A theoretical framework for interaction of nursing discipline with genetics and genomics

Background:Since the completion of the human Genome Project,health science has been strongly influenced by the advances in genetics and genomics.However,the progress of embracing genetics and genomics into nursing discipline is limited.One of the main barriers is lack of understanding on the relevancy of genetics and genomics to nursing discipline.Objectives:This paper aims to synthesize and develop a theoretical framework for the interaction of nursing discipline with genetics and genomics.Methods:Through content analysis and constant comparative method,a theoretical framework was developed from synthesis of the studies regarding nursing and genetics/genomics indexed in multiple English and Chinese databases.Results:Four main theoretical statements were constructed in the framework:1)There are three ways to show how genetics and genomics can influence nursing discipline:a new specialty,new technologies and a new lens;2)The significant contribution of nursing discipline to genetics and genomics lies in how nurses could focus on the association between human responses and genes and how nurses could advocate for their clients in the genetic and genomic era;3)A paradigm shift occurs after a constant interaction of nursing discipline with genetics and genomics;4)Implementation strategies could be used to facilitate the integration of genetics and genomics to nursing discipline and advance the paradigm shift.Conclusions:The framework will help to understand the relationship between nursing discipline and genetics and genomics and implicate the future studies integrating genetics and genomic science into nursing discipline.

Background:The study aimed to develop consensus on the components of health education of home-based negative pressure wound therapy(NPWT)for patients with chronic wounds.Methods:A Delphi method was used to achieve consensus on the components of health education and 75%agreement and coefficient of variation(CV)<0.25 were used as cutoff.Sixteen experts were recruited purposefully to finish this study.Results:Two rounds of consultation were implemented.Consensus was achieved on 36 of the 42 statements.The final agreed list of statements represented three domains:health education before carrying out home-based NPWT,health education for the treatment day of NPWT at hospital and health education for NPWT at home.Conclusions:This study was the first attempt to develop consensus on the comprehensive components of health education of home-based NPWT for patients with chronic wounds.According to the established framework and components of health education,wound professionals can safely and effectively implement health education of home-based NPWT for patients with chronic wounds and improve their self-care ability and treatment experience at home.

Wet nitrogen oxidation technology and its anisotropy influence on VCSELs

Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers（VCSELs） are widely used in optical communications and optical interconnects due to their advantages of low threshold, low power consumption and so on. Wet nitrogen oxidation technology, which utilizes H20 molecules to oxidize the Al;Ga;As, is used for electrical and optical mode confinement. In this paper, the effects of oxidation time, oxidation temperature and oxidation anisotropy on the oxidation rate are explored and demonstrated. The ratio of oxidation rate on [0-11] to [011] crystal orientation is defined as oxidation anisotropy coefficient, which decreases with the increase of oxidation temperature and oxidation time. In order to analyze the effect of the oxidation anisotropy on the VCSEL performance, an oxide-aperture of the VCSELs with two difference shapes is designed and then fabricated. The static performance of these fabricated VCSELs has been measured,whose threshold current ratio ～0.714 is a good agreement with that of the theoretical calculation value ～0.785. Our research on wet nitrogen oxidation and its anisotropy serves as an important reference in the batch fabrication of large-area VCSELs.

Impact of damping on high speed 850 nm VCSEL performance

High speed VCSELs are important optical devices in short-reach optical communication links and interconnects because of their low cost and high modulation speeds. In this paper, the impact of damping on the their static and dynamic characteristics is analyzed and demonstrated. Through the shallow corrosion of the top layer DBR, the VCSELs with different damping is designed and fabricated. With the increase of the surface etch depth from 0 to ～55 nm for 9 μm oxide-aperture VCSEL, the K factor related with the damping is reduced from0.31 to 0.23 ns;. When the etch depth of the VCSEL with 9 μm oxide-aperture is decreased to ～25 nm,output power is increased from 4.03 to 4.70 mW and small signal modulation bandwidth is also increased from15.46 to 16.37 GHz. It shows that there is a tradeoff between damping and differential gain for improving modulation speed.

