular domain of RAGE has an influence on the dimerization activity of RAGE. In this study, we explored the underlying interaction mechanism of RAGE TM domains by multiscale coarse-grained(CG) dynamic simulations. Two switching packing modes of the TM dimeric conformations were observed. Through a series of site-directed mutations, we further emphasized the key roles of the A342xxxG346xxG349xxxT353xxL356xxxV360motif in the left-handed configuration and the L345xxxG349xxG352xxxL356motif in the right-handed configuration. In addition, we revealed that the juxtamembrane(JM) domain within JM-A375 can determine the RAGE TM dimeric structure. Overall, we provide the molecular insights into the switching dimerization of RAGE TM domains, as well as the regulation from the JM domains mediated by the anionic lipids.
