The seven-membered ring motifs are found in bioactive pharmaceuticals and a wide range of natural products,including alkaloids and terpenoids,which hold significant importance in synthetic chemistry and has garnered considerable attention from both academia and *** the challenges faced in the past decade,the total synthesis of natural products incorporating the non-aromatic cycloheptane skeletons remains a compelling ***,numerous elegant strategies for constructing the sevenmembered ring system have been successfully *** review focuses on the recent advancements in this field from 2017 to April 2023,highlighting key transformations utilized to construct the non-aromatic cycloheptane core structures and serves as a valuable guide for synthetic chemists engaged in the total synthesis of natural products containing seven-membered ring motifs.

Numerous supramolecular macrocycles have been utilized for developing catalysts by exploiting their specific molecular recognition and ability to form inclusion complexes through noncovalent interactions. The cyclic structure and modified functional groups of these macrocycles can influence substrate and transition state stability, as well as reaction selectivity. The inner cavities of these macrocycles are particularly beneficial, as they enable substrates to adopt preorganized arrangements and serve as versatile platforms for highly efficient supramolecular catalytic systems. This minireview provides an overview of recent advancements in supramolecular catalysis using various macrocycles, such as crown ethers, cyclodextrins,calixarenes, pillararenes, cucurbiturils, and other novel macrocycles.

In order to understand the mechanical properties and the fracture surface roughness characteristics of thermally damaged granite under dynamic splitting,dynamic Brazilian splitting tests were conducted on granite samples after thermal treatment at 25,200,400,and 600℃.Results show that the dynamic peak splitting strength of thermally damaged granite samples increases with increasing strain rate,showing obvious strain‐rate *** increasing temperature,thermally induced cracks in granite transform from intergranular cracks to intragranular cracks,and to a transgranular crack *** induced damages reduce the dynamic peak splitting strength and the maximum absorbed energy while increasing the peak radial *** fracture mode of the thermally damaged granite under dynamic loads is mode Ⅱ splitting *** using the axial roughness index Z2 a,the distribution ranges of the wedge‐shaped failure zones and the tensile failure zones in the fracture surfaces under dynamic Brazilian splitting can be effectively *** radial roughness index Z_(2)^(r)is sensitive to the strain rate and *** shows a linear correlation with the peak splitting strength and the maximum absorbed energy and a linear negative correlation with the peak radial strain.Z_(2)^(r)can be used to quantitatively estimate the dynamic parameters based on the models proposed.

ge-containing Lewis acidic zeolites are typically synthesized using a conventional hydrothermal strategy from amorphous silica sources,through a long time-and energy-consuming approach limiting their wide *** study reports a rapid synthesis strategy for a series of IWV aluminogermanosilicate zeolites(T-x-Al)with a wide range of Si/ge molar ratios(5–15)by interzeolite transformation of dealuminated FAU(DA-FAU).Notably,ge-rich IWV could be obtained with crystallization time as short as one day by the equimolecular Si/ge ratio *** effect of synthetic parameters was investigated and the obtained T-x-Al samples were characterized by XRD,SEM,EDS,ICP,^(29)Si and^(27)Al MAS NMR,FTIR,and N_(2)physisorption *** with a previously reported IWV germanosilicate(H-3),T-x-Al displayed a better catalytic activity in Baeyer-Villiger(BV)oxidation,attributed to the presence of the active framework ge sites with the assistance of the extraframework Al *** cyclic catalysis tests revealed that the presence of framework Al species contributed to the stability of the ***,T-x-Al,with 14-membered ring(MR)supercages,outperformed the typical 12-MR Sn-beta catalyst in the BV oxidation of large ketone-like 2-admantanone,indicating a promising potential application in the macromolecular catalytic process.

