AIM:To investigate the significance of ultrasound elastography for evaluating stiffness of the human lens nucleus in volunteers with different ***:A total of 90 volunteers(lens transparency,uncorrected visual acuity≥0.5,intraocular pressure:14-19 mm Hg)were divided into 3 groups according to age:Group A(30 people,median age:82±3.5 y,mean axial lengths 23.7±0.5 mm);Group B(30 people,median age:46±2.1 y,mean axial lengths 23.9±0.4 mm);and Group C(30 people,median age:22±3.5 y,mean axial lengths 24.0±0.4 mm).Lens nuclear stiffness was measured by Free-hand qualitative elastography by independent *** gray scale and color-coded elastography maps were *** each case,three consecutive detections were performed and strain ratio was used for statistical ***:Elastography analysis showed excellent diagnostic performance for lens *** strain ratio was lowest(0.03±0.01)%in Group A and highest(2.03±0.43)%in Group *** strain ratio was moderate(0.64±0.10)%in Group *** were significant differences between these three groups(P<0.05).The lens nucleus strain rate changes with *** aging,the lens nucleus strain rate and resilience decrease,demonstrating harder ***:The relationship between human lens stiffness and age is demonstrated by ultrasound *** age is associated with lower strain ratio and less resilience of the lens.

The catalytic pyrolysis of glucose over amphoteric metal oxide, ZnO or γ-l2O3, was studied comparatively with direct pyrolysis. The effects of catalyst to glucose ratio on the yields of pyrolytic products and on the chemical composition of the liquid products were discussed. Compared with the pyrolytic products of direct pyrolysis, the amount of residual char decreased, whereas the gas yield increased in the presence of the catalysts. The highest liquid yield over ZNO（49.5%） was obtained when the ratio of ZnO to glucose was 5%, whereas over γ-Al2O3 the liquid yield increased with increasing the amount of γ-Al2O3 added. The presence of both the catalysts enhanced the selectivity to furans in liquid and reduced that of anhydro sugars. A selectivity of 69.7% to furans was obtained over 1% ZnO with a selectivity of 14.6% to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural（HMF）. The maximum selectivity to furans（74.9%） and that to HMF（25.6%） were obtained in the presence of 10% γ-Al2O3.

AIM： To compare of lens oxidative damage induced by vitrectomy and/or hyperoxia in ***： Sixteen New Zealand rabbits （2.4-2.5 kg） were randomly divided into two groups （Group A, n=12; Group B, n=4）. In Group A, the right eyes were treated with vitrectomy and systemic hyperoxia （oxygen concentration： 80%-85%, 1 ATA, 4h/d）（Group A-right）, and the left eyes were treated with hyperoxia without vitrectomy surgery （Group A-left）. Four rabbits in group B （eight eyes） were untreated as the controls. Lens transparency was monitored with a slit lamp and recorded before and after vitrectomy. After hyperoxic treatment for 6mo, the eyeballs were removed and the lens cortices （containing the capsules） and nuclei were separated for further morphological and biochemical ***： Six months after treatments, there were no significant morphological changes in the lenses in any experimental group when observed with a slit lamp. However, the levels of water-soluble proteins and ascorbate, and the activities of catalase and Na＋-K＋-ATPase were significantly reduced, whereas the levels of malondialdehyde and transforming growth factor β2 （TGF-β2） were significantly elevated, in both the cortices and nuclei of eyes treated with vitrectomy and hyperoxia. The increase in protein-glutathione mixed disulfides and the reduction in water-soluble proteins were more obvious in the lens nuclei. The levels of ascorbate in the vitreous fluid were also reduced after vitrectomy, whereas TGF-β2 increased after vitrectomy and hyperoxia. Systemic hyperoxia exposure increased these effects. CONCLUSION： Removal of the intact vitreous gel with vitrectomy and exposing the lens to increased oxygen from the retina induce lens oxidation and aggregation. Thus, an intact vitreous gel structure may protect the lens from oxidative insult and maintain lens transparency.

Human papillomavirus （HPV） is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases which comprises a group of small DNA viruses that infect both cutaneous and mucous squamous epithelia. Liquid bead microarray technology （LBMA） were used to evaluate 24 HPV genotypes in confirmed fertile and infertile males of North China so that the effects of HPV infection on semen parameters and relationship with male infertility could be discussed. A total of 1138 subjects were recruited in this study; 142 were HPV-positive （12.48%）. Among 523 confirmed fertile males, only 35 were HPV-positive （6.70%）, and two of them had multiple infections. Among 615 infertile males, 107 were HPV-positive （17.4%）, and 29 of them had multiple infections. Infertile males had a relatively high HPV infection rate compared with confirmed fertile males. Sperm progressive motility （PR） and the normal morphology rate were significantly decreased in HPV-positive subjects. HPV-45, HPV-52, HPV-18, HPV-59 and HPV-16 infections were more frequently in infertile males. Hence, HPV infection is closely related to male infertility which will decrease sperm PR and morphology. HPV-45, HPV-52, HPV-18, HPV-59 and HPV-16 infection seems to be major risk factors.

Rechargeable sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)are considered as the next-generation secondary *** performance of SIB is determined by the behavior of its electrode surface and the electrode–electrolyte interface during charging and ***,the characteristics of these surfaces and interfaces should be analyzed to realize large-scale energy storage systems with high energy density and long-cycle *** various studies have investigated the properties of electrode materials,few studies have focused on the construction of stable and efficient SIB interfaces,and even fewer have explored the mechanisms of interfacial effects;however,the strategies of regulating interfacial effects are yet to be completely ***,the results obtained thus far are insufficient to draw systematic *** present study reviews the literature on the mechanism of interfacial effects in Na+storage *** interfaces in a sodium-ion storage device include a heterogeneous interface between electrode materials,a solid electrolyte interphase,and a cathode electrolyte *** interfacial effects during the intercalation,transformation,and alloy reactions and the resulting overall battery performance were theoretically *** this review,we aim to provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the structures of electrode surface and electrode–electrolyte interface to optimize the performance of *** addition,the challenges of investigating interfacial effects and several possible helpful methods and opportunities for studying the mechanisms of interfacial effects in SIBs will be presented.

It was newly found that the electrodes modified by applying ethanol solutions of Nationcontaining os(bpy)32+ onto the substrate electrode (the one-step method) show two pairs of stableredox peaks of Os(bpy)32+/3+ on cyclic voltammogram near 0.54V and 0.25V, respectively. Thesemoditied electrodes can effectively mediate and catalyze the first and second steps of nitritereduction in acidic media in the potential region 0-0.9V when the loading in the coating (X=F(Os2+) / F(SO3-)) and pH in solution are below 0. 17 and 4, respectively. When X is between 0.33and 0. 17. only the current peak near 0.54V appears regardless of solution pH and only the first stepof NO2 reduction is catalyzed. Thus the modified electrode provides a very useful flexibility thatone can control the reaction pathway and catalytic activity of nitrite reduction by simply changingthe concentration of the mediator in the coating.