Background Internet gaming disorder(IGD)is an ideal model to study the mechanisms underlying synaptic deficits in addiction as it eliminates the confounding effects of substance use.Synaptic loss and deficits are hypothesised to underlie the enduring maladaptive behaviours and impaired cognitive function that contribute to IGD.Aims This study aimed to determine whether subjects with IGD have lower synaptic density than control subjects and the relationship between synaptic density and IGD severity.Methods Eighteen unmedicated subjects diagnosed with current IGD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,Fifth Edition criteria and 16 demographically matched healthy controls(HCs)participated in the study and underwent 18F-labelled difluoro-analogue of UCB-J(18F-SynVesT-1)positron emission tomography scans to assess the density of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A(SV2A).The Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form(IGDS9-SF),Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD),Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA),Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Version 11(BIS-11),Stroop Colour-Word Test(SCWT),stop-signal paradigms and N-back tasks were administered to all subjects.Results Patients with IGD had significantly higher scores on the IGDS9-SF,HAMD,HAMA and BIS-11 than HCs.HCs performed better on the two-back and SCWT tests as well as in terms of stop-signal reaction times(SSRTs)in the stop-signal paradigms than patients with IGD.Lower uptake was found in the bilateral putamen,right pregenual anterior cingulate cortex and Rolandic operculum of patients with IGD compared with HCs.Furthermore,in the IGD group,IGDS9-SF scores and daily gaming hours were negatively correlated with the standardised uptake value ratios of 18F-SynVesT-1 in the bilateral putamen.Longer SSRTs were significantly associated with lower SV2A density in the right pregenual anterior cingulate cortex and right Rolandic operculum.Conclusions The in vivo results in this study suggest that lower synaptic density contributes to the severity and im

There are many new and potential drug targets in G protein-coupled receptors(GPCRs)without sufficient ligand associations,and accurately predicting and interpreting ligand bioactivities is vital for screening and optimizing hit compounds targeting these GPCRs.To efficiently address the lack of labeled training samples,we proposed a multi-task regression learning with incoherent sparse and low-rank patterns(MTR-ISLR)to model ligand bioactivities and identify their key substructures associated with these GPCRs targets.That is,MTR-ISLR intends to enhance the performance and interpretability of models under a small size of available training data by introducing homologous GPCR tasks.Meanwhile,the low-rank constraint term encourages to catch the underlying relationship among homologous GPCR tasks for greater model generalization,and the entry-wise sparse regularization term ensures to recognize essential discriminative substructures from each task for explanative modeling.We examined MTR-ISLR on a set of 31 important human GPCRs datasets from 9 subfamilies,each with less than 400 ligand associations.The results show that MTR-ISLR reaches better performance when compared with traditional single-task learning,deep multi-task learning and multi-task learning with joint feature learning-based models on most cases,where MTR-ISLR obtains an average improvement of 7%in correlation coefficient(r2)and 12%in root mean square error(RMSE)against the runner-up predictors.The MTR-ISLR web server appends freely all source codes and data for academic usages.^(1))

Uniform lithium(Li)deposition in all-solid-state Li metal batteries is greatly influenced by the anode/electrolyte interface.Herein,a Mg-modified interface was constructed via the simple in-situ electrochemical reduction of Mg^(2+)from Mg(TFSI)_(2) in polyethylene oxide(PEO)and a Li bis(trifluoromethane)sulfoni mide(Li TFSI)formulae.As confirmed by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy,the anode/electrolyte interface exhibited hybrids consisting of crystalline Mg,Li_(2)O,and Li dots embedded in an amorphous polymer electrolyte.The crystalline Mg dots guided the uniform Li nucleation and growth,inducing a smoother anode/electrolyte interface compared with the pristine electrolyte.With 1 wt%Mg(TFSI)_(2) in the PEO-Li TFSI electrolyte,the Mg-modified electrolyte enabled the Li/Li symmetric cells with cycling performance of over 1700 and 1400 h at current densities of 0.1 and 0.2 m A cm^(-2),respectively.Moreover,the full LFP/Li cells using the novel Mg-modified electrolyte delivered a cycling lifespan of over 450 cycles with negligible capacity loss.

Intracellular compartmentation is a key strategy for the functioning of a cell.In 2010,several studies revealed that the metabolic enzyme CTP synthase(CTPS)can form filamentous structures termed cytoophidia in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.However,recent structural studies showed that CTPS only forms inactive product-bound filaments in bacteria while forming active substrate-bound filaments in eukaryotic cells.In this study,using negative staining and cryo-electron microscopy,we demonstrate that Drosophila CTPS,whether in substrate-bound or product-bound form,can form filaments.Our results challenge the previous model and indicate that substrate-bound and product-bound filaments can coexist in the same species.We speculate that the ability to switch between active and inactive cytoophidia in the same cells provides an additional layer of metabolic regulation.