Axial segregation characteristics and size-induced flow behavior of particles in a novel rotary drum with curved sidewalls

Particle mixing and segregation are common phenomena in rotary drums,which are challenging to be controlled and driven artificially in powder *** this work,the discrete element method(DEM)was applied to construct the novel rotary drum composed of different shaped curved *** varying the operation parameters of particle and sidewall shapes as well as the length-to-diameter(L/D)ratio of drums,the axial mixing and segregation processes of binary size-induced particles were *** results show that the axial flow velocity of the particle mixtures is noticeably weakened once the particle angularity increases,making the non-spherical particles to mix better in rotary drums compared to the spherical ***,in the short drums with size-induced spherical particles,the axial segregation characteristics are significantly enhanced by the convex sidewalls while suppressed by the concave ***,for size-induced non-spherical particles,the axial segregation structure can be present in rotary drums with plane and concave sidewalls while not in drums with convex ***,the axial segregation band structure of spherical particles eventually increases proportionally with the increased drum L/D *** contrast,the non-spherical particles cannot form obvious multi-proportional segregation bands.

Effects of combustion temperature on the optical properties of brown carbon from biomass burning

Biomass burning has been known as one of main sources of Brown Carbon(BrC)in *** this study,by controlling the combustion temperature at 250℃,350℃,and 450℃,the methanol soluble organic carbon(MSOC)and methanol insoluble carbon(MISC)from pine wood burning was collected by ***–Vis,excitation emission matrix(EEM),TEM and FTIR spectra were applied to investigate the properties of BrC *** MSOC at 250℃ and 350℃,all the spectral profiles of UV–Vis absorption and excitation emission matrix are almost the same,while the EEM of MSOC at 450℃ are different from that of the other *** MISC fuorescence was observed only in the case of 450℃.In the FTIR spectra,with the temperature increasing the peaks associated to the oxygen-contained functions was weakened,indicating the formation of the fuorophores with larger conjugated system,especially aromatic *** results show that biomass combustion at low temperature produces more oxygen-riched BrC,which possesses relatively lower light absorption,while at high temperature produces more aromatics hydrocarbons with relatively strong light *** results of this work are helpful to trace the source of brown carbon and optimize biomass energy utilization.

An asymmetric catalytic strategy in photocatalysis utilizing a chirality-induced approach through an organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis strategy is successfully achieved for the rapid construction of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols in a one-pot protocol. This methodology facilitates the efficient synthesis of diverse substituted polycyclic tetrahydroquinoline and benzofuran-derived vicinal amino alcohols, each containing five consecutive chiral centers, with high yields,excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities(up to 95% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee), under mild reaction conditions driven by sequential bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst-catalyzed [4+2] annulation and photocatalyst-catalyzed ketyl radical addition cyclization reaction process. Furthermore, investigations into the stereoselectivity mechanism and high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS) experiments on free radical trapping have provided evidence for elucidating the detailed mechanism of chirality-induced processes and chiral intermediate conversions in this procedure.

Owing to its high production volume and wide range of application s,polyethylene has gained a great deal of attention,but its low surface energy and non-polar nature have limited its application in some important *** this study,ethylene/11-iodo-1-undecene copolymers were prepared and used as the intermediates to afford a series of imidazolium-based ionomers bearing methanesulfonate(CH_(3)SO_(3)^(-)),trifluoromethanesulfonate(CF_(3)SO_(3)^(-)),or bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide(Tf_(2)N^(-))*** tensile test results showed that the stress-at-break(7.8-25.6 MPa)and the elongation-at-break(445%-847%)of the ionomers could be adjusted by changing the counterion species and the ionic group *** importantly,the ionomers exhibited marvelous antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus(***)and Escherichia coli(***).The ionomers bearing Tf_(2)N^(-)exhibited antibacterial activities>99%against both *** and *** when ionic content reached 9.1%.The imidazolium-based ionomers prepared in this work demonstrated excellent comprehensive properties,especially highefficient and broad-spectrum antibacterial ability,exhibiting the potential fo r the application as the antibacterial materials in packaging,medical,and other fields.
