Virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein(CRISPR/Cas)systems are effective technologies for rapid and accurate gene function verification in modern plant ***,the investigation of gene silencing and editing in radish remains *** this study,a bleaching phenotype was generated through the knockdown of RsPDS using tobacco rattle virus(TRV)-and turnip yellow mosaic virus(TYMV)-mediated gene silencing *** TYMV-mediated gene silencing efficiency was higher than the TRV-based VIGS system in *** expression level of RsPDS was significantly inhibited using VIGS in'NAu-067'radish *** rootless seedlings of‘NAu-067'were infected with Agrobacterium rhizogenes using the 2300GN-ubi-RsPDS-Cas9 vector with two target *** adventitious roots were blue with Gus staining,and four of these adventitious roots were edited at target sequence 1 of the RsPDS gene as indicated by Sanger ***,albino lines were generated with ***-mediated transformation of radish *** base substitutions and three base deletions occurred at target sequence 2 in line 1,and three base insertions and three base substitutions occurred at target sequence 1 in line *** study shows that VIGS and CRISPR/Cas9 techniques can be employed to precisely verify the biological functions of genes in radish,which will facilitate the genetic improvement of vital horticul.ural traits in radish breeding programs.

Bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides（TMDs） balance the high mobility of single layers with the high state density of multilayers and therefore have promising application prospects in high-performance electronics. However, the layer-controlled growth of 2D materials is still confronted with challenges such as poor repeatability between different labs and a limited understanding of the growth mechanism at the atomic scale. Herein, we report a new carbon-assisted chemical vapor deposition process that can realize the growth of WS2sheets with high yield, precise thickness controllability, and repeatability. We show that carbon can act as a reducing agent and catalyst that preferentially reacts with the WO3precursor to form intermediate WO3-xproducts with low-valence state W. The resulting oxycarbide gas has a low surface adsorption energy when deposited on the surface of as-grown WS2, which provides nucleation sites for the subsequent layer of WS2growth and leads to the vertical growth of WS2sheets. The growth mechanism is thoroughly investigated. Electrical transport measurements show that the produced bilayer WS2possesses a high carrier mobility(up to 58 cm2·V-1·s-1) and small subthreshold swing（estimated to be 148 mV/decade）,which are among the best reported results for TMDs produced using CVD.

Sul.ur isotopes of S-bearing materials are powerful tools to trace various geological processes and sul.ur sources in earth sciences， especially in ore deposits where sulfide-sulfate pair coprecipitates widely. However， in-situ S isotope determination of barite is challenging without natural matrix-matched reference material. In this study， we present two natural barite reference materials （1-YS and 294-YS） for in-situ sul.ur isotopic analysis. Independent lA-MC-ICP-MS laboratories were utilized to test the δ34S micron-scale homogeneity of 1-YS and 294-YS barites that have 2s repeatabilities of better than ±0.45 ‰ and ±0.41 ‰， respectively. Meanwhile， the in-situ analysis results are consistent with the results of the bulk analysis by GS-IRMS within uncertainty. The grand mean δ34S values of 1-YS （13.37‰ ± 0.42 ‰， 2s） and 294-YS （14.38‰ ± 0.44 ‰， 2s） are the final recommended values obtained from four independent laboratories. All the results confirm the suitability of 1-YS and 294-YS barite used as calibration materials with respect to in-situ S isotopic analysis. Moreover， the new developed barite reference materials were used as matrix-matched standard to calibrate the barite samples from the Huayangchuan carbonatite-hosted u-polymetallic deposit （Qinling orogenic belt， western China） to obtain δ34S values. utilizing the temperature-dependent δ34S fractionation of barite-pyrite pair， we cal.ulate the formation temperature of barite （i.e.， 506 to 537 ℃） and the δ34S value of mineralizing fluid （i.e.， -7.11‰ to -7.59 ‰） in the Huayangchuan deposit. The results indicate an involvement of sedimentary sul.ur， presumably acting as a potential.uranium source （e.g.， upper crustal materials） for the giant Huayangchuan deposit.

The p53 tumor suppressor is the guardian of the rrr- o human genome. Since ,ts discovery in pS3 has been the most studied molecule in the field of cancer. Recently, its role has also been extended to other biological and pathological processes, p53 functions primarily as a transcription factor to regulate target genes that encode proteins crucial for promot- ing apoptotic cell death, cell cycle arrest, senescence, and so on in response to diverse upstream stressors. Interestingly, some of the p53 targets are noncoding RNAs. Noncoding RNAs can be functional without being translated into proteins and are often independent RNA molecules or noncoding parts of messenger RNAs. The past decade has witnessed bur- geoning intensive investigation on the interplay of noncoding RNAs with p53, its regulators, and effectors during the development of cancer and/or other dis- eases. This issue of Journal of Molecular Cell Biology presents five essays to review the rapid progress in this area from five different angles and to offer new insight into the role of noncoding RNAs in the p53 signaling web with updated information.

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

Memory deficit,which is often associated with aging and many psychiatric,neurological,and neurodegenerative diseases,has been a challenging issue for *** till now,all potential drug candidates have failed to produce satisfa ctory ***,in the search for a solution,we found that a treatment with the gene corresponding to the RGS14414protein in visual area V2,a brain area connected with brain circuits of the ventral stream and the medial temporal lobe,which is crucial for object recognition memory(ORM),can induce enhancement of *** this study,we demonstrated that the same treatment with RGS14414in visual area V2,which is relatively unaffected in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s disease,produced longlasting enhancement of ORM in young animals and prevent ORM deficits in rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s ***,we found that the prevention of memory deficits was mediated through the upregulation of neuronal arbo rization and spine density,as well as an increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF).A knockdown of BDNF gene in RGS14414-treated aging rats and Alzheimer s disease model mice caused complete loss in the upregulation of neuronal structural plasticity and in the prevention of ORM *** findings suggest that BDNF-mediated neuronal structural plasticity in area V2 is crucial in the prevention of memory deficits in RGS14414-treated rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s ***,our findings of RGS14414gene-mediated activation of neuronal circuits in visual area V2 have therapeutic relevance in the treatment of memory deficits.
