Experiments and insights of desalination by a freezing/thawing method at low subcooling

Desalination by freezing/thawing method was a very important method to obtain fresh water from *** this work,desalination by freezing/thawing method was conducted with initial sodium chloride of 3.5 wt% in consideration of stirring speed,freezing time and *** subcooling ranged from 1.2 K to 4 *** optimum conditions for desalination in this work were stirring speed of 200 r·min^−1,freezing time of 120 min,and subcooling of 3 *** results also showed that sodiumchloride cannot be effectively removed by once freezing/thawing *** maximumremoval efficiency of sodiumchloride was 64.3%.Two major reasons resulting in the impurity of obtained melted water by freezing/thawing method were *** first reason was the inevitable adhesion of salt solution to the surface of ice,which could be removed easily by distilled water *** second reason was that salt solution was heterogeneously wrapped in the accumulated ice,which was difficult to be removed by distilled water *** liquid flushing method was proposed to verify the conjecture,and the results were in accordance with the two reasons mentioned *** method,such as multiple flushing liquid method,was suggested to be used during the freezing/thawing process for effectively removing sodium chloride,and obtaining fresh water.

Nonlinear dynamical characteristics of bed load motion

Bed forms of various kinds that evolve naturally on the bottom of sandy coasts and rivers are a result of the kinematics of bed load transport. Based on the group motion of particles in the bed load within the bottom layer, a study on the nonlinear dy- namics of bed load transport is presented in this paper. It is found that some development stages, such as the initiation, the equilibrium sediment transport, and the transition from a smooth bed to sand dunes, can be accounted for by different states in the nonlinear sys- tem of the bed load transport. It is verified by comparison with experimental data reported by Laboratoire Nationae D’Hydraulique, Chatou, France, that the evolution from a smooth bed to sand dunes is determined by mutation in the bed load transport. This paper pre- sents results that may offer theoretical explanations to the experimental observations. It is also an attempt to apply the state-of-the-art nonlinear science to the classical sediment transport mechanics.

with the increasing demand and striking upsurge in the price of lithium carbonate,sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)have gained significant attentions due to their abundance over lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Some prototype SIBs have achieved great progress in terms of energy *** SIBs show a relatively higher tolerance at the low temperature than LIBs due to the weaker cation–solvent interaction,the low-temperature performance of SIBs remains a critical challenge restricted by the electrolyte solidification and sluggish interphasial *** this review,we briefly cover the latest research progress in usable low-temperature electrolytes for *** the meantime,the mitigating mechanism and low-temperature performance of the electrolytes in different SIB configurations are also *** merits and demerits of ether-based and carbonate-based electrolytes are compared to demonstrate their potential and limitations,thus providing application principles for ether-based and carbonate-based electrolytes at low temperatures to maximize their ***,mitigation strategies for lowtemperature electrolytes are emphasized to guide the future electrolyte ***,we provide some perspectives on the development of the low-temperature electrolytes for SIBs.

Influence of Processing Conditions on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Large Thin-wall Centrifugal Ti–6Al–4V Casting

In this work, the effects of mould pre-heating temperatures and hot isostatic pressing （HIPping） process on the microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties, including static tensile and damage- tolerance properties of large thin-wall cylindrical Ti-6Al-4V casting, have been studied. The experimental results show that with the increasing mould pre-heating temperature from 673 to 873 K, the casting mi- crostructures change from a mixture of widmanstatten and colony microstructure to a primary colony. The centre of the thick wall section has relatively coarse microstructure than the edge and thin section. Lower mould pre-heating temperature brings about more porosities. HIPping process, which not only reduces the casting pores effectively but also increases the prior β grain boundary cohesion and coars- ens the microstructure, is essential to improving the ductility of the casting. Due to the oxygen contamination and finer microstructure on the surface, micro-hardness profiles on the cross section present a decreas- ing tendency from the surface to inner. The thickness of the reaction layers for the different mould pre-heating temperatures is nearly the same （-450 μm）. On the whole, the tensile strength and micro- hardness decrease with increasing mould pre-heating temperature from 673 to 873 K. However, the fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth resistance of the castings increase with increasing mould pre- heating temperature.

