Combined heuristics for determining order quantity under time-varying demands

The time-varying demands for a certain period are often assumed to be less than the basic economic order quantity （EOQ） so that total replenishment quantity rather than economic order quantity is normally considered by most of the heuristics. This acticle focuses on a combined heuristics method for determining order quantity under generalized time-varying demands. The independent policy （IP）, abnormal independent policy （AIP） and dependent policies are studied and compared. Using the concepts of normal/abnormal periods and the properties of dependent policies, a dependent policy-based heuristics （DPH） is proposed for solving the order quantity problems with a kind of time-varying demands pattern under which the first period is normal. By merging the Silver-Meal （S-M） heuristics and the dependent policy-based heuristics （DPH）, a combined heuristics （DPH/S-M） is developed for solving order quantity problems with generalized time-varying demands. The experimentation shows that （1） for the problem with one normal period, no matter which position the normal period stands, the DPH/S-M could not guarantee better than the S-M heuristics, however it is superior to the S-M heuristics in the case that the demands in the abnormal periods are in descending order, and （2） The DPH/S-M is superior to the S-M heuristics for problems with more than one normal period, and the more the number of normal periods, the greater the improvements.

Many real-world problems are dynamic,requiring optimization algorithms being able to continuously track changing optima(optimum) over *** paper proposes an improved differential evolutionary algorithm using the notion of the near-neighbor effect to determine one individuals neighborhoods,for tracking multiple optima in the dynamic environment.A new mutation strategy using the near-neighbor effect is also *** creates individuals by utilizing the stored memory point in its neighborhood,and utilizing the differential vector produced by the ’nearneighbor -superior’ and ’near-neighbor-inferior’.Taking inspirations from the biological immune system,an immune system based scheme is presented for rapidly detecting and responding to the environmental *** addition,a differencerelated multidirectional amplification scheme is presented to integrate valuable information from different dimensions for effectively and rapidly finding the promising optimum in the search *** on dynamic scenarios created by the typical dynamic test instance—moving peak problem,have demonstrated that the near-neighbor and immune system based differential evolution algorithm(NIDE) is effective in dealing with dynamic optimization functions.

As a fundamental logistics service,the express delivery(ED)industry provides production and consumption activities to maintain efficient supply chain *** plays an important role in promoting industrial development and maintaining daily life and *** study examined the effects of COVID-19 on the ED industry using ED package delivery data from 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities)in *** a difference-in-differences method,the COVID-19 outbreak was found to have a positive effect and epidemic prevention and control(EPC)policies were found to have negative effects on the development of the ED *** addition to EPC policies,the Chinese government has implemented other short-term economic interventions(SEI),such as the resumption of work and production(RWP),policies to balance economic growth,and epidemic *** study divided the pandemic period into three stages to analyze the different impacts of EPC and SEI policy changes on the ED *** RWP policies adopted during the pandemic positively impacted the volume and income of packages delivered to the ED *** conclusions of this study are significant for the ED industry in addressing public health emergencies and for the Chinese government to formulate EPC and SEI policies during epidemic periods.

Along with the gradual maturity of Pickup and Delivery Customers to Airport service （PDCA）, transactional management can’t meet the needs of Flight Tickets Sale Companies （FTSC） which implemented PDCA. In fact, company urgently demands statistical information from the accumulated data of service to make correct decisions. Therefore, the aim of the research is to evaluate and analyze the historical data of PDCA platform to help companies successfully decide how to arrange their operational tactics. According to the feature of PDCA, importance and content of statistical information of PDCA is proposed. By our implemented platform, we show how to use the statistical information to provide decision support for the companies which implemented PDCA. These results of the analysis also prove that the statistical information make the company easily master the whole condition of PDCA and adjust the operation method to obtain the better profits.

This paper tries to design a hybrid appointment system with no-shows of regular patients （who book in advance） considering patient choice to increase clinic revenue and patient satisfaction. For this purpose, a Markov Decision Process （MDP） model with no-shows of regular patients considering patient choice is formulated in this paper. The capacity management problem is to decide which appointment requests to accept to maximize the clinic revenue. We compared the results with the appointment system without considering no-shows, and analyze the effects of clinic revenue from the perspectives of day-length and average same-day demand with different no-show probability. Our results indicate that regular patients’ no-shows have a negative effect on clinic revenue. And the larger the no-show probability, the greater the negative effects of no-shows. Therefore, the clinic must carefully manage patients’ access to physicians’ slots to balance the needs of regular patients with no-shows and same-day patients （who require a same-day appointment）.

The nurse scheduling problem （NSP） is a complex combinatorial optimization problem, we aim is to use the nurse resource reasonably. In this paper, firstly, with the method of time series analysis, an autoregressive integrated moving average （ARIMA） model is established to forecast the number of patients, which is used as input to calculate the volumes of nurse for scheduling by queuing theory. In the aspect of NSP, a comprehensive integer programming model considering nurse’s levels and their preferences to different shifts is established, with a series of labor regulations. Finally, in order to get a near-optimal scheduling, a heuristic algorithm combined with a series of transformation rules is designed. The contribution in this paper is threefold. Firstly, it satisfies all the constraints and obtains a near-optimal scheduling. Secondly, it can control patient waiting time validly. Thirdly, it can adjust the number of nurses to the shift dynamically.

Timetabling for bus transit network is one of knotty optimization problems in public transit planning process for transit agencies, because it must consider the synchronization of vehicle timetables when determining the departure time of each trip so that transfers within the network are well timed. Furthermore, the reliability of timetable that transit operators always struggle to ensure is also an important factor, which can enhance the probability of coordination of vehicles at transfer stations in the coming actual operations. In this paper we first propose a reliable timetable design problem for transit network by taking into account the stochastic bus travel times. A novel optimization model is developed to decide the departure time of each trip and the slack time associated with each transfer station to make a trade-off between operational cost and waiting time cost for transfer. Considering the feature of the optimization model, this paper subsequently proposes a simulation procedure based on simulated annealing algorithm. Finally, the proposed model is verified by the solution method under a hypothetical transit network and the computational results are reported.

The model and algorithm for Vehicle Routing and Scheduling Problem （VRSP） in picking up and delivering customers to airport service were presented in this paper. VRSP is an extension of the class Vehicle Routing Problem （VRP） with more resource constraints. Mathematical models are described for the VRSP with minimizing the cost based on low carbon emissions. The Bi-directional Optimization Heuristic Algorithm （BOHA） is developed for this model. The results verified the effectiveness of the model and Algorithm. The proposed model and algorithm can provide quantitative support and help the air ticket company decision-maker develop economical, punctual shuttle service with high satisfaction.

This paper proposes an ad hoc A* algorithm to find a least time path under urban timetabled public transport network. Vehicles are assumed to run punctually associated with timetables. This work first formulate complex urban timetabled public transport network considering scheduled lines serving over it and walk between two nodes for transfer purpose. Then, multi-label arc, shorte for m-arc, is defined to represent detailed travel process, and timing of each m-arc is expounded, too. Path is composed of a sequence of m-arcs. To find a least travel time path from an origin with pre-specified initial time to a destination under urban timetabled public transport among a large number of candidates, an ad hoc A* algorithm is developed, which propose a strategy for estimating elapsed time of partial paths that ended at destination, to be a tight lower bound of associated real elapsed time for the purpose of trying to reduce searching scope. The proposed algorithm is proved to guarantee an optimal solution in theory and demonstrated with an application for its high efficiency.

So as to meet the demand of real-world cargo transportation problem, the loading weight of vehicles is brought into the objective function of traditional Vehicle Routing Problem （VRP）, which creates the weighted VRP （WVRP）. The WVRP Benchmark and Algorithm Management System in this paper, provide a substantial platform for data management, including both WVRP instances and algorithms. Most importantly, the implementation of the system enables the integration of WVRP instances and related algorithms, which can further test the effectiveness of WVRP algorithms and may prove the benefits of WVRP modeling in later research. This paper introduced the structure design and function modules of WVRP Benchmark System, and explained the detailed implement of the system. Specific examples are displayed to prove the system effectiveness. The system provides an instrument and technical support of WVRP research and may in turn be beneficial to WVRP’s future study.