Effects of Risk Perception on Disaster Preparedness Toward Typhoons:An Application of the Extended Theory of Planned Behavior

This study adopted an extended theory of planned behavior to understand how risk perception affected disaster preparedness *** intercept survey(N=286)was conducted at a typhoon-prone district of Hong Kong,China in 2019,then the data were analyzed using structural equation *** results indicated that risk perception and intention of preparedness were predictors of disaster preparedness *** perception significantly affected intention of preparedness and the effect was partially mediated by subjective *** perception also significantly affected attitude and perceived behavioral control,but attitude and perceived behavioral control were not significantly correlated with intention of *** only may this study supplement the existing literature of disaster preparedness toward typhoons,but also it provides insights for the planning and management of natural hazards and disaster risk reduction in Hong Kong,China.

Catalytic conversion of CO_(2) to high-value products is a crucial method to achieve targets of carbon dioxide emissions peak and carbon ***,realizing a controllable product distribution in a single CO_(2) hydrogenation process is of great ***,we prepared the CuFe nanoalloy catalyst that directly transforms CO_(2) to alkanes using physical sputtering method in mild *** characteristic results show that the proximity between Cu and Fe is the crucial factor to tunable products among the different *** formation of unique coordination of FeCu4 nanoalloys from high-energy sputtering process provides close interaction between Cu and Fe,which is favorable to formation of low carbon paraffin,however,a distant proximity and weak interaction will increase the selectivity of olefins and *** work provides a general strategy for tuning target chemicals and enriches the viewpoints in CO_(2) hydrogenation.

A New Strategy for Improving the Efficiency of Low-temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with CH4via the Combination of Non-thermal Plasma and Ag2O/TiO2 Photocatalyst

In the present work,a remarkable combination of non-thermal plasma and photocatalyst was developed to widen the operating temperature window of selective catalytic reduction(SCR)of NOx with CH4,especially to improve the low-temperature removal efficiency of *** was shown that the operating temperature window was significantly *** all the catalysts prepared,1%Ag2O/TiO2 showed the highest catalytic activity for NOx removal due to the utilization of near ultraviolet *** conversion of NOx to N2 over the in-plasma 1%Ag2O/TiO2 photocatalyst at 60 and 300℃ could achieve 31.8%and 53.0%,*** combination mode of plasma and catalyst affected NOx removal efficiency greatly,the in-plasma catalysis outperformed the post-plasma catalytic mode remarkably,signifying the contribution of photocatalytic processes on the ***,the characterizations of the catalyst demonstrated that the morphology and structure of the Ag2O/TiO2 catalyst were unchanged throughout the non-thermal plasma and photocatalytic processes,implying the superior stability of the catalyst.

The role of AVDR in linear cascade testing

Linear cascade testing plays an important role in the research and development of turbomachinery and is widely used over the *** ideal cascade model of a turbomachinery blade row is *** actual linear cascade testing,the flow through the test section converges due to the development of the boundary layer and secondary flow along the sidewall surfaces of the test *** velocity density ratio(AVDR) is adopted to account for the deviation of the tested cascade flow from the ideal 2D *** numerous published cascade works,the influence of AVDR on cascade performance is seen to be complicated with many affecting factors,such as those related to cascade/blade geometry and flow ***,controlling AVDR is limited by the facility ***,real blade-to-blade flow in turbomachines is usually associated with AVDR greater than unity due to limited span of blades between the hub and shroud such that cascade testing without reducing AVDR could be favored *** these facets add complexity and diversification to the *** current paper reviews previous studies and results on *** understanding on the role of AVDR and recommendations on how to deal with it in linear cascade testing are provided.
